As someone who worked in a suede/ leather fashion house during the 80s/90s. I have to advise that it suede needs a ton of waterproofing spray to protect it from dirt and rain. Also it can't stand up to deicing salt. Be very carful when you choose to wear it but with proper care it can last 20+ years and still be beautiful.
I have a brown suede jacket with a classic silhouette that my mom bought me while I was in college in ‘89. She did something to waterproof it but also told me to never wear it in the rain. I’ve lost so many garments since then but I’ve held tightly to my suede jacket. I’ve worn it over the years but it’s awesome that I have a “vintage” piece that is considered trendy now.
I hesitate to get excited, but it seems like the age of the microtrend may be coming to an end! I'm on a low buy year myself so it doesn't really affect me, but I'm happy that people finally got exhausted with the trend cycle and maybe it'll help people buy just a little bit less and more intentionally. I’ve got an 80s brown leather fitted blazer, which I bought around 2011. I wear it a lot in our brief spring & fall seasons, regardless of trends, it always gets a lot of compliments, and now the paisley lining is retro lol… Classics that you genuinely love just look amazing.

One of my favorite garments. I also had a gorgeous black leather jacket from that time but it’s a bit tight. I’ll be wearing my suede again this fall with joy.
Love all of these. Suede, leather, and corduroy are my fall staples for textures. I love burgundy, sage green (olive is too warm for me), chocolate brown, plum, and mauve for fall colors.
Anyone else stoked that these trends are trending and that means we can find lots of our favorite things that we love already? That's another way to look at it. The thrift store is going to be a treasure trove for us.

It's a reminder that if I've tried it before, I don't need to try it again just because it's being talked about 😊
These are definitely classics, not trends. I wonder how much of this has to do with the economic state- everyone is too broke to go out shopping for more so they’re just relying on their “old faithful” classic styles.
Also more people are rejecting fast fashion because of its environmental and human rights problems, so they rely more on classic pieces/thrifting to fill their wardrobes 😊 which I love
I appreciate that the "trends" over the whole last year are much more low-key as I haven't been interested in shopping for awhile and can easily put together a current-looking outfit with my moderately stocked closet.
@@ColleenJoudrey agree, I'm tired of extreme trends, I rarely participate. A lot of this is going back to the original preppy style which is just high quality, good fitting basics.

I am finding myself stocking up on all the chocolate brown as we have been starved of this glorious colour for so long and I have this fear that it will be yanked away again at any moment! I will be rocking my chocolate brown and burgundy well after the trend has passed so definitely a classic for me.
Love this! Agree with your assessment, these are not trends, but I am loving wearing my chocolate brown suede blazer I have had for fifteen years, and my burgundy pieces! Feel better soon, thanks for doing this!
I am a sixty-something woman and I've always loved suede, bomber jackets, slim jeans (never ever wore skinny or low waist jeans). I don't care if anybody would tell me that all of these are "out for 2024". You are so right about trends and marketing : the sooner we understand that, the sooner we will wear what we love and above all, what suits us better. This gave me some good inspiration on how to tap into my closet with what I already have for the non-trend trends. I'm still thinking about that "cherry cola" burgundy bag, too! Also, thank you for showing pictures of all shapes and body sizes. Much appreciated! Hope you feel better!
My take is "Screw trends. I wear the clothes that I have that fit me and if I need anything new, get what I like." I will wear my burgundy clothes as well as my cherry red clothes, too.
I love chocolate brown. As an autumn color type it's my black. So sick of one season wonders. I'm glad to see wearable and classic pieces be 'trendy'. The silhouettes and the colors are definitely my cup of tea.
I agree, most of these trends are perennial autumn staples! Sometimes its more about the mix, and the styling rather than the pieces themselves. The way I see trends is that when something is trending it makes it easier to add pieces I've been searching for over a period of time. This works for both new and second hand (I'm more likely to sell a piece I'm unsure of if its on trend!). This year I've finally found the cardigan to pair with my burgundy pieces - the one I've found is more of a dark red than burgundy, but this just makes it more wearable. It's the only piece I'll be adding that buys into the burgundy "trend". As for suede, I already have suede items. The same with denim and I'll be styling my coats differently with my scarves. Chocolate brown doesnt fit with my style, so I wont be tempted there.
You’re too funny! I get most of it is classic, but didn’t really have any burgundy or suede in my wardrobe. Fun to thrift suede. So much good stuff out there! I added a couple burgundy sweaters as well. Great color! Why haven’t I worn? I’ve got enough leopard to last me forever. 😂 My adult kids would think I’d lost my mind if I wore anything sheer. 😂The rest I’m all good with already.
I have some blazers and trousers pants I plan on getting tailored to. E slightly more fitted later this month. Still keeping some oversized but think it will be fun to use things I have already and switch up the structure vs buying more
100% agree! I have a burgundy bag from 4/5 years ago that's this exact color! Shape is also timeless (and I've never stopped wearing it!). Also, so many rich red bags on sale in the resale market because it's no longer the "it" color I guess? I snagged the most amazing oversized clutch on The Real Real! Buying when things are "mo longer cool" is very underrated!
90% of the suede examples here are reminding me of 2001-2005 fashion. But I also love it! Love the Canadian tuxedo too, I just thrifted NWT denim Ugg boots and am gonna pair them with all of the denim this fall.
Agree 100%, Christina. These are all classics in my view. I recently bought a cheap fast-fashion piece (have been primarily using thrift and consignment stores for a while, so this was unusual for me). It's a fluffy pleated midi in dark leopard print. The overlayer of print is also fairly sheer, so it is SO much more trendy than 90% of everything I buy. But it's fun and I'll use it enough to get my money's worth.
Another great video! Love the suggestions and that we probably already have lots of timeless pieces. I'm looking for espresso brown now! xxoo Hope you feel better.
I’ve just had my colour done and I’m a deep autumn, and this season the colours are bang on trend with my colour season. I’m lusting after it all😍 I’ve been wearing these colours for years though. So like many other comments I want to stock up because they haven’t been the focus for a couple of seasons.
I want to get my colors done, I had them done years again and was an autumn. I am sure it is the same now. I have been trying to look online to find a reseasonably priced fabric book to do it myself but they are so expensive.
What a refreshing seasonal trends video. I like the nudge to use what we have in our closets, the few ways we can adapt using our own wardrobes. Might be a good video for us to see what you already have in your personal wardrobe and what outfits you can make to show some of this season's trends.
Lots of great ideas! Thank you. This was fun. I totally agree, leather and suede jackets (and boots too) never go away...and i always look forward to them in the fall. ha. Hope you feel better dear!!!!!☕☕☕☕
So agree! Classics are “trendy” when economy is more scary to consumers. I always have a wine or cranberry top and coordinating scarf for fall and winter. I bought a beautiful new cashmere pullover from llbean in Bordeaux to replace a worn out rayon knit in cranberry. My berry/wine silk scarf goes with the new cashmere perfectly. I bought a grey tone leopard print silk scarf years ago- comes out every fall winter. I loved this video!❤hope you feel better soon.
I always enjoy your content, thanks for making it even though you were sick! It really confirmed for me that I have nothing to shop for this season because I already own all the seasonal classics lol.
Loved this video! ❤️ I got a pair of oxblood ankle boots last year and the only thing I've picked up for this fall (so far) has been a burgundy handbag. I've had a barn jacket for several years and I wear it in the cooler months. I agree, though, all of these "trends" are pretty much classics! Thanks for powering through the video with your sore throat! ❤
I always love and appreciate you content, Christina. Thanks for being such a fab inspiration for us all. We are lucky you choose to share your life and tips, and amazing stype with us all. Love you longtime, girly! XO
Christina I am so so so glad that I Have Found your RUclips Channel and your contents are just wonderful and I will always be your big supportive🤗🤗♥️♥️
I found your channel yesterday and subscribed. Over the years, I’ve mostly purchased high quality items. But I’ve maintained a significant weight loss. I had some things altered, but I also replaced some items with lower quality pieces. What a waste of money and resources! Adding to this, within the past year, my feet are a half size larger. (Legit, I measured my feet.) I’d rather have fewer high quality pieces. I took a brutal look yesterday, and cleaned out my closet and shoe/boot collection with a large stack to donate to the local humane society thrift store. I’m not going to wear uncomfortable clothes or shoes again. I love fall styles, so it’s a good time to invest in a few pieces. Thanks for your informative videos! I’m doing a deep dive into your content. Oh, and I lift weights, too. 😊
I always wear red, stripes, black and navy. I don’t even intentionally buy these colours but the red always needs a blue undertone to be exciting in contrast to my warm skin tone. In truth I actually hate watch trend videos…I never get much usable advice from them because they often just switch between several variations of the same thing. Like you said, things I probably already own. What I do enjoy watching are things like dressing for your personality or how to use your current wardrobe. I even watched the Emily in Paris costume designer discuss their choices and they were so logical after she spoke about them. If anything I’m influenced by film and television outfits. P.s. Thank you for using a diverse range of models in this video
It is so entertaining to see "trends" that were just more popular styles earlier in my life. I like what I like & incorporate it, "trend" or not. I just regifted locally, a denim barn coat that my Mom gave me upwards of twm years ago...thrifted & with more life! Thanks, Christina. Recover soon from your cold...sick sux. 😊❤
Your video was very helpful to me. Thank you so much! I never knew how to even attempt being stylish until this last year. One thing that holds me back is the fear of something just being trendy. I honestly don’t know what is Classic so your video meant a lot to me. Thanks!
I love what is trending right now as it applies to me colouring and body shape so happier to shop now than last year. Loving the burgundy, sheer layers and the hourglass tailoring ❤ And I love a leopard print scarf/ belt too
So correct! Red and brown for autumn, every year. Wow, the shock, the novelty...... I will be surprised if I ever see pink or blue trending for this season. Get better soon, loved your video
Part of why I've always found it difficult to follow trends in the first place is because social media has enabled consumers to whiz through them so fast. I feel like every other week is a "hot new trend." And like you said, much of it is just straight-up marketing for whatever new product. I've fallen for it before, and I'm glad I follow you now because your videos are a healthy reminder to slow down and appreciate what I already have.
I am excited to wear my burgundy NYDJ jeans I bought back in 2015. As well as a burgundy chunky Akris turtleneck bought a few years ago. TBH I have never stopped wearing the sweater, but now I'm participating in a trend with no effort on my part. Ha.
thanks Christina. ya “cherry cola” is a red that has too much black in it for my warm, clear, fair, blonde coloring. I look better in that red sweater you often wear but are unsure of. 😂 the warm reds! - burgundy it does nothing for me. Also I prefer a bag that is harmonious and matches my hair colour. Or a bag in a pop of color that is part of my colors that suit me. currently i love my forrest green bag by Monsur Gavriel - and it’s really fun to mix greens so i wear the forest green with olive green. 🎉 same with “chocolate “ brown. it’s too dark for me. I prefer a pecan or warmer dark camel. Those are way better - i think people need to know their colors and find shades that work best for them.
I agree! I feel like nowadays “trend/trending” gets thrown around so much that stuff we’ve been wearing seasonally for many years gets caught in the mix🌚
Great video. Thanks. When I was a freshman or sophomore in high school, my classmate had a sister who was a senior, which automatically made her a very big deal in my eyes. One day, I saw her in the hallway, and she was wearing a burgundy skirt and cardigan with a pink blouse. I thought it was the most beautiful, sophisticated outfit I had ever seen. This would have been the mid-1960s, so yes, whether it's trends or classics, they seem to repeat themselves over and over and over and over.
I 100% agree. This year has been looking very different for me since I’m unemployed, and fall fashion is my favorite. I was nervous to see what’s trending this year since I can’t really invest in new trends this year, but when I saw some videos saying burgundy is in, chocolate brown is in, leather and warm tones. I was like ummm 🤔 either I was 20 years in advanced or what? Doesn’t everyone know that you wear warm things in the fall? Like you’ll never hear someone says pastels and florals are in for fall lol so it’s common sense to know these things. Thank you for the reminder, we all don’t need to follow a trend.
I think something can be more than one thing at the same time. In this case, it can be both a classic or a fall staple AND a trend. In my perspective, “trendy” means something is popular with the masses in the moment. I like to distinguish something being innovative vs it being trendy. I think there is space to appreciate it all in any case. Thanks for your content!
I love the burgundy, chocolate brown and greens that are trending but they are classic fall colors and I wear them every fall/winter because they are colors that look good on me. Black tends to look harsh on my light coloring so these colors work better for me. Nothing new here except that there will be more choice in these colors this fall. By the way, I think your hair looks great in this video!
Hi Christina, excellent blog!🤗 Even with the sore throat🤧 I am loving burgundy this year and managed to find a really lovely pair of Clarks (really comfy) low ankle boots in burgundy suede with burgundy leather in snake texture on the back of the ankle with a kitten heel, on E Bay, they looked brand new still in the box, sold by a charity so win win! I also love the chocolate brown "trend" having bought some trousers a couple of years ago in that colour. I'm not too sure of leopard print, I think less is definitely more, but I do have a very old pair (but in good condition) snake print shoes that I think I will be digging out of my closet! 🤫😊 I do hope you feel better soon!
Always look forward to your Sunday uploads. Thought it was just me that everything is so darned obvious rn...here in the UK it's raining and steadily getting colder. I don't like suede or brown but have reds, leopard print and scarves agogo. Get well soon!
I’m on holiday in Scotland, it hasn’t rained once, blue sky and sunshine since leaving rainy England on Thursday. It’s not often you can head north for the better weather. I didn’t bring any suede to wear tho.
Excellent points. Especially in this economy we need to shop our closets and be strategic about what we buy- if anything. Mixing classics in a personal way ensures we can express ourselves without wasting money on so called fast fashion.
I trifted a burgundy colored tote yesterday and that is my nodd to the trend this fall. The shape is classic and I can and will use the bag for work and errands every year going forward. Im still on the hint for kitten heel knee highs but thats been a 2 year search so thoae i may have to buy new 😢.
So glad you're aware of this. I'm 52 and like to incorporate trends into my wardrobe. However, this year when the "trends" reports started hitting social media/bogs, my first thought was...so it's CLASSICS! Back to the basic classics. Yep! Nothing new here. Guess that's a good thing because I didn't have to purchase anything new. Maybe it's my age and nothing really seems new to me, but I just had to chuckle at this year.
I like how you said Christina that you wouldn’t necessarily buy burgundy clothing but you’d do the trend in nail colour or a bag 💼 I think burgundy makeup 💄 is also beautiful for fall time love your videos Christina hope you get well soon ❤️🩹
Watched another video about how the trend predictions aren’t even trends anymore, and nothing is actually trending. I feel like t’s just marketing staples that have always been seasonal as trends to get people to but things they probably already have. Like she said, things like suede have always been a designated choice for fall because what other time of year can you even wear that material in most places? Winter/Spring are usually too snowy/rainy to wear it. I half expect articles to declare that the next new winter trend is wool & cashmere. I think it’s nice that the items are classics but it really feels like a ploy for our attention and to resell us on classics that we saw every year for the past decade yet never wanted to buy til now.
What do you think? Are these trends? What “nods” are you planning to add to your wardrobe this season? 🍂

This gave me some good inspiration on how to tap into my closet with what I already have for the non-trend trends. I'm still thinking about that "cherry cola" burgundy bag, too! Also, thank you for showing pictures of all shapes and body sizes. Much appreciated! Hope you feel better!
Yayyy so glad Lisa!! ❤❤ thank you! 🍵
This season's "trends" are made for me! These have been my staple faves for years and years.
This is such good advice and info. Appreciate all the work that went into it.
"Everything it says on the tin!" Couldn't agree more.
Thank you for your realistic take on seasonal Trends
I have some blazers and trousers pants I plan on getting tailored to. E slightly more fitted later this month. Still keeping some oversized but think it will be fun to use things I have already and switch up the structure vs buying more
Terrific video Christina! Thanks for putting things in perspective and getting me to shop my closet!
Loving the chocolate brown 🤎
Also think sheer has never really been "out". We can see it since the 90s!
Sooo true! That’s a good idea - buying into the “trend” on clearance! Like cmon AS IF red goes out of style!
whenever you don't see a colour in fashion for many years it is going to make a comback soon. Fashion is planned obsolesance.
90% of the suede examples here are reminding me of 2001-2005 fashion. But I also love it!
Love the Canadian tuxedo too, I just thrifted NWT denim Ugg boots and am gonna pair them with all of the denim this fall.
Amazing! ❤
I thrifted a suede jacket and I absolutely love it
Agree 100%, Christina.
I'm looking for espresso brown now! xxoo Hope you feel better.
aaaand..this is reason why people like to watch Christina's videos... bravo girl

I loved this , lots of great ideas I can use for the fall ! 🍂🍁 great job 👏 such beautiful colors and textures ! I love your layered necklaces ! ❤
Glad you enjoyed Michele!
Love love your insight and the way you deconstructed the fall trends. 😊
Great video! So much of this I already own because I kept things around since 2000 and have a few heirlooms from my grandma that fit these „trends“.
Love the chocolate brown trend
Thank you Christina! It was a good video as always))
Thank you!!! Lots of tea happening over here haha
@@Christinamychas aww yep. I understand!💕💕
I’m loving your longer hair! 🫶🏾
I am loving the trends this year. I was just looking at burgundy handbags!

You are lovely! Thx for your videos ❤ send you love from Spain
Love burgundy, hate chocolate brown, personally 😂 The capes, leather jackets and suede sound really cool!
I agree and love how you presented this information. I do these colors every fall
Loving the burgundy, sheer layers and the hourglass tailoring ❤
And I love a leopard print scarf/ belt too
I love that the models that you show are so divers! ❤️ Great video!
I was surprised to see a lot of designers had a wide array of models in their shows.
Those are classics for sure! Thanks for the video and please get well soon!
Great one!
I am excited to wear my burgundy NYDJ jeans I bought back in 2015. As well as a burgundy chunky Akris turtleneck bought a few years ago. TBH I have never stopped wearing the sweater, but now I'm participating in a trend with no effort on my part. Ha.
For us here in Sweden I always have suede in spring as fall is to rainy and muddy… love this and agree with you!
thanks Christina. ya “cherry cola” is a red that has
too much black in it for my warm, clear, fair, blonde coloring. 🎉
same with “chocolate “ brown. it’s too dark for me. I prefer a pecan or warmer dark camel. Those are way better - i think people need to know their colors and find shades that work best for them.
I am a green mixer too!!! PS even my eyes are green..ha ha
It is crazy to know be old enough to see trends coming back around! I am almost 48.
They are all in my closet, except a barn jacket. Love the colors!
I am loving the colors too!
They can not make my pear shaped self go back to tapered at the ankle pants !!!
You and me both, sister!
Great video ❤
Also, I agree they are basic, and very wearable!! I don't think they're trendy I agree with what you said!! 🌻🍂🍁
Fabulous video!😍 I agree they seem more “classic” than “trend”
Agree. It almost seems like we are just swinging to be a little more structured after years of informal.
Girl you’re so right what ever you say are exactly what I be thinking love ya
I think it’s nice that the items are classics but it really feels like a ploy for our attention and to resell us on classics that we saw every year for the past decade yet never wanted to buy til now.
lol yes exactly! wool and cashmere for winter will be groundbreaking 😂
Great video. I think burgundy is a classic color and I also like grey.
I agree with you, those are classics!! Get well soon!!!
