This lens is pretty much MADE for events/wedding photography. Even the bad flaring would be useful. Just have an ultrawide zoom on another body and you're set. Previously you would need 15-30mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm.
Too bad I don't shoot full frame anymore.

  • @matthewneiman

Thought this was a weird focal length, but I remembered that I used to shoot with the Canon 24-105L all the time on my crop-sensor bodies and actually really loved the range, which roughly equates to this on full-frame, so this actually makes a lot of sense. Really interesting and unique lens!

I have the old one, it's the perfect focal length. Shot a whole engagement shoot with it. Switched to an 85 prime for some shots for the bokeh, but, it's so good

Really glad Tamron chooses this focal range. I think this 35-150 alonge with another wide prime is more capable than the traditional '2470+70200'.

Bough it as my only zoom and love every lbs. of it. Great for my event, concert photography and tried it with little portraiture. Just can't find a single flaw. It's an honest, well build piece of glass, and I actually like the weight to it. It's a stabilizer on it's own, specially when I took some shots at 130-150mm, man, it's wonderful.

This lens is the embodiment of why Sony is king for making their mount accessible. I will be trading my 70-200mm f2.8 GM mark I for this one and I will be actually earning some money, because i'm preordering the Tamron.

Thank you for this review. This lens is one of the main reason why I switched to the Sony FF body over all the other FF camera manufactures. When paired with the new Sony A7RV with 8-stop IBIS, the 60MP FF with the sharp Over Sampling 26MP APS-C images that is sharper than the 33MP image from the A7IV I had while still providing incredible flexibilities that covers most of my needs.
Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0-f/2.8 focal range including in APS-C mode:
    @ f/2.0: 35mm-39mm (APS-C range: 52.5mm - 58.5mm / Total available range: 35mm - 58.5mm)
    @ f/2.2: 40mm-59mm (APS-C range: 60.0mm - 88.5mm / Total available range: 40mm - 88.5mm)
    @ f/2.5: 60mm-79mm (APS-C range: 90.0mm - 118.0mm / Total available range: 60mm - 118.0mm)
    @ f/2.8: 80mm-150mm (APS-C range: 120.0mm- 225.0mm / Total available range: 80mm - 225.0mm)
I rather carry this heavier lens on the camera body than have to miss precious moments during lens swap and plus dealing with increasing frequency of sensor cleaning and dust entering into the lenses and still have to carry the weight of the extra lenses on a much larger and heavier camera bag.

@@ChrisChenAdventures Sorry for the delayed reply. It really depends on the environments you usually shooting in. For me after looking at the data in LRC I actually crop the 24mm-35mm to 35mm+ 95% so it make sense for me to start at 35mm (using Sigma 16-35mm f/2.8 1~2% now). 35mm-70mm without changing lens in any event is priceless let alone that is f/2.0-f/2.8 with APS-C crop factor to play with. One stop in low light is ISO 6400 vs ISO 3200 to me and the less I need to use the de-noise in LRC the faster turn around time for me.

    • @Jeo-What
      @Jeo-What 4 месяца назад

As the maximum focal length in APS-C mode is 225mm, my minimum shutter for people event speed is usually set at 1/250s as focus & sharpness is not something I would like to compromise in my images. High ISO can be de-noised by software quickly but not focus and sharpness.

The RF to EF adapter works great, but it’s one extra thing you need, AND it takes the weight of lenses and pushes it further away from the camera, throwing the balance off. I have the Tamron 24-70 G2, and I LOVE it. But I hate how heavy it feels after awhile cause of adapter.

When I used to travel a lot I found a Canon 10-22 and 24-105 on APS-C could pretty much handle everything, with the only issue being a change over point at a fairly common focal length. On FF I found the 24-105 neither wide enough nor long enough, which meant travelling with three lenses, which was a PITA. I also tried going with just a 16-35 and 70-300 but that meant constant lens changes which annoyed my travelling partner. This paired with a 16-35 might be a really good high quality two lens travel combo.

But this lens costs about the same as 28-75 and 70-180 2.8 tamrons combined. That's the biggest problem in my opinion. With the other two sure changing lenses sucks if you are in a hurry but they also give 28-35 and 150-180 which this lens does not give. Also nice if ever an expensive lens would break you don't lose all your lenses. I wonder what is the widest f-stop this gives at 70-75mm. Some test photos seemed to be at f2.5 which is slightly better for lowlight than the other tamron zooms

Would it be fair to consider the same conclusions but for a nikon mount? I was planning to buy a nikkor z 24-70 f2.8s but seeing the tamron with similar quality, more zoom (although less wide angle) and cheaper prices is making me think more. My photography objects for the lens would be mainly landscapes, cars and trains. For birds I'd have the z 180-600 so having the 35-150 would cover the gap between lenses more. So, is the Tamron equally as good with a z mount?

This seems like an awkward lens at 35-150, but consider how many times you shoot within this range? This lens is becoming attractive the more I see reviews like yours. Tamron and Sigma have really picked up their game with nothing short of excellent lens that compete with the first party lens. And their prices are better.

I found this lens to have a major focussing flaw.. back focus when shooting moving objects in low light situations. I shoot dance competitions and when the dancers are near the audience the focus finds the audience faces and goes from the dancers. Using lock on tracking wide with sticky 0 and it still jumps on my A9 with v6 update. A firmware update needed for sure!

Can all buttons on the lens be disabled? I noticed in all-day street photography, buttons tend to get accidentally switched, which means you always need to take that extra half-second to check they're at where you wanted them. Great review and beautifully shot, by the way!

Thanks for that review! I've just got into photography/video and I wondered whether you might give me some advice...
I own a A6600 (so, APS-C) and two lenses: the kit lens Sony 18-135 mm (f 3.5-5.6) and the Sigma 16mm f1.4. I'd like a zoom lens with wide aperture (one thing I'd like to do is to take pictures of my kid playing basketball, typically is poorly lit sports halls). I'm hesitating between two options for a zoom lens: the Tamron 35-150mm and the Tamron 70-180mm. The latter is cheaper, lighter, would work with the 67mm ring size filters I already have, and I wouldn't loose on the wide aperture when zooming since I think that the 35-150mm quickly moves from 2 to 2.8 when zooming, and the 70-180mm has got a little more range, so it seems a good option. Do you think 2.8 would work well for fast indoor sports? I saw someone in the comments mention the possibility of a Tarmron 70-200 in the future... Should I hold on a little for a better alternative?
