    When Tamron announced the 35-150mm f2-2.8 Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras I was intregioued. It wasn't until I took it out into the Real World that I realized this range is pure insanity. It has the ability to replace so many different lenses if needed. For me, it will be the ONE lens I take on vacation or on trips, if I don't want to take 3 or 4 lenses.

      I already have one for Nikon F mount and am using it a lot and enjoying it. It's great for street photography. Some people critique it as it's not "wide enough" at the wide end, but it was designed to be a complement to the TAMRON 17-35 f2.8-4. Also, the SONY version is f2-2.8 while Nikon and Canon DSLR versions are f2.8-4.

    I did exactly what you asked. I replaced almost all of my primes and zooms with this Tamron. I sold my old 70-200 GM, my 35 f1.8, my Sigma 85 f1.4 - all for this one Tamron lens and I did not regret it yet. I have a 14mm for Astro/Landscape and a 200-600 for sports and wildlife. With the Tamron in the kit it's my perfect holy trinity. Did some portrait shoots with the 35-150 as well and I didn't disappointed. 10/10 recommendation

    @armandot9137 2 года назад +8

    Thank you for your review. I recently purchased this lens and in general I am very pleased with it. I noticed a big flaw when used for sports: AF-C tracking loses the subject when zoom racking. Basically you cannot follow a subject around and zoom rack at the same time for fast paced shooting, you will be missing most shots. Considering that you do a lot of reviews for this sort of camera and lens applications it would really help if you can observe lenses performance in this regard. It could also put pressure on manufacturers to address the issue. Until such issue is not addressed a suggest using this lens in action shooting as a semi-fixed prime: adjust your zoom prior to follow action around, change it only when you pause tracking.

    • @rekinxxxl
      @rekinxxxl Год назад

      Damn, thats what I was wondering about. I used to have a lens that did that and it was annoying to use because I liked to change zoom mid tracking. Thanks for information. I think its due to the fact that the lens isn't parfocal so it throws the focus off.

    Honestly, if they did this for Canon, I would strongly consider this. I love my RF 28-70 f/2 and RF 70-200 2.8, but it can be really frustrating in the studio having them divided at 70mm. But the RF 24-105 was TERRIBLE on the R5 - crazy crazy soft, just not a good look to the images at all. To have one lens that covers this focal range and the fact that 2.8 (and 2.0) lenses are generally WAY way higher quality than 4.0 lenses, it could definitely be a compromise in the studio… IF there was a Canon option. 😑

    A bit late to the party, but I recently purchased this lens. I shoot video of dance concerts and the 35-150 is the perfect lens for working in the three venues I regularly work in. The weight of the lens put me off a bit at first, but after I purchased a tripod collar for it, no problems. I'm surprised Tamron did not include a collar. Cost cutting, I guess. Image quality is easily equal to the Sony GM 70-200 f2.8, which I also own.

The cure is to decide on a lens for a period of time ( I usually get access to the whole show) and work from that, but this practical thing of 35-150 is such a keeper.

      @Rothardeo Год назад +2

      hi, i'm not Jared Polin but i do own that lense :)
      I have mounted it on my a7 IV and its sharp from edg to edge.
      The only thing that isn't perfect with this lens, is the distortion and the vignetting.
      At 35mm it has a strong barrel distortion and havy vignetting, both get better the more you zoom in.
      But i wouldn't worry about that, you can correct those things but the value of not needing to switch between 24-70 and 70-200 or buy two Camaras is way bigger

    • @jenniferwhitetimelessmomen2015
      @jenniferwhitetimelessmomen2015 Год назад +1

      @@Rothardeo Thanks for the reply. The distortion sounds concerning for portrait photography. I'm needing a lens that works good for big group photos. I have one lens where I have to make sure there's a lot of extra space on the sides so the people on the ends aren't distorted since that's not something you can really fix on people so trying to find the best zoom for that. I'm used to running around with 2 camera's with different lenses for my fine art, but when it comes to family shoots, I like to find one lens that works well.

      @@PatrickSchraner I would go so far to call it the best lens I ever bought. And I also have an RF 85 f1.2 DS (which is considered th best lens according to reviews) and the RF 70-200 f2.8.
      But the „3-4 primes in one“ package is just such a versatile lens it always on for nearly all shootings. The crazy thing is the image quality also beats Al previous primes I had so it really is multiple primes.
      It’s nice that there is at least something similar now available with the tamron. From an experience point I would always choose flexibility of a zoom now especially if the downsides in speed is only so small the most never notice.

    Awesome review and a great lens worth investing in, in my opinion.
    One thing that wasn't considered or tried was the super 35mm mode on most Alpha cameras.
    I use mine all the time on my A7r iii and love it. Not only it gives me a smaller 20MP file, enough for almost anything but it effectively replaces 2 lenses at the push of a button (I have mine set to C3)
    In this case you get a 55-200 F2-2.8 which is even better range than a 70-200 f2.8.
    To me this lens is a game changer and Ian definitely buying one. I don't do sports so I don't need more zoom, but the subject separation at 200mm should be pretty awesome.
    I can't wait. This could replace my 24-70 F2.8 G Master... And my 55mm 1.8 zeiss

    Why Tamron designs it as 35-150 instead of 28-135?
    My opinion is - Tamron likely wants to build a whole new set of Big 3 lens with broader full range coverage .
    It's just my guess, Tamron may have a new lens ex. 16-35 or 14-35 with 82mm filter in the near future.
    Don't forget Tamron has launched the 150-500mm earlier.
    35-150 and 150-500 are both with 82mm filter size, if Tamron can add a new lens like 16-35 with 82 mm then it will form a new Big 3 to cover from 16mm to 500mm with same 82mm filter.
    (We already know Sony 's16 -35GM is a lens with 82 mm filter, but it's expensive , so likely Tamron can design a similar cheaper and lighter product )
    However, you can still buy a Sony 1635GM with Tamron 35-150 and 150-500 to form a personal big 3 set.

    So I just got this lens and first impression are not positive for street photographers who deal with moving subjects. If I hold the shutter and zoom in and out the FPS changes. I've tried at a flat aperture of 2.8 from 35-150, doesn't fix it. Also, if i'm tracking a subject and zoom in/out the focus does NOT lock on. If I keep the focal length constant, the focus locks on amazing. But for what I do I may go from 35 to 150. I'm going to continue to test it more before giving up. Maybe it's the focus mode? Maybe burst instead of holding shutter down? Any advice or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
