The MUST HAVE Sony LENS for Wildlife & Sports Photography | Sony 200-600mm f5.6-6.3 Review
I had the chance to take the Sony 200-600mm f5.6-6.32 out into the Real World to shoot at the zoo as well as a basebaell game. The reason this is a must have lens for wildlife and sports photographers is you will be hard pressed to find another lens that matches it's speed and quality. The one thing that's important to point out is the lens goes to f6.3 at 301mm. The Nikon 200-500 is a 5.6 all the way through. I would have hoping this lens would go to 6.3 only in the last 100mm.

The FroKnowsPhoto team strikes again. I have no intention on buying this lens, but you can see the hard work that goes into producing these beautiful videos. Too many RUclipsrs love to release half-a** videos the moment the lens is announced, but I'd happily wait 3 weeks to see a review from the Fro-Team. Thank you so much for your hard work, and for giving us high quality, informative videos to enjoy and learn from.

Very nice review. I've been going to Yellowstone since 1991. I'm clearly in the minority but, I wouldn't shoot a prime lens (such as a f.4 600mm) if somebody gave me one. My reasons are as follows: 1) You'll lose about 40% of your shots trying to get out of the vehicle to set up a tripod; 2) You'll lose another 40% of your shots when you're at an "animal jam" and have to move your tripod to a decent spot at a decent angle that another photographer hasn't already claimed; 3) You'll lose another 5-10% of your shots when the animal moves closer and you need to zoom in. While 4.65 pounds can get a little heavy after a long day, for a man, especially anyone who works out on a regular basis, going hand-held with a zoom lens provides significant advantages. This zoom appears to be very high quality. Thanks for the video. I've already ordered mine.

    1. How does it compare to 100-400 with 1.4 teleconverter?
    2. Can you use the 200-600 with 1.4 and 2x teleconverter?
    3. Did you try the 200-600 with crop sensor like a6500 or a6400?

waipahutube you can use the lens with adapters. Check out Gordon Laing and camera labs reviews. What I’d have like to see on the background blur test at the baseball was how the F4 lens background blur looked at 6.3 cf the zoom lens at the same apature.

I just bought one of these lens for astrophotography. I am used to using a 10" Meade telescope but have had some very nice results with the Sony 70-300 lens on my A7RIII - love those megapixels... Anxious to get it here and get to the dark desert. My tripod is a nice wooden tripod that came with a telescope that I got for Christmas in 1959 when I was 10 years old. Yes, I know that is pretty old stuff but I have read good things about wooden tripods. I have the iOptron Star Tracker mounted on it and I get sharp, no trail, stars at 30S at 300mm. I am quite impressed with the little star tracker. I also have bigger metal tripods but thought I would go light - besides, as much as I love my 10" scope it is getting pretty hard for me to deal with it. Thanks for your video. I like your energy and I don't think I made a mistake buying this lens.

Yes, the Sony 200-600mm 5.6-6.3 is a fantastic lens. Is the 600mm 4.0 GM overpriced? I don't think so, it is more or less playing in the same league as the Nikon or Canon versions. And for sharpness reasons I would not spend additional 12000 USD on a Sony 600mm 4.0. I think if you do this then it is for the additional 5% or 10% you can get on Bokeh and or resolution and also handling / quality. Some people also buy these lenses just to show off (yes, it is like this). I don't care actually, I use the Sony 200-600mm 5.6-6.3 on a Sony A7R4 and this combo really rocks. In low light situations I may use the Sony A9 for cranking up the ISO. I think this is an excellent versatile and powerful lens at a reasonable price. Well done, Sony.

  • @dankuettel5063
    @dankuettel5063 5 лет назад +3

5.6-6.3 wouldn't bother me, just set the aperture to 6.3 or where its sharpest and you don't have to worry about it changing while zooming in and out.

    Jared,
Thanks for your excellent reviews! They are enjoyable as well as informative,
A minor gripe: I wish that the 200-600mm lens had a tripod mount that was grooved for an Arca Compatible clamp. I use Arca clamps on all of my tripods and monopods and have replaced the foot of my Sony 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lens with an after market tripod ring that incorporates Arca grooves. which works great. I like it better than a separate plate on a non-grooved foot!
I will probably be using this on my A6500 or A6400 cameras/ Wow! A 300-900mm f/5.6-6.3 lens with OSS in both the lens and the camera if used on the A6500!
Combine this with my 70-200mm on the A6400 and I would have the effective focal range of 105-900mm covered with no gaps and with OSS (either lens or body) all the way!

I climbed a butte and was setting up my camera with this lens. Lens hood on and camera off. Some random person came up and asked me if there was a reason my camera was pointing at him. Like do you really think I climbed all the way up here to take photos of some dweeb smoking pot? Mind you there was an entire mountain range I went up there to shoot and I wasn’t even looking through the camera at this point. I was still bending over going through my bag and I was holding onto my monopod. This lens definitely makes people look at you. That’s my only complaint about this lens lol.

Great review! I would go for the SONY 200 600mm because of its internal zooming and quality. If I were SPORT professional photographer I would go 600mm f4. And Jared, looks like you are leaving NIKON. are you?

Hi Jared! Would you recommend this 200-600mm for aviation photography? By the way, what's that little black box attached to your camera's hot shoe?

I hope you check older reviews. I have this lens with A7III and find lots of soft shots and also their was lots of buzz it didn't work with A7r4. You talk about modes you were in

the A9 makes everything easier... ;)
I use a Sigma 60-600 on Sony A7R3, the result is very correct for this kind of zoom.
I would like to know if the Sony 200-600 is sharper than the Bigma on an A7R4 (61 Mpx) before buying ... and also which TC 1,4x and 2x to choose to avoid to degrade too much the quality ?

Compared to Canon, I'm finding the Sonys look really vibrant, but a bit... sharp, grainy, harsh. But color is impressive.

Hello, Do you think that with this lens we can take pictures of correct sports at night ... in a properly lit stadium, I want to associate it with an a7iii or an a7riii.? Thank you

Amazing lens and review! The fixed 600mm F4 is so much not worth such a huge extra plus losing so much versatility, as the difference isn't that huge imo in the bokeh. Honnestly at such ridiculous price it should had been F2.8 and THEN it would had been noticeable enough to explain the price difference. However the Sigma isn't 2 pouds more than the Sony anywhere I look on Google or the official specs, even the Non-Emount version.

Trying it on other bodies is important. Will it work well enough on an A7R2?

I always want to know, why is a fixed focus lens so much more expensive than a zoom lens? Its does not have more glass or even bigger glass to make up the difference. It is less complicated to design and manufacture. I don't understand.

For a $11k difference, I’ll just add boca in post. I called the f stop 300’ish @ 6.3. Could it be better? Probably, but then we’d see the price sky rocket for something that editors are capable of reproducing. God I would love to have this glass, but even at this great price for a 200-600 I sadly can’t afford it. 😢😪

    Hi Jared!
I'm a hobby photographer, not a pro. I'm thinking of buying a Telephoto, for my Nikon Z6. The Nikon Z 100-400 seems expensive to me, for the times I can use it, and I wanted to ask you about the Nikon 200-500 and the Sony 200-600 options with the MEGADAP ETZ11 adapter. Do you think that this Sony option can work well? or is it superior to the Nikon option?
What is the attachment, what do you use on the camera, in this video? .. what is it for?
Thank you for your time, and I will be waiting for your comment. Juan
