I've been shooting with the Sony RX10m4 for 18 months, building a name for myself in the disc golf community around Philly. Actually shot a wedding and a proposal with it too. Finally got my A9 yesterday and the Tamron 70-180 2.8. The jump from 1" sensor to full frame is very real. This will be my next lens for shooting playoffs and birds in flight. My dream lens right now is the 135 1.8 GM. Looks so nice. Thanks for all the reviews and showing how good 3rd party glass can be. I'd love to bag all Sony stuff but I'm not pulling in $10k a month yet.
That shifting zoom ring thing that Tamron keeps using as a feature needs to go. Forget if it was the same function on the older lens but what's so problematic about a small zoom lock switch like every other lens has? Is anybody asking for a shifting zoom ring lock? Every review I see complains about em.
I don’t use it much at all on the 150-600 mostly because I forget it’s there but, it is nice to have when shooting/tracking birds in flight to be able to lock it at 600 when hiking round. I use the lens a lot and I’ve never had an issue with accidentally locking it.
This lens is very similar to Tamron's 150-600 G2 for DSLRs. Including the jerky VC, which makes it unusable for handheld video. Supposedly VC mode 2 is for panning. But my EF mount 150-600 just doesn't pan well in any mode. Jared, you should have tested this lens in actual action scenarios (BIF, moving cars, etc.). This lens is sharp, yes, but its VC is annoying and can actually hurt image quality. If Canon's RF 100-500 ever comes back in stock, I'm dumping my Tamron for it.

For wildlife I would say that you need to see how this handles animals in motion. Animals barely moving like at the zoo is not a great test of real world application. Also as a note the Sony 200-600 can be paired with the 1.4x or 2x TCs which the Tamron can not.
@@froknowsphoto Normally I wouldn't but a test true real world application says it works. Taken with an A1. www.amazon.com/photos/shared/JVJRt-52TbyAWSEK9k0Pnw.1s_nRze33Ni44HV-QJ-D8Z That was taken just this last week in Wilmington. You live in Philly within a 30 min drive you have plenty of places to test on wildlife without needed to wait long periods of time for things to "happen". I know this to be true because I do it on a regular basis.
My question is there a way that I can shadow you? I live near you ( Lancaster County) and I am just starting out in photo and looking to learn as much as I can.
great video... loved the sample pictures you just exploited the lens... i have the tamron trinity and want to have big zoom like this this is a little costly what do you say 100-400 sigma.. or this .. and can we expect low prices soon black friday u see :)
I just rented this and previously the 200-600. Never considered the 100-400 as I also have the Tamron Trinity for my a7iii and it just isn't long enough for wildlife, sports and aircraft. But the extra 100mm from the 150-500 is really useful. This is the super tele to get if you don't want to budget more and/or don't want such a big lens.
Sweet lens, no doubt, however, I would have preferred it wasn't tested with a $7K camera. 50 MP is the standard resolution, and I believe you shot uncompressed RAW, so zooming in on the eagle's eye for example isn't going to be representative based on the significantly higher resolution and detail than most of us watching this video will ever see. That said, it still looks like a great lens and just knowing that I can get that kind of detail if I ever win the lottery is pretty cool. I'm sure it will do a good job with my A73.
I have this lens for a couple of months now, but noticed that the keeper rate on dogs that run towards me is pretty low. It seems to back focus quite a lot with my A7III. With the Sony 135mm GM I don't have this problem... Would it be mainly the problem with the body that can't keep up with the speed of the lens at 500mm 6.7 or would it be more an issue with the lens?
I'm pretty disappointed with mine by now. My wife uses an A6700 with 70-350G and the pictures from that lens have more detail at 350mm than the tamron 150-500 at 500mm on the same A6700.
@@jeroenvdw yeah i own an A7RV and the 150-500 has noticeably less detail than any other lens I own. (including the Tamron 35-150 which is great) I thought I just sucked, but I just tested it on a tripod shooting at a bunch of stationary houseplants with off-camera flash, and detail get noticeably better at F/9 and even then the autofocus seems to be slightly inconsistent (just enough to ruin the sharpness) while the 70-350G nails it most of the time, even when shooting both lenses at 350mm on A6700. The A6700 with 70-350G at 350mm shows more detail than my A7RV with 150-500 at 500mm. It's just sad. I think of selling the 150-500 and maybe buying the 200-600, or 70-200 GM II with TC. I don't care if my pictures aren't perfectly sharp with the 70-200GMII+TC because I can still use the 70-200GMII without the TC
@gamebuster800 yeah I'm planning the same, already put my 150-500 for sale. Sony 200-600 isn't perfectly sharp either but it's way better than the Tamron. Would be great if Sony launched a mk2 of the 200-600 with improved sharpness
I just bought the sigma 60-600 for my a7iii and yeah..it is very heavy :( but I enjoy the workout! It’s also a very nice lens but dang people weren’t kidding about the weight. I’m taking it to the local zoo next weekend so we’ll see how much I still like it then haha.

That was taken just this last week in Wilmington.
Spend the extra money formative lens… you will recover the value when resale more than third parties lens…
Man i cant unsee the Tampon now, you said it once now i always see Tampon instead of Tamron xD
You’re such a city slicker Fro. 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Top, thanks! 👍🏼
great video... loved the sample pictures you just exploited the lens... i have the tamron trinity and want to have big zoom like this this is a little costly what do you say 100-400 sigma.. or this .. and can we expect low prices soon black friday u see :)
This or Tamrom 28-300mm?
Great photos! Did you use the Animal Eye AF or the Bird Eye AF (an option the a1 has) with the bald eagle?
Animal. They don’t have a specific bird.
lol your vids are great and entertaining.
"Looks at my one and two" "Sees string-bean #1 and string-bean #2" Walks away in shame and depression...
I'd call that a fidget-spinner ring.
22:00 like the gorilla with the shirt on!
I bought the Sony 200-600. I never regret not getting the “almost as good” lens.
Your 200 - 600 Sony is almost als good as a 600mm F4. Think about it.
thanks for information from timor leste
THUMBS UP!!!!!!!!!
LOL. Funny shit. Thanks for review also!
No need to apologize, Jared. 👍
is this lens fit on my Nikon D3100?
Just bought the sigma 100-400 and I feel like the IS is stronger, just from the looks of the handheld shake
I gave you the thumbs up but the "if you believe that" is... how the kids say, sus...
you do the duck sound very well
I have this lens for a couple of months now, but noticed that the keeper rate on dogs that run towards me is pretty low.
@gamebuster800 yeah I can imagine, this lens is unusable in crop mode which equals aps-c cameras
@@jeroenvdw yeah i own an A7RV and the 150-500 has noticeably less detail than any other lens I own. (including the Tamron 35-150 which is great)
I thought I just sucked, but I just tested it on a tripod shooting at a bunch of stationary houseplants with off-camera flash, and detail get noticeably better at F/9 and even then the autofocus seems to be slightly inconsistent (just enough to ruin the sharpness) while the 70-350G nails it most of the time, even when shooting both lenses at 350mm on A6700.
@@gamebuster800 and I also own the A7RV now that's how I noticed the lack of sharpness
I’m not first, I’m not last, but when I see a Jared Polin video, I click fast
Going to wait 8 hours, sounds about right, except you missed the part where the animal decided not to show up….
Shit... you just cost me about $1200 but the way less than I was gonna spend... lol
i think im ready to switch platforms.....looking into sony....
Do the chickens have large talons? Gosh!
This video is 60% review, 40% Jared self love
You must be new.
I purchased the 200-600 a few months ago for my a6100. Pretty happy with the results. I'll stick with native lenses. Good review though Jared!!
Flamicos, and other monkeys.
Very informative
At 2:25 sorry but I need Atleast that 500mm lens to see what you were trying to show me..
You're fun!
