@Mutton Biryani yes no need to disable if the laptop have already a separate GPU built in inside... to allow the external GPU to act as the main GPU i saw people disable it at their bios but if your laptop running at Processor i-GPU no need to disable it
You need to leave the BIOS option to Switching (or hybrid) if you want the laptop screen to work. Consider disabling the onboard GPU in device manager instead, not sure if that would work, but that is the approach. Also, the WiFi m.2 slot is on a 2x slot. If the laptop has an m.2 meant for an SSD then that will be 4x and should perform better.
I have a question. There is a usb type c port on my laptop and I want to know if it is possible to add a external gpu through that instead of the PCIe x slot. Also i don’t want to add an external gpu case as they are too expensive
i have a question, is it possible to use an adapter msata pcie to sata and then using dvd rom caddy connect it to dvd rom drive? will it work or will it be faster? i personally assembled and used an external gpu( beast kit and same method) for my acer laptop it worked but a few months later i encountered problem with the battery and cpu base clock stock at 0.38ghz. i fixed this issue by returning my laptop to its original form and resetting the bios.
Very important. The 4-pin connector should go to the motherboard 4-pin connector, and NOT the 4-pin from the 20+4 main connector. The motherboard 4-pin connector is sometimes packaged as a 4+4 connector, just uncouple it to get what you need. This setup works with mini Pc boxes, but you need to use the WIFI port, not the m.2 port. Make sure you have the NGFF cable or use a mini-PCIe to NGFF adapter cable.

you know i love it how people always state things like "i can't afford space for a desktop and i don't want to deal with all the extra cables just to get into pc gaming, a laptop for me is perfect", yet to get a graphics card to work with a laptop, you still need a desktop power supply, and the pci express slot that comes with that dock, not only that but unless you have an ethernet cable or an extra usb wifi card, you cannot get back online, because that's how the graphics card is connecting and communicating to your laptop computer, and a project like this cannot be exactly "cheap" either all this hardware have to be purchased including the graphics card and every time you want to use the laptop on the go you have to disconnect all those cables and reinstall the wifi card, its doable but for people like me overtime this kind of strategy would become a headache.

you have to switch the settings in windows to make your games run from the GPU or else it'll run on the intergrated one when you try to run it from the laptop's screen

So we need an external monitor too instead of using Laptops monitor? I mean instead of using external Gpu is it possible to change our dedicated card and upgrade it?so we can still use the Laptops monitor. Thanks, any expert answer will appreciate it 👍
probably the reason it doesn't work with the laptop screen is because most laptop, including yours that you showed in the video has A HDMI OUT port,it sends out video output.you cannot send signal the other way using hdmi technology.what you can do is use the igpu while not opening any apps, and set the app you want to use the gpu on to high performance(windows detect dedicated gpu as high performance mode and iglu as power saving mode)then whenever you open the app you set to high performance,boom.magic.this is common with laptops that have a mobile/full sized dedicated gpu in them,LTT used this trick to game on a mining gpu that has no outputs.
This is dead wrong. If you look closer, you'd see that nothing is connected to the laptops HDMI out port. However, an adapter is used to attach an HDMI cable to the laptops PCIe port. Obviously this is not a standard HDMI connection because the laptop is interfacing with the card using Vulkan or DirectX APIs, which do not utilize HDMI technology for CPU GPU communication. In this case, it is possible for video to be sent back into the pc through the HDMI cable due to the special implementation

Nice , is good to know how to impruve a laptop gaming capacity,tKS FOR THE VIDEO!!!
Very informative but damn it feels like 2009ish watching this vid
That makes it better
As someone who regularly watches your FFXIV lyric videos, this was not the channel I expected to find when looking for an external GPU to run MH Wilds.
For that conversion I would recomend a case for cable managment, it's a mess using a desktop PSU without a case
Check out the dell DA-2 power supply. It is very neat for a external gpu
#1 set your bios back to gpu switching allowed
#2 goto device manager & disable the dedicated gpu.
#3 nvidia control panel and make sure it is using the extrenal gpu for physx and world program settings.
now it should work for gaming on the laptops screen
Just a question bro, I'm planning to connect my egpu to m.2 nvme PCIe 3.0, is there any configuration needed to make it work?
Thanks so much for the video, mate! I wanna get something like this for my HP EliteBook 8560p, but I'm not too sure about how to go about doing things.
Blayze Deville yeah i have this machine
I have the 8560w and I'm looking into the same thing. If you end up finding any info or do it yourself, I'd like to hear the update
same model i have . i am also planning to install egpu
i tried this on my Toshiba satellite c80 laptop and an amd rx280x runs smooth but when i tried Nvidia god dang too many issues , great vid 👍👍
you know i love it how people always state things like "i can't afford space for a desktop and i don't want to deal with all the extra cables just to get into pc gaming, a laptop for me is perfect", yet to get a graphics card to work with a laptop, you still need a desktop power supply, and the pci express slot that comes with that dock, not only that but unless you have an ethernet cable or an extra usb wifi card, you cannot get back online, because that's how the graphics card is connecting and communicating to your laptop computer, and a project like this cannot be exactly "cheap" either all this hardware have to be purchased including the graphics card and every time you want to use the laptop on the go you have to disconnect all those cables and reinstall the wifi card, its doable but for people like me overtime this kind of strategy would become a headache.
You really just need to buy a desktop lol or a laptop with decent graphics card.
Many of us have spare parts bruh
@@universityrepairFL not all of us have spare parts it depends on where you are and how much things cost.
Nice vídeo. Regards from Brasil.
You do not need to use an external monitor.
You can just set it as default for all low-medium to very high GPU intensive apps.
Bro if i use this method using rx 580 and latitude E7470, will i get full performance?
And i need to get external monitor to get full performance i will get, but please i need an accurate answer. Help me i beg you i waited so long for this moment please
There might be a bottleneck with the laptop, but it should be OK. When you have the apps using an external GPU, the internal one will be used to render.
@@DanielBerzinskas i don't understand the last message ( that the internal gpu will render apps?) and i will get external monitor with it. i don't mind the bottleneck but what i want to know if i will get high fps like the rx 580 has to give. and thank you so much
@@ahmadno-1633 I meant that rendering will happen on the external GPU, but the internal one will actually show the stuff.

Nice video man.
4:55 You can use a HDMI ghost dongle.
Using this method, does the performance will be the same compared when using an external monitor?
Nice video going to try it soon.
you have to switch the settings in windows to make your games run from the GPU or else it'll run on the intergrated one when you try to run it from the laptop's screen
I'm guessing but, is it the graphics settings' advance settings? I went to there last time and it shows me that I can select games to set its performance to high and something appears like some sort of graphics card list that I can set/use on a game that I want
@@jayveebernaldez1087 nvidia graphsics then 3d settings and you'll see a option in the list where u can select the gou for a specific game.
You'll have latency lag if you use the internal display. Google why it's hard to explain. When using egpu you have to use an external for best performance
@@elhefe6029 nope, laptops with dedicated GPUs works on that principal and there is barely any lag.
@@tristan6509 please google it. You have no clue what you're talking about. You're literally halfing your bandwidth by using internal display with egpu. Please for the love of god stop talking about stuff you know nothing about. google is your friend.
I stumled on this video just now...well, good work man, but it was old news when you released it. No disrespect though, some people just don't follow Linus, Jay...OK, that being said, you can find solution for your problem with no picture on laptop screen at Linuse's channel...basically they explain how to make your other card give signal through integrated graphics output in Windows 10. It's the same feature which sets what card should be used with what application if you had your dedicated card left turned on.
Nvm me, just go thorough Linus Tech Tips and you'll find solution there. Good video, keep posting, knowledge is power 👍💪
Wow nasa recommendation ko na. Im not even subbed. Haha. Grats chad. -bucsit

Maybe Turn off integrated Graphic (if you can) so that it switch to other Graphic/Card.
Nice idea to upgrade my laptop 👍
I wish there was a tech through which we could us external processor. I am stuck with my i3 processor on dell inspiron. And I wish I could upgrade it. But unfortunately, it is hard soldered on the motherboard 😭😭😭
do you use an ssd? if no, upgrade it this minute!
I wanted to do that with my laptop that has Intel HD 4400 but sadly the GPU that I have is GTX 1050 luckily I've been informed that it won't work before wasting my money. Thanks.
I feel bad for you well at least you learnt a lesson
I am dead man this is my end
You need external GPU and Monitor as laptop has not any hdmi-in port. To view in laptop screen, You need to remove your laptop screen and attach to hdmi controller board. This is like DIY works and the reason why I dropped the idea to add external GPU.
You will Probably already have found out but, You can go to Display settings, Scroll down and look for a small text that says graphics settings, click on it and then you have to choose the game or Programm you want to use the Gpu with. click on browse and find the game application in your files. Then it takes u back to the settings screen where you can see the program you chose. click on it and click on options and choose the gtx 560. Now it should always use the gtx 560 for that specific program. and u will probably be able to set it back to switching gpu mode in the bios, beacause then everything on your laptop screen is rendered with gt 640m except for the games, im not sure though. but doing so does add a bit off delay. Everything your gtx 560 is doing has to travel back through the pcie port to the gt 640m and then to the laptop screen so i myself would use a seperate monitor anyway.
My house suddenly blew up, but you told me in your disclaimer. So no worries, you're good. 🤣
In order to make the external GPU work on your laptop screen you need to be able to use a thunderbolt type c connection.
his laptop is too damn old to hAve thunderbolt interface that is why he is using the PCIE x4 because its the only way his laptop would support his graphic card.
@@michaeljaen5261 yeah I know I was saying it would work only if he had a thunderbolt port. 🙂

Yes. I just did it with mine. Laptop screen doesn't work when the eGPU is connected and turned on though, so you will need to connect a monitor to the eGPU you choose to use.
Excelent video thanks alot; one question do you think that the monster works with GTX 1650 and 1660 Ti (or super) ?

I think you ran into this issue because your laptop's display was connected to the cpu's integrated graphics and not the dedicated graphics card

If your pc had thunderbolt connection, is it possible to connect from hdmi to directly to laptop's thunderbolt?
Not all type c port is thunderbolt so its hard to say. Just double check your laptop model on the internet to see if its type c or thunderbolt
Nice way to start a video
Good luck for those laptops who gets broke after trying this because of whitelisting
probably the reason it doesn't work with the laptop screen is because most laptop, including yours that you showed in the video has A HDMI OUT port,it sends out video output.you cannot send signal the other way using hdmi technology.what you can do is use the igpu while not opening any apps, and set the app you want to use the gpu on to high performance(windows detect dedicated gpu as high performance mode and iglu as power saving mode)then whenever you open the app you set to high performance,boom.magic.this is common with laptops that have a mobile/full sized dedicated gpu in them,LTT used this trick to game on a mining gpu that has no outputs.
But does it run crysis?
4:47 That is normal, especially with this kind of setup. And also if you do not plug in your monitor cable to the GPU, not the motherboard ports.
cheap?
step 2: spend over 2000 dollars
