In the middle of deciding to buy my first mechanical keyboard down the line when I get my first PC built. I think outta the research I've done on Razer keyboards and hearing the keys be compared really well in this video, my top 3 is probably something like Purple>Orange>Green since I'm leaning towards a clicky type of sound starting out
For clicky, I've had greens over and over and one set of orange. I like the greens a lot better than the oranges but again it's all preference, however there is a reason they got rid of the oranges, they were just not that good at typing (compared to the greens) and not that good at gaming(compared to the yellow), they were very mediocre overall. However at work I actually use yellows now because the greens I had were just too loud, the oranges just feel cheap to me, and when I was on the phones, I had every client commenting on my typing. Since switching over to the yellows, I still get the odd comment if I am really bottoming out but still, I've been won over. I have become so much more accurate bc of how sensitive they can be at first, especially coming from something so forgiving as the green, but I type like a bullet now, over 100wpm. I was always over 75wpm but hovered between 75-80 for years but within a couple days I was over 90 and within a week well over 100wpm ( I blame the razer green and mx cherry blue switches for plateauing me for so many years lol ). I am quite the anomaly though it seems because I I don't really care which I use, it really depends on what I'm doing. I didn't think I would like typing with yellows but like I said, it allowed me to actually hit the speeds I knew I could when typing and it also helped with my accuracy overall. I never get fatigue from using the yellow as I have from long days typing on any type of tactile bump switch. It feels satisfying but after some hours of typing, you wish you didn't have to always press passed to bump to register. Something to note that people like to mention: Just as fast as you can make a mistake on a yellow, you can delete it too, it's all relative in speed and correction. With tactile switches you are less likely to make a mistake but you still will and it'll take longer to type and longer to erase... Yellows are fast all around and actually very comfortable. I never got the hype on orange though, I had one and I sold it after they went out of stock. In my opinion, If you want clicky and tactile you go with Green or Purple or mxcherry blue, nothing else lol. If you want linear, you go with yellow or redv2. And then it's whatever you like more. My home computer will always be super annoying and clicky. Always lol but that's because I won't be typing for hours on end on it. For that I had to go linear. The redv1s weren't my thing but once I tried the yellow switches I haven't really looked back when it comes to work and typing sessions.

I just replaced my Balckwidow V2 with the Huntsman Elite with purple optical switches. It's perfect, the only thing I miss is the Blackwidow's wrist rest, it was more cushioned.
@@670ramy They're slightly more satisfying and they're a bit faster, but hard to tell the difference without a side by side. Main advantage is they'll last a lot longer.
@@670ramy Probably the Huntsman because the switches actuate faster, but I type exactly the same on both, there's not really any difference in layout other than the 5 missing macros.
I had a Razer Ornata Chroma that was very nice, but after a few years of use finally needed some replacement. I loved the clicky-ness and the wrist-rest that razer offered with that keyboard, so i was on a hunt for something similar. Got to try out some keyboards in a store to get a feel for them and have a comparison. In the end the Razer Huntsman V2 TKL was my choice 2 weeks ago. Kinda missing the Numpad but not missing the clicky response honestly. The keys response time is amazing and typing feels like your fingers are floating over the keys lol. Also at 95€ it was a pretty good price new and the wrist-rest while not magnetic in the TKL version, is super comfy.

This is a very nice video, with a great and comprehensive overview over all the options. Sadly it is entirely useless for anyone that does not want a US key layout, because Razer only sells other layouts with green or purple switches. That would be a good thing to change, before releasing another type of switch, that cannot be bought :)
You may want to look into getting a Wooting keyboard (wooting.io) They're based in the Netherlands, so have good support for non-US layouts. All their keyboards are full analog. The older ones are optical, the newest one is hall effect (no debounce needed.) However, they only have blue and red switches.
What switches are you talking about? You can get red, green and purple in non US-layout. And perhaps the others aswell. I dont know all razor keyboards so im not sure which one have the yellows.

Mecha mechanical ones are meh at best. Mechanical have been around for a while so they are just copies or barely revised switches. Opticals are the only new ones and are supposed to last and faster but it is not just a switch and there are more points for failure
@@Corei14 Optical switches have less points of failure. In fact the only hypothetical point of failure is the LED vs a mechanical switch requiring contact with the board. There's a reason optical technology has been used by the military - because the lifespan is far longer than Razer's advertised 100 million clicks. So long as the LED is working you're basically golden because of the frictionless application.
Why does nobody include regular old membrane keys in the sound comparisons? That's what a lot of us are considering changing from using... and the clicking is offputting because everything seems much louder.

I don't really like clicky ones. And also a Basilisk X Hyperspeed, not only because it was cheap but for how long the battery life is.
Oh damn, quite neat. Even though I am not in the market for a Razer keyboard at this very moment, this is still quite interesting and potentially very useful for the future.
6:45 tell me about it, i came from a mechanical mx black with 60gr, into a newer rx red linear, where actuation point is earlier and much lighter... oh boy i was pressing buttons without realising :D
Best review I've seen on here... and I've seen a lot. Love the colour grading, great audio, and great editing. Your presentation style reminds me of Dave Lee... I think you've taken some inspiration brother 😉 👍🏻
Optical switches are only different from mechanical if they go for super smooth linear, analogue, or adjustable switches. There's not much benefit in eliminating hardware debounce delay as most software and games have their own much longer debounce delay, either to prevent cheating or complaining support calls. Also mechanicals switches last so extremely long in real usage that there's no practical difference when making a longer lasting switch. Even a good rubber dome lasts decades.
The sad thing is it was hard to determine which is the best suited for us when it wasn't available for the test. it was like buying a random bag that we don't know what inside. They need to come with a way that customer can buy one and satisfied with their purchase instead of buying 10 and still left unsatisfied
Most companies (including Razer) have little key testers now that come with one key of each color/type on them for you to test before buying the whole keyboard.

As someone who HATES the feeling of liner and everything about every tactile switch I've tried, but games a lot, razor purple opticals where an overpriced godsend
The biggest thing I want to see from razer is putting an actual analog thmbstick on the tartarus, i've been using the tartarus style keypad since the beginning and the biggest flaw in the design for me is the lack of a proper analong thumbstick.
I personally use the Razer Blackwidow V2 TE with Orange switches. I love the soft tactile bump that let's me know when I've really pressed the key. I tried the Huntsmen TE, but like Dimitry said, the accidental presses and the loud bottom out sound were impossible to ignore. Personally wouldn't mind a Blackwidow v3 TE with oranges though.
Unfortunately, for TE users especially the v3 is a step backward from the v2. In addition to people having a lot of quality issues with repeated keystrokes on a single press with the V3 BW line, the cable on the TE is now hardwired into the board instead of the USB-Micro you can disconnect on the keyboard side.

BROOO!!!! LOVE IT!!! thanks so much for all this information so usefull, regards from Venezuela! keep doing that amazing job!
Thanks man!
Can you get this in Venezuela??? I'm in Colombia and it's not in sale. Had to get a friend from Canada to bring it back for me!
@@MattCassCook you have to buy it in amazon (us) and bring it back here, is the only way, here exist few companies that do that for you
Razer’s switch designs are awesome! My favorite one would be the yellow mechanical
This video still ranks amongst the Top-5 to explain mechanical keyboard switches, in the entire RUclipsVerse! I'm considering getting a Razer TKL with Greens and am wondering how it would compare to Blues
VERY comprehensive and properly informative. Thank you for including sound examples. Keep up the good work!
Hey there! Thanks for the feedback! I couldn't agree more with your comment. It's great to see comprehensive guides with sound examples. By the way, have you heard about the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a fantastic tool for maintaining a clean environment around your desk and even in your car. It's compact, powerful, and reasonably priced compared to other brands. You might find it useful for optimizing your desktop setup. Just thought I'd share my thoughts with you! Have an awesome day!
Hey there! I've been using the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule for a while now and I must say, it's a game-changer. The powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities make it perfect for keeping my desk clean and my car's interior spotless. Plus, the multiple tubes and high-quality filters ensure long-lasting performance. Definitely recommend giving it a try!
I have Razer Blackwidow (green switches) I bought back in 2013, first edition i think, and it still works perfectly in soon to be 2023.
God damn it Dimitri, your work is just incredible. Not only are so knowledgeable and articulate but your filmography skills are insane. In the words of Dr. Strange.... TEACH ME! 😅
haha thanks :) appreciate the compliment!

the green switches with o ring's become quieter than the purple switches with o ring's?
I just replaced my Balckwidow V2 with the Huntsman Elite with purple optical switches. It's perfect, the only thing I miss is the Blackwidow's wrist rest, it was more cushioned.
What do you like more about purple switches compared to green ones?
@@670ramy They're slightly more satisfying and they're a bit faster, but hard to tell the difference without a side by side. Main advantage is they'll last a lot longer.
@@Pond721
Thanks for your reply.
Which one you found to be better for typing in terms of (typing) speed and accuracy?
@@670ramy Probably the Huntsman because the switches actuate faster, but I type exactly the same on both, there's not really any difference in layout other than the 5 missing macros.
@@Pond721 Thanks for the info.
What’s the keyboard called in 8:09??!
Also at 95€ it was a pretty good price new and the wrist-rest while not magnetic in the TKL version, is super comfy.
which keys do you have? i am in the exact same situation as you, my old ornata V2 got trashed and now I have a huntsman with the red optical switches. Do you have the purple switches? and if so, how do you find they perform?
The red optical switchtes.
@@C17H23NO2I see. seems like we did the exact same things LOL
@@winzygamer7086 I didnt even pay attention to the switches built in. I just found it nice looking, clicked around on the test-keyboard, loved the wrist-rest and bam. Bought lol. Especially cause it was on sale as well.
Yellow and green are my favorites!
He's like Tony Stark, he stopped the recording by clapping his hands.
My huntsman v2 analog arrived yesterday, and so far I am liking it. Quite a different feel to my old Corsair Strafe RGB. I like the ability to set the actuation point, so I can have it just as I like it, rather than be dictated to by the switch itself.
How it now??
Hey, I recently came across the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule, a compact and powerful vacuuming/blowing device that could be a great addition to your desktop setup! It offers efficient cleaning with its high suction power, and the keyboard cleaning feature is impressive. Plus, its versatile accessories make it handy for other uses too. Definitely worth considering!
Hey there! I noticed you were mentioning Razer keyboard switches. Have you ever considered optimizing your desktop setup by keeping it clean and dust-free? I recently came across the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule, which offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities. It's a handy tool to maintain a spotless environment, both on your desk and in your car. The key features include a powerful vacuum, keyboard cleaning, and efficient storage. It might be worth checking out! Hope this suggestion helps.
Hey there! Thanks for your comment. When it comes to keyboard switches, it's definitely a bummer that Razer only offers certain layouts with their green or purple switches. It would be great to see more options in the future. On a different note, have you ever considered the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule for cleaning your desktop setup? It's a handy tool that combines vacuuming and blowing capabilities, making it perfect for maintaining a spotless environment. Let me know if you'd like more information about it!
Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate your perspective on Razer keyboard switches. It's a valid point that having limited layout options can be frustrating for users who prefer different layouts. Customizability is definitely a desirable feature in any keyboard. By the way, have you heard about the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a handy tool for keeping your desk and peripherals clean, and it offers some pretty cool features like powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities. Just thought I'd share a new gadget that might interest you! 😊
running my blackwidow v3 with greens im pretty happy! i also have an original blackwidow chroma i used to use great keyboards all around fantastic company in my opinion
Because of your video, finally i bought huntsman v2 tkl red linear optical gen 2. Thanks.
razer huntsman mini with purples is the best in my opinion. I just love it lol
The ping tho
Peripherals have so much technology behind them 😅
Mecha mechanical ones are meh at best.

That haircut change though! lol
Yeah, I was just scrolling to see if somebody noticed it or not, and it seems hardly anyone did
Currently own a Huntsman V2 Optical Analog, it's way better than any keyboard I previously owned, even my K95 Platinum XT with blue switches
Why does nobody include regular old membrane keys in the sound comparisons? That's what a lot of us are considering changing from using... and the clicking is offputting because everything seems much louder.
I'm going from the Mecha-membrane to a Optical red switch with the deathstalker v2 pro. I'm super excited. I really enjoyed the mecha-Membrane I've had this keyboard for years. and I like the Low-profile design of the DS v2 pro and I'm interested in the wireless part of it as well.
I have a huntsman v2 wi5h purples but I kinda want a ornata just to see what it's like
Just found your channel. This video is just awesome!
Very informative, visual, and well produced.
This level of quality is really hard to find.

Razer Oranges are actually a nice tactile switch (when properly lubed). The bump is rounded; more like a Zealio than an MX Clear or Holy Panda. A bit too light for me for typing but really good to game on.

I’m using the ProType keyboard with yellow switches in the office and I love it!!!
the right razer switch would be to just get a different keyboard with mechanical switches
Yes, absolutely
I have both a Huntsman TE and Blackwidow V4. I love both of them. The TE took a little to get used to at first.
good video that actually talks about everything for keyboards and which razer boards have witch type of switch
I picked yellow keys on the Blackwidow mini for my upcoming wireless lounge setup, as I've only used Cherry reds and Steelseries fast tactile ones before and thats what I like. I don't really like clicky ones. And also a Basilisk X Hyperspeed, not only because it was cheap but for how long the battery life is.
Thank you for the guide, Hardware Canucks
My cousin gave me a Razer KB, and this helps me to understand Razer's KB switches
Oh damn, quite neat.
Even though I am not in the market for a Razer keyboard at this very moment, this is still quite interesting and potentially very useful for the future.
The Razer Ornata V2 has such a good sound for being the mecha-membrane Keyboard, and feel. I have to original Ornata, but its still very nice.
The B rolls and animations were soo SICK! 🔥

Linear Red V2 is so unique and I love it on my Hunstman Tenkeyless V2
The sad thing is it was hard to determine which is the best suited for us when it wasn't available for the test.
it was like buying a random bag that we don't know what inside.
They need to come with a way that customer can buy one and satisfied with their purchase instead of buying 10 and still left unsatisfied
sounds like an arranged marriage😂
Most companies (including Razer) have little key testers now that come with one key of each color/type on them for you to test before buying the whole keyboard.

Why isn’t there a tactile optical Switch?
probably not enough room for them to get a part to cause tactility.
the clicky ones sound like rain drops, awesome!
Huntsman Gen 2 ... Good performance and good to hear - IMO
The biggest thing I want to see from razer is putting an actual analog thmbstick on the tartarus, i've been using the tartarus style keypad since the beginning and the biggest flaw in the design for me is the lack of a proper analong thumbstick.
Are the Red Optical switches in the Huntsman Elite gen 2 or gen 1?
huntsman elite is gen1 its a 5year old keyboard.... huntsman 2 = gen2

Great intro, I like it XD.
Should note, I enjoy the same keyboard as you. I looked into the v3 and was disappointed.
@@michaelc657 thanks for the comment. Those are weird steps back. I had hoped it would be removable type C like the Huntsmen. Oh well, V2 still nice.
