  • With the release of the Razer Huntsman Mini Analog it opened up the opportunity for me to try out the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog for the same price. I'm glad I did as these switches are the future of PC gaming, completely changing the game, and making them one of the BEST linear switches on the market.

    The 50 - 100 of you that watch EVERY single video I put out. Thank you so much for the support. It means the world to mean and these videos really are for you. Those of you who are new here. I'm very happy you are here. If you have any questions let me know in a separate comment and I'll get back to you. What do you guys think of Analog Switches. A win? or just a neat idea that won't ever gain traction?

    • @emromw
      @emromw 2 года назад

      I doubt that analog switches will gain much traction unless they are so cheap that all mechanical keyboards start using them. I do think that the biggest upside to them are the adjustable and multiple actuation points and the smooth keypress and that makes them more of a gimmick. I think you put it quite well when you said that there is no point in going linear but not analog.

    I spend most of my day coding (software engineer) and I play FPS games at night (of course I don't care about the analog movement for game), do you recommend the analog or the liner? can I disable the analog in games with keeping best experience for typing?

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Год назад +1

      I have to say I’m a bit confused by your comment. I’m not really sure why you’re looking into an Analog keyboard if you aren’t interested in its functions. Unless, you are going off my recommendation in the video that I find linear switches to be obsolete and believe analog switches are superior and should overtake them. Analog movement (as mentioned in the video) only works on certain games, and only when you enable it. So, you can disable it whenever you’d like. Also, if the software isn’t running (Razer Synapse) the analog movement doesn’t work (I think, I believe that is also mentioned in the video).
      1. I think Analog switches are superior to Linear switches. As they give you the option to adjust them while giving you more finite control in the games it is supported and you choose to turn it on which is always better than not having the option. However, they come at a price premium and if you aren’t going to utilize that NOW or in the FUTURE then it isn’t worth buying that premium. It is better to save a few bucks and go with a different board with more features that are in line with what you are looking for. Such as Corsairs OPX Linear Switches. Which are my favorite linear switches outside of analog. Then probably a tie between Cherry Speed and Glorious Fox.
      2. Yes, you can turn on/off the analog experience and they will simply work like every other linear switch. Or you can adjust every single key to be different. Or only certain keys. As it is on an individual basis.
      I’d be interested in whichever one you go with and your thoughts on it. If you happen to remember and get back to me.

    Was thinking of getting the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog Keyboard and Razer Viper Ultimate Mouse for gaming on my Xbox Series X and PS5.
    Any advice, please, if I’ll be buying the right products? would help me a lot thanks.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Год назад

      The Razer Huntsman V2 Analog IS NOT a good choice for consoles. As the Analog switch ONLY WORKS when Synapse is running meaning that the benefits you see from the analog switch would not work and therefore be useless to you so why pay the premium for it.
      The Razer Viper Ultimate is an excellent gaming mouse and is a good choice. But with it being a wireless mouse I don't know if it would work on consoles.
      However, I don't use keyboard/mouse on consoles. I also don't play on console all that often as I'm more of a PC guy. I know the support is EXTREMELY limited in what peripherals will work. And that it isn't available on all games. Due to this I haven't ever taken the time to really learn about it. Therefore, I have ZERO info about all of that except for what is listed above. Therefore, I can't really help on what the best option would be. I'm not even sure if wireless components would work on consoles.
      So basically, what I'm saying is when buying a keyboard (unless if you'll also be using it on PC) I'd go with something relatively cheap and basic. As any software features won't work. When it comes to mice, the Razer Viper Ultimate (RVU) is an excellent mouse but with it being wireless I don't know if it works on consoles. Therefore, I think you need to do more research yourself on what works and what doesn't. And if you feel like sharing that with me afterward I would love to know the answers!

    Do u think corsair will come out with a full size new style with choice of switches to choose from?
    The flagship corsair full size has 2 types of switches and suck for typing.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Год назад +1

      Honestly, I think every main keyboard brand (Razer, Logitech, Corsair, etc.) will eventually come out with keyboards that have A. Lubed switches, B. Lubed stabilizers, C. Foam padding. D. hot swappable switches. As that is just where the market is going and what I think will keep them competitive. I want to say one brand just came out with that which was a surprise. But I think the switch type will be one of the last things to be updated (but could be wrong). As I think for the majority of people that isn't as big of a deal as the other features.
      Personally, I think the OPX are just fine for typing. As that is what I use most of the time at home. But it does take some getting used to. Additionally, I still prefer clicky or tactile switches for typing as they just provide the best experience as I tend to type a bit faster with them due to the tactile bump. So, it would be nice to get a opto-mech switch from them on one of their boards seeing as I currently see Corsair providing the best "gaming keyboard" as they have excellent features and the best specs. But fall behind on enthusiast features (lubing, swappable switches, foam, etc).

      @@KGB-FSB Agreed. We haven't seen a whole lot of innovation with keyboards from gaming brands for quite some time. I think with Finalmouse releasing a keyboard at the end of the year it will jumpstart the competition to start following suit. So I'd imagine maybe in 2024 that we start to see some cool things. But could also be completely wrong.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  2 года назад

      My personal choice would be the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog. As I think the Analog switches open up more opportunities.
      Really both keyboards are going to be pretty much exactly the same except for the switches. So, if you were going to get the linear optical-mechanical switches then get the Analog. If you were getting the clicky purple then you'll have to decide if you'd prefer Analog switches (adjustable actuation, dual presses, joystick/trigger control) or audible click and feel? If it was the Razer Huntsman V2 Elite. Then you'd get 8,000 Hz polling (which I don't think matters if you don't have increased key scanning which for this board is 1,000) and dampening foam. But you could always add foam yourself. So again, personally I think you are getting more bang for your buck with the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog. But as with all peripherals, it really comes down to personal preference and what YOU are looking for in a device. Which is the question you need to ask yourself. What are my goals for this device and which one checks the most boxes?
      I'd love to hear which one you decided to go with.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  2 года назад

      I would pick the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog (or any keyboard that has analog switches) over the SteelSeries Apex Pro. As Analog Switches unlock a lot more potential. Such as joystick and trigger control, dual inputs, and adjustable actuation. Whereas, the Omni-point switches only support adjustable actuation. So, I think you get more bang for your buck with Analog switches. I also think that Optical switches are better than mechanical switches as they are immune to key chatter, more reliable, and have a longer life span. But as with anything tech related it all comes down to personal preference and what you are looking for in a product. So, I think the main question you need to ask yourself is A. What is it that I'm looking for in a keyboard (analog switches, adjustable actuation, RGB, media keys, wrist rest, low profile, edge lighting, etc.)? B. How am I going to use this keyboard? (generalized gaming, a specific game, typing, a mixture of everything, am I matching it to a certain aesthetic, etc...) C. Which features can I live without? Which features do I need?
      I'd love to hear which one you decided to go with and your thoughts on it.

    70-75 gramms of bottoming out force!!!! ouch!!!!! those remind me the cherry mx Blacks in heaviness!!!! My first mechanical keyboard ever had cherry mx blacks and i sold it after just 3 months of use. couldnt stand how heavy th switches felt . I guess analog switches have to be heavy to work as intended though. If this is the heaviest switch you've tried , what would be the lightest one (regarnging resistance to keypresses/ spring stifness) . Thank you.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Год назад +1

      Yeah, the bottom out force is pretty heavy and you can feel it in your fingers when typing for long periods if you're used to something lighter. I don't always mind as I think it allows me to be more accurate when typing/gaming. And that fatigue I was talking about isn't like actually exhausting. Just noticeable for a short period and tends to go away after using it for any length of time. But I would compare them to be similar to blacks at the end. But you've got it exactly right with if they didn't increase in heaviness I think they would be harder to control for the analog function. But I suppose it would be interesting to test that out. Perhaps I'm wrong. But they are definitely on the heavier side all around.
      As for your question and as discussed in the previous comment (appreciate you checking out multiple videos and being subscribed for years!) the Razer Analog Switch would be one of the heaviest. Followed by the Glorious Panda switch probably. The Razer red/purple Opto-mechanical are definitely the lightest I've tried. Then the Corsair OPX. Then probably Glorious Fox Linear switches are also quite light.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  11 месяцев назад

      1. No, I don’t still use it. As I have moved onto the Wooting 60HE. Which from an analog standpoint is better. Which if you are interested in Analog keyboards that would be the one you should get. It takes a while but is 100% worth the wait. And in my opinion the BEST gaming keyboard you can get. The only negative is that it is a 60% keyboard. As you can do both normal linear presses (at whatever actuation you want from like 0.1 mm to 3.5 mm - *I don’t remember the exact number it bottoms out on so 3.5 mm is an estimate). Along with having full analog support between 0.1 mm and 3.5 mm *. And it can reset within 0.1 mm. And the latency is excellent.
      2. Razer recently came out with an update which dramatically improved this keyboard. As it copied a lot of the great stuff of the Wooting. But the biggest difference that I can see is that Razer’s switch actuates at I think 1.5 mm (compared to 0.1 mm) and then can go through the full range (I’m saying 3.5 mm for consistency sake but again, don’t remember you can look at the spec sheets). Also, the finite control say 0.1 mm to 0.2 mm doesn’t seem to be quite as accurate on the Razer. But that could improve with future software updates. But should never buy a product based on what COULD be.
      3. Outside of it not being comparable to the Wooting 60HE I’d argue the Razer board is still one of the best analog keyboards. Just because it is optical which means keys are less prone to failure and will last longer. Razer’s software tends to be excellent and they tend to be on the cutting edge. They do RGB better than anyone. And it has audio controls which I like. So, still think it is a quality keyboard.
      4. Nothing has broken on it. Keyboards failing tends to be highly abnormal though. I’ve never had a keyboard not work. But keep in mind that I’m one person and have limited scope.
      5. I haven’t tried the Apex Pro. So I can’t tell you which is better from testing standpoint. I can say that I’ve heard great things about the Apex Pro. But from my understanding I don’t think the Apex Pro is analog. Which means the only thing you are adjusting is actuation point. Which helps in response time (just simply due to it traveling less). But is very different than having analog support in games which does make a big difference depending on the game and your own skill of moving something minimally. But since you can adjust actuation on the Razer and Wooting AND they support Analog they would automatically win in my book. As they are capable of more for the same or less money. I also think Wooting and Razer are better as a company, produce higher end products, and have equal or greater software/firmware. The only product I’ve ever liked from SteelSeries is the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless. And even that is $100 more than it should be and I only recommend it on sale at $250. As SteelSeries tends to be premium pricing for average performance. But great build quality.

Just like the OG mechanical board the IBM Model M. Todays "mechanical" switches (the Cherry MX clones) on the other hand have about 0.5mm of distance between the two. I was so disappointed when I got my first clicky mechanical board. It was absolutely horrible. I just received my Huntsman Mini Analog today, and I've been typing on it all morning.
      Either Razer has updated it without letting anyone know or I type much differently/slower (40-60 wpm) than everyone who has commented on its loudness, because my Mini Analog is very quiet and super smooth.
      I didn't buy mine for its analog gaming capability, but for its adjustable actuation point and smoothness... well, also because it looked like it would be fun to play with.
      So far, and it hasn't been long, it has actually exceeded my expectations... it is not at all cramped to type on, it's quiet enough so my wife won't get mad for waking her up in the middle of the night with my typing, and the keystrokes are luxuriously smooth.
      For reference, my primary keyboard is a Model M, which is about as diametrically opposed to the Mini Analog as is possible! But I do appreciate both of them.
      One last thing: I held my Mini Analog over my Model M's keyboard, and the Mini Analog's keyboard is almost exactly the same size as the 60% portion of the Model M. The keys are even spaced the same. Based on that, I can't see how a 60% keyboard would be more cramped than a regular size keyboard.
      As of now, I'm very pleased!!!

    60-70 grams force and linear switces = total dealbreaker for me, but huntsman whit normal optical switces is nice

      That is fair. But I think the difference is these aren't linear switches (I mean they are) but actually they are analog. Which means while they feel linear (no bump) they measure how far you are moving them. With too light of a switch I think the feedback required be accurate would be difficult. If that makes sense. Like with a joystick you want some resistance. Too light and it makes it hard to do fine movement. Too stiff and same thing happens. I'm not sure what the goldilocks zone is.
      But with all that said. Yes 60 - 70 grams is very heavy for a gaming switch. I'd be interesting to see what the Wooting 60HE is. Seeing as that's like the best gaming keyboard on the market. Razer's also come out with a new Analog switch but I'm not sure how much it has changed. As I haven't looked super in-depth about it for a while.
      Isn't their normal optical switch like 40 - 45 grams? I can't remember off the top of my head. But I though it was super light.

      Honestly, I think I'd look into more of "Custom keyboards". They will still be mechanical. But they are going to come with other features such as lubed switches, gasket designs, and a bunch of other things that give you a better sound and typing experience. That you don't really get with gaming keyboards. I'm currently testing out the Aula F75. Which is a "budget" custom keyboard. This particular one isn't something you'd want. As it is a linear switch over clicky or tactile. RGB is good too. But not as good as Razer. But would give you a good idea of things to look for in a custom board.
      With that said, it can be quite overwhelming. So that may not be a good option. In that case, Razer has the best RGB in the business. The Razer BlackWidow V4 would be a good option. Either the Orange (tactile switch - no audible click just the feeling of tactile bump) or Green (Clicky Switch). Which also comes with nice features. Along with case foam, PCB foam, and Lubricated stabilizers. This would not be a good option for you as it is a linear switch (which means no tactile bump or audible click).
