Internet Explorer 9 is actually the longest supported Browser Version ever released. It is still getting updates on Server 2008 SP2 with ESU till 01/23. So it had a lifespan of 12 years (2011-2023)
Thank you for this video! I was about to dual boot my custom built Athlon 64 X2 PC with Vista and 7 when i got the notification of this video :3 thanks for the help 🤗🤗🤗
I think windows 7 and vista are waaaaaay better than windows 10. I have had windows 10 for about 5 or 6 years and don't enjoy them at all. I'd much rather go back to windows vista. I am soon getting a windows vista desktop or laptop soon. I'm finished with windows 10.
@@adventuresinnostalgia You need to install Windows Server 2008 updates and enable ESU to use Vista til January 10 2023, however if you manage to get azure updates, you'll get it till January 7 2024.
Great video, love your channel! I am that kind of guy who says that an antivirus isn’t needed if you know what you’re doing, but on my main computer if I didn’t have windows defender I would still install an antivirus (but not on Linux). Even though I’m “that kind of a guy”, I still think it’s needed to at least have some basic protection, especially on an end of life os. I’m waiting for a guide for windows 8 :)
Me too. I prefer at least one layer of security. In case I am tired and have a lapse in judgement of something. Do you think Windows 8 would be a good candidate this type of video?
You should’ve also made mention of vulnerabilities that have been realized in the past 5 or so years since Vista’s EOL, antiviruses can help thwart an incoming attack as a result of abusing such open vulnerabilities.
You make an excellent point. That's what the section about the user account addresses. A majority of new vulnerabilities found over the past 5 years can only be exploited from an account with administrator privileges.
@@keytester2733 Great suggestion! Me too! Thanks for Avast, Mypal and Libre Office, I am still able to use my Windows Vista for work! Too bad that Mypal no longer has updates, and I have to use Maxthon for backup browser.
Again, useful video. It's always risky to use an old OS. I only use Vista for my Minecraft server, but I took as many precautions as I possibly could. That includes this video. Thanks!
I'm pleased to hear that you found the video useful. I imagine anyone with the desire to run an unsupported operating system also has some decent knowledge behind them as well
I simply don't use any antivirus suites at all just for that extra performance! 😊 What I did instead is I just turned some of the options up in the local security policy console
@@adventuresinnostalgia Well, the video game Midnight Club 2 is the one that has this problem. With DEP on, the game quits to desktop when attempting to load into gameplay, with DEP exclusion the game gets stuck in an infinite loading loop, without DEP it works normally. If one game/program has problems, there are bound to be others.
I use all versions of Windows but hate explore and Microsoft Edge I use Windows 8, 7 and visita Windows update isn't a problem solving that was easy. Just need to upgrade my hard drive due to lack of space for updating. The games I own run fine before Vista and even the current Windows os Vista is simply better qaulity and that's the bottom line
Great Video! i will definitely put most of not all of this tips and tricks in use, i got myself an older laptop for cheap and it's a great machine to try older OS on. i can't use it as my daily computer since most software i use are starting to be win 10/11 only but having an old XP/Vista machine is always great. i used to have a Thinkpad T61 which was running windows XP until the GPU failed last year, it was a great machine for watching movies, tping and reading.
I'm sorry to hear about that T61. That really sucks. It sounds like you have a sweet new-to-you laptop to play with. I hope it brings you many years of joy. I appreciate the feedback on the video. Thank you

There is what I believe to be a significant gap between what is needed and the help that can be found in the retro community. I hope to fill that gap with my knowledge and elevate the community to its fullest potential. Note: I use the term retro very loosely here as a blanket term for anything unsupported by it's developer
I've never worked with an Arduino, but I believe this thread is what you are looking for forum.arduino.cc/t/installing-the-arduino-with-windows-vista/146207
I really don't consider openoffice a better alternative to office, especially 2007/2010 (really good releases). If i am to keep using vista, i don't think i'll ever connect it to the internet; in this case getting to activate the os in the present day might be the biggest challenge. I think you shouldn't remove tablet pc tools as it contains useful tools: snipping tool, windows journal, sticky notes
I have a Vista PC using Chrome. I had previously been running Avast Free but it has expired. Unfortunately I cannot activate it again - the activation process only takes me to the upgrade screen. I have tried installing Panda but the activation process tells me there is no internet connection when there clearly is a connection. How do I resolve this?
Do NOT use Avast. It is one of the worst Anti-viruses out there. Whenever someone would bring me their slow computer to fix, this was always the solution.
I started working on the video at one point examining the resource usage from various antivirus software. I will say that Avast was on the higher end for memory usage.
Not in the context of a video about security, no. The Kernel Extender opens up many new vulnerabilities. It doesn't make Vista safe to use. It makes Vista riskier and more useful
You know with extended kernel you could just use a upto date browser instead of the very out of date new moon which would reduce your chances of malware
Why waste time doing updates that way!! There is another youtuber that has all the updates for vista 64 bit with a batch file in 20 mins youre done!! Then download the extended kernel for windows vista 64 bit and install the latest version of chrome that seems much better. MSFN has all the info on the windows vista extended kernel. I am typing this on the latest version of chrome on windows vista with the extended kernel.
I see what you're saying. If you view this through the lens of security, applying the updates yourself is safer than trusting an installation disc image that a RUclipsr made. Not that there would be malicious intent, the problem is more not knowing exactly what was modified on the disc image.
@@adventuresinnostalgia Yeah I'd have to pass on that. You never know. If I remember correctly, trusted software donors on CNET had the ability to keep updating their donor files. Could never understand that one. An upload would get good ratings, and then eventually the developer would go rogue, loading with a new version with exploits. Not trusting any independent developer, unless maybe they're my neighbor.
In my humble opinion there is not so much reason to use Vista, 7, XP when you can instead use latest one and make it to look exactly like those. Just make USB installation with Rufus, remove modern store apps that you dont like and put on StartIsBack. All legal, safe and easy to do. And you can still unlock latest win 11 with win 7 key or buy one for 5-10$.

Nothing. It is both perfect and beautiful.
