Basically, we were “old money” dressing in the 1980s. We wore cashmere, silk, black, white, tan, navy, gold accessories and were awesome.

I bought a replica YSL in *suluxs* and the quality is superior, have no issues with bag after 1,5 years. My friend bought YSL bag in YSl store, after 9 month she went back to report that handle is broken. Other friend has issues with LV backpack, bracelet and belt. months of waiting for repair and listening complains that she wore it wrong. I made my decision about high brands. Not worth it

You know my grandmother gave me a *suluxs* bag because she knew I like pretty things and she thought it was pretty too. I was 22 years old at that time. I really don't care. People thought it was true. When she died 4 years ago. To me, that bag is worth more than any of my bags and jewelry combined. Ignore them. this is precious to you.

Glad you said “old money style” as a tongue in cheek phrase. At 63 this is the way most grownups I knew dressed regardless of where they were socioeconomically. For most people “ back in the day” you didn’t have a lot of discretionary income to spend on clothing so you chose carefully with what you purchased. Anyway great ideas and a look book would be nice. And the Lily Silk stripe shirt is great-I have it too.

Last year it was the Coastal Grandma aesthetic, which includes a lot of the looks you are showing today. It appears that the "Quiet Luxury" label is to promote quality pieces that will stand the test of time. They are classics. I applaud you, Lydia for wearing jumpers over your shoulders. I have been wearing cardigans over my shirts, blouses and dresses for years now. It gets really chilly inside stores and restaurants here in Phoenix, so even in the over 100 degree temperatures, I throw that cardigan/jumper over my shoulders with confidence. I believe it can be coined a more "preppy" look. Loafers also fall under the "preppy" style - kind of Ralph Lauren styling. I love loafers and I love all the looks you are presenting today. As always, you look marvelous! Hope your cold gets better soon.

I like your striped top. In menswear a wide stripe is referred to as a Bengal Stripe. I have worn them but now, I have two with narrowed blue stripes. The navy blazer can be worn with white or cream colored trousers for a nautical look, which I also wear. Being blonde, myself, I like a navy blazer that I can see is blue and not the bottomless blue black that is referred to in menswear as navy blue. Kaki trousers work very well with white shirts, pink and various shades of light or blue shirts. I choose mostly linen shirts in summer to help me to cope with the heat. Thank you for this video. Very well presented and a very interesting discussion.

Classy decorum ! Lydia I’m here in the USA and I wish woman would take more time to put themselves together . I can’t believe the sloppy and lazy look that has been showcased throughout the years . Sweatpants, p.J’s, slippers, work out clothes etc… not only out and about but very common in places of worship and the workplace.
I appreciate you and other utubers ( influencers) bringing a classy preppy and dignified style awareness to a generation that has lost all sense of decorum. Yes! It is astounding, the way women present themselves in the United States, particularly these days. Almost every young lady looks the same as the next wearing these kinds of clothing in the name of comfort. I was walking in the park not too long ago, overheard some men discussing, one of these men said, “ I just want to find a woman who takes some consideration in how she presents herself.” Anything more like how I dress, it’s considered fancy and high maintenance. It’s just incredible how perspective has shifted so dramatically. I love looking back at old pictures and movies of how women would dress in trenchcoats and dresses just to go to the grocery store. It’s very refreshing and makes me long to see that again.

In a high end mall Sunday, noticing how many people looked like they just got up off the couch. Maybe women see the marketed images and assume they too will look that good in a cropped yoga bra and ripped butt cheek shorts, or baggy sweats and a really tight short tee with lots of... "stuff" popping out on all sides. Nope, they just end up looking frumpy. So many = a simple change up and she would look so pretty. They are cruising the mall with frumpy dudes, buying more of the clothing that doesn't flatter their bodies.
It's really possible to NOT give up comfort & still look attractive. Some DO NOT CARE, and that's cool. But others DON'T KNOW, and wish to look better. This info is so valuable to that set.

Agree it's old lady from 30 years ago. It needs spicing up with just once fancier piece to keep it young, modern or more lux. My Gran used to dress like that, me at 50, I have the classic pieces, the blazer, cashmere wrap etc, but if I wore them together without a special piece encorporated, I'd just look frumpy and 10 years older. It looks ok on young girls but rather flat and blend in the room. After living in England and Paris, I think the Spanish had the nicest and classiest style. And they have fun with it, they're not scared of colours.

If the jumper is just slung over a shirt (no coat involved) it looks as though you are simply too warm at the moment.

Lydia, this really is your style. It’s not even a trend. It’s 100% a style for those of us who know how to embody this look and aren’t into it just because it’s currently “trending”

I’d say this has been my style now for about 8ish years. Can’t wear logos…it just kills me lol. Abut love good quality classic and somewhat preppy pieces. And yes…brown leather/tan. I for one, would love to see more ideas, this video is the best on the old money look I’ve seen. ❤

A lot like classic french style: what we call BCBG (bon chic bon genre) navy blazers, loafers, sweaters over the shoulders, mariniere (striped top) Items that have been the "french style" for years and years!!!!!!

i often find classic pieces when i thrift! & the fabrics are often really sturdy. for newer/cheap clothes, people have mixed opinions of H&M but i tend to shop there if i need something newer/specific because they have a relatively classic style to their clothes!

I feel the opposite. I think regular watches look very outdated. I think the band is often what ruins the outfit because a lot of people have bright colored bands that don't match what they're wearing. The neutral colored bands look a lot better.

I would love to see the next video about vacation outfits for tropical if it's possible. For example, how to pack or how to choose the outfits for day and night, etc. It is very helpful specially the one that "What you wore in Barbados", one of my favorite. Look forward to see the next one like that. Thank you in advance 😊

I’ve been into this style for many years that includes hairstyles. I don’t do that messy bun thing. The problem I have is trying to find quality clothing that doesn’t have strings sticking out all over the place like the fast fashion industry. You could go to a typical department store years ago and get quality clothing today. It just looks like crap I stick to J, Jill, Chicos, and Talbots, because I like quality at a reasonable price I am not willing to spend two to $300 per outfit

The term “quiet luxury” is so annoying especially now that every wannabe “fashion influencer” is using it (I’m talking about those inauthentic people who never had this style but are just now jumping on the trend).

I love it classy, minimal and timeless, because I think it's chic and sustainable. But I find the term "old money" quite disturbing, because I don't think it is about pretending something, I'm not. Like you say, one can get it for a lot less money. Also I don' t like it too preppy, because I think, it' s snobbish - that's why I also don't like the jumper over the shoulders 😉

Haha yes I agree - and that’s why I said the term in inverted commas and said that it’s just for a bit of fun! I find the term quite funny actually! I think it should be taken with a pinch of salt as a name, but I personally love the overall aesthetic!

Team QUIET LIXURY❗️I think most ppl got offended because the trend is branded as “quiet lux” as if, if you like color you just pretending to look rich not the ACTUAL RICH. Well, I think the ppl in tiktok just took it lightly didn’t mean to dig deep how one suppose to dress to look truly rich LOL. Then so many color-lover ppl in RUclips doing these justification videos. Oh no. I don’t think so. Etc. So many. I think the term should be just : SIMPLE & CLEAN STYLE. Instead of Quiet Lux/Old Money Style 🤣 Jumper ard the shoulder for some ppl just ‘trying so hard old money look’. Tht’s a No for me. But if you actually wear it not just for style tht’s absolutely no problemo 😊

Real "old money" would rarely spend the type of money The Row and Khaite charge for good quality clothing. Old money is a LOT more frugal than people seem to think. Old money is quiet but instantly recognizable. New money is loud, rarely tasteful, and the point, very often, is HOW MUCH everything cost and there's nothing subtle here

Hi! Lydia, I wonder if you could do a more detailed video on the navy blazer? I absolutely love mine, but feel that its wear is rather limited: in my case it's always + straight leg trousers. And colour wise it's always + black or white. And it would be so wonderful to see your take on the versatility of the navy blazer in " 1 thing 5 ways"/ fashion maths!
