Thank you for this Brigette. I walked away from a company after being there for 12 years due to some of these instances. It has been difficult to find a job where my worth and 16 years in the field is valued. I also feel a bit of ageism being utilized😩😩😩 I am feeling defeated to say the least. Because of circumstances at the last job, I no longer want to be in Emergency Medicine which is making it challenging to enter into a different career path within Healthcare. Being in my 40s, I feel like I am in need of a Coach after all these rejections despite my years of experience.

Same thing happened to me. I got placed on a PIP that had unrealistic goals. My director said my performance was pitiful and that I needed more accountability. I was then given 2 job roles for the same pay, forced to work at a facility 90 miles away from home, and consistently getting chewed out by everyone because nothing was ever going right. It was a terrible feeling going into work. Motivated me to find a new job. Got an over 35% raise. Putting in my 2 weeks felt like such a relief. I was not performing due to a severe depression. The PIP made it even worse. One thing is very much true. The business will always be as usual. There is no such thing as job security. We (all of us) tend to get comfortable in a workplace until the hard facts hit us about our peers, manager, and senior management; every single one is just there to mind their own good self and is ready to let you down whenever the sky gets grey.
Being prepared, always being on our toes, and ready to jump is a "have to" attitude.

I went thru similar experiences. I remember my boss greeting me in the afternoon one day asking me how I was doing and yet we had been working in the same room since morning. He had chosen to snub me for the better part of the day until he involuntarily greeted me. I think he forgot that they were supposed to ignore and give me the silent treatment.
My last months and days in that company were very energy draining and mind exhausting!
When I could take it no more, I allowed myself to let go off this job and disentangled myself from this yoke of bondage for the sanity of my mind. The passive aggression and those techniques they used to alienate me and distance themselves from me to my colleagues in the same project avoiding taking the same cab with me when going for the same external meetings were taking a toll on my mental health.
The day I decided this is it, on my way to work, I bought an envelope at a shop and printed a resignation letter template that my friend had used to resign with too a few months earlier when we had both been accused of things we did not do and given warning letters and asked to apologize. Our jobs were threatened!
About the resignation letter template, I had downloaded it on internet and sent a copy to my friend because we were prepared to resign than get fired.
My friend refused to incriminate himself on things he did not do and chose to resign but then the naive me decided to apologize to keep my job.
After arriving at work, I drew out the printed resignation letter, added my name and date to it then put it in the envelope and tendered it in while checking in for work that day.
I felt very much relieved and free in my life thereafter. That day, in the evening I was able to eat well, relaxed and had a peace of mind that I had not had in a long time then had a good night sleep.
The next morning, I was going to start waiting out my notice period for the next 30 days but after about 8 days when I had completed the handover, they told me to leave and told me that they will notify me when to come and collect my dues.
I was glad they did that because my first semester exams for my MSc first year of study were taking place in about 2 weeks' time, so I had some time to prepare for my exams free from work and the things they were doing to get into my head and drive me to depression. Honestly, up to today, I never even understood what happened or what was driving the wedge between them and I but I left all that in the past and moved on.

I had a job once where the boss (VP of the department) started giving me "extra" attention, as soon as I started. This made the Southern belles I worked with angry. So I had to deal with unwanted advances from the boss and hate from women jealous of my harassment. 🤦🏽‍♀ So much for 'Me Too.' At first, I got high praises for my work, but when he realized I wasn't going to give in to his advances, he set his right-hand lackey on me. I walked by the office of my direct manager one day and heard the VP's lackey asking him if he had any troubles with me. When my manager said, "No, she's doing a great job," the VP's lackey said, "Well just let us know if you have any problems with her." Soon after, we learned that the Executive VP (this is a huge international company), the VP's boss, was coming into town and wanted to speak with everyone in the department. The VP fired me early that morning before the meeting.

Eventually I was made redundant, even though I got a new position with more responsibility on a very high profile project as a Shift Leader. Then spent 18 months out of work. Got a new job where I was appreciated, but after 7 years tried to get a pay increase only to be told that I would not get anymore, and was told why don't I look for another job. At the age of 59, I told my manager that it was very unlikely. Anyway, I saw another job, closer to home, applied, had an interview and was offered the job later that same afternoon. So if you think you are too old, just go for it. You have nothing to lose, only things to gain. Although the money was not much better, I didn't have to travel 300 miles a week.

I just got relocated to a different department. I can easily quit but I’ll stay a bit longer just to prove that the employees who targeted and sabotaged me, lied about my character and capabilities.
They almost succeeded in getting me to quit but I remembered who I was and also try to look at things in a positive way.
They needed numerous people to target me, one female. Most of these people were men. I never changed being kind to others and offering help to anyone who needed it, even when I knew what they were trying to do to me.
I may be getting fired soon. I also have a good feeling that some people in this new department are either friends or family of those who got me in my current position so I am preparing myself for possible issues to build a better defense against their attempts.
People have quit before me and still continue to do so. These people have experience taking out what they see as a potential threat even though my eagerness to learn was so that I could help everyone around me and I had no desire whatsoever to take anyones position.
I hope I can one day start my own business and appreciate experiencing what workplace mobbing/bullying feels like so I can protect my future employees from it.
Although I know it would probably be best for me to quit, I can’t. I’ve been bullied in school and hospitalized from it because of my introverted personality as well as being smarter than most people in my district. I can’t let them get away with what they’re doing so I need to expose them. I’m going to show how competent I am by learning one of the most difficult machines in the building after they moved me to this new department and hopefully the supervisors will see that I was telling the truth about being improperly trained by receiving false information to set myself up for failure for the last machine I was on that led to my relocating. How is it that I was capable of learning 8 machines in 3 months when it takes people 4-6 months to learn 1 if I was allegedly trained properly and still failed to run it efficiently?
The harassment, rumors and targeting started when I got offered a higher position on my 3rd week of starting there. At first I kept hoping that our Heavenly Father would expose these people and how they all conspired with each other to target former/current employees but it hasn’t happened yet. After some thought and understanding that I don’t know what our fathers plan is, I believe this is continuing because I don’t belong there.
I will not lose faith and allow these people to change the person I am. These people are testing my courage, perseverance, mental strength and morals so I have to keep fighting even if they think the odds are against me.
I’m 32 years old and I have never experienced such toxicity at work like this in all my life.
I will be a kind and understanding business owner because of these people. They don’t realize they’re helping me learn how to become successful with a healthy work environment for my future employees

@Terra Nova so I must say, this is COMMON for people like us.
People like us? YES… people of faith, integrity and truth.
I am highly introverted also, but have also learned to speak up more especially in meetings.
However, in my field (medical information technology) I am always targeted by at least one person. Lots of non believers and narcissistic people
I don’t play the games very well and hate politics. People that stay out of politics are also highly targeted for workplace bullying as well.
Don’t let them wear you down. Keep hold of truth. Rely on God.
I’m right there with you. I get it!

Even if more Managers were like that, unfortunately, there is only that much HR Managers can do. They can try to influence, train, and educate line managers and management on best practices and make suggestions, but it does not always work. Most HR Managers don't even try and just go along with it and execute.

I agree with you... unfortunately I went through all these stages... what really mad me sad was that several colleagues in the previous months were "disappeared", without saying hello, after I discovered that was practice of my previous company to pay 3 months in advance and ask you to resign. My hell lasted 4 months were I was blamed of everything... probably the most ridiculous was that when me and my boss were in a meeting people made questions to him, how if I could pilot the other people head to make questions to me, often questions related with the management of the team, so no my competences.
However, these story made me very insecure...but slowly I am coming out.

The sad part of this story is that in the conflict between the new productive employee and the old bully employee , the company owner will fire the new talented employee.

I was put on PIP but luckily HR saw through it and stopped it from getting implemented and marring my employment record I (I was in a different department in the same company for 6 years, and barely one and a half year in another department before I opted out) saying my superiors did not communicate enough my tasks to me. I then confirmed my early hunch that they are setting me up for a spectacular failure so that they will have "legitimate" reasons to throw me under the bus.
Thank God I resigned before the pandemic struck, I couldn't imagine getting stuck with such toxic people who don't know how to treat people right. This also reinforced my personal bias that expat bosses are more humane to treat their subordinates than locals do when they deal with their fellow locals...

    4. Seeking transfer to another department can it be a means to an end?

    • @rowenatraxler4184
      @rowenatraxler4184 3 года назад +3

Saying something to HR could even cause you more problems cuz generally HR is helping that manager and coaching them to protect the company from legal suits. So that's not helpful. Sometimes, transferring to another department can be helpful if the new manager doesn't like the old one, and thinks they are protecting you. That's where personal relationships come in handy across departments.

I often find myself frustrated with some of the ridiculous questions that Interviewers haul out, and wishing that they would actually take a few minutes to review my profile/resume before they ask them, but unfortunately there is no avoiding these types of situations. Your videos provide invaluable assistance with this and so many other scenarios, and have value for anyone for any stage of their career by providing insight into the thought process (or sometimes the lack thereof, which nevertheless must be dealt with) behind these questions. I also really like how at the end of most of your videos you go out of your way to provide encouragement for those watching to keep their spirits up and to remember their self worth. Thank you so much for doing what you do!

But the couintry i am living in, doesn't have many opportunities as you guys in the USA. Guys i will tell you this do not lose hope just because someone fired you it is part of our adventure to find the real job we are after and for some, i guess creating bussiness is a better idea.
