Oh my goodness! I was seriously blown away by your classy attitude and fierce charisma. Like, major thanks for hooking us up with that awesome video! Catch you later, babe!
I've just discovered you at age 50 (immature mental!) while trying to discover or rediscover style after 3 years of working from home in athleisure and wearing the same two or three things out when I need to for work. I absolutely love these tips and await the parcels to arrive with my first properly thought-through capsule wardrobe! Thank you!
I would love to see a video where you talk about colors that fit to people with different skintone/hair color. You are able to use colors that fit you so well!
Me too. I find black, white and grey make me look ill, whereas warmer colours look better. I'd like to see how to make warmer colours work in a classic look. I guess navy with cream is a good start, but not easy to find in the last quarter of the year as black/cooler colours seem to dominate. Sometimes I add brighter warmer colours to black to make it more wearable, but then lose the minimalist neutral/classic look I am going for.
You give and show so many valuable styling tips. Truly your RUclips channel stands out above others. So comprehensive and informative. Love it so much. Thanks xx ❤
I had a wonderful knitted dress in 1967, i remember my country grandmother in 1945 had a wool double knit bomber jacket and straight loose pants which was a stunning outfit, she was slim, active light footed and genius, long hair in a Gibson roll around her head. She taught me as a three year old wearing that, to thread a needle. I had another superb knitted pale thick cotton knitted dress I made from two country road sweaters in 1980 as I could not find a knitted frock. Now I have a cashmere light camel polo neck knit dress. I love knits. Linen, cashmere, beautiful leather.
I was a 'flower child' in the late 60s but remember weirdly buying a black knit midi dress in a vintage clothing shop in Chelsea. It had a high neck, padded shoulder, fitted all the way down with a kick pleat at the back. It was from a French couture boutique, and it was so chic. I had it for years. It would have been the height of fashion right now.
@@vivettebell1610 oh yes maybe from the 40s. It would have been wonderful. I think this latest trend refinement is so close to the better 1980s. Your dress would have done well in the 70s with the long line. In the1940s was a breakaway of knitted and cut to move easy clothes of excellent quality I gather from reading. The kiss lock on purses and funnel neck was invented.
Yes, @gloglos. Definitely 40s vibe. It was such a departure from my flowing floral stuff, beads and bells, and floppy Broad brimmed hats. My mother thought I had taken leave of my senses buying second-hand clothes!!! But it must have been a forerunner to my underlying and newly emerging taste for classic styling!!! Well...maybe!!
I had the perfect long leather trench in 1977 bought in Florence. The best clothes were in the past. I had long denim buttoned skirts in 1978, I bought a prefect beige wool blazer with gold buttons in 1959 with my savings before I went to University. The 1980s vogue patterns have shoulder blazers with nipped in waist. Black fine if it suits you. Not if it doesn’t
Been watching you for a year now! You are so incredibly skilled at verbalizing the patterns you observe into such reasonable and easy to follow rules 🤩 All these things that intuitively felt right or wrong, I now can just use your wording to help the friends asking for advice 😍 Thanks for your hard work, and much love from Canada! I'll ask my questions in separate comments.
I especially adore the knitted longer length dresses! I don't have any in my wardrobe, but thinking about sewing a simple one with a cowl neck. Thank you for so many great ideas and photos. I'm very inspired by your video, Lydia. ❤
I also see. I did a search on vogue patterns 2980s and found the key patterns for every best thing Lydia has brought out. Perfect patterns, the clean versions.
@@gloglos100Hi... it's so fun to hear from others who sew! I'm glad you found some patterns for recreating Lydia's style. I love Vogue patterns! Also Burda. I'm really excited to make a cozy knit dress. I'm also thinking of making a cropped jacket. Thanks for your reply. 😊
@@liana2136 yes! Please who sew understand clothes differently. I have made from Linton tweeds in Carlisle UK too, they are on the net. They were the source of Chanel’s tweeds and lots of the couture clothing. We’ll definitely there are 1980s cropped jackets with exactly the side view look we see on Lydia. Looks to me like manufacturers grabbed some old patterns. There is a Montana for the amazing big puffed sleeve blouse too. Probably 1970s. I was pleased to find the 1960s cape pattern from givenchy made in green leopard knit…I bought a cape second hand made from that pattern. The designer didn’t quite get it , non knit fabric, plain wool fabric bind the sides and a tussle and it’s fantastic. Best cape design ever. I even made in 5he 60s a python skin coat short of course like our dresses after seeing marlon Brando in a python bomber jacket in the Rose Tattoo. Oh and dark green suede shirt and jacket with western fringes and a pin tucked all over shirt wonderful shirt to go with it. I pin tucked the fabric first.
@@gloglos100Love reading about your couture pattern discoveries and the beautiful garments you sew. Isn't it nice to have so many vintage patterns available. Your pintucked fabric technique sounds lovely for that added texture/dimension. I'm looking at an OOP Vogue cropped jacket (8937)with raglan sleeves. Linton tweeds must be spectacular! I have some wool blend pieces in my stash from Mood that I may use for the jacket. The fabric stash is a bit out of control. 😊 Thank you for sharing with me!! ❤
Every time, when we approach fall, I find it tricky to pair my tops with different necklines to corresponding blazers/jackets/etc. Plain and full-coverage (turtleneck, crew, etc.) basics are easy, but v-necks, tops with smaller cutouts are a pain. Same goes for the blazers, etc. I’ve just been playing it safe for a while, but I’m sure it can be better than this 😄 Would really love to see you cover dos and donts on matching necklines.
I have some great Cole Haan d’orsay pointed toe flats that I have worn for years…always look good…dresses up pretty much anything I pair with them. I think this guidance on classic dressing is invaluable!
I love your fashion style and started changing my wardrobe to have key pieces that can be interchanged and last throughout time. I like the short jackets, the various denim jeans, skirts. I would love to see more videos showing how to change up an outfit by jacket, shoes, belt, jewelry, etc. Thank you! 😊
Speaking of cropped jackets Lydia, when I was a teenager in the late 1960’s, my boyfriend’s grandmother gave me her cropped jacket and skirt suit (from a previous era) in what she called junior navy, which I then had in my wardrobe many years!
Loved this video Lydia. I have a long black wool coat from 30 plus years ago that I wear every winter. Ty for your never ending fabulous advice and styling tips.
Everything looks so classy and beautiful, i love high boots in a low squared heel, due to some ankle injuries i cant stand high heels but i think still look elegant😊
Hi Lydia, today I bought the “dusty “ blue cardigan/jacket from MD. It’s stunning. You will love it 😍. Looking forward for your video with some styling tips. Thank you for your video, always so helpful for me. ❣️👏
Hi! Lydia, thanks to your recent MD round up I finally bought these gorgeous boots (slightly lower heel ones). It wasn't easy to lay my hands on them in my country, but I succeeded yesterday :) They're somewhat more expensive than I'm used to, but well worth the money. Not only are they both classic and trendy, but also very comfortable. Never expected MD footwear to fit so well! Hope they'll wear well too. Thank you ❤
Lydia, I love how you say to raid your grandmother’s closet. I am a grandmother and wear all of my classics. If I gave them to my grandchildren what would I wear? PS I dress much more fashionably than my children or grandchildren😊
Would really love if you were to make a video on dos and donts of matching hairstyles to outfits. As someone with longer hair, I often find myself sticking to a very few specific, and perhaps boring, hairstyles/jewelry rules depending on the neckline of my top, color of my outfit, and how much there is already going on. Perhaps you can even talk about peeps like me who have a) longer (shoulder blade-waist) dark (deep brunette) hair that adds to my high contrast. Thank you!!
Brilliant video ❤ I love your content. Always very affordable and stylish and you always show the most wearable options. I definitely have a black coat in my wardrobe (and I can’t wait to get it out once the weather turns colder in UK. I’m sure it won’t be long 😂) and I copied you and invested in a cropped jacket. I’m definitely getting the boots in a lower heel ready for autumn/winter. Thank you
Very inspirational as well as informative and do hope you don't mind me adding a little tip. For those who might find a heel on a boot a tad too high for them; a shoe cobbler/maker can often reduce the height of it.. To determine by how much --- as it will depend upon the shank (rise) and pitch, place its sole/toe box on a flat solid surface with the rest of the boot overhanging then slide it forward so its heel meets the edge. Where it lines up will be the amount (noting a new cap will be added).
As always, you have flawless style. I can’t begin to tell you how helpful you’ve been with my own. I’ve always been “classic”, but you’ve helped me tweak it to give it a fresh, new vibe! Thank you!! 🍁🍂 🎃
Love the classic cropped no-collar jacket, otherwise known as a Channel jacket. So Jackie O in the boucle. This style is one of my favorites, and here in the US, we are seeing it in the stores everywhere! I'm on the hunt for a new one in classic dark emerld green.
I just bought a gorgeous cable- knit cropped sweater (Brits call it a jumper) with gold buttons. I love it just as is, but I decided to add small shoulder pads. Instantly my sweater is elevated to a cropped jacket look! I really love your videos and find that I am turning to them often for inspiration!
Likewise I have a black velvet coat from 1980 cut in the long oversize style have been wearing it for last couple years and also soft tan leather trench coat same vintage actually fits me again having had 6 children and am now in my 60's, good style never goes out of fashion. Have always had this sense of classic style in so far as the items could be purchased. In the 80s we had beautiful local boutiques where good quality woolen and other natural fabric were available, not so many now unfortunately. There is nothing to compare with actually seeing and feeling the items you are purchasing Love your sense of style.
there is a fine line, as you get older, of looking old in classics because you are not on trend at all. Someone who is 30 always looks great, literally because they are 30 but.....as you get much older it can look boring. thoughts?
Agree, i think in the end we need to modernize our classics. Like for example a coat: 10 years back wool coats would be mostly fitted but now a more oversized version makes you look more modern...?
I am enjoying the more classic pieces that are around atm, and I'm always happy when something that is part of my style is on trend, but I know that the more bright, logo lead trends will come back around. At the moment, I'm on the lookout for a pair of reasonably priced silver ballet flats, I'm not going to splurge as these won't be something I use a huge amount, but they will add something special to an outfit, and I'll still be wearing them in five or even 10 years time.
I just found you and so happy I did. Loved this video so much! The classics are so perfect for long term and like you said you can always style them and wear them years from now. I’ve been trying to change and invest more in these classic long term pieces and have already benefited from it. I can’t wait to watch all your videos. Also love the fact that you recommend a great affordable range so everyone can do it and also encourage for your viewers to dive into their wardrobe as well. Love it. Also I’m a knitter and love to knit classic pieces and also classic colors that I know I can wear and play with for years to come.
Hi Lydia! So ironic, in Lisbon now is "winter" weather, fog, rain, thunderstorms... Never seen during early September. This weather is really upside down. Love your channel.
Hi Lidia, I believe I have most of the type pieces you’ve identified except I do feel a little ‘sloppy’ with the larger unstructured jackets. I am happy to see that the fitted trend is emphasized as I have so many suits ! I do have low pointed leather shoes but I find I need to wear more structured shoes if I am walking a distance rather than hopping in and out of a car ! I would like a wide pair of denim however I find that I do not get to wear them much as the straight or slim ones fit better in boots when it comes to the Canadian winters! 👠❤️💄
Hello!! I can tell from just three videos of yours that I have seen so far, Lydia, that you must live in a city. I feel like dressing appropriately for my location, and I now live in a small town a half an hour away from the city. You look great, but I don't see myself wearing blazers unless I'm going to the city. I have a black leather blazer that doesn't go with my look. I'm around cats, fish, chickens, and a dog most of the time. What do I wear?? I want to be a little trendy with with mostly classic pieces. Thank you for reading my comment. I did purchase a long shearling coat for fall and I think I know how to style it, but I want to see what influencers would do with it. I only wear t-shirts with my plaid shirts and I have almost ten of them. I live in Maine. Have the best day ever!!
I have a long Ted Baker black coat which is circa 20 years old.I also have a midi wool dress by Episode which is much older than my 19 year old son! Both come out every year. Never out of fashion, just adding different accessories year on year.
Very nice tips! As always very elegant 😊 Regarding long-lasting quality pieces, I suggest as well Mango Black coat Sirenita with Italian wood, bought last season! Love it 😍
I have all of these clothes, acquired over the last 50 years. I am glad my daughters and grand daughters are a lot taller and have bigger feet. Look after everything and it comes back around. Well if they are Classics and of really good quality. I have a limit of between £300-£500 per year to spend on everything. This year it has been 2 Osprey bags. To add to my collection of over 30.
Love these videos! Would you be able to do one focused on mom wear? Everyone lives in yoga wear where I live so when I dress more up to date everyone thinks I’m dressed up and going out somewhere. Need ideas for everyday life…grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking, driving kids, etc. Thank you😊
Thanks for the video, Lydia! ❤ I agree on all points and guess what's in my shopping list (I almost fell out of my seat when you showed it on screen) - the Massimo Dutti low-heel knee high leather boots at p.2 in your list. 😊 The moment MD listed them on the app here in Bulgaria I knew I had to have them, so I can "unlock" all my transitional and winter dresses. ❤ I'll report back when I receive them. Hugs from me and enjoy the last days of summer! 💎🌹💎
Love this video - and not just because I love all these trends and own many already! The one I struggle with the most even though I love the look is the cropped jacket (the Jackie O collarless style as you show here). Being short-waisted and wide-shouldered with a small waist and long arms means most jackets like this fit me very badly. I am hoping with the style‘s new popularity that I may find something this season though.
I have a similar build- very short waisted and long arms. I hate bracelet length sleeves on me because it just feels like the sleeves are too short. but I found (first time ordering) a Massimo duti cropped knit sweater jacket that has great proportions. (it's navy with cream stripes and minimal shoulder epaulets). Id never heard of the brand before seeing it here but it's very nice quality and extremely affordable.
Loving these videos on the classic/timeless trends. We are now in Spring but it is nice to see what we can expect for next Autumn/Winter next year. Love the black pointy low heel shoes. I had a pair years ago in black patent. I literally wore them to death so am looking for another pair now that they are out there again
I really liked these pointed flat shoes that you got ❤ Will try them on too. And the Mango high waisted balloon jeans are very nice to me, will definitely give them a try. Your video is very interesting and useful 😊 Thank you very much, Lydia ❤️🫶🏻
I have pretty much all of these in some form because yes they are staples. For those of us on the N. America side of the Atlantic, if you are looking for an investment piece long coat, The Checkroom out of Chicago does 100% sustainable wool coats, fully lined with quality tailoring and unique but timeliness detailing, that are suitable for actual winter conditions (i.e. -15 Celsius/5 Farenheit, colder if you layer a puffer vest underneath and wear a big scarf).
Thank you for the video, it definitely puts the trends in nice order and the examples really add to it. There are definitely things that just happen to be on trend this A/w, but ive been wearing some of them for years. Leather? For A/W? - groundbreaking 🤭🤭 i do love incorporating leather elements into mu wardrobe, looking forward to wearing my khaki beige power blazer this season. I dont feel tempted by the cropped/short jacket trend. I personally feel those work best on women with smaller boobage area, its just how it is. I do however find cropped trench coat working for a bigger chest, so it's all good😁 ballet flats are a trend I adore on other people, but do not gravitate towards myself.
Thank you Lydia 😃 We’re having yet another heatwave here 🥵🌴 so my autumn spirit is put on ice atm 😅😉 What I am learning about trends, is that fashion does enjoy extremes. We had the skinny, fitted models go to wide oversized ones, and back again it seems with the blazers and cropped tops… So ladies! Keep your outdated quality clothes in storage, it’ll only be awhile before fashion mood swings sets in to guarantees the return of every item, it’ll only be a matter of how to style it properly to stay current 🤘 That said I am so pleased to hear pointy shoes are on trend, excellent time to restock! They do add femininity and elegance to any outfit, it is my little power go to/feel good item 😘
Duo boots do knee high boots to fit your calf. My legs are very slim and they fit me beautifully. They have a large selection of boots in different calf widths.
Any ideas what should I wear to the opera? I am going to vienna in October and I couldn't resist purchasing tickets to Giselle ballet show at the vienna opera house. Honestly formal outwear is not really my style. I prefer more casual looks. Any ideas what I can wear without feeling like I wear a costume? (I am not say no to a dress, unless is feeling like I came out from Emily in Paris)
Great question. I'd go to a sewing supplier (Wawak is good) and look for shoulder pads that work for the garment. There are different styles of pads depending on the sleeve style. A fitted set in sleeve uses a different shaped pad than a dropped shoulder sleeve, where seam is below the shoulder.
The thing you need to remeber about fashion shows is that half of it is haute couture and conceptual and not meant for everyday wear. Designers will have specific pret-a-porter (ready to wear) collections and cruise collections that are for everyday wear and don't need to be modified.
Oh my goodness! I was seriously blown away by your classy attitude and fierce charisma. Like, major thanks for hooking us up with that awesome video! Catch you later, babe!

Agree, i think in the end we need to modernize our classics. Like for example a coat: 10 years back wool coats would be mostly fitted but now a more oversized version makes you look more modern...?
Great question and reply! As a younger woman I loved vintage dresses but realize they would look a bit "mumsy" on me now.
Ty Lydia! Loved this video.
Thank you, Lydia. You are so inspiring! Great style and wonderful ideas! ❤Loving it! 😊
Thank you & love the classic cropped jacket style, think they are super cute ❤
Thank u to mentioning all the brands of clothing 🤗
Good to see the 1960s twin set making a comeback lydia😊
Im waiting from the blue jacket as well❤🎉
Loving these videos on the classic/timeless trends. We are now in Spring but it is nice to see what we can expect for next Autumn/Winter next year. Love the black pointy low heel shoes. I had a pair years ago in black patent. I literally wore them to death so am looking for another pair now that they are out there again
Thank you for advocating sustainable fashion.
Will always have my LBC!
👌👌love your videos and your style
Hi Lydia, please could you do a hair tutorial I just love your hair! And what to ask for at the hairdressers? Thank youuuuu ❤
I really liked these pointed flat shoes that you got ❤ Will try them on too. And the Mango high waisted balloon jeans are very nice to me, will definitely give them a try. Your video is very interesting and useful 😊 Thank you very much, Lydia ❤️🫶🏻
I’ve had bunions and surgery. There is no way I’m encouraging them with pointed shoes.
Very good video Lydia! Congratulations
Love your videos❤
Could you please do one about conscious brands like armedangels? And how to style their clothes classy?😊
Great examples! This inspired me to pull out some classics from my own wardrobe
Pointy toe flats or slingbacks ❤
Loved the video! 👏 Great job.
Thank you so so much for such informative videos❤
Love this video. Thank you!!
Thank you Lydia 😃
We’re having yet another heatwave here 🥵🌴 so my autumn spirit is put on ice atm 😅😉
What I am learning about trends, is that fashion does enjoy extremes. We had the skinny, fitted models go to wide oversized ones, and back again it seems with the blazers and cropped tops… So ladies! Keep your outdated quality clothes in storage, it’ll only be awhile before fashion mood swings sets in to guarantees the return of every item, it’ll only be a matter of how to style it properly to stay current 🤘
That said I am so pleased to hear pointy shoes are on trend, excellent time to restock! They do add femininity and elegance to any outfit, it is my little power go to/feel good item 😘
Amazing as usual! Please - how to incorporate RED in this classic / clean wardrobe?
Shoes, handbag or silk scarf are some ideas.
Yes! I love a brick red in shoes, boots, and bags.
Red lip. 💄
I guess I'll pull out my quilted leather bomber jacket that I bought ages ago!
Crop tops have been around for decades, made more popular in the 1970s with the bands and what they wore.😊
Once one hits 50 you need a tasteful LBC and LBD because older relatives etc start to pass away around this time in ones life. Sad but true.
So agree. For years I’ve needed to consider what I’d wear to a funeral each time I go visit family. Never thought that would be the case.
Duo boots do knee high boots to fit your calf. My legs are very slim and they fit me beautifully. They have a large selection of boots in different calf widths.
30 degrees celsius is about 86 degrees Fahrenheit for those wondering
You had a photo of Kate Moss in the denim segment, but be aware that the pants and jacket are leather, not denim.
I have everything but a long black coat!
Thanks Lydia. Are there any particular shoulder pads you'd recommend, for adding to a heavy coat or blazer?
Great question. I'd go to a sewing supplier (Wawak is good) and look for shoulder pads that work for the garment. There are different styles of pads depending on the sleeve style. A fitted set in sleeve uses a different shaped pad than a dropped shoulder sleeve, where seam is below the shoulder.
The thing you need to remeber about fashion shows is that half of it is haute couture and conceptual and not meant for everyday wear.
Designers will have specific pret-a-porter (ready to wear) collections and cruise collections that are for everyday wear and don't need to be modified.
Found it! Shew! On an IPad things are different.
Warm weather fashion, Lydia!!! Pleaseeee!!! Apart from fabrics like linen...how to look classy and fashionable with 95-100° EVERYDAY!!! 😢😅
Bravo 🫶🫶🫶🫶🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏
I own everything so i am good to go 😅✨
How long will high waisted wide leg pants be around? Finally, a look I can wear
You made me shop a lot 😅
Id love to see several outfits to wear ballet shoes with. I have some and not sure......
Shhhhh - Just between you and me. Tailoring not tailorying. Mwah...mwah
I have a wonderful gray suit from Theory but the leg is straight. Wish it also had a more wide leg pant.
Hi Lydia, would you say ballet flats are still in trend? And how would you style them in fall?
I’m petite and it’s tricky getting modern pieces that don’t swamp me. I have a great tailor.
Are we seeing stronger eye make up again? I'm noticing it here with the the modeled outfits.
Does the single breasted black mango coat run true to size? Is it lined? Is it heavy? I live in Southern California.
