This video has me torn. I just spent 3 years driving a Scatpack and absolutely loved the car to death but I’ve got a performance model 3 now and it’s just acceleration on a completely different level. I miss the hell out of the sound of that Hemi but I don’t miss spending nearly $200 a month on fuel.
And you posted this a year ago. Imagine now!
@@I-Teee Yeah no kidding. My wife has an XC60 with the 4 cylinder turbo motor and it is pretty fuel efficient for an SUV but still costs like $80 for a full tank.

So, to go fast on the hellcat you need to know how to drive, on the Tesla not so much.
Correct.
Isn't that the whole point of technology, to make things that were complex simple? When was the last time you adjusted your HD TV? Never. With analog TVs you had to adjust the color balance, the antenna, the scan lock. A Tesla is to ICEVs as an HD TV is to an analog TV.
@@joshuarosen465 nonsense, real cars have manual gearbox, the driver has to be 1 with the car
@@carholic-sz3qv Are you still using a sliderule? When I was in highschool we had to get a sliderule for a science class, fortunately for me the first portable four function calculators hit the market that year and I managed to talk my father into buying me one even though it was incredibly expensive ($400 in 1970, he paid $2800 the same year for a Chevy Biscayne just to give you a measure of the value of a 1970 dollar). When the future arrives you embrace it. I've never driven a manual in my life, they've been obsolete for 60 years. When I was young the apologists for manuals said they were more efficient, that's not true any more so even sports cars like the C8 Corvette don't offer them. Internal combustion engines are obsolete, electric drive is better in every way except range and that's a problem that's will be gone entirely in just a few years.

These Tesla's are great, Performance where it's usable. Goes to show having 797 horse power means nothing if you can't get it on the road.
Exactly, if the hellcat had awd it would probably smash the tesla model Y but nit the S
Dodge should transition to an AWD system just like the Nissan GT-R

Actually, they both have the same useful horsepower. The difference is the extra horsepower on the hellcat is used to create noise, wheelspin and smoke! 😁😁😁
You weren't tempted to just put the Dodge in ECO mode then?
Thatll work 🤣
The Tesla has consistently good performance while the hellcat requires a skilled driver to be fast.
True that
It really doesn't. Just use launch control.
The Fast Lane Car I saw second gear launches were tried; was launch control ever used?
Therefore the Hellcat is complete dog shit
Easy to have consistency when you have AWD. If your mom can race it, it isn’t a real car. A real car takes a skilled driver to outrun everyone else. You’re comparing a cowboy riding a bull for 8 seconds to your saloon cowgirl riding a mechanical bull.
If you see green, you're late.
I haven’t visited this channel in over 4 years! Man re-watching those mashups gives me a serious blast of nostalgia
I will gladly take that challenge 😈😈😈

@@Superman-xr1oh off the line it’s fast as f*^k! When you’re doing 75 and want to punch it, it’s still instant but there’s a definite difference in that power. Had this car since last June though and wouldn’t change a thing. I’m looking at the model X now though for more space.
At top speed, super cars and high performing muscle cars would have an advantage on the Model Y or most other EVs, except the plaid.
This is a good test really. Imagine a hellcat driver on a non prepared surface.... The fact is from a dig the electric cars are king!
That plus AWD.
Drivetrain, tire compound, rim size, ride height, and weight distribution are all bigger factors than electric vs gas. Big reason why the 911 Turbo S has always been getting faster and faster, they have the formula figured out, but all that's left is for technology to advance.

Heating the battery will make a massive difference especially at higher SOCs. Using Preconditioning to heat the battery.
Kudos for taking those cars to the drag strip. Very fun video overall.
As a muscle car fan, I am astounded at how fast that “grocery getter econobox looking” electric car is. Amazing. Can you imagine a purpose built “red eye Tesla” muscle car in the future?
Tesla roadster 2020 founder edition
@Ed Gillis Actually, FCA will be electrifying most of the new cars within the next 5 yrs. In fact, they’ve already pumping out hybrid and electric vehicles. The Challenger and Charger were specifically mentioned as well as future performance models. I love hybrid performance vehicles. They give you the best of both worlds.
Doesn't the Challenger Hellcat Redeye come with launch control??
Yes it does but they didn't use it !!
Shifty McGee462 he didn’t use it they brake torqued it if you go back and listen to Andre his words were brake torqued it
15 second passes in a hellcat is a little embarrassing. Funny video though, none the less. With some decent tires and a good launch the hellcat should be doing high 11s. Should have brought a mustang 😉
I believe it does also did they even do a burnout with it? To warm up the tires?
Yeah, but that doesn't do well for the Tesla propaganda that this channel is all about.
I love the way the Tesla ..... The computer takes over to where your not bouncing around.... All smooth..... Love it..... Amazing
The model Y has four wheel hookup. The Hellcat only has two in the rear.
Sad eh !!
The point is the EV will win nearly every time because it’s an inherently consistent setup.
Yup, one thing that is consistent in all these videos with hellcats and demons is people who even drive cars for a living have a hard time getting them to hook up right. Hell, even if you watch those illegal drag racing videos, they routinely get smoked off the line because they can't hook up.
The Tesla is consistent because it is not pushing its limits. When other cars catch up Tesla will release updates that release more potential.
Except for when the petrol gets up to 130 then the other car will overtake
Well an E 63 S is also a consistent setup. Consistency wasn't really the point of the Hellcat.
@BLACKVIEW USA And I doubt that Tesla put in amazing motors which are just held back by software. Heck I even doubt that the hardware is capable of stage 5 self driving. Some Tesla fanboys are just ridiculous.
That man doesn’t know how to drive that Hellcat.
That's the point. You need to be a very good to drive helcat straight where with Tesla a grandmother can beat and good driver. Shows how much better Tesla is for normal drivers.
Most people would have a hard time driving that car, even if they think they wouldn't.
There are plenty of reviews, even by good drivers/owners who struggle launching that car without tires and a good prep on the surface.
Totally agree everything I’ve heard about hellcats are they need to roll on the power off the line and then throttle out
@@sigor2011 that's because the hellcat has way more torque than the tesla,it's rear wheel driven unlike the tesla which is all wheel drive.Plus they didn't turn launch control on for the hellcat
Not surprised at the results. NOTHING can beat an electric motor for maximum torque at zero RPM. My son's dual motor Model 3 gives me tunnel vision.
Really nice video ! Really interesting to compare two different era. Thank you for your work. Cheers from France
Here in Edmonton which is 2300 feet above sea level (if you guys are in Colorado you understand the elevation disadvantage when it comes to running good times), regular Hellcats run in the 10s. However most of them are running at least a drag radial like a Nitto 555R. If you guys had street tires on that Redeye you'd have to put some serious heat into them to make them hook up, and that's only if the track prep for the day was really good. I imagine you guys didn't want to torch your rear tires too much with multiple long burnouts. The Hellcat is by far the faster car but it takes some skill and good tires to get it off the line clean. As a side note though, Teslas are awesome and it's cool how they are opening peoples eyes to the potential performance electric cars can offer!
Thanks. We’re at over 5000 feet above sea level. At Bandimere we saw most with hellcats running Hoosier racing slicks. Most folk don’t get how challenging it is to launch a Hellcat and just how much hp power you lose @mile above sea level. All the bad driver comments come from people who have never tried to launch a Hellcat let alone do it on a drag strip in Denver.
The Fast Lane Car yep. Everyone thinks drag racing is easy until they actually go to a track and can’t figure out why they can’t come close to hitting any good times.
Haha! Andre can't even launch a sack of potatoes!
And he's Russian
Hahahaha that’s true, Andre should stay reviewing granny cars
You mean I can't just close my eyes and push the peddle to the floor? What the frick
Launch a boat maybe?
My granny can launch a tesla and win 🤣
It's incredibly amazing, and equally terrifying, that a relatively affordable family SUV is roaming the streets and capable of 3.5 0-60 times. AWD with 500lb of instant torque isn't a joke. Not many cars out there you'll lose to at a stop light.
I would say Roman is the better driver but dude, a .673 R/T?!?!? A .320 would have been a tie! Drop 5 PSI in the tires and go around the water (heating up a street tires is the worst thing you can do!) and the outcome would have been very different.
Just realized I posted this at 7:07 AM. 😎
it would have been awesome in a roll race at the drag strip. A 40 roll would be interesting, I think at 40 the Hellcat would still struggle a bit with wheel-spin but would catch up nicely to the Tesla.
To go fast in the Hellcat you need to know how to hook up an ICE drive train and that takes a lot of practice, a serious skill set.
I learned to drive in a truck with no synchromesh and I can double declutch like a wizard. I can also do Morse code but, unfortunately, neither have any practical application any more. It's frustrating getting old and watching skill sets become redundant but, on the other hand, there are compensations. I can have superior acceleration in an EV every time and I've got a smart phone.
Hello 21st century.

Great fun video and Roman showing true finesse with power delivery 👍
Having ridden shotgun in a Hellcat... aside from the modern infotainment system, it’s very 1970s in experience. That’s a good and bad thing.
ICE car owners: So innovative how they put 10 whole hellcats on the car.
Tesla Owners: wow my car just got better at driving it’s self today.

@@directorjustin to make the batteries : not efficient. And most safe isn't Tesla. I bet you my Hummer H1 would be safer in every aspect. Even my h3 which got 5 stars as well
@@floof4444 That's not a true statement. Let's start with the waste generated by ICE vehicles everyday. Emissions: look at the orange smog in the horizon, diesel truck owners who think it's cool to purposely belch out black smoke. Try standing in the pit area of a top fuel dragster. This country generates over 200 million gallons of used motor oil per year that is disposed of improperly in landfills, sewers, and the ocean. These facts alone proves ICE vehicles are obsolete. We won't even discuss the pollution generated by refining oil into gasoline, transporting fuel. And speaking of batteries, what happens to the used batteries we dispose of every day?
@@lvlionsfan5492 yes they are more efficient in the long term. However to make EVs is quite emissions.... Filling.
@@lvlionsfan5492 Well, electric cars are not as efficient as you think, gas cars emit 6-7 metric tons from factory, as for example, an average car like a toyota corolla or honda civic emit 270 grams per mile, average miles driven in gas car is 13,500, gas cars emit 3.6 metric tons a year, average to keep a car is 6 years, gas cars emit 28.6 metric tons during its life time including factory emissions, electric cars like tesla model 3 averages 13 metric tons from factory, tesla model 3 has 264 miles mid range, emits 85 kg per kwh, battery size is 65 kwh, tesla model 3 emits 300 grams per mile inside these coal powerplants, that means model 3 emits 4 metric tons each year, which would mean 37 metric tons in 6 years in total including factory emissions.

Fun video guys! This might sound counterintuitive, but did you try launching in first gear? You'll still have wheelspin, but it will be slower and easier to modulate. This comes from experience, though in fairness, it's from the road course and a different car (another gnarly Dodge product), so I don't know how well it translates to the drag strip. I still had to contend with tire spin, and a lower gear made that more predictable for me.

Probably not. They are very efficient considering the power.
@@Sak-zo1ui you think generating 800 hp for 1/4 mile wouldn’t reduce range by more than 6 miles? Then the Hellcat would be grossly inefficient if it needed that amount of energy to go 6 miles. It’s annoying to know these Teslas can go insanely fast but you never experience that out in the wild. I always have to keep passing them on my commute. It’s like they are always limping along.😄
I have a Y performance and I limp along also. I don’t accelerate from the light to fast because it makes my brain wonky! I thought the mustangs I owned (8) of the them ( 04 cobra, 2012 Boss 302 , 03 Mach 1 and 2017 Gt 350 just to name a few had good acceleration. Bet the Red Eye lost way more than 6 miles of range per run. Re-gen, low cost of electricity per mile, no oil changes, no transmission fluid changes, and virtually no required maintenance, means the Tesla is way cheaper to run each race. Plus virtually no wear and tear on the drivetrain means a high-mileage car keeps it's performance better than a high mileage internal combustion engine.

If you put a top fuel dragster on street tires, it'll also lose to the Tesla. What's the point of this? On street tires in good conditions this car runs mid 11's, on slicks it runs mid 10's.
Once you get one, I would love to see a Challenger Redeye vs a Charger Redeye.

Pretty amazing how many times you can drag race a Tesla Modle Y between charges.
Do they make an AWD Hellcat? I know they have the Trackhawk...but i wonder if that could be a solution?
Trackhawk vs model Y next. A rwd nearly 800hp muscle car clearly won’t ever be able to match awd it’s not even fair because your not even getting enough heat in the tires. It’s more fair to put a suv that hits 3.5 every launch then a rwd muscle car that slides and hits 60 in 5 seconds cuz no traction then it’s over because there’s no space to catch up
I think this is fair because most people in hellcats can’t handle the power any better than Andre. Everyone is a hotshoe behind a keyboard, behind the wheel? Less so.
That was good, well done lads!
You can't race a car you don't know how to use lol.... good vid tho
Yeah the tesla takes some learnin !!
You guys really should have done the homework on launch control of the hell cat
you dont use launch control on a prepped track
I heard interesting thing from a local car dealer about the car top speed limit in China. The government's plan is to set the top speed at 150km/h for all (EV) cars, the ETC reader will also become mandatory in all cars, and it can monitor your top speed by using the 5G network. So basically, when you enter a main road and drive under the speed camera gates it will know the car is on the road, who is driving (your mobile phone gives that away), and ETC can measure your top speed even you drive a 30 years old VW Santana. When you drive through the next toll gate you might get a surprise charge.
Love your channel. It's going to take more than 2 runs to master the Hellcat.
22 ? 🤔
Why are you driving those street tires through the water???
I wondered that too. Looks like the dice were loaded in several ways against the 2wd musclecar.
It's a bleach box for burnouts to warm up the tires so they grip better
It's funny you both talk about a few miles of lost range on the Tesla..... how many gallons does the Dodge gulp per run? 5? 10? 😂
probably about a 3rd of a gallon per run at most, it goes like 5 gallons per mile on this mode, so in reality is about .5 gallon per run.
El Guisongo plus 15 min of idling at the line.
Seems like that happens in any type of comparison between a electric car and a performance gas car
I think it’s because you can fill it up instantly ... charging takes time ...
@@greygoose4x46 This is true. Though in terms of Drag racing this really isn't an issue when your just trying to get a perfect time. Interesting that they mentioned it.
Somewhere is Colorado, they say Andre still walks the hillside trying to remove his helmet.
