I was involved with the Aerocatch latches right from the start and made all of the tooling for them right here in the UK. I can tell you that the materials used for the genuine UK made branded Aerocatch are the highest quality available anyway on earth, they are expensive because of this; the plastic moulded material used is actually a metal replacement, that is how good the genuine ones are! These cheap crappy lookalike knockoffs are a complete waste of your time, money and effort, avoid them at all costs...I promise you that you will be glad that you did!
I had my hood fly up and smash my front window. I started looking for hood pins/latches to ensure this doesn't happen again. This video just saved me from buying a mistake, and probably saved my life and whatever passengers may be riding with me.
@@TheSundaeDrive Yeah, it was a big "wham!" And then I couldn't see where I was going and had a smashed windscreen luckily no one else hit me when I had to slow and pull to the side and that I was going in a straight line at the time, otherwise I'd probably be a goner
Heads up!! Dont use these cheap aerocatch knockoffs if you dont want your hood to fly off and damage your car. Spend the money because the cheap ones fail and fall apart. Theres a video showing this if you dont believe me. The aerocatch are made by a reputable British company that makes many products for racing, marine,and aerospace. They test their products. They are motorsports proven to be safe and reliable. The pin and bolt hold the hood secure, but as your driving the faster you go the greater the force on the plastic areas. If you study the design, its clear that the stress is great on the top lip of the plastic part where it bolts to the hood.
I appreciate you doing this video. I have been looking into aero catch and of course I stumbled on these in my search. The comments are steering me away. But without this video I wouldn’t of known till i wasted time and money!
I bought the cheap ones, at 1st they looked good but 3 days later one of them started acting up, a pin inside the mechanism started coming off making it difficult to shut the latch down, 1 day wen I was driving on the freeway the latch that was actually working gave up, the hood (carbon fiber) slammed into my windshield n u can imagine the rest, the cheapest AeroCatch latches came out to $65. Had I spent $35-$40 more for the good ones I would have saved money on my windshield n the roof rack that the hood damaged cuz of the poor quality latches
That sucks man! In our case, we don't have to worry about the hood flying off but I definitely would never use these on a car. They are way too flimsy now that I've had my hands on them
The only thing I would be concerned about is that that you have to cut away a lot of material for these. The better brands don't have you cut away as much
LMAO to be fair even Aerocatch themselves say their product is NOT SAFE without an oem hood latch and is recommended by them to keep your stock latch while using their own product, let alone a knockoff. they are plastic... aero; fake or not, are not designed well enough to hold your hood on tight at highway speeds.

The aero catch have a base that goes on the inside of the hood. The base and the latch sandwich the hood with the screws...

Usually if the pins get jammed up its because it's under too much tension. If you push the hood up or down a little bit, it should unstick it.

The close edge don't matter. In order for the hood to fly off, the plastic lock has to pass through the hole, which is impossible. 🤷♀️
