For the love of God, never give this guy coffee!
lol
I give him coffe later
... or Red Bull.
LOL, he is probably already snorting something.
This guys day job must be an auctioneer.
I actually like the fast talking speed, you get to the point quick, I like it!
Me too, it is a already long video which would be much longer and boring to watch otherwise. Great video.
I know I'm way late here, but I find the fast talking refreshing. Some people talk sooooo slowwwww. My mind starts to wander, and I just want them to get to the point.
Adjust the video speed to your liking. Watching at 2x speed is very nice once you get use to it.
@@LightWaIker yeah....I did it sometimes
When he gets very fast he almost goes full 'Kermit the Frog'
adhd lmao jk
I really appreciate your video style, no wasted time and straight to the info! Thank You, great video!
You forget to mention the Bootleneck :P Some noob gonna put a gtx 1080ti to his Intel pentium 2 notebook and then wonder why he gets only 18-28fps XD
Yes, This comment needs more like to pull it on top of the video. As it is the most important part on eGPU setup. You must keep in mind about the Battlenecking issue. Thus you will end up sad and waste money on nothing.
Do you think the 9.0 version of this solves the bottleneck issue?
@@TheTrueKiNG18 No, the bottleneck happens because the CPU is not strong enough to handle the GPU
@@PHCareli you have recoment for gpu in cpu T6600
how about quadro card ? will it work fine ?
man this channel is underrated.
great video thanks been looking to solve this problem for a while
Very informative, thank you :D
Run A Desktop Graphics Card Externally On Your Laptop
Is it any good?
Watch the video to find out =p
20%-30% lost when used on a mPCIe slot. but very good alternative to low end gamer and power efficient since laptop don't consume that much power. A gamer with enough fund to buy high end gaming rig wouldn't bother on this one.
can you make a vidio how to make a case for this divise(with an integratet power supply) luke the racer core but with a budget from 80 euro.
just collect some acrylic, cut some holes and glue them with adhesive, it's strong enough. if you wanna secure the parts nicely, cable ties are good.
Life Kommando what arethe laptop models you are using ?
link for the video for express card that is not working on your video. thanks
0,75x speed is nicer to view... just saying.
i still listening to him at 0x
i try play at 0.75 speed. damn u right. hahaha
I saw now a view computer videos and it seems to be a common issue in this genre also on german channels i have problems to come along what some guys are saying.
thats helps a lot
I love how professional this video looks great work ★
u should get more sub. i like your review. i understand pretty much all you said. you got one sub from me
lol slow down, you seem too buzzed up on caffeine talking lol
nice video, has given me ideas
and is that a bad thing
Video isn't well done, way too fast, but blame my hot room, it was a furnace at the time of recording
Life Kommando can I use this with a gtx m series?
Is it a good idea to upgrade my i7 4710HQ GTX 850m laptop to an SSD, 16GB sodimm DDR3L, and finally an external gpu maybe a 1060 6GB?
Maybe that'll almost cost same as a new ryzen build add a few more cash but ofc better than this laptop upgrade experiment. What do you think?
Upgrade you cpu
Unfortunately that old i7 HQ chip is soldered on. Maybe I'll need to ditch this laptop afterall.
Speak lil bit slower. If you wish to have lot of non English native subscribes too.
Thanks a bunch very descriptive I was thinking of getting one myself but unsure if I need another monitor or just disable the iGPU in the bios I got an old Toshiba Satellite that I would like to use for some medium-high settings games from a few years ago and I picked up a working tested GTX 680 from a a thrift store for 10 dollars should be a fun project
I did somthing similar with a few projects. 5 scenarios makes this plausible/useful.
First a few ASUS and one alienware had hdmi input so you could switch the display over the a hdmi input from the external card.
Second being a high performance mpc like the gigabyte brix which both has a spare mpci slot and would require a tv or monitor for normal use anyway.
Third is using steam streaming which does not bottleneck the limited lane enough to make it useless.
Fourth is of course of your doing video editing in the field, would act the same as a compute unit, they even make hdmi dummy plugs for this purpose. You can use it with software like resolve because they do not have to use the same card to display the workflow as they do for compression/rendering.
Fifth would be for cheap or makeshift mining setup.
2:23 Incorrect, ExpressCard was used mostly on laptops with WiFi. I assume you mean PCMCIA
try your core 2 duo laptop with the pci mini one. ive got a core 2 duo laptop from 2008 with a express card and 2 mini pci spots. i want to see how a similar setup would run before i go thru and buy this product
the man f
the man did u try?
Very good information. Thanks!
Had to slow down the speed to .75
interesting stuff! man I wanna try this!
Long Live ThinkPads !
you speak much better at 0.75 speed
Thanks man
😂😂
Lol yeah, bless this feature, it makes him talk like normal dude
Very detailed, and through the express card there is a difference
im gonna get this. i used to have a v6 that just refused to work.. BUT it was the express card so hopefully the pcie adapter will work better. i think my 1060 + my laptop's i7 2720qm will be a good combo for the hell of it
I have the same gdc beast v8 and an nvidia 970 gpu.
My laptop is the Acer v3 571G and the gtx 970 shows up on the device manager with no errors after installing drivers.
Problem is I am unable to place load on the gpu when using my internal laptop screen.
Everything renders with the intel hd4000 even when I force them to use the gtx 970 in the nvidia control panel.
I'm planning on getting a monitor sometime nxt month, but for the time being do you have solution for playing games on the internal screen? Thanks for the cool vid.
In the bios settings there should be a way to disable the internal Intel HD Graphics, not sure if this would work but be prepared to reset the bios settings by removing the 3v clock/bios battery if it doesn't work out.
That's something I am thinking of trying out
:) np
Life Kommando Got a monitor and everything works perfectly..Mad Max plays at about 60-70fps in ultra
Hurry! Congrats dude
I have same laptop with you but i use gigabyte gtx 670 3 fan...what the problem i getting is error code 43...fyi my gpu was not plug the 6pin+8pin power as the cable still not arrive yet...but was that because of the error? Can u test it for me from your gpu tell me the result as i getting error code 43...thanks
You have to have your 6&8 pin plugs connected otherwise nothing will work
you know if the EXP GPU can use 100% of the power of GPU? Or exists some delay by adapter?
Not even the thunderbolt docks can use 100% of the GPU's power. so that would be a no
It depends on your mini pci-e conector. With 3.0 one u get like 75% of the GPU. I think if u get an higher end model, like a 1080, it can get worst. Just get a 960/970. In 10 series u have some more things to do to get the external GPU working.
Actually that depends on Laptop PCIE version and Bus Lines. Mine has 4 bus line and pcie 3.0 using m.2 Nvme.
Depends on GPU.
I got Expresscard to work on my T530 (with 3rd gen i7) without too much hassle actually. But the limited Pcie lanes really hampered performance.
Thanks ive had the ext dock for a while, i havent installed it yet on my spare laptop...
Question: I noticed my old laptop has a wider PCIE hole and the card shown in your video is the same as mine which seems narrower.
Is that standard sized (my eyes decieving me) or do i just have to fit that in the wide hole just the right way? I might get it wrong. Thanks
Does this have a gpu performance hit since it's PCI to PCI? The modern day thunderbolt ones drop a lot of frames
Tmanstomp100 yes it does thunderbolt is only pcie gen 3 x4 but it's has a very large lead in first place with how much info it can process
Thunderbolt ones only drop performance if they are linked to the chipset PCIe lanes instead of the CPU lanes.
Tmanstomp100 It really depends on the graphics card. Pairing with a high end card will obviously result in dropped frames, check out banggood's website on the EXP GDC Beast for a chart.
Y’all..i don’t know i can understand him clearly i don’t know what y’all on
man ur the best!
I need to try this! I have an old R9 270X and two Lenovo i3 laptops.
i tried this with the Titan Volta
now my atom netbook can play crysis at 4k
Besides the bottleneck lmao
yeah for some reason i doubt your celeron kept up with a titan xp lol
i tried this on my breakfast with the Titan 480!
Now my bacon smells better.
applesorange...
Dude, I would seriously love to see someone attempt to run a setup like that, just for the hell of it. That would be amazing...
XtremeConditions it would be useless lol
speak a little bit slower!
get a better cpu for your brain
LoL
He uses a lot of words to describe something simple too , not good .
watch at 0.75 the speed. it actually sounds normal
frank roffey lol I was going to say it
All future EXP GDC 8.0 Videos will be on this channel - Total Kommando: bit.ly/2HpQJ1U
Subscribe here if you want to see more I will soon start experimenting with a bunch of cards and laptops!
Yes I know it has been a long while since I said I was going to make the follow up videos and don't worry I will no longer be speaking like I'm rapping =o
hey, do you think this external dock would work in an asus f555u laptop and let me play games properly instead of intel hd 520 shitty integrated graphics?
yeah, still nothing up there! will it happen? gta 5 with the 1.8 ghz cpu was impressive ^^
Hi, can you please find out the problem why the express card didnt work and what to do? Thanks!
When is the video goin to upload ?? Im waiting for your follow up video about this egpu on i7 cpu laptop.. I want to see benchmarks for new GPU RTX on this external gpu using i7 laptop.. Hope you can do this benchmark..
When you are going to do another video about it?
There are also Mini-PCIe WiFi cards which only use the USB lines of the Mini-PCIe slot. I don't remember an exact model right kow , but they exist.
If one has a laptop with two Mini-PCIe slots of which only one has PCIe signals, one may still be able to have built-in WiFi by installing such a card in the second slot.
And it would be great if there was a version with a jack which one can install in the laptop's body. With this, the laptop would remain mobile if one disconnects the external GPU.
Its CPU bottleneck , i am going to try it with my I7 6700HQ with gtx1060 (my old gpu is 960m)
That's a pretty slight difference to the 960m I'd assume. Any news? I'm planning to upgrade my old i7 4710HQ 850m to the 1060 as well.
Yep ! Anys new? was thinking to use this method
The i7 4710hq won't bottleneck the 1060 at all and because of the adapter you sould see a 15-20% performance loss. So instead of getting 60fps in some games you'll be dipping in the low 50s on ultra. Its a pretty nice upgrade, a friend used a 1070 to upgrade his laptop and I'm upgrading to a rx 580 in a few days.
Should I mind driver version and windows version? I'm still skeptic about compatibility and would like to be sure given I'll be spending not only on the dock but the ATX PSU and the GPU too.
Hey, is the external gpu dock compatible with the 1060? I’m planning to buy that egpu dock, and btw. I have an i5 7200u with gt940mx laptop
Did you bite your tongue?
I have one myself with the ExpressCard adapter and it works waaay better in Linux with AMD cards. My T530 has NVIDIA Optimus as well and I don't even have to deactivate it, I just pick which card to render on with XRandR. External monitor is the way to though since transferring the rendered image back to the internal monitor eats almost all of the bandwidth. The setup is fairly easy with some experience if you want to use it as the only card, you generate a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file with "Xorg -configure" and just remove the other cards with a text editor like nano.
Dude this is so awesome. Like I built a desktop but I love using my laptop I actually prefer a laptop so this is fucking awsome
This video would have been on my channel but I don't have enough subs
Yes this is my third channel
lol
what was your laptop model plz tell me, my one is lenovo b590 not working why?
Good lord, I had to play this at 0.75x speed
Other than that, good video haha. Thumbs Up
Really Awwesome bro
great video just earned a sub. Question would this be a good option for a hp 9480m would the cpu bottleneck its a Intel Core i5-4310U with 8gb ram the graphics card ill use maybe a rx 480.
You probably have to turn on the express lane in system bios.
I have an ancient dell vostro 1720. Had to go into bios and turn on the express lane for windows to read the graphics cards.
Also legacy series cards such as Kepler, and Firmi cards by nvidia have no issues with with pci express card lane.
I will buy one for christmas
this can work with any laptop that has a wireless adaptor, just with some of them (like amd) needs an external monitor
I think this is a very cool tool an idea ;)
I was waiting to see the test with the NGFF cable and GTX 970. Did you make a video of that?
Liked and subscribed. Now can we get a follow-up where the expresscard works? I have a decent laptop with a poor nvidia 5200 card. but it has expresscard slot and something like this product would save me $1400 or so on a new laptop...
I have hp4520s first gen i7 8ram ddr3 and plan to connect with gtx970 through mpcie x16 port to exp gdc beast v8. I hope it will work. I think in the video is the same laptop with i3 but you tried only the expresscard. And there is also some kind of list with best working egpu's for this dock. I dont know if this card is too much for my cpu but will try.
Too bad you couldn't showcase this adapter using your T400 because I have one myself (next to a T420) and was actually thinking about to pick up the variant with the cardbus connector.
Certainly it won't magically turn these old guys into gaming beasts but it does well enough for say a LAN party or when being on vacation or something like that.
I should still be able to run it on my T400 since it also has the same wireless connector
Thanks.
This actually exists? This is so awesome
Thank you
Any chance we can pm this reseller?Other than expresscard, pcie and m.2 connectors can they make a usb 3.0/usbc exp gdc?I dont mind if the port is limited to only
Will this work on my HP Pavilion m6-1045dx ?? i5 intel, trying to hook up an AMD (xfx) 5600xt, have all necessary attachments psu. Etc. Hooked the cable, uninstalled wifi program and wifi card. Installed new cable in slot and plugged into older style riser (usb) , i got an HDMI to USB for the plug. The laptop screen is inop. Randomly gets picture. But i can do whats needed on my other monitor... ill use external anyways once its done.
I tried to change bios settings but it does not have advanced settings... insyde f.12 BIOS. PLEASE IF YOU KNOW :) OR POINT ME TO THE RIGHT DIRECTION
I recently bought a Oman 15 i7 10th gen RTX2060. I see this video was 3 years ago so just wondering does it still work ok and will it work on my laptop and what would be best upgrade for it. Thank you, great video
wow thats is sick!!
but maybe you must upgrade your VGA then before
Thanks
hey guys, can someone tell me what connection is faster for eGPU? mini pcie or expresscard in practice?
Coca Cola side effect.. thanks dude for the video
Good video. Please make more. I have an Asus n550jv with 12gb ram and i7 4700hq and gt 750m graphics. I have an old gtx 980 from a friend of mine and wanted to get an egpu setup.... do you think it would work? Bought my laptop in early 2014
My laptop was a full sized PCIE Express slot with a removable graphics card. If I had a dock like that it would actually be possible for me to put a full sized graphics card inside my laptop if I modded the case a little.
Mr Trench ok if u have a full size pcie slot then buy a pcie extension then connect the gpu with that obviously u still need a psu though
Prod. Infinity my problem is I don't think my laptop can power a bigger graphics card than a gtx 1070 so that's why I was looking at this. I will need an extra power supply.
My laptop have both intel hd graphics and amd readon graphics. So, should i disable readon graphics to work this properly ?? Otherwise no change with mn fps?
your video is good what camera you use?
soooo i tried doing this same thing with my t420 i tried using a gtx 1050 ti and couldnt get it to read so i found out at the time the new architecture wasnt easily read so than i tried a gtx 970 and after that failed with bios issues and compatability i said screw it and did the prebuilt route and now a year later im almost done with my from scratch build so thanks edc beast for being a complete failure that led me down the road of pc master race
hi .. is the EXP GDC 8.0 COMPATIBLE ON ALIENWARE M14X-R2 ?
I think it's beacuse of the population density and viewing distance in gta 5 those can stress the cpu a lot, if u change the settings on those to the minimum u might see changes.
I wanna see someone using that ac adapter from laptop charger as a power, that build maybe will make sense with low power gpu like 750ti, i dont like a bulky setup on the desk with huge power supply and gpu.
gonna give this a try on my Acer Nitro 5. Once it arrives in the mail from China (oh boy)
Hey man, that's a good video you made, but can you post the video for installation of Nvidia drivers. I am not able to install from quite a few time now
Sai Macharla if you download nividia game centre, you can download the most recent drivers from nividia graphics cards
good one , but need improvement in content, like put a graph and video part arrangement or something like that but keep it up
A better video is long over do, as every content creator says "i didnt expect it to get that many views" it was poorly made and the pacing was too fast
@@LifeKommando and i expecting another video topic related in time
Note that mini pcie will not work on evry laptop, some laptops have locked their wireless card port to certain manufacturers
Playback speed 2x for da sweet spot
caffeine overdose, mate ??
LOL
dude whats up where's the part 2 trying to see how it works on an i5 not only that but what about the gdc beastv9.0????
Thank you grat review. I think it's better save the money and get build a desktope pc
If you don't have enough money yet, You can buy a gpu, this thing, and a power supply first (450-600 watt recommended).
If you have enough money and the parts have arrived, then just reuse the graphics card and the power supply for the pc
Toni Don't even bother with the device. Either buy used hardware or buy new for a new PC.
hai, I interested to try this on mini ITX motherboard, but before that, may I ask you:
- can use power without PSU ? (use only old notebook adaptor)?
can u make a video how setup external gpu using type c thunderbolt?
what happens if you disconnect power source to card, does your lap top revert back to stock graphics?
Like if you built a laptop motherboard into a new housing and had this hooked up permanantly. Could you have a power switch to turn it on and off as required?
May i ask you a question? My Laptop is an Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo pi-2550 and the GPU ATi HD2400 it has damaged and cannot fixed. Can i try this way of replace the GPU with an external to help the laptop work again or i spend lost my time??I asked this cause i see that you do some settings to the laptop before working with external GPU and I have only a Black Screen!Thank you
my laptop's processor is core i3-4005u 1.7GHZ and I will use palit super jet stream gtx 1060 do you think i can play high end games in more than 40fps? thanks :)
hey i need advice.. i have HP probook 4420s and im planning on using external gpu.. do i need to upgrade something first to use gtx 1070/1080ti? or i could just use it without upgrading something (i.e cpu, ram, os, etc)..?
Is there a difference in performance between the exp gdc and a cheaper 1x to 16x gpu riser?
Great video! I didn't understand what you said in 6:37. How do I install the driver if I have Express card 34?
don't use amd GPUs I guess
can we just use regular hdmi cable to connect these two since my laptop has hdmi slot or we really need to use the hdmi cable given and need to place it in the slot?
Hi!
Two questions :
In this video looks that this solution imply having no more wifi, correct?
Is there any way easy to plug it using the Thunderbolt port ?
Was it possible to use it on HP ProBook 4320s?
HP laptops have PCI device check included ExpressCard.
Did you tried to connect ExpressCard after the BIOS started up?
may i know how to change graphic card on acer aspire 4738z? i mean for gaming and video editing
If you buy one from the china ebay page, even with express postage, expect to wait at least 2-3 months for it to arrive. Plus it didnt even work for my Asus G75VX
Takes three weeks from China and you should first check if your bios allowed you to use such a device.
I just read a bunch of forums and only a few people said it'd that it worked for them. I was hoping to be apart of the lucky few :(
How to check if laptop minipci supports egpu?
Yes when i used expressed card the bios doesn't want to start. So should i but mini Pci cable to give eGPu another shot? any suggestion? my laptop is acer aspire 4730z it has built gpu ati radeon HD 3200
I spend $12 on riser and m2 ngff to usb and it works
Also i'm in bitcoin mining, i have 4 gtx 1050ti, and 2 1060. This 6 cards is from zotac, i'm mining with my frieand.
Can u give me liknk of ngff in Amazon
is it possible to do this with a Hp Pavilion (model- 15-ab165us) and IF SO, what eGPU would you recommend for the best performance that this laptop can handle?
Now I just need to get that base bit and a bargain GPU. Got a PSU to test and reset.
how do you make it run on your laptop screen ? Thanks
Would it be possible to hook up an external Express card holder, or pcie to your laptop to bipass having to open it up and disconnect an internal pcie plug.
its nice to know my laptop can use a powerful graphics card but i have a 940mx 2 gbddr3 a special type but the laptop can handle a gtx 1060 but i dont know if i can use a gtx 1070
