Not putting the G14 and G16 in the Gamers categories is weird? you can easily fix either the heat or noise issues by uninstalling Armory crate and replacing it with G-helper, then undervolting and making a custom fan curve, after these simple adjustment they become better in every way than the Omen Transcend and becomes suitable for creator use since they're so compact and light.

Josh, I went with the Alienware M16 R2. Big battery mostly fully upgradable and good keyboard. The display is lacking to others, but I have a great monitor.
I picked up Asus TUF A15 with a 7940HS + 4060 (140W) for just $1330, I'd say it's nearly perfect, the build of the frame is very strong, hardly bends, performance is outstanding, in light and medium tasks the fans are turned off, you only hear them a bit while gaming at around 40db in Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing (but with a headset you can't hear anything), the only downside is the screen being 1080p LCD (At least it's 100% sRGB, 144Hz), and battery life is okey-ish at around 5 hours of light use. I use it for mainly game development and gaming and it's been perfect.
Hi Josh, thanks for such another great video. One question: Do you think IdealPad Pro 5 14 (AMD) is the best bang-for-your-bucks 14-inch laptop, given that you give the 16-inch version such high praises? Or does the smaller chassis cause some significant problems?
I grabbed the Legion Slim 5 14 late last year for $1000 and it still kicks ass. I can’t believe how close to the upper tier of this list it is 6 months later and at that price point.
Personally, the best value laptop I've seen and used is the Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X. It has great performance but, it gets quite warm while gaming. The best part is that it's regularly on sale for $800 at Best Buy.
Snapdragon only affects laptops $1k and up and only for those not requiring dedicated graphics. Plus we don't know what apps work and don't on those yet. Anyway, if that use case above is you, then I'd wait a couple of weeks to find out. But if you do see a really big sale on one of these. Then, it's fine to buy also
This video talks about so many variables that I didn't find it very helpful. Rank them somehow. most durable, fastest, best for office, OLED burn-in, touchscreens, or whatever. Seems like the common themes are fan noise and weight.
At this point, there is almost 0 reason to get the X over the current 8840HS or Ultra 7 offerings. Battery life is the single option, but everything else is better on the two other offerings. If you just need web surfing, get a tablet.
I know the Honor & Huawei laptops are not that popular, but I was thinking to buy "Honor Magicbook Pro 16" and the reason why I specific want this one, because it's the new release proper Honor's gaming laptop, and the Ecosystem is really good for around 1550€ (RTX 4060 edition)
the pavilion plus is now $400 off! wow.. but then if you look at the price its $20 more than what you show here... So they just jacked up the price to put a bigger discount amount on it.. shame on HP
Between Computex next week, M4 MBPs launching in the autumn & CEX in January, the laptop market will have a whole new generation of models to consider. With major generational updates from Snapdragon, Apple, Intel & AMD, everything here will be outdated & seriously outperformed so only buy at a VERY generous discount.
Doesn't add anything, but I do want to join the chorus: You're a forerunner in this field. Congratulations on this well-considered and immensely helpful compendium!
For me i just got my macbook pro 14 with m2 max 32gb and 1tb storage 2 months ago brand new for HALF THE PRICE, and tbh as a programmer and college student, i couldn't be more happer
Can you list good 2 in 1 touch screen laptops under 2,000 usd? Can you also provide list of laptops that can also be used as tablet in that price range? Thank you.
I'm eyeing the Yoga Pro 9i. It's speakers and sound quality are on par with MacBooks. Mini LED display is gorgeous for those bright scenes and outdoors. And it's great for gaming. And it slices through video editing like butter. Truly probably the best windows laptop for overall use
I have an older 13" Surface Laptop, but looking for something new for work travel. Priorities are light and thin, good screen, and strong battery life. (Don't care about AI, etc.) Would love to hear some thoughts!
and that's why I bought this year's yoga pro 9i. i'm so damn happy, I just stopped using my PC overall. I'm a wedding filmmaker: premiere pro, even with my 10 bit 422 4K a7S III footage, it runs smoothly. it blows my mind. I'm a gamer: i'm getting 350+ FPS in valorant at stretched 1.4K res, 250+ FPS in CS2, and 130 FPS in destiny 2 in 1920x1200... all while not having nvidia game ready drivers installed (because I'm using the studio drivers). I could get even more frames out of this thing, and I still don't feel the need too. I'm a uni student: if you put this thing in battery saver, 75% brightness or less, at put the refresh rate to 60FPS, this thing lasts the whole day and still works incredibly well. **ALL THIS WITH ONLY THE 4060 VARIANT!!! HAHAHA** oh, and I added a 4TB nvme inside. so now I have 5TBs of storage, just for an extra 200 bucks. this. device. is. PERFECT FOR ME.
Such a great video, I really like how you guys recognise how difficult is to choose a gaming laptop nowadays. While you guys do not include it under the gaming category, would you recommend the Yoga Pro 9i with an RTX4070? I do not play the most demanding games (mostly FIFA) and I feel like the laptop offers the same premium feel as the G16 but with less fan noise (and a smaller price tag!). Also...how was the battery life for the Yoga Pro 9i in real life use? Thanks!
As far as other reviews say the Yoga is a great option, as premium as the G16 but keep in mind a bit heavier, so the G16 might still be worth it if you're ready to do some tweaking to make it run quieter and cooler. But anyways, fifa is an easy game to run so even cheaper 4060 laptops would work for you just fine.

Lenovo's seem to do pretty alright in these videos. I do enjoy my Lenovo flex running Linux, might go for an upgrade. But likely wait out to see how these copilot+ PC's end up
Something very important in buying a windows laptop is the speakers. Rog 14 (2024) is in my opinion the perfect deal since its speakers and display can rival even macbooks. The webcam quality and mic is really good especially compared to omen transcend 14. I Would be interested to know why the 16 inch version was recommended in this video.
Today I received my Lenovo ideapad pro 5 14 inch AMD 2024 model. As far as I know this model is not available in the USA or even outside Europe which is really unfortunate. I don't have that much experience yet but it seems like an good deal(84Wh battery 2.8k 120hz oled 8845HS up to 65W 16.512gb and a healthy amount of ports, including a usb-4 and a full size sd card reader another type c 2 usb A's and HDMI 2.1 and 3.5 mm)for slightly under €1000 with a student discount applied.
Great video Josh !!!! I would love your opinion on something. Say I want to buy a Laptop for Research and GIS work what would you suggest ? Let's say normal GIS work Vs heavy GIS work. And let's say No less than 500GB SSD (ideally 1TB), no less than 16GB of RAM, a good port selection and a Number pad. If you see this, thank you in advance and thank you for all your efforts !!!
Josh! What makes you differentiate between gaming laptops and professional ones? Wouldn't a legion pro 9i or even a zephyrus g16 (2024) be really good for design, video editing and 3d work? Or do you think that for those high prices a macbook pro would just be better? (a zephyrus g16 with a 4090 here costs almost 4000€...). I'm a creative professional. I do graphic design, video editing and like to include some 3d work and well, if I could I'd like to do some gaming on my spare time as well. I'm very confused as where to spend so much money...
I don't like the artificial distinction myself. Both use the same underlying parts right now, though manufacturers tend to put higher resolution displays with wider color gamuts in their creator laptops, but they may cut back on the fast refresh rate of the panel.
I can only afford a windows laptop and I’m looking one to buy for my upcoming Comp Sci degree this fall intake. Just waiting to buy with my student discount and been keeping an eye on the Zenbook 14 OLED one. What do you recommend apart from the Lenovo one mentioned in the video?
make an video on portable good battery laptops either it's Windows or IOS, in which laptop is good for the Tech-related industry professionals such as programmers or guys having multiple VM's on the go.
Very nice piece Josh! I almost bought the Yoga pro 9i a few days ago. Would you buy the Yoga 9I or wait for the laptop 7? The Ause Vivobooks S15 Co-Pilot very tempting for $1,299. Thank you and your team.
After all it's a nice try to push Intel and AMD laptops but NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN THOSE POWER HUNGRY SH*Ts any more. There are currently only two options, MacBooks or Copilot+PCs.
i would just get the macbook air 15 or the ideapad 15. you want that screen size for sure, but don't break the bank because you won't need that much performance for writing.
@@PsychonautTV Thats true! I dont need much power. I'd even get away with the base configuration on the macbook - the cloud handles storing files any way.

I use it for mainly game development and gaming and it's been perfect.
thanks Josh and the team as always, for the awesome reviews packed with the most needed infos.
Hi Josh, thanks for such another great video. One question: Do you think IdealPad Pro 5 14 (AMD) is the best bang-for-your-bucks 14-inch laptop, given that you give the 16-inch version such high praises? Or does the smaller chassis cause some significant problems?
Just got an m16 r2 for $1450 (before tax).
Best deal ever
please do a masterclass on how to talk. its very pleasant and engaging to hear you talk
I grabbed the Legion Slim 5 14 late last year for $1000 and it still kicks ass. I can’t believe how close to the upper tier of this list it is 6 months later and at that price point.
Cant wait for thin laptops to start adopting LPCAMM instead of soldering them onto the mainboard , would really make the purchasing decision easier.
Personally, the best value laptop I've seen and used is the Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X. It has great performance but, it gets quite warm while gaming. The best part is that it's regularly on sale for $800 at Best Buy.
Should I wait for Snapdragon X elite chips for professionals or should I go for the above recommended laptops?
Snapdragon only affects laptops $1k and up and only for those not requiring dedicated graphics. Plus we don't know what apps work and don't on those yet. Anyway, if that use case above is you, then I'd wait a couple of weeks to find out. But if you do see a really big sale on one of these. Then, it's fine to buy also
@@JustJoshTech thank you I bought MacBook Pro m3 pro one
This video talks about so many variables that I didn't find it very helpful. Rank them somehow. most durable, fastest, best for office, OLED burn-in, touchscreens, or whatever. Seems like the common themes are fan noise and weight.
Looking forward to your thoughts on the Copilot+ laptops Josh. Also, do you know if Asus is going to be releasing the Zenbook 14X any longer?
At this point, there is almost 0 reason to get the X over the current 8840HS or Ultra 7 offerings. Battery life is the single option, but everything else is better on the two other offerings. If you just need web surfing, get a tablet.
I know the Honor & Huawei laptops are not that popular, but I was thinking to buy "Honor Magicbook Pro 16" and the reason why I specific want this one, because it's the new release proper Honor's gaming laptop, and the Ecosystem is really good for around 1550€ (RTX 4060 edition)
Your mother should be proud! ♥
very useful video thanks mate
I can't ignore how beautiful and portable the Zeph G16 is, and I do accept the small sacrifice in noise and performance.
the pavilion plus is now $400 off! wow.. but then if you look at the price its $20 more than what you show here...
Any thoughts on the new Surface laptops?
Doesn't add anything, but I do want to join the chorus: You're a forerunner in this field. Congratulations on this well-considered and immensely helpful compendium!
Johs and team thank you so much. Fantastic as always❤
For me i just got my macbook pro 14 with m2 max 32gb and 1tb storage 2 months ago brand new for HALF THE PRICE, and tbh as a programmer and college student, i couldn't be more happer
I think there should be a poll where people would vote what laptop is the most highly recommended for a specific task in that current year.
These are the best windows laptop before tge ARM RISC revolution
Can you list good 2 in 1 touch screen laptops under 2,000 usd? Can you also provide list of laptops that can also be used as tablet in that price range? Thank you.
thank you very much Josh, again, for help me buying a zenbook 14x!
You got it
I'm eyeing the Yoga Pro 9i.
Thank you very much sir, I am blessed any time I watch your videos
10:02 Linux.... This is what all I need in this high tech laptop
and that's why I bought this year's yoga pro 9i. i'm so damn happy, I just stopped using my PC overall.
HAHAHA**
oh, and I added a 4TB nvme inside. so now I have 5TBs of storage, just for an extra 200 bucks.
this. device. is. PERFECT FOR ME.
What do you think about Thinkpads, for example the T14s G5 ?
I got the 4060 32GB variant

if you watched josh's dedicated video on this laptop, you'll see that it actually has the same performance as the G16 w/ the same gpu, but cooler and quieter lol
i feel the zenbook duo 2024 is such a great laptop which resonates with a lot of people out there, so i say check that out too
FINALLY, the verdict (by Josh) I've been waiting for!
Quality comment-worthy content. As usual. Looking forward to see you reviews of the upcoming Qualcomm stuffed laptops.
Love your videos Josh. Blessings
Dude, you and your team are the best laptop reviewers on RUclips
You are a legend. Its comments like this why we do it
8:27 how can a laptop possibly be THIS bad in battery performance, thats embarassing
What do you recommend apart from the Lenovo one mentioned in the video?
excellent concise informative video, thank you, yoga pro 9 or g14? tough choice
A civilized way to request a review?
No thanks. I am gonna stick to yelling at you in the comment section.
make an video on portable good battery laptops either it's Windows or IOS, in which laptop is good for the Tech-related industry professionals such as programmers or guys having multiple VM's on the go.
would you choose the zephyrus or the yoga pro?
As a non-content creator, best laptop for me is 3 year old flagship model for 70% off.
Very nice piece Josh! I almost bought the Yoga pro 9i a few days ago. Would you buy the Yoga 9I or wait for the laptop 7? The Ause Vivobooks S15 Co-Pilot very tempting for $1,299. Thank you and your team.
Thank for your vid. Your choices are the best.
After all it's a nice try to push Intel and AMD laptops but NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN THOSE POWER HUNGRY SH*Ts any more. There are currently only two options, MacBooks or Copilot+PCs.
As between the ASUS Zeph g16 vs. Alienware X16 R2 with the same rtx spec, which do you recommend?
Glad you touched on the bios update for the G16 for the fans! Agree though that the 4080/4090 model is preferred.
Asus G16 GOAT is back. I see you in every single comment section even remotely adjacent to the G16 lmao
@@drewrudy1986 lol 😂
Good overview. Although as a writer I always struggle to find the right category for my use case.
Good battery life, good screen and ofc excellent keyboard; assuming you would want to write stuff wherever you go. My humble advice.
i would just get the macbook air 15 or the ideapad 15. you want that screen size for sure, but don't break the bank because you won't need that much performance for writing.
@@PsychonautTV Thats true! I dont need much power. I'd even get away with the base configuration on the macbook - the cloud handles storing files any way.
@@meph5291 Thank you! Yes the screen is a really important part - especially screen brightness.
HP Omen is a powerhouse for me. I’m using it for heavy photo editing and even some basic coding.
Im surprised the framework isnt here.
Zenbook duo 2024 is nowhere to be found in these videos despite the fact that it is one of the most hyped and anticipated laptops for productivity/coding!
can you do a video about touchscreen laptops, i need one for college having a hard time picking one and i trust you
I have to disagree with the review on the asus g16 oled vs the alienware m16 r2. I am using both right now and the alienwares fan is SO loud, I can even hear it humming during idle! The asus on the other hand is so much quieter.
Really. You have the R2?
@@JustJoshTech Yes, ive been testing both on diablo 4 and the alienware is very loud even after I tried messing with the fans in their software. the g16 is way quieter when compared to alienware m16.
Thanks for the info.
Website is really helpful.
