I know it has been 2 years, but Legion explains this himself. Unlike other geth, his platform can hold over 1000+ programs at once and it has its own consensus. He was an advanced model and he didnt even need to connect to the Geth Network, his own consensus was enough for him to operate alone. Like you said, he kept a part of himself.
Legion and his sacrifice to save the Geth is literally my number one reason for picking the Control option. Both organic and synthetic lifeforms have their own cultures, personalities. Destroying that all... Does not compute as an acceptable sacrifice. My second reason is EDI and Joker. Seeing the Normandy land and the couple walk out on an untouched planet, their happiness... Is why I cannot hate the coloured endings like most of the Mass Effect fans do.

Jon Goli He has dialogue for the collector ship,so it's kinda possible that originally all story quests were available to the player ala ME1. Since Legion has dialogue recorded for nearly all the recruitment missions (Garrus',Thane's,Tali's,Grunt's,Mordin's,ect) he was probably one of the first companions to be acquired. that explains the fact that he has a lot of dialogue sessions more than many other squadmates I'm sure that everything changed when Drew Karpyshyn left ME2's direction
i admired him for the ideals that explained to me in ME2,they wanted to forge their own future. Since i don't believe ME3 because ME3 is simply retarded,shame that Chris L'Etoile left after ME2

That’s about right, but Legion didn’t upload all that time he spend with Shepard to the Consensus, so this backup version only ‘remembers’ Eden Prime and nothing more, and all those evens that shaped Legion into what he’s become aren’t there.
I kinda believe with how they shape the armor to the curvature of the female it. Adds some amount of bullet deflection based on how durable, tough and reliable the metals in the armor are. Kinda like a tank, tank's turn themselves in a certain angle in combat to make the most use of their armor

in a similar way to how the romance system works, the fleets need to like you enough to convince them. In other words, go do more boring side mission shit before you do the main missions. It worked the same way in ME2 when trying to save all crew members, needed a lot of the side shit done.
You can't save both in ME3. Legion dies regardless - if you choose the quarians, Legion is killed by Tali or Shepard as is depicted in the video. If the geth were chosen or peace was made, Legion dies to give the geth intelligence, as is also depicted in the video. Tali dies as well if the geth were chosen - she throws herself off the nearby cliff.
Legion does die, but with the nature of the Geth, it's not hard to imagine that the Reaper Code he uploaded has a bit of Legion's "consensus" in it. Thus, in whatever small way, all Geth after this choice are partly Legion.
Legion is like the terminator it was programed to be merciless assassin and learn off organics but like the terminator it began to learn how to feel emotion but Legion hides it because it believes in logic like the Vulcans do.
He wasn't built to kill. He was built to learn about the organics, so he was programed to "think" like the organics, but he doesn't feel emotions. What he does is determinated by logic. At least that's how I think he worked.
Adrian Matuszewski That was he originally was, but Legion did gain human emotion. For an example, asking why Legion used Shepard's armor will have him evade the question, even though there was little to no harm to simply answer Shepard. I'm not even sure how he gained emotion really, but he did.

I think it was because of his mission. Do take note: they are programs lumped together, and their data might be shared, but another thing is that Legion was reporting back mission-related data - data that was important to their mission, and not his entire backup himself. If he survives, the time he spent with the Normandy changed him enough that any personality data that he has might as well never been archived - indicative of his forming personality. That is one.
My soul suffers everytime I hear "We are not Legion", I almost shed some tears in the part, I just can't imagine that my favorite character in ME could be dead.
The VI blames Shepard for allowing his race to die because he's organic. Legion refuses to let the Geth die, but he doesn't blame you for it. It's the difference between "I was wrong to trust you" and "I will NOT allow this to happen"
This video makes me frustratingly curious what would happen in these scenes if you *NEVER* activated Legion - or sold it to Cerberus. Shepard couldn't remember Legion if s/he never met it. And I can't find any videos of how that scenario goes...
It would have to be. Legion is an optional squadmate in #2, and it is very possible to never activate him - immediately after the mission where he is recovered, you are given the choice to either keep him to reactivate, or sell the geth platform to Cerberus. If you sell him to Cerberus, Legion will never join your squad, as Cerberus proceeds to take him apart to learn more about the Geth, as noted in Shadow Broker files if you do that DLC. So, Shepard will have never met Legion, and thus wouldn't have any memories of it to pester the geth VI with.
Well, I do know that if you sell Legion to Cerberus, you eventually face it as an enemy at Cerberus HQ in ME3. Other than that, I assume the game just replaces it with the Geth VI, regardless of whether you ever spoke to it or not.
I recently did a Renegade run of the game where I sold Legion to Ceberus. Aside from the possibility of mentioning that you remember its past as Legion, it just as it is here.
you do know there was a Third option right? if you have enough Paragon or Renegade you can force them to stop there attack and then the Geth and Quarians both join your fleet.. and its not even that hard to do.. I did it first try..
To get the third option, beside having enough reputation, you need to play ME2 and get Tali not to be exiled since it is assumed that Tali is exiled if you just play ME3
yes and as we heard in these two play throughs of the final mission she states "This is Admiral Zorah" so we know they not only played Mass Effect 2 but they kept her from getting Exiled.. and its not a big leap to assume that they could still pull it out by playing again and getting better rep before doing this mission and just spicing that bit of footage in..
that only works if both Tali and Legion aer alive though in the active playthrough and you succeed in saving Admiral Koris and as YJK said there are certain things that need to happen un ME2 as well
Dang it! I guess I didn't have enough Paragon to save the Geth & Quarians then. I saved Legion from ME2, got the Flotilla not to banish Tali Zora, and the Legion still died. Next time I play through, I'll get my paragon all the way up.
God it’s heartbreaking seeing this. Just makes the ending of 2 that much more satisfying when you make all the right choices and get everyone out alive

Man, this is the version of Legion I got during my first playthrough of ME3. It messed with my head so damn much. Eventually this made my decision to destroy the Geth much easier since I didn't trust the crap out of this hologram. Also I still remembered all the sh*t the Geth put me through during ME1.

Ugh...fighting the Rannoch Reaper; that is easily one of the most annoying parts of the game. I even found Earth easier to complete than Rannoch, and you're up against countless Brutes, Banshees, Husks, and so many other enemies. I hate the former three since they're all capable of insta-kill. I HATE those kinds of enemies.
Red Sniper Not really - I had a harder time doing Feros in ME1 (though I did it before Noveria which maybe I should've done first??) than I did playing Rannoch in ME3. And I said as much

What a poor choices. Legion can be saved till ME3 when he will sacrifice him self for gets. Then with enough persuade skills you can save both fleets. So double win. Anything else is not acceptable for me. Full paragon.

It's part of the collector's edition. If you buy that version, you get a card inside the game's packaging that you can then redeem on your 360/ps3/pc. That hoodie was one of the items you receive in game---along with some new weapons, a robot dog that walks around the shuttle bay, and *new* battle outfits for Liara/Kaiden/Ashley/James---(although, they are just palette swaps of their default armors.) If you absolutely have to have it---you can probably buy an actual, unused card on e-bay.

I always wonder who created this Legion replacement, why and how. Was it the geth? Why? It would be easier to construct another prototype platform, download 1000 or so geth into it and send it out again. Also no point in holographically projecting the damage and N7 armor onto the platform. Was it Cerberus based on what EDI had from him and his disabled platform recovered from the Collector base? If so how did they get the platform out in the worse playthroughs where you had noone spare to collect the platform and/or blew up the base? Even then, the platform should be legitimately in a damaged state and not need to make a projection of it. Who else could it have been? It just doesnt add up.
legion was always one of the most crucial characters..not only did he end a 300 year old war and reconnect the geth with their creators he also convinced the geth to allow the quarians back to their world and even rebuild and assist the alliance and oppose the reapers without legion it removes so much of the story
I had a broken copy of one at first... so my playthrough of 2 wasn't good and my Mass Effect 3 playthrough was so depressing. Although nothing made me more sad than having Legion not recognize me and the way Shepard reacted.
There might be a way to still get the geth and quarians working together IF you got the civilian admiral. there are VERY specific things you need to do to get the truch and i dont think this guy did them right. can someone else try it and see if it works and edit the wikia if it is not already? i could never bring myself to hurt legion.
That Garrus and Legion convo makes more sense all of a sudden; always thought he was a little standoffish with Legion about the gun improvements and it being an emergency despite surviving a suicide mission together
So many aspects of this game that are still new to me 6 months later. I had no idea this dynamic would occur if Legion died. I only experienced Legion and the Legion VI, not the reconstruction. Neat. Poor Shepard. Must have torn her up to see her friend there without a soul or memory.
On behalf on everyone I want to that the people who make these little videos. I enjoy being able to see what would have happened if I did this or hadn't done that, without having to replay the game dozens of times. I mean as much as I love Mass Effect it does get a little old after a few dozen play throughs.

This makes me so sad… it's official, I am never, ever letting Legion die in ME2.
I'm crying.... I'm crying because the facial expression on legion is better then all of the facial expression in mass effect andromeda.

I think it was because of his mission. Do take note: they are programs lumped together, and their data might be shared, but another thing is that Legion was reporting back mission-related data - data that was important to their mission, and not his entire backup himself. If he survives, the time he spent with the Normandy changed him enough that any personality data that he has might as well never been archived - indicative of his forming personality. That is one.
My soul suffers everytime I hear "We are not Legion", I almost shed some tears in the part, I just can't imagine that my favorite character in ME could be dead.

But think about it no one is gonna be understanding of the fact their people should die because the opposing wouldn't back off.
He does the same thing, but he understands when you shut him off, even asking "Shepard, does this unit have a soul?"
There he was basically asking "Why do this?"if he was understanding he wouldn't assault shep in the first place.
The VI blames Shepard for allowing his race to die because he's organic. Legion refuses to let the Geth die, but he doesn't blame you for it.
It's the difference between "I was wrong to trust you" and "I will NOT allow this to happen"

Apparently Legion only uploaded his memories from before the Eden Prime. Which is weird because he connected to the consensus many times in ME2 :S

No, unfortunately I don’t have that ME2 save and don’t know which plot ID number it is in editor.
This video makes me frustratingly curious what would happen in these scenes if you *NEVER* activated Legion - or sold it to Cerberus. Shepard couldn't remember Legion if s/he never met it. And I can't find any videos of how that scenario goes...

It would have to be. Legion is an optional squadmate in #2, and it is very possible to never activate him - immediately after the mission where he is recovered, you are given the choice to either keep him to reactivate, or sell the geth platform to Cerberus. If you sell him to Cerberus, Legion will never join your squad, as Cerberus proceeds to take him apart to learn more about the Geth, as noted in Shadow Broker files if you do that DLC.
So, Shepard will have never met Legion, and thus wouldn't have any memories of it to pester the geth VI with.
Blazieth Then Legion is replaced with some Geth VI shit. Its just reskined model of dead Legion but even less frendly.
Well, I do know that if you sell Legion to Cerberus, you eventually face it as an enemy at Cerberus HQ in ME3.
Other than that, I assume the game just replaces it with the Geth VI, regardless of whether you ever spoke to it or not.
I recently did a Renegade run of the game where I sold Legion to Ceberus. Aside from the possibility of mentioning that you remember its past as Legion, it just as it is here.
Really? I only died once (the first time) and I fought this fight like 30 times or more. The trick is to roll, not run.

you do know there was a Third option right? if you have enough Paragon or Renegade you can force them to stop there attack and then the Geth and Quarians both join your fleet.. and its not even that hard to do.. I did it first try..
To get the third option, beside having enough reputation, you need to play ME2 and get Tali not to be exiled since it is assumed that Tali is exiled if you just play ME3
yes and as we heard in these two play throughs of the final mission she states "This is Admiral Zorah" so we know they not only played Mass Effect 2 but they kept her from getting Exiled.. and its not a big leap to assume that they could still pull it out by playing again and getting better rep before doing this mission and just spicing that bit of footage in..
that only works if both Tali and Legion aer alive though in the active playthrough and you succeed in saving Admiral Koris and as YJK said there are certain things that need to happen un ME2 as well
Dang it! I guess I didn't have enough Paragon to save the Geth & Quarians then. I saved Legion from ME2, got the Flotilla not to banish Tali Zora, and the Legion still died. Next time I play through, I'll get my paragon all the way up.

God it’s heartbreaking seeing this. Just makes the ending of 2 that much more satisfying when you make all the right choices and get everyone out alive
without his old memories, he seems almost heartless. thank god keeping him alive in ME2 keeps him the same in ME3

man I wish the real legion in ME3 would instead have the hologram armor. Then when you asked him why he has it he should say: We lost the original armor. Shep: But we did you make a hologram of it? Legion: No data available=I

The fact that it isn't Legion made it so much easier to kill it, lol.

Man, this is the version of Legion I got during my first playthrough of ME3. It messed with my head so damn much. Eventually this made my decision to destroy the Geth much easier since I didn't trust the crap out of this hologram. Also I still remembered all the sh*t the Geth put me through during ME1.

I don't understand, couldn't the geth VI just go hide in a corner and upload the code without asking Shepard? I think requesting permission to save his entire species is a bit hard to believe

Actually this fight is exactly the same on any difficulty (I tried) and I play on Insanity.

I like all the subtle hints at how much more character legion had.
For me it is either Control or Destroy. Somehow, I see Synthesis as the ultimate evil... Don't ask me why, I don't know.

Ugh...fighting the Rannoch Reaper; that is easily one of the most annoying parts of the game. I even found Earth easier to complete than Rannoch, and you're up against countless Brutes, Banshees, Husks, and so many other enemies. I hate the former three since they're all capable of insta-kill. I HATE those kinds of enemies.
Insta-kill should be considered cheating. And thus broken.

Not really - I had a harder time doing Feros in ME1 (though I did it before Noveria which maybe I should've done first??) than I did playing Rannoch in ME3.

Wow. It's kindof crazy how different this is form legion. Who knew I'd find a geth to be warm and likeable?
RXdash78 Uhm. i did. thats why i saved him. that and the fact i find humans evil sods, and seen as all the aliens in mass effect are to human for my liking i largely like the geth over any organic OH apart from the turins and krogan.
It's 6 years later, and when I hear him say "We are not Legion", it still breaks me.
What a poor choices. Legion can be saved till ME3 when he will sacrifice him self for gets. Then with enough persuade skills you can save both fleets. So double win. Anything else is not acceptable for me. Full paragon.

Got this Legion on my first playthrough. Didn’t realize how important he really was until my second playthrough when I saved every one in ME2.
This is depressing. Why would anyone want Not!Legion instead of Legion?
It's part of the collector's edition. If you buy that version, you get a card inside the game's packaging that you can then redeem on your 360/ps3/pc. That hoodie was one of the items you receive in game---along with some new weapons, a robot dog that walks around the shuttle bay, and *new* battle outfits for Liara/Kaiden/Ashley/James---(although, they are just palette swaps of their default armors.)
If you absolutely have to have it---you can probably buy an actual, unused card on e-bay.

I always wonder who created this Legion replacement, why and how.
Was it the geth? Why? It would be easier to construct another prototype platform, download 1000 or so geth into it and send it out again. Also no point in holographically projecting the damage and N7 armor onto the platform.
Was it Cerberus based on what EDI had from him and his disabled platform recovered from the Collector base? If so how did they get the platform out in the worse playthroughs where you had noone spare to collect the platform and/or blew up the base? Even then, the platform should be legitimately in a damaged state and not need to make a projection of it.
Who else could it have been? It just doesnt add up.
I remember playing ME2 and Legion was taken by the seeker swarms in the section with the biotic specialist during the suicide mission. _Error! Error!_

legion was always one of the most crucial characters..not only did he end a 300 year old war and reconnect the geth with their creators he also convinced the geth to allow the quarians back to their world and even rebuild and assist the alliance and oppose the reapers without legion it removes so much of the story

I actually hear the emotion in both of their voices.
I had a broken copy of one at first... so my playthrough of 2 wasn't good and my Mass Effect 3 playthrough was so depressing. Although nothing made me more sad than having Legion not recognize me and the way Shepard reacted.
Bonus with one of the pre-order special editions. Probably will be included in some kind of regular DLC eventually.

There might be a way to still get the geth and quarians working together IF you got the civilian admiral. there are VERY specific things you need to do to get the truch and i dont think this guy did them right. can someone else try it and see if it works and edit the wikia if it is not already? i could never bring myself to hurt legion.
But I saved both the quarians and geth without Koris' help.

If you save Korris it allows you to get peace without needing to have tali and legion loyal.
That Garrus and Legion convo makes more sense all of a sudden; always thought he was a little standoffish with Legion about the gun improvements and it being an emergency despite surviving a suicide mission together
So many aspects of this game that are still new to me 6 months later. I had no idea this dynamic would occur if Legion died. I only experienced Legion and the Legion VI, not the reconstruction. Neat. Poor Shepard. Must have torn her up to see her friend there without a soul or memory.
On behalf on everyone I want to that the people who make these little videos. I enjoy being able to see what would have happened if I did this or hadn't done that, without having to replay the game dozens of times. I mean as much as I love Mass Effect it does get a little old after a few dozen play throughs.
So, how many times that platform says in-game "We are not Legion"
