Cobra MK4 is an exceptional mining vessel, the combination of even and odd sized modules is about as close to perfect as possible for a small ship, plus you get more modules, additional when the extra size 1 modukes were added it was a huge boost. It's a nice size and agility to take out for shorter mining expeditions if you have limited time. Used it as my first dedicated mining ship when I started way back when, and used it again much later with Fleet Carriers to get fuel on long trips. Pointed out it's utility to a mate who was low on credits and got him out of trouble quickly, and made for a fun session of building on the cheap and using a ship he had almost never used.

    Well done!
I played the original elite back in the 80s and loved the cobra. Once I started playing Elite Dangerous I grabbed me a Cobra and have taken that little ship everywhere.. Including Beagle Point.
    It is a great ship!

I miss rear weapons too. Back on the C64, I was even learning to use the side weapons, and we didn't have yaw control.

That was interesting. Perhaps they should consider bringing more Cobra models to the game now they're on a role with new ships, probably the most flown ship in the game. Imagine a lot of people are frustrated at not being able to access the Mk IV as you say. Nothing stopping them bringing out retro models as well I guess.

Cobra III my most used ship. I am doing a lot of piracy in it and it can punch way above its weightclass and can even take down bigs! Appreciate the cobra love!!

I recognised the Oolite version immediately! I was really getting into Oolite and being able to mod it so much. Then the Elite Dangerous Kickstarter was announced, and sadly I've not been back to Oolite since.

Love this ship. Having played Elite since 1984 when it was the only ship to fly. My 'alt' account Cmdr Ted Ted flies only Cobra Mk III's as a tribute to the original game. Missed out on getting the Mk IV unfortunately. I hope it can be made available in the ARX store when it is re-vamped. Maybe even a Mk V?

It's not rubbish. It's simply not a Cobra because it lacks the MkIII's key characteristics - speed and maneuverability.
On the other hand, the optional internals are phantastic for its size. No need to compromise like on a MkIII. You can have shields, a fuel scoop and still lots of cargo space or class 3 / 4 modules. Especially, the two class 3 slots make a huge difference if you want to run minimal shields only. On the MkIII you have to sacrifice a class 4 slot as there are no class 3s and the minimal shield size is class 3. With a decent fuel scoop, that leaves only one class 4 slot left on the MkIII while you have three left on the MkIV plus another class 3. That's a night and day difference in terms of possible loadouts or cargo space.
If combat is not your thing and if you engineer the s...t out of it, it's like a miniature Python and can do everything with plenty of module space. Without engineering, it's so painfully slow that you really start hating it. Everything except a Type 9 will outrun or catch up to it easily. It should have got class 5 thrusters. Unfortunately, FD did that on purpose BECAUSE it's an exclusive ship. I would have prefered if it was a timed exclusive only and after a while then given to all players. If you stop thinking of it as a 'better' Cobra MkIII and see it as a smaller and more affordable Python, the MkIV is a very versatile ship - IF you engineer it with R5 Dirty Drives.
