This pairs really well with the Sony 16-35 or the Tamron 17-27 f/2.8 lenses. So you really just need like a Sigma 150-600 and you will have a lens for basically every situation.....and you can mix in some primes if you want more speed (1.4 or 1.8's)

It takes gorgeous photos and the preset, programmable capabilities only make it more appealing.
I own this lens for a few weeks now and have brought it to work (2 Wedding Photoshoots and 1 Wedding Video). I have to say this is the best lens I have ordered from Tamron so far. The weight I can live with as I was so used to carrying around Canon 5D and 70-200. So with the A7 series camera and this lens, it doesn't feel much at all. The only problem I have encountered so far (also happens with the 28-75G2 ) is it cannot lock AF sometimes, even in a stationary subject. it happens so randomly that I cannot find a pattern of the cause. All I did is I took a video and send to Tamron so they can come up with an idea. Other than this problem I think it is a perfect lens for work, and a must bring lens for overseas.
I'm very pleased with this lens for event photography. It does cover the range I use the most. It has replaced the 24-105 because it was only good for me during bright daylight events. The AF felt similar to the old 70-200 GM on the A1. At one event I had to carry the Tamron and the old GM and that convinced me to get the GM II (still waiting for that lens). The transition zone for switching camera/lens during an event is what made this combo so nice for my work. It also makes a third camera/lens combo a light carry with a 20 G or 24 GM.
Nice to see you in my backyard! I am still waiting for my 35-150. Just today I bought a 50mm 2.5 G so I can start using my (new) A7RIIIa while waiting for Tamron to get these lenses in Europe. For my studio pictures of models I find this lens so good, it made me switch from Canon. In studio I rarely use anything wider than 35, never more than 135mm so a very sharp wide aperture lens nails it.
I am debating between this lens and the Sony 24-105mm any opinion on which you think is better? I like the Sony 24mm for width but think the 2-2.8f would be nice with the Tamron....
Hmm if you shoot a lot in low light, the Tamron will be better. If you’re keen on bringing a separate wider prime lens (24GM or the small 24G), go for the Tamron ! Otherwise, the 24-105mm is great for day time stuff! (And lighter compared to this too!)

I love it so far. Between the 16-35GM, the 28-75 Tamron and the 70-200G, I actually rarely used the 28-75. most of what I shoot is between 16 and 35, and on the longer end past 100mm. The 28-75 is a fantastic lens, especially for the price, and I imagine the new version is even better, so don't get me wrong, it is a great lens. But this one replaces two lenses and is faster all the way to 85mm, and it hasn't left the A7III since it arrived from B&H.
Rented this for recent two week road trip visiting national parks, love the flexibility it gave me, but since I was primarily shooting landscapes around f/8 it was overkill for what i needed and was entirely too heavy. I came home and bought the 20-70mm f4 for my next trip.

Great video Jason. I bought the 28-75G2 to complete my trinity (17-28, 28-75 and 70-180) I am totally happy with what I have. I am going back to wedding photography which I have not done in a while. I am thinking of getting the 20-40 and a 35-150 for a two-lens solution and a replacement for my triple lens set up.
I just got my lens today, and so far, I love it. While using a Sony A7iii, I compared it to the excellent Tamron 28-75 and the image quality was indistinguishable between the two at 35, 50, and 75MM. I'm looking forward to getting this lens out and shooting some portraits soon. And thanks for the great review!
I see this comment was a year ago. I am upgrading from my old Nikon to a Sony a7iii soon. When I say I’m torn it’s an understatement. My simple question is, any regrets?? I use a 24-120mm f4 daily then use a 35mm 1.8 most of the time. So I’m thinking do I want one lens that could be “Jack of all trades, master of none?” Or get two lenses say another 35mm and the 24-105 f4. So I ask again, any regrets?
Thanks Jason and Vivian for this informative review. I know that I couldn't get past the weight of this lens no matter how good it is! It looked massive when Viv was using it.
It was all perfect until 8:04... then the whole thing collapsed. 😂 Here's your first lesson, and it will be the most useful one for your next visit when you want to blend in : "pa-ree". This is how the city's name must be pronounced. As, for 99% of cases, in French final letters are mute (and mostly the results of etymology and evolution). And glad you did not shoot only the Tour Eiffel ("toor ay-fell") ! 😉 From a guy who's been a guide in and around this tower for three years, I must be objective and say : it's often too much. This was an interesting review, and your test was user-oriented. That proves useful, as specifications do not make for the whole experience. Thanks !
Hit the gym if you think this lens is heavy!! lol. I just placed an order for this lens, it should be arriving today, so excited to get it in my hands! I have a shoot this morning and kinda bummed it won't get here till later today. Oh well, I'm working Lucidity Festival in Santa Barbara next weekend, so I'll get test it out then.
Fuck that sunset shot of the Eiffel in background the 16th century Le Dome in the right side of foreground WOW what a shot. Impressive talk about composition. And you know that’s a once in a life time shot too.
For traveling and especially for Europe, you do need wider mm. 35mm is for sure a little tight. But if you look back in history the standard zoom was 35-70/2.8. So from that perspective, 35 isn't so bad
Hi there! Thanks for this video (and all the stuff on your channel generally)! I'm just starting with photography and got myself an A6600 with a kit lens (18-135mm, F3.5-5.6) and the Sigma 16mm f1.4. I'd like a zoom lens with a wider aperture than my 18-135mm and I'm going in circle comparing the Tamron 35-150mm and the Tamron 70-180 F2.8... One thing I'd like to be able to do is take pictures of my kid playing basketball. The sports halls are usually not well lit and my kit lens is just not fast enough (plus its reach is a little short). Looks like the 35-150 quickly switches to an aperture of 2.8 when zooming in, so I'm kind of thinking that the 70-180 isn't loosing out in this respect... What do you think? Plus my budget is limited (I'm getting into photography as a life crisis hobby ;), not gonna earn income with it), and the few ND filters I own fit a 67mm lens... So, I'm thinking maybe the Tamron 70-180mm now and maybe later on sell my kit lens and replace with with a Tamron 28-75mm. What do you think?
If a 24-70mm 2.8 and a 70-200mm 2.8 had a baby this is what it would look like, I think I'll go with this 35-150mm 2/2.8 and the Sony 16-55mm 2.8 I think they'll make a great combo
i sold it 6 days later because of its bulky size and weight, replaced to tamron 28-75, 70-180 f2.8, and now this is my go-to combination. no regrets! spec is important but size and weight matters a lot
Great review! Did you notice any air suction in your copy while zooming in and out? My copy does make a whooshing sound, and I am investigating if I should return it or not, great IQ and so… Maybe the suction is due to the tight bayonet? Thanks 🙏
From a sigma 24-70 art owner point of view, would you consider the purchase of the tamron 70-180 to complete the standard focals or would you go for the tam 35-150 instead? The choise has to be seen from the perspective of a travel photographer in love with enviromental portraits and street/wild shooting.
thanks for the review. I keep looking at reviews for this lens and so far everyone is recommending this lens. as far as weight.... I don't mind. I shoot with the Sigma 150mm with a field monitor attached and I don't notice the weight. I think I'm going to buy this lens.
How does it compare to the Sony 85mm 1.8 and the 35mm 1.8? These two are my go to lenses but I’m tempted to get rid of them and buying the tamron but not sure yet until I see it’s worth it.
I just binged ALL of your videos :) You have helped me get onboarded with my A7cii! You're the only person I've seen use a tripod with this lens! Did you have any concerns with the 35-150 weight when using a tripod? They don't make a lens collar mount and I want to use it primarily to film myself. Thank you!
it would have been great to see this lens and review before I got my 24-105 F4, but the 35 just isn't quite wide enough to run as my all around lens once I get into tight spaces and would have forced me to get a wide-zoom lens to fill out the range :S
@@IanHobday maybe, but I heavily prefer to stick with Sony lenses unless I get a good enough reason to go to a 3rd party like I have considered for the 20mm Samyang that has Astro features and still ranks very highly for sharpness. an f1.8 zoom would be expensive no matter the brand and frankly I doubt many people would have a use for it. sounds like a specialist professional lens where changing lens simply isn't an option. for all around lenses I would very likely still have gotten the one I did because in good light f4 is plenty and if I want bokeh then I'll get a prime like I did Sony's 90mm f2.8 macro.
@@rboydphotography No one expected a 35-150/2-2.8 either yet here we are. Personally the only zoom I own is the Sigma 100-400 DG DN. Wider than 100 I have the Sony 20/1.8, 35/1.8, 55/1.8, and 85/1.8. Also have the Laowa 85/5.6 2x Macro and their 105/2 STF. I suspect I will next be adding the upcoming Samyang 135/1.8 and selling the 100-400 to buy the 150-600 DG DN. The excellent 3rd party lens selection on E mount is one of the main reasons I bought into Sony mirrorless instead of staying with Nikon or going back to Canon.
@@IanHobday they have done great by opening up to 3rd party manufacturers that's for sure. to a certain extent I think people expected the 2.8, but not that it would also reach f2, perhaps not the specific range but something similar isn't unheard of. the issue with a 1.8 zoom is just the amount of glass and how big or heavy the final product could be, since f1.8 is encroaching on 'prime territory' 😂 there might be a big shock if that came in the next 2 years. plus it would suck a bit if say it came out as a sony standard lens, but not as a G or GM equivalent. I'm sort of waiting for a Sony GM Macro lens of any length to pair with my 90mm f2.8 Macro G for paid work, if the 90mm wasn't a G I probably wouldn't have gotten it. how are the sony 20mm and 85mm treating you? which specific lens option did you get, standard range or GM? also what's the 105 stf like, that's at the end of my zoom range but getting from f4 to f2 must unlock some possibilities with lighting. 150-600 sounds like a plan but I don't have much use for that range myself and would likely only ever sit at 600mm so would be wasted on me 👍
@@rboydphotography I think a 17-35/2 from Tamron is a real possibility, or even a 17-35/1.8-2.0. Tamron clearly wants to make interesting, disruptive glass and such a lens would do exactly that. Even the rumored 20-50/2 would be very cool. The only G prime I have is the 20/1.8. The 35 and 85 are the standard Sony 1.8 primes and the 55 is the Zeiss 1.8. The GM lenses are incredible but I'm no pro and those lenses are way out of my price range. I love all the Sony primes I have and think the value is great for the price. The 55 was a bit overpriced IMO but it's still a very nice bit of glass. The Laowa STF lens is very interesting but I don't use it all that much. I bought it on sale at B&H last year for a pretty low price and may end up selling it. The Samyang 135/1.8 with AF I would likely use more and the STF could partially fund that. For the 150-600, sure, I will mostly use it at 400-600. There are no affordable primes on E mount in that range and the 150-600 is an amazing lens at an incredible price. I like the Sony 200-600 as well but the close focus breathing problems kill it for me. I hope Sony will bring out a v2 of this lens that doesn't have this problem.
I shoot real estate on an A6400 and i love my Tamron 11-20. It’s also great for landscape. The only downside is no lens stabilization since the 6400 doesn’t have ibis. But for work I’m using a tripod so that doesn’t matter
The problem I see with this is with my A7III, I have to use a gimbal. This means the pop out zooming function with this lens would require too much rebalancing. I'm pretty frustrated that I can't get an OSS zoom lens with at least a 24 to 85 range. I don't know why Sony doesn't include it in their GM series. I would happily pay more for this feature to be added!
Personal preference I know but given I almost never manually focus I really wish the front ring was the zoom ring rather the back one, this would make it much more balanced in the hand plus more stable as your hand it further forward.
35 to 150 range is awesome but price and weight? I would like to see f4 version of this lens with much lower price tag and weight to complement my sony 16-35 f4
I purchased the 150 to 500, I love it. So I think I'll get this as well. Three lenses to rule them all! Muah ha ha ha! My wide angle is the sony 20mm f1.8
This lens will work great for about 80+% of my photography. I also have the sigma 14-35 2.8 and the Sony 24-105 f4. This Tamron lens should round out my photography very nicely and will become my main lens on events.
@@mullinsmediaLLC I know right, lol. Me and my forgetfulness. Doesn’t Sony have the 16-35? That’s supposed to be a great lens to and ideal On the zoom range.
(Do You know what exactly in the comparison will be determinating for You ? In order of importance. ) I opted for the G 24-105mm oss f4 for when changing between my (very) open primes will be a hinderence (only in some for me rare type of (seldom) reportage-photography, and for rare videos. And it's light. And has extra stabilization (video). If the Tamron was 24-105 (not 135 or 150) at f 2 ; I'd switch even if no stabization. That's just my situation. (This excellent 35-150 results, for me seems makes a lot of sens for 50% of (instead of) 70-200 users (witch I'm not).
I just received this 35-150 and post my 24-105 G for sale. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that auto focus on sony is a bit faster. Sharpness is good on both and off course Tamron with its 2-2.8 is much more suitable for variety of situations. I got lucky and pre-ordered this lense for $1640 so I am a winner 🏆 on the price but I was ready to pay $1900 anyway for it. It worth it's asking price.
I think I'll be pulling the trigger on this lens, since I have a 14mmGM and a 55mm Zeiss for prime choices. I can spare 50mm more of telephoto if I just get this one glass as an all-in-one, instead of a 70-200mm and a 24-70mm to pair with stabilized my a7iii. Thanks, Jason.
I prefer 24-105, or 24-135, or 24-150, f/2.8 or faster. f/2 is perfect. 35mm is kinda tight to my preference. I also have 14mm GM. So 14mm GM and 35-150 Tamron could be perfect for me while waiting for 24-150 f/2 😊. I travel so all-in-one lens is preferable. I do not care the size and weight. Hope any lens manufacturers could introduce my preferred lens soon.
Hahaha, I totally sold the 28-75mm because I find it really boring. I've been considering picking up this one eventually. I still love the 17-28mm, though!
I just have a thing in mind that 35 is not that wide enough. I have 14-24 and I confused betweenn Sigma 24-70 and This 35-150 Tamron. Is the 24-35 range that Difficult to Compansate??? I shoot Interiors, Astro and Landscape. For Videos short Film and Documentry...
I have it and is amazing the quality and range in one lens that sony only give pairing two, about the weight well my point of view is that weight way less than have to carry two lens to cover what this lens can do. 🤷♂️
Hey Jason, will the new breathing compensation be made compatible with other Lenses besides Sony native ones? Like the Sigma Art series or the Tamron ones?
the weight of this thing is ripping my heart out! i am a small dude & I get tired arms as it is with the 28-75 after a day of shooting! i want so badly to replace the 28-75 & the 70-180 w/ this lens, but part of me thinks i would regret it after the first full day of shooting! xD
This is what I was even thinking. Sold my sigma 24mm 1.4 Art before ordering this lens. I might buy the new sigma 24mm contemporary lens soon as well. The new lens is cheaper.
Anyone with this lens have an issue where after focusing the little green focus confirmation dot at the bottom left of the screen just keeps on blinking and you're not able to focus again? Like its hunting except it isn't. Keeps happening to me on the A7III, and I have to wait 10-15 seconds for it to go away or switch to MF then switch back before i'm able to focus again.
Because Canon / Nikon come to FF mirrorless 6-7 years late. Also, Sony has quite a lot Tamron shares. Canon / Nikon DSLR versions were 35-150 f2.8-4.0?

Great video Jason. I bought the 28-75G2 to complete my trinity (17-28, 28-75 and 70-180) I am totally happy with what I have. I am going back to wedding photography which I have not done in a while. I am thinking of getting the 20-40 and a 35-150 for a two-lens solution and a replacement for my triple lens set up.
Why Can't I find one of these to buy right now?? :(
I’m ready to sell several lenses to get this one, not sure when it’s actually gonna be available 🤔
So I’m thinking do I want one lens that could be “Jack of all trades, master of none?”
Or get two lenses say another 35mm and the 24-105 f4. So I ask again, any regrets?
I’ve watched so many of your videos and just found out that I wasn’t subscribed! Solved that! Great video as always 👍🏻
Haha finally!! Welcome to the club 😎
Thanks Jason and Vivian for this informative review. I know that I couldn't get past the weight of this lens no matter how good it is! It looked massive when Viv was using it.
She loved shooting with it esp at the tele range! but she said if she had a choice, she would prefer the Zeiss Batis 135mm overall.
@@JasonVong I understand what she means! Happy, healthy New Year to you both!!
It was all perfect until 8:04... then the whole thing collapsed. 😂
Here's your first lesson, and it will be the most useful one for your next visit when you want to blend in : "pa-ree".
Thanks !
Thanks for the review dude. It’s preordered but haven’t got it yet so I can get over the weight just fine! Gimme dat range!
Enjoy it!!
Hey Jason, My Tamron 35-150 didn't come with the utility cable. Should it have? Where can I get one?
Hit the gym if you think this lens is heavy!! lol. I just placed an order for this lens, it should be arriving today, so excited to get it in my hands! I have a shoot this morning and kinda bummed it won't get here till later today. Oh well, I'm working Lucidity Festival in Santa Barbara next weekend, so I'll get test it out then.
Fuck that sunset shot of the Eiffel in background the 16th century Le Dome in the right side of foreground WOW what a shot. Impressive talk about composition. And you know that’s a once in a life time shot too.
Very interesting lens from Tamron! The focal range is so useful but oh boy is it a heavy lens!great review Jason!
thanks man! :)
What do you think?
thank you for all your videos this year. God bless
Thanks for watching! Happy new year!
If a 24-70mm 2.8 and a 70-200mm 2.8 had a baby this is what it would look like, I think I'll go with this 35-150mm 2/2.8 and the Sony 16-55mm 2.8 I think they'll make a great combo
Think I will buy this lens and the 16-35 2.8 GM
Then I have 16-150 complete range
Been waiting for this review from you! Amazing as always!
thanks Drew!
i sold it 6 days later because of its bulky size and weight, replaced to tamron 28-75, 70-180 f2.8, and now this is my go-to combination. no regrets! spec is important but size and weight matters a lot
Yeah so true. It’s a weird lens. Not wide enough, not zoomed in enough, but very bulky and heavy.
Great review!
Did you notice any air suction in your copy while zooming in and out?
My copy does make a whooshing sound, and I am investigating if I should return it or not, great IQ and so…
Maybe the suction is due to the tight bayonet?
Thanks 🙏
fantastic review 🔥 any idea if gyro data is available in catalyst browse with this lens?
From a sigma 24-70 art owner point of view, would you consider the purchase of the tamron 70-180 to complete the standard focals or would you go for the tam 35-150 instead? The choise has to be seen from the perspective of a travel photographer in love with enviromental portraits and street/wild shooting.
Yes
thanks for the review. I keep looking at reviews for this lens and so far everyone is recommending this lens. as far as weight.... I don't mind. I shoot with the Sigma 150mm with a field monitor attached and I don't notice the weight. I think I'm going to buy this lens.
sorry I stopped you in line at Disney before the Pinocchio ride broke down :( . it was cool meeting you though!
Was this back in Anaheim? No worries! I appreciate ya saying hi! :)
@@JasonVong yeah and I spilled my dole whip on your shoes. forgive me!
How does it compare to the Sony 85mm 1.8 and the 35mm 1.8? These two are my go to lenses but I’m tempted to get rid of them and buying the tamron but not sure yet until I see it’s worth it.
I'd rather go with the two separate primes over carrying this one lens tbh.
Yeah this is my combo too
Would it be a good option for a 70-200mm f2.8 equivalent on APSC?
I just binged ALL of your videos :) You have helped me get onboarded with my A7cii! You're the only person I've seen use a tripod with this lens! Did you have any concerns with the 35-150 weight when using a tripod? They don't make a lens collar mount and I want to use it primarily to film myself. Thank you!
it would have been great to see this lens and review before I got my 24-105 F4, but the 35 just isn't quite wide enough to run as my all around lens once I get into tight spaces and would have forced me to get a wide-zoom lens to fill out the range :S
I'm guessing we will later see a 17-35 f1.8 or f1.8-2 lens from Tamron...
How does this lens with the sony a74 handle photographing dogs in action?
Hi please advise is it necessary to buy sony 50mm f1.8 if I have Tamron 35-150 for my sony alpha7 IV
We need the tamron 11-20 for apsc and also the Sigma 18-50m! Please review these lenses
I shoot real estate on an A6400 and i love my Tamron 11-20. It’s also great for landscape. The only downside is no lens stabilization since the 6400 doesn’t have ibis. But for work I’m using a tripod so that doesn’t matter
Thanks JV, you sealed the deal. I am going to pass on this for now and stick with my 28-75 and a couple of primes.
💪💪💪
The problem I see with this is with my A7III, I have to use a gimbal. This means the pop out zooming function with this lens would require too much rebalancing. I'm pretty frustrated that I can't get an OSS zoom lens with at least a 24 to 85 range. I don't know why Sony doesn't include it in their GM series. I would happily pay more for this feature to be added!
Do you know if I can balance it on a DJI RSC2?
@@foxyvisionsvideographer There is the 24-105 with OSS, but that's a F4
@@MorrisGruiters Well, is it possible to balance it out was my question, but thanks cool bike videos you do there!
I prob watched all the reviews of this lens. Really looking forward to getting it.
Am in that phase now after ordering. How’s the lens so far ?
Great review as always!
thanks Paul!
Personal preference I know but given I almost never manually focus I really wish the front ring was the zoom ring rather the back one, this would make it much more balanced in the hand plus more stable as your hand it further forward.
You can change the functions of the rings in the tamron lens software
@@Quadraspaz surely not that though, it would be a physical mechanical zoom ring wouldn't it?
Would you be able to use this exact set up on the RSC2 (pay load wise) ?
35 to 150 range is awesome but price and weight? I would like to see f4 version of this lens with much lower price tag and weight to complement my sony 16-35 f4
Great lens, the F2.8-4 Canon version is amazing as well. Bokeh is creamy once you start zooming.
hello, someone has already tested the two objecitfs: canon RF 28-70F2 and the 35-150 F2-2/8 in wedding? what is your preference?
I purchased the 150 to 500, I love it. So I think I'll get this as well. Three lenses to rule them all! Muah ha ha ha! My wide angle is the sony 20mm f1.8
I’m strongly considering replacing my 24-105 with this lens, primarily for landscape.
Off topic, but I see you got the blue Zeiss Peak Design anchors. Nice!
Nice review! Thanks a lot for video! Interesting, when Tamron starts producing such lenses for other systems? I'm waiting for)
Could I balance this lens with the a7S3 on an DJI RSC2?
Can you still set your aperture to 2.8 if you're at higher-ups focal length like 150?
yes
This lens will work great for about 80+% of my photography. I also have the sigma 14-35 2.8 and the Sony 24-105 f4. This Tamron lens should round out my photography very nicely and will become my main lens on events.
sigma 14-35 2.8 is the perfect combo for this!
Wait...you mean 14-24? lol
@@mullinsmediaLLC yes that’s it. Sorry I brain farted on that. Yes it’s the sigma 14-24.

The lens flair that will challenge Michael Bay
🤣🤣🤣
JJ Abrams just laughs still
Jason...everytime I watch your videos, i tell myself..."We would definitely be best friends" XD
Can we see this compared to the 24-105 F4?
(Do You know what exactly in the comparison will be determinating for You ?
In order of importance. )
I opted for the G 24-105mm oss f4 for when changing between my (very) open primes will be a hinderence (only in some for me rare type of (seldom) reportage-photography, and for rare videos.
Thanks Jason for a great review. May I know what's the closest focusing distance at around 80-85mm?
Where can I buy this lens? I can't find it in stock anywhere.
Put it on a R camera..then you have 35-225mm :) Perfect!
For Videos short Film and Documentry...
this is a perfect event photo lens, as a music photographer this would be great
I have it and is amazing the quality and range in one lens that sony only give pairing two, about the weight well my point of view is that weight way less than have to carry two lens to cover what this lens can do. 🤷♂️
Hey Jason, will the new breathing compensation be made compatible with other Lenses besides Sony native ones? Like the Sigma Art series or the Tamron ones?
I doubt it since the metadata to have the compensation will be through Sony’s camera firmware, not through the lenses’ metadata. If that makes sense
Thanks Jason, I want that piece of glass sooo bad!

Why this lens doesn't exist on RF lens (Canon) ? :(
Sony has a vested interest in Tamron.
Jose is right. Then Tamron produced a Canon version a few years ago. No the exact same quality as this one though, but still worth considering.
Because Canon / Nikon come to FF mirrorless 6-7 years late. Also, Sony has quite a lot Tamron shares. Canon / Nikon DSLR versions were 35-150 f2.8-4.0?
Might have missed this but Don’t you lose the high FPS by using this lens on something like the A1
I thougjt I bought Sony for lighter gears. But this one is tempting. Thanks for the video.
Agreed. They shouldve made this like 24mm and maybe cut it down to 105mm
So the Sigma 18-50 will work on Full frame body?
Gotta put the camera in APS-C mode but yep it works!
