    Lydia, I am nearly 69 years young, yet still get so much inspiration from you! I love that your modern still feels classic and very wearable at any age. I always look forward to your videos. They have certainly influenced my retired dressing style & make me feel smart as well as up to date.❤

    Love your style Lydia. Of course me being 61 I wouldn't wear a very long slit up the front of my skirt 😮😅 BUT in the mid 80's I used to have a deep chocolate coloured midi pencil skirt with a small slit at the back, which I loved, and would still wear today. Personally I would put a skinny belt with the skirt. What I do notice today is that ALL 'fashion, styles, trends' have all been done before over and over, this year I've noticed a lot of 80's, last year the 70's....but I LOVE revisiting these eras, I've lived them and they hold some lovely memories. Ballet flats are a staple for me in Spring and Summer. I have black, tan, nude, silver and gold, the most versatile lightweight shoe ever. Your style is very French Chic, we have French ancestry in my family so it appeals to me.....then I go completely flamboyant in the warmer months as we also have Italian in the family and I go all colour, print and boho 🎉 😂 you're a very stylish young woman and I love to see elegance on young people instead of all legs, cleavage and butt cheeks, there's nothing more attractive than elegance at any age ❤

    Lydia, I don'T think anyone can illustrate and explain a classy, elegant and effortless style better than you on You Tube. I love watching your videos learning the cut and design of clothing and slowly revamping my wardrobe, so that I can look put tougher and feel elegant for my age. When I go shopping, I definitely think of your videos . So I'm not wasting money in fast fashion, but investing in quality pieces that I can wear for a long time. Thanks for all of your styling tips!

    Well explained! All timeless pieces that can live in my closet for years. Even the "trendier" ones are arguably still classic.
    I can choose to invest in both versions for variation in style or stick to the version that suits me best.

    There is nothing more unflattering than those mary Jane shoes with the strap. It’s a fashion truism that straps like that shorten your legs…and the shape of the shoe looks so cheap. The classic ballet flat is so much more flattering….why buy a trend that is unflattering and ugly? I don’t get it….

    • @lovingsunshine3515
      @lovingsunshine3515 5 месяцев назад

      I have that problem. As someone who’s only 5ft, I can’t wear flat shoes with straps, they make my legs look shorter and me shorter and just not flattering. Ballet flats are better or kitten heels/sling backs that are so versatile for both dresses, skirts, and pants.

    Oh Lydia! That was a Masterclass on Fashion & Styling! ❤
    I think everyone regardless of age, skin tone, body shape, height can resonate with something!
    To keep it brief, I will pick one.. shoulder pads. My mom in 90s had shoulder pads on so many of her tops. She would actually have her tailor put in on some of her pieces.
    I was a teenager of course then and I hated it. I said I would never do that. It’s come a full circle and I’m not all into it but I’m ready to do your Amazon hack.. removable shoulder pads for my blazers! I actually tried it and I’m loving it! 😊
    Much love..❤

    Very interesting video, Lydia. In my case, I don't stick to styles, but rather what suits me. I know that the fashion industry brings a huge variety in cuts and styles, but regardless of whether it's classic or more modern, I like to look in the mirror and feel beautiful. Does it favor me? Will I feel good wearing it? Is it comfortable, has quality, will it make me more beautiful? I'm very likely to buy it if it's within my means.

    As someone who is in the midst of completely redoing an outdated wardrobe, your videos are incredibly helpful! I couldn't figure out where I was going wrong but in addition to my outdated style, part of the problem is that the U.S. doesn't seem to have as many wonderful shopping options as other parts of the world. REALLY hoping Arket can start shipping to the U.S. at some point soon!

    • @Kelly-fc1ym
      @Kelly-fc1ym 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@canukmrsben Oh wow- I didn't think it could be worse that what we have here. In the U.S. cheap, poorly made clothes and the luxury brands are easy to find. It's the mid-range quality clothing that I think we're lacking. I found COS via Lydia's channel and I do like some of Uniqlo's clothing although I wouldn't put it in the mid-range category. The U.S. has a trade agreement with Australia so we don't have a limit on what we can import without paying taxes from Australia but there is a limit of $800 USD from the U.K. and France. Sézane is the only brand I've found that has built in import taxes into their prices + they have free shipping over a certain amount and free returns. Other European brands just don't have a way to return items to them without paying international shipping to return the item(s). Maybe write to customer service for the brands you're interested in to see if they have any future plans for Canada so that they know there is interest in their brand there.

    It's interesting to me that I really enjoy watching youtubers with classic style like yourself yet my style is bold color, lots of accessories and variety. In my office days I wore lots of black gray and navy. Now I'm retired living in Florida so I'm drawn to color and prints but I still love the concept of the minimalist classic capsule wardrobe. I just don't see myself doing it now. I'd have to get rid of everything in my closet lol. Definitely struggling to dress my body in my 60s and the casual lifestyle here. Bottom line is Lydia is beautifully slim small waist. I was up to late 40s, beautifully slim, small waist, athletic, fine boned and medium height, like Lydiagreat hair and classic high cheekboned face. At 40 I was 32A bust and 8 Aus which was tiny and everything I put on looked amazing.i was 110 pounds in my 20s to 30. 53kgs in my 40s. I had an English couturier black and gold bomber jacket from 1970 which my small for his 5 year old wore as a perfect fit party jacket. Having been medically tripped and caused asthma with steroids for 17 years I look fine to the fat multitudes around me but am so much heavier, heartbreaking for a clothes lover.

    I loved this video. It spelt out what I probably already could see intuitively and explained why.
    My style of dressing is now making complete sense to me. I'm 57 and as I've got older I've gravitated even more to a more masculine style style of dressing. I love tailoring, especially blazers, shirts, polo shirts, sharp angles, stiff fabrics.
    I now never wear dresses, skirts, anything soft, flowy, draped, floral, embroidered, embellished, pretty or dainty. Somehow all these things make me feel even older, and outfits that may look good on somebody younger just somehow seem to age me even more. I feel prim, prissy and dated.
    Whereas if I wear for instance a tailored trouser suit - wide legs, oversized with a shirt I feel sharp, structured, put together but modern. Cool even.
    When you said 'sharp' it all just fell into place. I knew it all intuititively, but your video helped to explain why. The older I get the more I have to dress 'modern' and the less I can get away with 'traditional'. Whereas somebody much younger can look great in a more traditional style.

    This makes sense, some pieces I like the traditional style like the grey skirt. Others, i like the moderns one, like the loafers, but is helpful to see each and get an idea of how you can make work with what you have already. 💕

    Marvelous presentation, Lydia. I would love to see more of this contrasting concept using more clothing pieces and perhaps how to style traditional vs modern jewelry. It would also be wonderful if you can demonstrate how to mix and match these styles. What are your feelings about double-breasted blazers? Thanks.

    Hi Lydia, I found your channel by watching one of your shorts. I absolutely love your style. In the shorts I watched, you wore a pistachio green silky shirt/blouse/jacket with its own belt. Can you PLEASE tell me where that gorgeous piece is from? Thank you

    I love your channel. I think we could appraciate more your wonderful styling if the wall behind you was beige/taupe like in museums when featuring art. White or black on a white wall makes it how to say, ordinary. Many photographers sware by the rule no white plain background, ever. Thanks for the best tips on YT!

    People are obsessed with this "timeless", "minimalist "old money" aesthetics trends. And they forget that fashion is a self-expression. Your style should represent who you are.

    • @fpopstudio

      I have exactly the same thought. It is not authentic and not you if you are trying to copy a style of a group you are not part of😊

    • @BoringTroublemaker
      @BoringTroublemaker Месяц назад +1

      @@fpopstudio this is a weird comment. People can dress however they want, regardless of whatever “group” they belong to. Your comment seems to imply that people who don’t come from money should stay in their place and “dress poor.” That’s ludicrous.

    • @fpopstudio
      @fpopstudio Месяц назад +1

      @@BoringTroublemaker Amy, of course you and they can, the question is why? Why this obsession to look rich in those neutral no logo, no personality clothes? You have your unique personality, probably a much better one than any old rich girl or boy, so why not count on that and not an expired generation? I was reading a couple of days ago the experience of Garance Dore when she needed to attend an event with these type of people, she wore neutral clothes, bags, so she confidently thought she would fit in only to realise that these ladies were carrying only colourful Kelly’s and jogging clothes because they don’t need to spend money on neutral (which are more expensive btw) to look rich, but she did spend those money only to realise she is not fitting in actually. So, I want you to look wonderful and authentic in your clothes, not poor. It is not only poor or old rich, so many nuances in between

    • @BoringTroublemaker
      @BoringTroublemaker Месяц назад +1

      @@fpopstudio not everyone wants to walk around wearing bright colors and tacky logos all over their clothes. You’re making an assumption that people who dress in neutrals do so because they want to look “rich” when there are a lot of reasons why they might dress that way. That’s pretty presumptuous of you. And no, neutrals aren’t more expensive. Virtually all basics come in neutrals at all budget friendly stores. For plus size women it’s a lot easier to expand your wardrobe by adding beige, white, gray, and navy to the sea of black we have been trained to drape ourselves in, than it is to find a brightly colored print that doesn’t end up making us look dumpy. Frankly, it’s just _easier_ to put together an outfit of neutrals.
      But ultimately the issue is that you aren’t the arbiter of someone else’s authenticity. You don’t get to make that judgment simply because it’s inconceivable to you that someone could choose to fill their wardrobe with clothes that don’t fit in with your personal understanding of what makes _you_ feel comfortable and authentic.

      @BoringTroublemaker Amy, I bet you are beautiful in both neutral and colours and not dumpy. I like to dismantle limiting beliefs and support women feel at their best and unique. That's all!

    Hello Lydia, thank you for your content! I have a question, and would be so grateful if you could come up with some examples. I tend to adopt a classic style, more casual or more sharp according to the circumstances. What I am struggling with though, is that when I dress for slightly more official circumstances (e.g. celebrations for national holidays, end-of-the-year festivities of cultural groups, etc.), I feel that my outfit is not at all youthful and I would really like it to be more fresh. I am 38 and not have a very impressive image. So please can you share your ideas of how to make a classic outfit more fresh? Especially for more formal events - circumstances. Thank you very much!
