Back in 2014/15 when the only way to make decent money fast was by trading, the Python was the go-to step towards an Anaconda. Many Commanders, myself included, after purchasing a Python did not buy another ship or upgrade the ships they already had until they had earned enough for a Conda. The next step after that was usually to trade with the Conda to make enough credits to A-rate that. Happy days and a time when we were satisfied with playing much of the game with our imaginations. I offloaded my Python years ago, but still still hold it with the same regards and was the first ship I had where I felt confident when taking on larger or other medium-sized ships in combat.

my first interaction with another player in this game was with a Python pirate who helpfully gave me instructions on how to empty my cargo for him to steal haha. I was just grateful not to be sent to the rebuy screen.
Great ship, love the cockpit view

The Python is my goto for BGS work. Decent cargo hold, limpet collector, fuel scoop, SRVs, large shield, 5 big weapons - covers everything I need to do to gain influence.

The Python was my ship for when those long-haul trading, delivery and smuggling missions from Quince and Aditi were lucrative for a new commander.

Im using Python for mining. She is outstanding for this role. 192t cargo, 2 lasers, subsurface missles, seismic charge and abrasion blaster gives enough to refuel my FC quite fast and mine some low temp diamonds and void opals in the process for additional profit. And oh boy, she is dancing between the asteroods.
Also the same as you, Python was for me first "end game" ship I wanted days back, I used for Bounty Hunting and other things, but after she was stripped to role of main mining ship. Overall this ship is from the kind: Hard to love, but much harder to hate.

I made my second Billion credits mining in a Python out in Colonia. It's a great core mining ship as it can carry enough limpets and limpet controllers to make short work of any rock. I keep the large hardpoints for a pair of multicannons and a beam laser. I can hunt down anything smaller than me with confidence, and even stand and fight with most ships my size. With an engineered FSD, Distributor, and Powerplant I have more than enough to run everything at once. I even have a class 4, bi-weave shield and a class 6 fuel scoop. It's maneuverable enough to get right into a rock after it's cracked open. I'm currently back in the bubble running trade with it. I've also used it for passenger rescue missions with no guns and a Guardian FSD booster. Dirty drive tuning and drag drives let me boost at over 500 m/s and I can boost every 5-6 seconds with all pips in engines.
The Python really is the Jack of all trades. If you set it up right and have a little skill, you can master a few things too.

FWIW - an upgraded Python is capable of jumps of over 50 light years (and that's with AFMU and weapons).

One of my pythons is named Jack of all Trades, another is Master of One, they are in Colonia. In the bubble, the explorer is Shalla Bal and the other 6 ... LOL prepped for Robigo passengers, economy rescues, mining, cargo, random research sorties and a spare are named per the pattern, Terry of Gilliam, Michael of Palin etc. This leaves two spare mining ships, one left in Colonia (Colon Miner) and the other used and abandoned during DW2 called OMG Miner. I may have a problem.

The python The imperial clipper And the asp explorer Where my go to ships to get things done when I first started playing. So these are the ones that would like most to see upgraded , particularly the imperial clipper. so that is taken off the large landing pad status but virtue of its wings alone.

Nice. Perhaps do a side-by-side comparison between the Eagle Mk II and the Imperial Eagle, as the change in design language and degree of upgrade might point the way to the Python Mk II's capability.

The "PYTHON" is in my personal opinion the number one go to ship. Though offically a medium sized ship; It is and can do everything almost greatly. I refer to the Conda as the Python's father and the Krait Mk II as the Pythong's yonger but extremely competive younger little brother, who also can do everything almost as well as it's older brother the Python.
It would seem that the majority of commander's spend a lot of time, effort and funding; Purchasing, engineering and for the most part because they have so many in dry dock. Which mean's they have spent a considerably more time and effort along with having to gathre fund's to do so. Thus regardless of how you say it, think of it, do it. More "GRIND"!
I obtained a python a couple of month's after my starting to play ED when first released on the Sony Play Station 4. Being fully retired, I've got a vast number of hour's to play every day and do so. It's been eight year's now and I've still only have three ship's. In the order of progression, engineering they are the Python, Krait Mk II and the Conda. Having only three two of which share the same sized compont's and the other one size bigger. Make's the aquring, collection, purchasing of various engineering mods considerably easier and faster and in the long run cheaper having two to three ships, one can and will utilize, vs keeping dozen's in dry dock. Meaning less, envolves more "PLAY" time and less "GRIND" time.

The python is the best medium. Zero questions about it. For BGS work especially. Some of those backwater systems only have medium pads. The largest cargo of ANY medium taking 280+T of whatever is needed? Check. Bounty collection? Check. Mission runner? Hella check. And its engine sound is amazing. It doesn't need much engineering either. A perfect ship. I've been to the cutter and back. The big ships are just cannon fodder for good medium pilots. Too slow and large pads suck. Medium ships all the way. 3k hours spent flying almost exclusively mediums/smalls outside of powerplay where my shieldless cutter reigned supreme. The good old days.

As far as multi-role goes, my Cutter has spoiled me...
But my Pythons most certainly still have their niche!
The Pthon was the first ship I really 'got my grind on' for.
Looking forwards to the new mk2! o7

The mkII ship I would love to see in the game would be the type 7 with a reduced hight so we could get all that cargo out to platform stations, we all use the python as a medium trader but we could use something that hauls more than the Python 147 tonns.

A great PVE ship. Great for trading, mining, passenger runs etc. Like essentially every ship except the FDL, the python is a big fat useless coffin in PVP. $10 says the mkII will also fall short in PVP because Frontier have no idea what they're doing.
