I just came from a toxic environment. In a matter of 2 months, I got bald spots, was placed on blood pressure meds, and had high anxiety every day. Very stressful. I am no longer there, and I'm feeling so much better.
I have just retired and I have worked in lots of places. I will tell you this. Be very careful in the workplace. Toxic people aren't always obvious and the ones trying to befriend you and are trying to get you to talk about the workplace and your private life are usually up to something. Just do this. Don't trust anyone. Keep your thoughts to yourself. Keep work and your private life apart. If the actual job is rubbish. keep it to yourself, look for another job, and then leave. Best advice of the day. I've had it happen, at more than one job, where someone acted nice, at first but proved to be a jealous troll, who hated everyone.
My current hov has most of these signs. Gossip is rampant and anyone who leaves is painted as a lazy person who had performance issues. I'm actively looking to leave.
Micromanagement, Machiavellian behaviors, poor boundaries, blatant favouritism, glaring bias, fear of giving feedback because the GM gets hostile and extremely high turnover. Yes I’m experiencing it all and aggressively looking
The last place I worked at had 10 out of 10 of these red flags. "High School" was the perfect description, with the "cool" kids inside the inner circle, and everybody else on the outside. It's a reflection of leadership. Very disheartening to see how many organizations fulfill these criteria.
What you mentioned in 4 through 9 is exactly what I'm experiencing. I don't want to leave without getting another job. I love what I do in IT, but it's so toxic. They are always adding more projects, but no compensation. Only his favs that don't even work that hard get raises & promotions. I'm planning my exit strategy, and hopefully, it goes as planned.🙏🏽🙏🏽
Just become his fav, do not work a lot, get promotion.... easy-peasy. The thing is, employees who work more than others are never promoted, it is a law. They just get more duties
Signs 4-9 are what I experienced in the last permanent job role I had nearly a year and a half ago, which I left eventually. Since then, I’ve been working temporary positions and struggled to get another permanent job. ☹️
Thank you for your video. It took me a long time to realize I was in a toxic work environment and many of the red flags are mentioned on this video, when I finally expressed my discomfort and reported the abuse to HR, I got fired. But at least I was sure I was released from a toxic place. It's sad to know there's nothing you can do besides leaving, because you know more people will suffer the same fate there.
@BrigetteHyacinth thanks for sharing. About 3months ago I resigned from a company I worked with for 8 years; however, the past year I took a promotion in a different department and it was the worst mistake of my life. All the traits you mentioned I experienced. I was get sick physically and mentally. That was where I experienced severe anxiety and stress. I was barely eating and drastically loss weight. It was terrible and I had to resign without finding employment. My last day was the best I felt in one year. Luckily I have savings to live on. They even audio recorded my performance review. Several others have left too. Four out of six people I started with in March have resigned plus 3 leadership and others in my job. It is about 10 people in my small department. But I still can't stop ruminating whether if I had acted differently from the beginning, I might have been able to work things out. Well ... gotta take that knowledge to my next job...
Thanks for sharing! These are so true. I expressed all this. It affected my mental health to the extent that I was losing myself. Thank God, I am leaving the company for good.
Thank you so much for your video. Same happened to me and I quit due to toxic working envrionment. New job and decision is difficult but i have saved my self respect. Please pray for my speedy adjustments and career. Would love to see your more videos on this.
Thank you for sharing this. It is yet another confirmation that I am in a toxic workplace. I try to tell my colleagues; unfortunately they are blinded by money, they think they are earning. They don't know I see in them how negatively our manager's actions are affecting our me talk and emotional health. I have turned in my resignation and am glad that I took this brave step.. it has honestly taken a toll on my mental, emotional,as well as my physical health. I stopped talking and speaking up after the negative effects of trying to help out at work. My colleagues even try to dissuade me from leaving, but they too are thinking of leaving.
I’m in the same boat. I just started my job back in May and everything she stated in this video is what’s going on at my job. Like she said though, I have to plan my exit strategy strategically and get out of there
I left mine three months ago. It is a private school here in Abuja, Nigeria. The management talk to you disrespectfully like you're a baby. Some were used to it and spoke in same manner. I wasn't and also wasn't ready to become toxic. My mental health was affected. I began frequenting to the hospital until I could take it no more. Now, I'm at peace with a remote job.
Worked in this environment many years ago. What was a very hard working, sometimes stressful environment, it was exciting and fun and most of all the senior management had your back and led from the front. Then there was a change and one person changed the environment almost overnight creating a anxious mood amongst staff, the sad thing for me is that he somehow corrupted my line manager, whom I had highly respected. It got to a point where I left with no job to go to, but luckily got a couple of short gigs to keep me going. In totally a better place now and I’m more aware in what to look out for moving forward. Thanks for the post
Wow, listening to this brought me back to everything that I had experienced as an employee. 2 years at a job and I left without a 2 week notice. My cup was full and as much as I did not want to leave my team, this was the only way to remove myself my under my bosses toxic ways. Thank you for this in a simple yet strong message of unhealthy work awareness.
I just left a toxic work environment. It took a toll on my health and I developed stress related digestive issues as well as off the charts high blood pressure. 2 days after I left I went to the doc and my blood pressure was 120/68. Hadn’t been that since before I started the job!!!
You have described the company I used to work for to the point. Been through all you mentioned on the video. Senior management just ignore you when youn raise issues. They just want to brush it under the carpet. When someone handed in their note they were treated badly. HR were useless. Did not have a clue how to handle these situations. Glad I am out of that environment
Worked for a company like that for 2 years. Spent the first year thinking it would get better once I start "doing good enough" then realized there would never be a good enough. Praise God that I am not there anymore.
You hit on so many vital points and I really hope that companies and their management watch this video. The term management itself is unfortunately still very widely misunderstood, to the point that they don't make or lose money because they stifle good staff/contractors. Thanks for this👍
I left a toxic workplace here in Nigeria after working for 2 months. All you narrated were exactly the same. Toxic supervisors, Gossip, favoritism etc.. I just knew i can't continue. Good pay, but i was losing my mind. Immediately i left, my joy and peace returned. Never tolerate a toxic workplace. I know you want money to sort bills, but I'd rather have peace of mind than die because of a toxic work environment.
Sorry to hear about what you are going through. I wish you the best. I always thought that it was mostly black people in the West who go through this. But sad to know that black nigerians can do that to their own kind
After bringing my head up for fresh air, I played back the tape and noticed some behaviors that I never wanted to experience again. Here I am, again, dealing with again, elementary school behaviors. Making me feel stressed. Walking away quietly and feeling happy about it.
I’m still traumatized and doubt myself before I can even get to looking for a job. All of this resonates with me deeply, additionally with fear based management.
Had a heart attack on June 16,2023. resigned from a toxic job of 7 years Aug 30,2023. I just couldn't take it anymore. Kiddie people and kiddie rules. I had to get out of there and I feel so much better
It is true for small firms too. Imagine when the owner of a very small firm is the bully and yells at employees. All of the above were true at a very small firm I just left (just 2 full time and 3 part time employees). Terrible experience.
Thank you for this video. It gives GREAT Insights. It is soooooooo saddddd that some work environments can be sooooo toxic. These types of toxic work environments you have described here in this video can only be COUNTERPRODUCTIVE to positive achievements. Whyyyyyy can't some toxic people get it? Are mental health therapists needed in some work places? As a 100% healthy minded person, I AM CONFUSED. Very Sadddddd. 😢
You are right on the money with that because I've been through most of every thing you described. If it's not right in the workplace, no amount of money or compensation will ever make you happy.
As someone who has been through multiple toxic work environments, this is one of the best videos I have seen on the topic. Useful information for candidates and those who need to recognize the signs to move on.
This has helped me see things in a whole different light. It’s not me! Thank you, I know what to do and I’m not on this earth to be in a toxic place. Turnover over 90%, huge red flag and many more. Thank you again, Brigitte!
Hi, Bridgette. I have been following you on Linkedin for several years. I love your Trinidadian accent! Out of the ten signs that you covered, the one that resonated most with me was the last one. I always say that where there is smoke, there is fire. When a company has a high turnover rate, then bad management is almost always the culprit. If you treat employees humanely, then they will want to stay.
Omg this my company to absolute perfection Im like a big red target ever since returning from a back injury from there... its absolute horrible feeling
I just came up on your video and it shine light on what I have been throw, when I was work at fast food places and how I as tried, how the Supervisor had the other employees asked me why Did I come to work today? I just should have stayed at now. I still keep living that same response over. And it has hurt me to go and find a job. That was very rude to me. They did not have time to train me. And every time something went wrong. She tried to shade it and make it look like. I was the person that did it. I had enough. I'll call and then report it. And still, the comparison of the company never responded, and the person he hadd to cover his back. Always would tell me. Oh, that's just how the company is. We just gonna cut your hours back. She has the right to do that, but when you call and report things at a job to the main company of the CEO, it seems like everything stores to unfold and the people that you work for a fast food. Since I have to get you and bully you and sick. Other employees aren't you saying? Thanks to you when you're trying to get above? You're ali've And you don't know where to turn to? Report? These people to the unemployment commission. I did not know what to do I still live this day for over some years ago so where do I go from here? I still have bad fresh backs, ha ha. I was treated.
1. Micro-management (lack of trust). 2. Exciting employees (treated poorly). 3. Poor work/life balance. 4. Employees fear giving feedback. 5. Gossiping. 6. Office politics and favouritism. 7. Lack of employee growth/progress. 8. No room for mistakes. 9. There's little or no appreciation and recognition. 10. Excessive absenteeism and high employee turn over.
I just came from a toxic work environment and I dealt with the bullying and micro managing and was even on orientation longer than I needed to be even with coworkers asking me why was I still on orientation when I knew my work. It was frustrating to the point that I would get anxiety migraines. I had to leave although it was a last minute decision, I planned on having a backup b4 I left but I couldn't deal with the bullying and harassment. I even tried talking to a lawyer. I even talked to human relations and no one did anything or gave a damn. I needed my health and valued it more than that job.
Favouritism, lack of career support, poor work life balance, high turnover you hit the nail on the head. The best feeling is walking away and no longer being a part of the chaos. Your mental, physical and spiritual health is not worth the torment. Take the lessons and left the trauma!
Thank you for sharing this video, one of the jobs I had was in a restaurant, and yes I suffered from a workplace anxiety, yes I delt with micromanagement where the boss was very controlling, oh yes I had the boss looked over my shoulder to see if I am doing the task right, I would be very stress out, and yes I agree it’s not worth it, oh yes I had it to put my job first before my health, the boss told me that if I missed out again they will fired me, so i had it to listen to them, the restaurant I worked for didn’t care if you were sick they want you to come in, they not going to like that if you take days of from work, yes I delt with becoming quite, and that shows a signed of a toxic work environment, oh yes I delt with workers that would spread rumors about other people, and I don’t engaged into those kinds of nonsense, because they would tried to dragged me down to gossip as well, all that causes drama and I don’t come here for all that crap, and workers would gossip about me as well when I had my head turned around, oh yes when I worked at a fast food place, they will treat the old workers that’s been working at the place for years, and the new workers get treated like crap, yes I delt with a toxic job like that where the old employees would control me everyday, and the promotion was given to a guy that’s been at the fast food for years and has became upper manager, it wasn’t fair because the boss wasn’t given people a chance on who can become a manager, yes it felt like I was in High School all over again with cliques and the boss would act like the young ones, my head was rotating in my head that the boss should know better, one time I came to work because my mother was sick, and I called my boss and they told me it was fine to come in late for work, I came into work late the boss told me that why did I came in late for? And I told them that you said that it was fine with me, the boss told me that I never said that to you Kenya, yo it got me pissed TF off, because I am not going to my job first before my mother, that I am definitely not going to do that, yes I was stuck in the same spot for quite of while they only wanted me to stay in the same spot, I told them that why did I had it to stay in the same spot for? They told me that I am to slow to work in the back of the house, and all I am good at is to work in the front of the house, the boss also made me bend down to wash the floors, one of the guest told me to get up of that floor, we are not living in the 19th century, you are not nobody’s slave, and they were right too, I told the guest that I have to make money to pay of my school and bill, the guest that ordered their food told me that all money ain’t good money especially if they treating you like that, one time I found a wallet on the floor in a wallet, it was about 70k so I reported it to the manager, they never called the person that lost their wallet, guess what the manager did blamed it on me when I stoled 70k out of the wallet and framed me that I spend the money which wasn’t true I was pissed of because what I looked like stealing somebody’s money and I worked for my own money, Yes I was bully mostly everyday, I wasn’t able to speak my mind and etc, I would cry when the boss treated me badly, I would be stress all the time, and I would bring my work issues at home, because that’s how upset I was, and I shouldn’t have to go threw that, my friend and family would tell me the samething that Kenya you are not the person as you used to be, you would be fun, always smiling, and going out, now you are being a negative person. I agree with you, no amount of money can compensate for a toxic work place culture. Always be brave enough to walk away when we are in situation that is unhealthy or toxic. You wanted be at a work place where you feel happy, the boss understands your issues, up lifts you at all times, and understanding if you have doctors appointment’s, treated with respect, loyalty, and being on their best behavior to workers, this is a great video that you gave to individuals to get a better understating on what it’s like to leave a toxic job, I tells the same-thing to my twin sister. No amount of money can compensate for a toxic work culture. This is why I also don’t take any type of job, because I told myself that how would they treat me? Like the job I worked in the past? You never wanna be desperate for no job, always do some research on the company, if the company has one stars, you know that should tell you about the company. That’s why I resigned from the toxic work environment, and now I felt so much better, because I don’t need no negativity around me, hold your head up high, and say to yourself that I am worth it, I am good enough, and smart enough to walk away from anything that’s toxic.
Wow, watching this video I just realized what is the cause of all my health problems and fears. I’ve been in this work place for 2 years, fear is what doesn’t let me move on. 😢😢😢
When passionate employees become 🤫.🤐..#FACTS. Disappointing part is that a culture of unchecked toxicity can become so normalized that it could appear to be the organization's or department's operating model. I am not certain whether leaders/stakeholders realize how much better employees would perform, produce, and deliver in a non (at least less) toxic environment, or they are oblivious to the true culture of the company. Honestly, I'd be more receptive to them not realizing as good as it appears to be, it could be so much better for all, than them being so out of touch, unaware, or unbothered that "the norm" of a narcissistic toxic environment is encouraged and thought to be "the reason" for the company's success (as opposed to it's diminishing corporate cultural, slow or stifled growth). I know it sounds the same, but it isn't (to me). I would dig a little further on the question of why a "certain" people leave, those who have been there, and those who are (stayed) there yet are a shell of who they were.
4:20 I distinctly remember one former colleague who was the informant to the managers. She got promoted- whilst still keeping her in the team because she was the eyes and the ears of the managers.
No amount of money can compensate for a toxic work culture. Thanks for watching! 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 like and 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼𝘀. T𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 🥰

Awesome and so on point. Currently, I am working in such an environment and implementing my exit strategy! Very accurate! Great content!

Like she said though, I have to plan my exit strategy strategically and get out of there
@@JWill951 Inner peace to us and everyone else on the same struggle. We are not alone.
@@chibbsokpy6992 I applaud you for taking that brave step when no one else did. 🙌💛 our #mentalhealthmatters. Keep going.
@@bytheinch_ Thank you.
The Toxic ,plus the color of your skin.
Good morning Ma,
Please l want to remind you that l' m still looking for a job.
from Chinwe Akoma.
Been battling this for months!!! I am taken steps to get to a better place and career:)
I just left a toxic job and these signs are just a few of the type of work environment I was in .
Honestly true. You did a good job of analyzing the situation realistically.
Glad I am out of that environment
sounds like h&m
Worked for a company like that for 2 years. Spent the first year thinking it would get better once I start "doing good enough" then realized there would never be a good enough. Praise God that I am not there anymore.
You hit on so many vital points and I really hope that companies and their management watch this video.
The term management itself is unfortunately still very widely misunderstood, to the point that they don't make or lose money because they stifle good staff/contractors.
Thanks for this👍
I agree with all of these signs. Some of them were the reason why I left past jobs
Thank you for this❤Nigeria especially I just did
💯
WOW! This was my last job. I am so thankful I escaped that place with my sanity😅
After bringing my head up for fresh air, I played back the tape and noticed some behaviors that I never wanted to experience again. Here I am, again, dealing with again, elementary school behaviors. Making me feel stressed. Walking away quietly and feeling happy about it.
This video hits the nail on the head.
I’m still traumatized and doubt myself before I can even get to looking for a job. All of this resonates with me deeply, additionally with fear based management.
Definitely can pull up examples from each of these to prepare for my exit interview
Had a heart attack on June 16,2023. resigned from a toxic job of 7 years Aug 30,2023. I just couldn't take it anymore. Kiddie people and kiddie rules. I had to get out of there and I feel so much better
Lost my job bacause tóxico of people and anxiety and making mistakes because of bad judgment and decisions
9:15 Indeed. This is exactly what I am going to do. Exit a toxic environment.
Many big corporates or consultancy firms are like that. I worked in one that had exactly those 10 signs you described!
It is true for small firms too. Imagine when the owner of a very small firm is the bully and yells at employees. All of the above were true at a very small firm I just left (just 2 full time and 3 part time employees). Terrible experience.
Small are even worst
Thank you for this video. It gives GREAT Insights.
It is soooooooo saddddd that some work environments can be sooooo toxic. These types of toxic work environments you have described here in this video can only be COUNTERPRODUCTIVE to positive achievements. Whyyyyyy can't some toxic people get it? Are mental health therapists needed in some work places? As a 100% healthy minded person, I AM CONFUSED. Very Sadddddd. 😢
Great video. Sadly, I have faced through all of these.
You described one my employers perfectly. I recognized that it was toxic. I was able to leave on my own time schedule. Thank you!
You are right on the money with that because I've been through most of every thing you described. If it's not right in the workplace, no amount of money or compensation will ever make you happy.
It’s the gossip and unrealistic expectations/workload for me. Those drain me the most.
Thanks for sharing. I agree with all the signs regarding this topic, especially gossip and favoritism.
Thank you for making this video, I had so many mixed feelings watching it, it made me realize how much I had suffered and endured :(
Very thoughtful, Brigette. These red flags are very good to know
Hi, Bridgette.
It is a daily thing in the workplace. I been experiencing this type of situation.
Hit the nail on the head! Wish I would have realized the big picture before it was too late.
Such a good point with exiting employees.
Omg this my company to absolute perfection
Im like a big red target ever since returning from a back injury from there... its absolute horrible feeling
Yes I dealing with this right now on my job
Bridgette, you hit the jackpot for the type of toxicity in office!! Thank you! I am seeing things more clearly for my next move!
OMG! I went through the same thing. My boss was constantly over me. I resigned because of this
On the money on this, so true.
Omw!!! My last 2 companies have been like this!! Luckily I'm out of those environments now.
Brigette thanls for your videos they are really helpful! Lets add that ears in toxic environment will bring you a massive burnout and low self-esteem
Of all the bully videos this one was the best! You hit every angle!
I worked in one that had exactly those 10 signs you described!
This is such an important video. Those questions to detect a toxic work environment are excellent! I have them saved. Thank you, Bridgette!
Bless you.
Sounds like the company I work for
I just came from a toxic work environment and I dealt with the bullying and micro managing and was even on orientation longer than I needed to be even with coworkers asking me why was I still on orientation when I knew my work.
Excellent video. Does such a thing as a nontoxic work environment exist??????
Great video. I'm currently working in an organisation that exhibits all of the traits outlined in this piece.
I am doing my best to get out!
Sorry to hear, what is your plan?
@@amsmith29 Currently job hunting. Submitting resumes etc.
I also left that kind of environment. Too stressfull.
Great video! Bang on point ... working on my exit strategy
Thank you Brigette✍️
I needed this today! Thank you for making me feel valid
Favouritism, lack of career support, poor work life balance, high turnover you hit the nail on the head. The best feeling is walking away and no longer being a part of the chaos. Your mental, physical and spiritual health is not worth the torment. Take the lessons and left the trauma!
The worst of it is sometimes because of the responsibilities of some workers ,they don't even realize they have a toxic attitude.
Thank you, Brigette. It is a good video, and you are a very pleasant lady.
I wish you well.
They told me that I am to slow to work in the back of the house, and all I am good at is to work in the front of the house, the boss also made me bend down to wash the floors, one of the guest told me to get up of that floor, we are not living in the 19th century, you are not nobody’s slave, and they were right too, I told the guest that I have to make money to pay of my school and bill, the guest that ordered their food told me that all money ain’t good money especially if they treating you like that, one time I found a wallet on the floor in a wallet, it was about 70k so I reported it to the manager, they never called the person that lost their wallet, guess what the manager did blamed it on me when I stoled 70k out of the wallet and framed me that I spend the money which wasn’t true I was pissed of because what I looked like stealing somebody’s money and I worked for my own money,
Yes I was bully mostly everyday, I wasn’t able to speak my mind and etc, I would cry when the boss treated me badly, I would be stress all the time, and I would bring my work issues at home, because that’s how upset I was, and I shouldn’t have to go threw that, my friend and family would tell me the samething that Kenya you are not the person as you used to be, you would be fun, always smiling, and going out, now you are being a negative person.
I’m happy 😊 you managed to get out of the toxic workplace.
Thank you for affirming that I am amazing, I needed to hear that. Good job.
Thank you very much for your post. This is such a blessing. God bless you richly.
Thank you for a great video full of so much information.
Wow, watching this video I just realized what is the cause of all my health problems and fears. I’ve been in this work place for 2 years, fear is what doesn’t let me move on. 😢😢😢
im going through this right now. they are trying to push me out after 6 years. yes im finally doing a lot of things better but i feel hopeless.
you had me at @1!
Thanks Brigette Hyacinth for your useful Advices❤
A well put together presentation Brigette.
Usually the management are complicit with the bullying. They depend on employees to carry out the punishments via social groups.
I love her videos and post. She always hits the nail on the head.
My workplace has a lot of witchcraft activity.
God Bless you, Bridgette
I just compared my job to the Mean Girls movie. Management against employees. Thank you for this.
Hi, it’s been a while, I am back for your wonderful videos… thanks a lot.
I used to work for this organization!! Thank God He freed me!
All your bullet points are exactly what I have dealt with my employer and I was so stupid that I tried my best to make it work. I regret it.
Thank you for the insight!
4:20 I distinctly remember one former colleague who was the informant to the managers. She got promoted- whilst still keeping her in the team because she was the eyes and the ears of the managers.
