Being in my 60s now my one piece of fashion advice for you younger gals is to stop shopping so much! Consider your style and your purchases, buy less but better quality, and skip the cheap shoes, buy good quality comfy shoes!! Nothing cheapens on outfit more than cheap shoes Good luck know yr beautiful
Agreed, but we all came to our own style and knowing what suits us by making fashion faux pas and looking ridiculous on occasions. We experimented with trends and had fun along the way! 😂
Couldn’t agree more! I bought 4 items this summer even though I follow 5 stylists and all together they probably recommended 1,000 items!! I have to control myself because I have a kid and family to support. I worry about the younger generation and they just cannot control themselves.
I would like to share my personal experience. I was a size 0 my entire life. I had an absolutely beautiful wardrobe, considering I was the same size from age 15 to 35. So I had 20 years of accumulatingq peces. I then started gaining weight and went up to a size 8. After two years, I listened to all the advice, telling me to get rid of the clothes that no longer fit. I gave away everything I worked so hard to buy for 2 decades. Being as low, I have always financially struggled, I felt no reason to make somebody pay for clothes that have already been paid for, so I gave away my entire wardrobe. Well, it turned out that it was just the medication I was taking. I had to take this medicine for 5 years after a health issue. Once my five years was up, and I stopped taking the medicine, I was back to a size 0 in less than six months. It has now been 2 years and I am still a size 0. I am now re-purchasing pieces that I gave away. So before you decide that you will never fit into something again. Please think of every possibility before purging your clothes. Best wishes to all that read this!
I’m on year 4 of a 5 year medication plan for health issues now and my weight increased with it. You have given me hope that I may regain my former weight when treatment is finished!
@@mlrunning first I would like to express my sincere prayers for you and all you have been through. Second, I am deeply urging you to not buy too many clothes at this point. It was literally with in months that I’ve dropped the weight and regained my old figure. Sadly, this is not a topic that is openly talked about. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. I will share my experience and help you in. anyway I can. Sending you nothing but love, health, and happiness.
I gained weight but I didn’t get rid of my good clothes. Then I am again getting in good shape and I don’t need to buy new clothes. I only get rid of ugly clothes.
Amazing advice. I think its goid to box things that are too small and store. Things I could never wear after all, my goddaughter now loves and wears. I love seeing her wear them. It was okay I saved them.
Oh thank god I read this comment! I’m also on medication and it has cause me to gain weight. My appetite is insane at the moment. I was planning to donate my clothes. Your comment has made me rethink my options. Thank you! 😊
Ah! My finance husband taught me about this. It’s called a “sunk cost” when you’ve already spent the money/time/investment and feel reluctant to abandon it e.g. I bought concert tickets but I’m not up for it now and have a bit of a cold - sunk cost. I’m reading a book I don’t like but I “should” finish it - sunk cost. At a movie I paid for but not enjoying it - sunk cost. I’m glad you mentioned the concept here for purging - good point. ❤
You might also discover if you have a specific type of clothing that you “love”, but aren’t wearing, that maybe you are being influenced and it really isn’t your style either. I have found this with me sometimes. I love the idea of something, and I’ll even buy two or three versions of it, but I never end up, actually wearing it!
Yes! I feel most comfortable in simple, classic outfits but I’m drawn to buy fun and flashy….then too self conscious to wear it because I feel ridiculous- almost like it’s a costume. I like the items, just not for me. Example, fabulous teddy bear coat….love but feel so uncomfortable wearing it. I’m a classic trench/wool kind of girl.
One thing I’ve come to realize and am guilty of is buying pieces that really are not my reality but more of my fantasy life. Beautiful dressy clothes but in reality my life is more basic. In addition I live in southwest Florida where it gets really hot and humid so mostly I need lighter breathable fabrics. I wish I could wear those beautiful sweaters but it’s not my reality.
THANK YOU for speaking about how weather affects our outfits! You are the only influencer that has addressed this! (Others now will mention it though. Lol)
Love when you break and analyze and talk about style elements rather than just showing a bunch of outfits! It gets us thinking about tweaks and changes without feeling the need to buy a bunch of new stuff 😊
I agree with everything. The weather has been annoying the hell out of me. We only have a few events to go to here and there but every time I plan on dressing up, the bad weather kills any idea I have.
This video was amazing and so helpful. I really enjoy Lessons with Lydia videos. Before each season starts, I try on every single piece in my wardrobe. It helps me determine if I feel comfortable, fabulous, and confident in that piece. There are still some items I want to purge, but I will use your tips to make the final decision. I did make a wish list and I hope to stick to it. I still have to work on staying away from the clothing sales that tend to lure me in. You are a lovely lady, Lydia.
I love your suggestion to consider WHAT and WHY we wear certain things on repeat. That’s very useful in determining functionality for lifestyle and location. Thank you for the practical examples too! ❤
Lydia, I think these are always really good videos… I actually love watching purging videos! I just listened to a young lady the other day say something to the effect that it’s not about ‘do you love it or not love it ‘it’s really more about ‘do you reach for it and do you use it’, because some people have a ton of clothes and they love them all! I think the second question after the do you love it question would be do you reach for it on a regular basis, or on a seasonal basis… We can have closets and closets full of clothes we love But just because we love it doesn’t mean we should keep it! This was kind of a game changer for me, and now I have to go look at my closet again, because I have way too many pairs of black dress pants that I love, lol!
Now that’s a game changer to me and one of the best advice! Thank you! I Love all of my clothes - that’s why I bought them 😊 but do I reach for all of them equall? No I don’t. One advice I can give to us all check the label. There are so many chic, timeless, beautiful pieces but will not cool you down in the summer nor warm you up in the winter.
I love a good lessons with Lydia video ive recently gone back and watched some of the old ones because your still is very minimal and classic what was relevant fall two years ago is still relevant to your style now because it hasn't changed so all your old videos are still good information now 🥰
Great useful video! Could you do a video on how to organize your closet. I know that can be the source of my wardrobe problems because I can’t find things, forget about them, make bad purchases or similar ones, or I store items in my wardrobe in such a way that when I go to wear it, it’s wrinkled and I don’t have time to steam it.
Lydia this was so timely! I’m currently culling my Summer wardrobe as we are about to go into Summer and only want to buy what I need. I’m looking back on your Spring/ Summer videos too. Love lessons with Lydia and I’m 72!
This stuff is part of life skills for men and women as well. Everyone should know how to maintain a wardrobe and I'm so grateful you are sharing this knowledge. Thank you 🙏❤
I always love these types of videos :) it seems like you're the only fashion RUclipsr (the only one I watch anyway) who does this sort of thing anymore, and I find it so helpful. I've stopped watching most others because their videos are all about the next thing they've bought/been gifted/spent a fortune renovating, I'd much rather enjoy this more educational style content.
Same, my go to styling girl is Lydia because her content is educational, I can understand and apply it, and I must say for me presentation and focus on delivery is as important. I don’t watch girls who aren’t prepared and focused on their delivery, visual and actual content vocabulary.
This is a brilliant video, Lydia. Thanks for so many good tips to help cut down on buying and use what we have in our wardrobe! When deciding what to wear, I will often start with which shoes will fit the purpose of the day's outing. I will then build the outfit around the shoes that will serve me well for the day.
Wow Lydia, this is such a good video! Thank you for putting emphasis on the weather!! It really is the all deciding factor! And yes to learning from mistakes. I recently decluttered a bunch of white/ beige fabric or suede shoes that I kept buying but never wore because I didn’t want to get them dirty and a bunch of warmer knitwear with short sleeves. They look great but if it’s cold, you want to cover your arms as well! Very much looking forward to your next lesson! 💕
I do this every seasonal change. I live in Alaska and weather dominates my wardrobe. I have purchased clothes and shoes that I rarely wear because of the weather. Once I accepted that I can’t wear certain things because of the weather, I found I have more money to purchase quality items that I will wear on the repeat. Now fashion becomes fun. Also, if I buy an expensive coat or boot, I know I will get my moneys worth based on the “cost per wear.” Another approach is to think about the activities you are involved in and the type of clothing needed and build your wardrobe on that. I have sports clothing for camping and activities, gardening and work projects, dining out, dressy outfit for the performing art theater and casual clothes for running errands. I find if I buy good basics, I can freshen my wardrobe with accessories and jewelry. Keeping a list of what you need to balance your wardrobe most helpful and stops you from impulse buying.
Love, Love, love your videos! I have learned the nuances of style and the small details (a belt, the right handbag, the right shoes, the amazing blazers) that make an outfit! Your ideas are ageless and I love getting dressed every day.! I do find that once I create a beautiful outfit, I have to create an event to wear it to :)
I loved it thank you so much! “Does it serve you or does it block you?” Your advices go beyond wardrobe analysis and I applied it to my life and prompted me to move to another country! 😄😆😅 where I live right now doesn’t serve me but blocks me! so massive thank you! I could hug you for inspiring me! 😘 Btw; I can proudly say that I am on track with your mindset about wardrobes because I already created that list of missing pieces and stuck it into the inner side of the wardrobe door 😃
Thank you Lydia, I struggle with my wardrobe, it's too full, I know that needs a good purge, but I feel guilty to get rid of pieces that I bought and I don't wear. I think your ideas in this videos will help me a lot. I appreciate your style because is classy and elegan but also very contemporary.
Agree with selling them. And to know which ones to get rid of; Ask yourself questions like: Do i love it? Is it in my colour palette? Is the fit comfortable? Is it current or dated? Etc. Jot down your own questions relevant to your style and preferences 😊 for example: What fit best suits your body shape? For me it's a high waist, for everything, dresses, skirts and trousers. Also for my style, it has to be feminine, delicate and not overly masculine, otherwise it completely swallows me up. I need the cuteness factor to be incomporated in there somewhere, anywhere, everywhere 😄😉 There was another comment here that said we learn by trial 😄 and goodness do we know we do 😅 Another question I like is from Lydia. Can you create several outfits with this item?
Thank u. Great advice. I love organizing my closet. Its a small room. My cat loves being in there with me. When buying a piece for my wardrobe i donate a piece. Keeps me grounded.
Thank you for your comments regarding weather impact on style. I live in Stockholm and just like in the UK cold climate does impact how you dress here. I would really like to hear more of a weather-focused approach to wardrobe. Are you planning any video with such content?
This video is very helpful. I have been putting off the closet cleanse and assessment and you have broken down the overwhelming into manageable steps. Thank you! I’m learning so much from your styling videos.
I am just trying to find outfits that fit to weather and using a bike or ging for a walk and ending up in a nicht Coffeeshop 😊 still want to be chic, but warm and practical that is a challenge and starts with the right shoes and coat as far as I'm concerned Your advice is very useful thank you; you are doing a good job. Would love to meet your mum. I think it is wonderful to talk about fashion between the generations 😊 all the best for you
You've really changed the way I dress, with your smart, easy to replicate and really various looks and combinations. I've recently decided to upgrade liitle by little my wardrobe and with your insipiration it's proven to be really easy, thank you sooo much.
Thank you Lydia for such a great video. I have started to take a good hard tour of my wardrobe and I don't know whether I'm like everybody else but I've stumbled across stuff that I forgotten that I've bought. A good handful of items that I discovered in my own wardrobe are the very items I was going to be looking for to buy. I was very pleasantly surprised and I'm going to be making my wardrobe that I have now work for me. I am enjoying mixing and matching new stuff that I've bought with stuff I've bought three or four years ago. I am coming up with outfits that really work and I'm loving what my wardrobe is now doing for me. Lydia. I don't know whether you're like me or not? But I'm starting to go back to basics in my wardrobe. What I mean by that is wearing timeless basic pieces. Like a white button down shirt and denim together or with leather. Like a leather skirt with a white button down shirt and a decent leather jacket or a great biker jacket. Or if you want to dress the outfit up a bit put a good blazer with that outfit. I am really obsessed with blazers and biker jackets. I wear a lot of basic simple button down shirts and basic tank vest tops underneath. Nothing beats a white button down shirt and blazer in my opinion with any outfit. Nothing beats a white blazer with denim and nothing beats neutrals and white together. Experimenting with shades of a colour palette for example Blues. Neutrals. Blacks or whites. You could create really gorgeous outfits. My advice to any young lady like yourself Lydia. Is to buy a decent sewing machine and a decent overlocker. Learn how to use both and learn how to sew. Also learn how to repair and alter clothing. This will indeed help unlock your wardrobe and those ill-fitting items will be fitting a lot better. A game just investing in a sewing machine and overlocker will do wonders for any wardrobe. There are plenty of sewing tutorials up here on RUclips and some of them are really good. Buy yourself the reader's Digest Complete guide to sewing and Alison Smith complete guide to dressmaking. Also buy a decent pattern making book and then you're all set. Like recommend pattern making for fashion design 5th edition by Helen Joseph Armstrong. I am beginning to become a Believer of shopping your own wardrobe and making what you've got really work for you. If you've got any tired pieces. Just repair them. See above with investing in a sewing machine and an overlocker. Learn how to maintain your wardrobe. Invest in a good steamer and a good steam iron along with a decent sturdy ironing board. Ironing your clothes make some look sharper and makes your outfits better put together. There is a good art two ironing and it must be learnt if you are serious about looking premium. Nothing worse than putting on a button down shirt that's got creases on it and has just come out the washing machine. Never tumble dry anything unless absolutely necessary. Tumble drying takes a lot of natural fibres out of a piece of clothing. Where is natural hair drying is it general better for your clothes. Wardrobe maintenance is equally as important if not more important than what you are wearing. Nothing worse then having a load of unironed creased pieces in your wardrobe. They look and inviting and you're never put them on. So in my opinion worth spending a time and making the effort ironing and maintaining your wardrobe and your items of clothing. As for shoes. If you've got white trainers? Clean them before you go out wearing them. Nothing worse than grubby dirty white trainers. So many young females are wearing them and it doesn't look good. Crisp clean white trainers really do elevate an outfit and make you look much better put together. Again grumpy dirty white trainers are not a good look. Any shoe you wear must be kept clean and well maintained. It is important footwear is well looked after and taken really good care of. Makes the outfit look immeasurably more classy if you've got clean shiny footwear. Makes all the difference ladies and girls. I wish more young females would invest in decent belts as well. Nothing worse is seeing a young female with a pair of jeans on the falling down because they haven't invested in a decent belt to keep the jeans. Trousers or skirts up. Belts can transform an outfit and make it immensely more classy. Do you agree what I am saying here Lydia? I wear a belt with every item of bottom clothing I put on my body other than gym leggings or jogging bottoms for around the house. I never wear athleisure wear out in public as I do not think it's classy. It is fine for the gym and it's fine for loungewear at home. But don't go out in public wearing it. As it doesn't look classy in any shape well put together. You go round town looking like you're just about to do a workout rather than do any serious clothes shopping. So my message to these young females is stop wearing his jogging bottoms nor these athleisure leggings and cropped sports tops. Again fine for the gym but not out and about around town. Another thing in my opinion that doesn't look good. Is pool sliders with trainer socks. Might be trending on tiktok. But it's not a good look or classy either. I wish these young females will get away from them as well. It looks lazy and it looks like you do not give a damn what you look like. Again not a good look. I do like the current cargo trend. However dress it up to be classy and we'll put together. Another thing never to do is mix pattern types. Never mix polka dots with stripes. Never mix camo with animal print. Never mix florals with checks. It looks too busy and it just does not co-ordinate together or go together. Checks do not belong alongside florals. Camos do not go alongside animal print. Stripes do not go alongside with polka dots. The rule is. Patterned top and plain bottom. Patterned bottom and plain top. The rule with my outfits is never more than two colours. Wearing three or four colours looks very busy as far as I'm concerned. This is just my own personal preference though. You can wear a matching patterned skirt for example with a matching blazer. However where a really plain top underneath with a plain pair of shoes. As you have to be really careful with patterns in how to wear them and what they go with. Lydia could you do a video on wearing patterned clothing and the mistakes to avoid? I agree with you on tonal dressing. Just as long as it relates with the colour palette and the colour wheel. If you stick within proper guidelines with tonal dressing? You will always look well put together and be making no mistakes. Do you agree Lydia? Again Lydia. Thank you very much for this great video and your great RUclips channel. Pure.
So helpful Lydia. Love this format and would certainly welcome more. May I please add a request for one of your excellent "one item styled 5 ways" videos on styling a midi/maxi knitted skirt. I bought one from "&other stories" in a pale oatmeal/cream, and I love it, but at 5ft 2inches tall, I am struggling with how to style it so I don't look swamped!! I am also thinking I need boots with it but not sure which style to buy. I will bet there are others who would welcome such advice 🤞 Thank you also for bringing us into your lovely home. It is like chatting with a friend.
Yes please, inspiration would be great. I have two knitted skirts, one cream, one black and I know and tried chunky sandals work beautifully with them on warmer days and on cooler days white pair of trainers are great too. Unsure about other less sportive types of shoes, don’t dare lol 😅
Great advice and style options you provide us here. I like your style and am able to adopt it for myself. I do not spend a lot on clothing that is disposable, only need to add to my wardrobe when my items are well worn, don't fit or just don't serve me well any longer. I stick to the basics, not the trends. My style is classic and relaxed. Your content is useful to revive the basics that I have. I find you send your fashion message in a lovely way. Your personality compliments your style and your message is pleasant to watch. I am a fan. Thank you.
Great video Lydia! My kids go back to school next week which means I am ready for fall. I would love a video on shoe trends for fall. Something to think about. Thank for the inspiration!😊
True about the weather as here in Scotland it can be pretty cold. Especially my legs and feet get cold, I do also find the shorts sleeves hard. Old arms and cold arms. I wear lots of cashmere which is cozy and light but winter time doesn’t help when wearing denim as denim doesn’t keep me warm.
“Shoe-drobe” 😂😂 Such a helpful video Lydia. I can’t believe how in depth you consider the humble barrel Jean, but it must be why you always look so stylish 😊. I totally agree about the weather being so important for what you really wear. I have so many T-shirts, but barely wear them as most of the year I need a full sleeve, or if it is hot enough I wear tank tops or dresses. Thanks for helping me realise this, I won’t be buying any more now!
Hi Lydia from Australia! Could you please do a video on blazers and what to look for when buying one, also do you think they are here to stay? And your bags!!! A video on your bags please
Such a helpful video! Thank you a million. You really explain well how to declutter. I am terribly lazy to start doing it but your words about saving you money on the future made me think about needing to do it.
Good advice, I’m glad you make mistakes too. I live in jeans but that’s because I have feet problems so trainers are best for me. I always elevate my top half but often wish I could wear different shoes😢
It is very helpful video, as usual! Thank you so much! I am on a stage of recreating a warderobe and it is really in time. I feel now like I am prisoner or hostage of my clothing. At some point I just felt I want just burn this all down as this is making me feel guilty and stupid, like why I bought all of them and how I suppose to wearring it... So your lessons are helping a lot!! Thanks again you and your team for these videos!
This was a really good video. I'm usually pretty good at purging. But this really helped me to even want to purge some things that just aren't working to make room for things that do.
Thanks to you, I completely changed my way of dressing. My problem is that now I have few pieces that I really like. I had to start almost from the beginning but I'm sure it will be worth it! thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤❤❤
Tell me about the weather! In winter most of all, my options for clothes depend on whether it rains or not! If it is/going to rain, I must wear my wellies over a pair of jeans otherwise I will get soaked by the time I arrive to work. Jeans dictate the top I will have as well, the overcoat, then the accessories to go with all these... Headache, if you ask me! And since it rains a lot in the UK, jeans and waterproof shoes are what are mostly being used in autumn/winter (and probably all year round :-( ) That's the main reason my wardrobe is not getting used to the fullest.
Fab video Lydia thank you xx it couldn’t have come at a better time, I have two “piles” left of clothes to sort out and I was a bit overwhelmed so this is really going to help me 👍🥰
Love this video! 😍 Thanks so much Lydia! It is so helpful. I’m definitely going to use these tips especially when I need to buy a new piece for my closet. Also I’ve been wanting to purge my closet so that is a priority on my list. Thanks again for all your help. ❤ from the Bay Area, CA 🌁
The lessons are very good. I remember that I understood finally everything about the bags after your detailed video about your bags. And the same was about the accessories. Before that I understood nothing about bracelets, rings, watches, etc
This video made so much sense! I can’t wait to apply it, and I especially love the concept about how to unlock pieces you own but don’t wear. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Great video, going to do the wardrobe cleanse this weekend. The concept you mention is very practical and will help to give me ideas for my next trip in September. Loved the what I wore for a trip to Nice, beautiful pieces.
Thanks Lydia, I ❤ lesions with Lydia. You’ve saved me so much money. I have an ongoing shopping list that I stick to, so thank you. ❤ both you and Emma Hill are my trusted go to for inspiration x
Very good content. Actually I think you just touched upon a subject that is problematic for many of us; which shoes to wear with which clothing during the colder months. A lesson on that eternal issue would be really helpful. Please?😊
I would love to see you style your Mum in a video. For example how would you deal with a more mature body shape. I notice from the comments that you have a lot of more mature followers (including me!). Just as you are talking about in this video, we may love something but it doesn't flatter us. Thank you for the Lessons With Lydia series! So helpful!
Lydia, thanks for sharing such sound advice! Something that stuck out to me from your video, is removing clothes from wardrobe that no longer serve me. I used to love wearing high heels, however, ever since I became a mother of 2, my tolerance for wearing them has been become non-existent for the most part. As such, I have decided to part with some really cute pairs of heels in the name of comfort, but I don’t have to sacrifice style to get there.
Hello Lydia, another amazing video 😍 so useful! Could you please talk in the next videos about transitional footwear and how to match it with different kind of trousers and skirts/dresses? Thank you so much!
Love this video. Very interesting. This video really made me think about the clothes I have. And the things I can add or remove from my closet. Thank you for these tips. Sending you, Lydia and everyone here love, light and good deeds.
Great advice re a closet clean out, but I don’t immediately get rid of clothes that don’t fit anymore, that I don’t love, or that are uncomfortable. Instead, I store them away until the applicable season comes around again, at which time I reconsider. Although very few of these pieces make it back into my closet the following year, they do free up my closet immediately for the clothes I do love and do love to wear. I find I dress better and more consistently better when I have only the best options available, and if I don’t have to permanently discard an item to achieve a completely wearable wardrobe, I’m more apt to be successful.
Thank you. I think I’m only ever making mistakes and wasting sooo much money. I’m going to try to be patient and wait for just the right items… but it takes so much time! Especially for those of us whose body composition changes throughout the day! 😏
Such a clever video. I needed a video like this years ago. I have spent so much money on magpie purchases😅 Still need a reminder although after watching your videoes for a while now I am so much better❤
I'm kinda obsessed with doing all of these things with my wardrobe... I'm constantly assessing.. I decide what to keep, donate, sell, all based on what I love, use & feel good in based on my style, fit, usage & quality fabrics. Weather is SOOO important! Not silly at all...so is your lifestyle. If you wear scrubs daily because you're in the medical field, how practical is it to have super dressy clothes, hanging unworn? I've heard we use the 80/20 rule here- most of us wear the SAME 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time.
In the past I’ve got rid of items because they were no longer in style, I have regrets about a few pieces that I loved, because what goes around comes around, especially as you get older!
Shoes... I always start with them because as you say ... the weather and I hate cold feet! But find I am unsure as too what shoes to go with different length of trousers . Also can you wear socks? 😀so hard this inbetween weather . I like sandels or boots as many shoes hurt my feet. Thank you for this video , so helpful.
Living in a hot weather city majority of the year I don’t look at ski or bulky coats. I only have one trench coat and it hardly gets any use. I know what my activity lifestyle consists of and don’t buy just because “it’s pretty “ or a “good buy”. I’ve been through the phase of seeing tags on unused clothing in my closet.
Well-fitting, functional undergarments can make a big difference in the way you feel in a garmet. You really have a school teacher vibe sitting behind the desk. Lessons....
Can I just ask, where should your jeans finish on your leg, I’m 5ft 4 and 3 quarters so I don’t think cropped jeans doing anything for me so I gravitate towards straight jeans but want them to finish at correct length on my leg???
Lydia - please make a video about what types of shoes to wear when it is raining. I have worn only sandals all summer because it is so hot where I live. When it rains and I am wearing shorts and it is too hot for sneakers, I don't know what to wear. Thanks!!!
@@bluebird-rv5to , I've worn waterproof Teva sandals but I dislike how they look and I don't like the feeling of wet toes :) I have tried to find better looking waterproof sandals but no luck.
❤😊A video filled with interesting and useful information 😊. Well done Lydia, I really appreciate your effort to us well dress in a reasonable budget ❤🎉
Totally agree (from another senior lady)
This is actually Lydia’s exact recommendations as well. ❤
Couldn’t agree more! I bought 4 items this summer even though I follow 5 stylists and all together they probably recommended 1,000 items!! I have to control myself because I have a kid and family to support. I worry about the younger generation and they just cannot control themselves.
Very true.

I would like to share my personal experience. I was a size 0 my entire life. I had an absolutely beautiful wardrobe, considering I was the same size from age 15 to 35.
Would love to hear about that too
Lydia this was so timely! I’m currently culling my Summer wardrobe as we are about to go into Summer and only want to buy what I need. I’m looking back on your Spring/ Summer videos too. Love lessons with Lydia and I’m 72!
Thank you Lydia! I love these “lessons” videos. Your channel is absolutely my fave styling channel. I’ve been scribbling notes and binge watching 😄
Massively agree!
Love your practical, analytical approach to purging. I needed this video for proper motivation to get busy!
Lol i love that 😅
❤as always great job. I love Lessons with Lydia. The information is so informative regardless of shape or age!
Btw; I can proudly say that I am on track with your mindset about wardrobes because I already created that list of missing pieces and stuck it into the inner side of the wardrobe door 😃
I would recommend selling those items! The guilt goes away because you are getting money back that you can put towards more intentional purchases
Agree with selling them.
And to know which ones to get rid of; Ask yourself questions like:
Do i love it?
Is it in my colour palette?
Is the fit comfortable?
Is it current or dated?
Etc. Jot down your own questions relevant to your style and preferences 😊 for example: What fit best suits your body shape? For me it's a high waist, for everything, dresses, skirts and trousers. Also for my style, it has to be feminine, delicate and not overly masculine, otherwise it completely swallows me up. I need the cuteness factor to be incomporated in there somewhere, anywhere, everywhere 😄😉 There was another comment here that said we learn by trial 😄 and goodness do we know we do 😅
Another question I like is from Lydia.
So glad you had a break!!! 🎉🎉Always good to get perspective ❤❤
❤Love this topic!!!❤
This video is very helpful. I have been putting off the closet cleanse and assessment and you have broken down the overwhelming into manageable steps. Thank you! I’m learning so much from your styling videos.
Great job Lydia! I like how you use your intelligence to guide how you shop and dress. Your suggestions are really useful.
Fantastic advice! Thank you. Please keep these coming. Enjoy your day!
I am just trying to find outfits that fit to weather and using a bike or ging for a walk and ending up in a nicht Coffeeshop 😊 still want to be chic, but warm and practical that is a challenge and starts with the right shoes and coat as far as I'm concerned
Your advice is very useful thank you; you are doing a good job.
Lydia pls make a podcast!! I feel like you have a lot to say and it’s all such practical advice 🤍 i would love that!
Yes please 😃
True about the weather as here in Scotland it can be pretty cold. Especially my legs and feet get cold, I do also find the shorts sleeves hard. Old arms and cold arms. I wear lots of cashmere which is cozy and light but winter time doesn’t help when wearing denim as denim doesn’t keep me warm.
“Shoe-drobe” 😂😂
Such a helpful video Lydia.
One of the best videos about fashion that I ever seen! Thank you! ❤
Excellent Video. After many years of refining my wardrobe, I learned several new things on your video Lydia. thank you!
This video is one of the most useful and inspiring to change something in our wardrobes!
Hi Lydia from Australia! Could you please do a video on blazers and what to look for when buying one, also do you think they are here to stay? And your bags!!! A video on your bags please
Thanks Lydia for doing these videos where we don’t have to go out and purchase copious amounts of clothing. These are my favourites!
Such a helpful video! Thank you a million. You really explain well how to declutter. I am terribly lazy to start doing it but your words about saving you money on the future made me think about needing to do it.
Your Lessons with Lydia are so great. Thanks!
Good advice, I’m glad you make mistakes too. I live in jeans but that’s because I have feet problems so trainers are best for me. I always elevate my top half but often wish I could wear different shoes😢
So much value! Thank you for the organized, thoughtful and well put together video. Really appreciate the insight and tips ❤
Thank you! I need to do this so much, try to do it every year because where I live is eternal summer 😄 but haven’t done it yet! Great video
Lydia would you do a video on petite(5'2) hourglass shape best choices of bottoms, tops, dresses and coats?
This video made so much sense! I can’t wait to apply it, and I especially love the concept about how to unlock pieces you own but don’t wear. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
please do a more autumn content 🍂 please please :)
Yes please 😃🍂🍄 our minds already travel into romantic autumnal mode 😊🥰🍂🍁
Great video, going to do the wardrobe cleanse this weekend. The concept you mention is very practical and will help to give me ideas for my next trip in September. Loved the what I wore for a trip to Nice, beautiful pieces.
I love running shoes, but I keep it at home, I prefer loafers, flats, sandals. Way more dressy.
Way to go Miss Lydia I enjoy every one of your videos.
So helpful!
Great content! Yes please we want more like this! You are the British Élodie Romy!
Shoedrobe…….😂. Love it. One great tip I’ve picked up from you is accessories to elevate what I already have.
Love this video. Very interesting. This video really made me think about the clothes I have. And the things I can add or remove from my closet. Thank you for these tips. Sending you, Lydia and everyone here love, light and good deeds.
Such a great video! It never occurred to me that the weather is a major driver - and that’s how I end up with clothes I love in theory but don’t wear.
I’m going to try to be patient and wait for just the right items…
but it takes so much time!
Especially for those of us whose body composition changes throughout the day! 😏
Omg. So many useful tips! Simple but eye opening. Thank you!
Great tips, great style ❤
Trying and making progress ❤
More lessons with Lydia, please! Loved this! Also any advice regarding best type of pants for long legged or tall women?
Yes to more lessons with Lydia!!
Such a clever video. I needed a video like this years ago. I have spent so much money on magpie purchases😅 Still need a reminder although after watching your videoes for a while now I am so much better❤
I love your lessons. I learn a lot. Yes would love more of them.🥰
I would love to see how you style your hair to look like that, I have the same length
Love lesson with Lydia ❤. More please
Great advice!! I’m working on my needs list right now 😊.
Brilliant video Lydia!
Yes! More lessons with Lydia! ❤
Excellent advice, Lydia!
Yes ❤, love your Lessons with Lydia 🎉 videos 😊
Living in a hot weather city majority of the year I don’t look at ski or bulky coats. I only have one trench coat and it hardly gets any use. I know what my activity lifestyle consists of and don’t buy just because “it’s pretty “ or a “good buy”. I’ve been through the phase of seeing tags on unused clothing in my closet.
Well-fitting, functional undergarments can make a big difference in the way you feel in a garmet.
You really have a school teacher vibe sitting behind the desk. Lessons....
😂 i loved the school teacher vibe 🤓
❤this was Amazing. Please do more of these ❤
Great advice Lydia…you should write a book!
Can I just ask, where should your jeans finish on your leg, I’m 5ft 4 and 3 quarters so I don’t think cropped jeans doing anything for me so I gravitate towards straight jeans but want them to finish at correct length on my leg???
One of the best videos I’ve ever seem ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love this movie❤Could you please share your current daily hair and make up routine?Kisses from Poland❤
I stopped work 18 months ago & recently had a purge. Think I’ve worked out what I wear most but I’ve found myself wearing trainers nearly all the time
Lydia - please make a video about what types of shoes to wear when it is raining. I have worn only sandals all summer because it is so hot where I live. When it rains and I am wearing shorts and it is too hot for sneakers, I don't know what to wear. Thanks!!!
Waterproof sandals?
@@bluebird-rv5to , I've worn waterproof Teva sandals but I dislike how they look and I don't like the feeling of wet toes :) I have tried to find better looking waterproof sandals but no luck.
❤😊A video filled with interesting and useful information 😊. Well done Lydia, I really appreciate your effort to us well dress in a reasonable budget ❤🎉
