I am happy to say I have all eleven because I have been watching you for a few years and you have completely changed how I purchase and wear my clothing. I no longer have clothes just sitting in my closet but now have a wardrobe of basics and a few hero pieces that I wear and enjoy! Thanks for all the great advice!
Hi. Just a note on washing merino vs cashmere. I am a knitter (handknitting a capsule wardrobe ) so I am very interested in different yarns. I have learned that commercial merino (like Uniqlo) can only be washed on a wool cycle because it is something called “super washed”. Long story short, superwashed merino is a chemical process that makes the fibre in the merino lie flat. You lose some of the properties of merino (some warmth and some absorbency) but you gain ease of machine washing. Most commercial cashmeres can in fact withstand a wool cycle (if dried flat on a towel afterwards-never hang them to dry). Another tip: up revs per min on your wool programme’s spin cycle from 900 to 1100rpm and your fabrics will come out drier and thus reduces drying time. These are my wool/yarn nerd tips. Love your style. @kitkatknitting
Hi Lydia, can you please make a video on spring/summer footwear? Different options, mid heels/casual/dressy etc etc Edit: And some options for those of us who hate having their toes on full display😂
I do like to put away navys, deep grays, browns and shades of black for Spring and like to inject some more color in Spring and later in fall months! Whether a solid tulip yellow jacket or a soft dainty floral dress! 🙂 Of course… To each her own…. ❤
Lydia, you hit the main basics that should be in one’s wardrobe. You can always use these pieces and build off of them. Perfect video to start capsule wardrobe! Thank you for inserting pictures too! 😊❤️
Extremely useful video! I have all of these pieces in my wardrobe since watching you over the past few years. This is especially helpful for when I travel. Thanks for all your hard work!
❤ hi Lydia!! Again thank you for showing timeless and classic options! Staying true to your wardrobe and style!! I am learning so much and thankful you not just showing random trends!! ❤you go girl ❤from USA
Hi Lydia I’m in Australia and it’s humid and hot 80% of the year . I’d love a video on how to dress with style in humid weather when you want a more classic, modest look. I walk around in a bra and bike shorts at home most of the time cos everything I own is too hot - even linens 😭 it’s so crap
I can feel your pain since I live in FL. I love cotton, silk & light weight polyester for clothing and wear long sleeve lightweight rash guard shirts and mini skorts for outside activities.
Love your videos Lydia. Have you seen the label Country Road? They're an Australian brand, so opposite season to the UK, but they do lovely classics with quality fabrics at an affordable price. 😊
I think after watching Lidia's videos for like.. 2 - 3 years now, I start unconciously buying stuff that she will recommend later.. 😂. Mind reading in advance ! 😂😂❤
❤ Your videos are always so inspirational. You have an amazing taste and effortless elegance in the way you dress!! Keep up the good work … many of us enjoy your hard work. Thank you🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm glad you mentioned that they don't gave to be the same as yours - I doubt I'll ever buy a black blazer, white tee or white shirt. I go for navy blazer, blue shirt and ivory tee. I can do without a skirt and opt for culottes instead. The only oversized items I own are slightly cropped knits (ones I'm not going to tuck in), as I'm petite most oversized items make me look like I'm playing dress up in my mother's wardrobe!
I think her style appeals to us partly bcos we like to keep things simple anyway and partly bcos it gets so hot in summer (in most of the country) that we often just reach for the bare minimum
I tried to do the white t-shirt (bcos everyone says it's classic) but I found it too hard to keep looking clean. So I opted for other neutrals in my tees and am much happier. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to follow a prescribed list of basics in set colours, but rather take the principles and adjust for personal style, colouring and lifestyle. But I hear what you're saying and I'm definitely on board about collecting the basics (I just think these differ from person to person). Eg. I'm glad you used the striped t-shirt as an example only, bcos not all of us are into stripes. For me, I've found a classic animal print is my form of a classic. I really tried the stripes but doesn't make me comfortable in my own skin; and I think, at the end of the day, the most important feature of finding your own sense of style is that it should make you feel the best you you've ever felt
Really helpful video, thank you. One about shoes for different kinds of trouser styles/lengths would be really helpful, especially if it contains some flats/low heel options. I can't wear heels, sadly. 😊
Can we talk care/washing of basics? How do you keep the underarms of your white basic tops from becoming greyed and that of the black ones becoming 'chalky white' over time? No matter how I try, with time and despite stain removal techniques, my favourite basics begin to look tired and then I have to find replacements which can be a challenge, Any tips?
Hi Lydia, live all your tips. But, I notice you never mention Oxford/ Derby shoes - Brouge or otherwise. Would you put the spot light on them a bit? In how to style ( both dress or trousers) what is best? Patent or matt...etc. please, please make a video about them. @LydiaJaneTomlinson
Great video and great tips! I like your grey jacket but are the sleeves supposed to be that long? Do you have a video that talks about the right length of sleeves? Thank you.
Спасибо вам за этот мегаполезный канал! Вы прекрасны, любуюсь свежестью и красотой. Лично для меня очень важно, что и как вы говорите и произносите - всё чётко и понятно не носителю языка с не самой лучшей базой❤
I do love injecting color in Spring and Fall months. It feels harmonious with nature and reminds us of change in seasons. I intentionally stay away from black and browns in Spring!
Thanks for the reminders on how important it is to have these go-to basics. I find as I am getting older (now 67) that black is not suiting me as it once did. Ivory and cream tones are working better for me. I really like a graphic tee with a blazer. What is your take on this look?
Hi Lydia! Wondering what your thought process is regarding navy as a neutral. I really love black, gray, camel and white as you’ve mentioned, but started adding navy basics to mix and match. I am guessing you are not including navy here so that it’s not too overwhelming (like my closet 😂) Thanks. Awesome video as usual!!
I’m not Lydia, but my building block basics are often navy and chocolate brown. Also, most greys and stark white are often not so good on me, so I gravitate toward camels and ivory, too. It definitely gives the same neutral effect as Lydia’s samples here.
@@knikki2u sounds lovely! I also have dark brown in my rotation. I have relatively neutral undertones. I can wear most colors as long as they skew towards the warmer side, even gray. However, I look horrible in cold grays, light beiges and light blush tones. It washes me out. Thanks for your comment!
Pure white is only ok for certain cool skin and hair colouring. I can’t wear white as in a white shirt.Similarly with hideous blues. Being deep autumn I have neutral deep rich colouring so need an off white of some sort which is damn hard to find.
I’m an autumn, too. Whilst I do sometimes wear white and adjust my makeup to help me manage, I also definitely have success in warmer toned flax-colored linen button down shirts. I also can find warmer neutral colors among silks. Also, there are few blues I can wear - mine are navy or a muted dustier blue chambray. Lastly, a silk scarf tied around the neck in a an autumn-friendly color can help bring harmony despite a shirt that isn’t quite right.
what an awesome video Lydia. Thank you so much. Also credits to your bf for adding that soothing background music. I was wondering how you go about washing your merino wool shirts? And how do you keep your dry-clean clothing free of stains? Im absolutely horrible at this and it's so expensive to get my shirts dry cleaned.
You can do dry cleaning at home buy some dry cleaning fluid and spot clean your items in-between taking them to the dry cleaners if you only wear dry cleaning only items whilst you are out or have company soon as you are home change into some lounge wear to help lengthen the time between dry cleaning but if you learn how to do it from home you can do a full service yourself as well as the spot cleaning I hope this helps :)
Honestly I just forgot to mention navy! But yes, like the lovely lady below says, you can cater it to suit you and your style. These are just guidelines but I'd always go for block, neutral shades - navy is perfect
Could you let me know what it is about the audio? We use probably one of the best mics you can get and it's right above my head, so there should be no issue in volume and nothing muffled either. I can't hear anything on my side and I've listened on a few devices so would love to hear your feedback so we can work on this. Could you let me know what device you're watching from and what sort of audio it has? Thanks so much!

Why not navy
