I did something similar with an igloo 70 cooler. But I used an aquarium aerator with a long hose and large air stone about 6 inches round. The cooler was drilled to run the air line. I plugged it into an inverter connected to one of my trolling motor batteries. The inverter is in my glove box and the pump has a long deck screw mounted along the passenger console so it hangs suspended. Super quiet and works great. The inverter plugs into a 12 volt socket with battery clips. To turn on or off I just connect the positive lead. The cooler is big enough to lay in a 5 gallon bucket to fill and empty.
Great video! Spray foam the lid and it will help keep things cooler. Ice chest are only insulated on the bottoms and sides, the lid is just hollow plastic. You just drill a couple holes on the under side and fill it with construction foam. There's some video on RUclips that show how it's done.
very nice job, although it would never work for shrimp when fishing salt water. I had to put my pump on the outside of the cooler because the pump heated the water and killed the shrimp. Looks like it will work well through. dan
I LIKE THIS. Could you also have this slid to one side of the boat and have a water pump hooked up and have it fill the tank and add another hole where the drain is at the bottom and put a pipe there and during the day just pump out and replace the water. You could disconnect the hoses on the outside (both sides) if you ever wanted to replace cooler ???? YOUR THOUGHTS
Another cool addition would be a timer that as long as power is provided could turn on auto every 20 minutes or so between plug n pump that way u save even more battery.and i saw on bass master he had a coleman cooler that even had an flip lid on cooler lid so u only had to open small hatch instead of whole big lid that would be perfect.then just plug on hose with fitting to fit ur end pipe to empty cooler with that pump.better than most inboard livewells no holes in an expensive boat.i like that idea.snooky pa.
Alot of haters in the comment section as always. If they could do it better they wouldn't be watching your video. Yeah things can be done in different ways, but your way works the way you wanted it to. I think you did a great job on this project. As well as the evinrude/johnson outboard videos and the herritage revolver with the weaver rail is pretty damn sweet. Keep up the good work sir. I'll be watching.
Nice build.. I'm still trying to figure out how to fill and drain that thing without moving the cooler. Draining looks easy but filling it looks to be a different story. Hmmmm
On the water and can't figure out how to fill it with water.... Duh you stop by the store on your way to the water and buy a case of bottled water and pour em in until full. Then if there's any left you will have something to drink. Keep the bottles though so when you done you can fill them back up with the water in the live well and use them again next time.
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina do you remember what the name of it was ? It was 12 volt and plugged into DC outlet correct? Sorry to bother you with details. Tku
untidy construction, if you keep the lid closed with bait in it, they will consume the oxygen, so with no airflow your bait will suffercate so you will have to use your air pump as well
I leave 3-4 dzn minnows in a medium sized cooler for up to a month with no aerator and with the lid tightly closed in my garage, no suffocation issues. I only change the water once a week.
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina Okay, ya i just finished building mine identical to yours and i'm testing it this weekend cuz i'm trying to get it so they'll stay alive throughout the week
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina Check it out I bought one and the kit has everything you need with suction cops for the tubing etc. and the pump I screwed down but it took me five minutes to have it done and the wiring comes with clamps to clip on your battery making it an easy installation. Finally someone using am interior bulge pump rather than and exterior Mount aeration pump!
Glad I checked in tonite. I needed to make a livewell and your idea is ingenious. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for posting the video, I might have to make one for my boat,I like your idea of puting a valve for emptying out
Go for it!

@@Michaelsbackyardmarina Your welcome! It makes a big difference.
If you put newspaper in the cooler when it’s dry they don’t smell! Great video! Going to build one! Thanks
Great tip!
Regards for sharing this great video.
simple effective. I like that valve to drain out. I wonder if I put ice and water only would that keep colder
When the ice is in a larger chunk like frozen it an bottle it tends to last longer. I purchase less ice these days.

I use mine for the fish I catch, not the bait I catch fish with. Thank you for watching.
I found out a frabill air pump works so quiet I have to check to see if it's on , and that suprised me.
Built like a boss. Looked like nfun, and functional. Thanks!
Thanks for the awesome comment and thanks for watching

not a bad idea. The less hoses and loose items I have to deal with the better for me.
In Florida we ice our fish as soon as we catch them make some much easier to clean
Good to know!
Awesome u tough me something with the red valve us it as an adjuster for the Air raider
Glad I could help

Nice idea can you post a parts list
Do you use the aerator along with the pump? Or just the pump? I just built one exactly like this to transfer bluegill to my pond
Great video, I’d love to hear an update on how well this works. How long does it keeps the fish alive?
I have kept several 17" large mouths and blues gills in there for 6 hours with no issue.
As long as you aireate and keep it from getting too hot it's an aquarium.
Can this exact setup be used as a shad or live bait tank? This is the cheapest good budget build ive found on this subject
Nice work
Thanks
Love your idea. What size cooler did you use ? Thanks
Well I would say buy one big enough your fish you plan on catching can swim in it. This I think was a 48 quart maybe
Great sound effects, you sound just like mine hahahaha
great little build. Before I commit to building one myself is it worth having a live well if you don't compete ?
if all you do is catch and release, then don't waste the time or money.

Good video, I liked it. Only question I have is , how are you going to get water in the cooler,. With a 5gal bucket or pumping it out of the lake.
I just use a pitcher and it fills up really quick with that.
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina you could use an extra hose and just remove the pump from the tank and hold it under the water.

I just purchased a plastic pitcher and it on takes a few scoops to fill it up.

Where did you get the 12 volt airerater with the bubble disk? I have some that run on D cell batterys. Tkx for the video
I just got it at the local sports store.

hi you need some blue or green led lights good stuff mate
That would be a nice addition for night time fishing. Thanks for watching.

Cool my is fishing too

Use alot of battery running non stop with the bilge pumps
I run mine off of my battery set up for my 24 volt trolling motor. Runs all day with no issues while trolling all day.

YOU NEVER MENTIONED WHAT THAT CLEAR HOSE IS FOR THAT RUNS INTO YOUR BOX AND IS ATTACHED TO SOMETHING YELLOW ON THE BOTTOM?
for a aerator
@@michaelporrazzo1180 i must of missed how to install the aerator on the video..

Could I use a aquarium pump and stones
Remember, you boat is most likely only 12volts and aquarium pumps for fish tanks are 110volts
Are you from emerald isle? i noticed the license plate on your cooler.
I am not. thanks for watching
I would never have drilled but rather have roughened the surface locally and used a twin pack epoxy.

Actually using solder has a higher chance of breaking and failing since it’s a stiff metal connection. That’s why they make marine butt connectors
never had a solder connection fail in over 40 years
LOL solder connection not going to break!
Not if you know how to solder.

make sure you keep them cool. keep some ice or better yet some frozen bottles of water. The ice will last longer

It is just a standard bilge pump you use on a boat. I got it at walmart.

Fish slime and other crap will clog those holes.. pain in the butt really .. they work yes but ..
cover the pump with fish filter material or any kind of disposable filter material and your pump and pipes will run clean.
