6 years later, this video is still very helpful. i'm about to install hoodpins, i have the oval style, but now i'm considering the round ones ur talking about. i think i'm sold. opening the hood once really changed my mind. thank you!
The original hood pins, or slide pins, should ALWAYS be used on muscle cars. Back in the day, Cudas, Mustangs, and Camaros, just to name a few, featured these pins. Use whatever you want, but keep in mind the look and purpose of your ride.
I installed slide pins in 05 on my 05. And would do it again. I like being able to SEE that the locks are actually in place. Thats just me, and both others seem to require a bit more fabrication.
That makes sense. 👍🏼 On both others, you can tell they are engaged by the position of the pin as well. The Aero’s will be down when they are engaged & the center of the QuikLatch will pop up & be flush with the other ring.
@@hawkeyestiguy so then you just made up a negative and your only real reason you dont like them is looks. But when it came to safety the pin and being able to see that the hood is secure (reason to have these is safety not looks). And your BS you posted elsewhere about you using them on a stock hood because of flex at high speed LMAO....
Awesome, great to hear! Thanks for doing this research so I don't have to. I'll be getting some Quik Latch. Currently building an ARA rally car and hood pins and disabling the footwell release lever are a series regulation (presumably so if the car catches on fire, they can open the hood without needing entry into the car)
Very informative video, I have not bought the carbon fiber hood I want, because I hate retro hood pins, in my research I found your video and it answers all my questions, so thank you for taking time to make it. I’ll check more of your stuff out.
I went with aero catch because I had to delete my factory latch (packaging, it’s a small engine bay), and it’s the positive lock, and QL themselves saying they recommend you retain the factory latch, that made me go aerocatch
Have you experienced that? I live in the north eastern US. We have bad winters sometimes, & I've never experienced that. I just keep them lubricated with WD-40. 👍🏻
I know this is an older video, but i needed to correct you on your researched information you imply. I have aero catch latches whilst still running the factory latch and i don't know if people install them wrong or not, but you can pull the bonnet/hood cable to pop it without having to unlatch the bonnet pins first. I just pop the hood go to the front and pop the pins and lift whilst releasing the factory secondary catch.
Isn’t the point of the hood latches existence to give the hood the ability to be opened without using the factory latch. I can see for a normal street car keeping the factory latch there, but I think track cars have the factory latch removed or disconnected.
Not necessarily. At least that isn't the main reason. Their primary function is to prevent the hood from flying up. Carbon & fiberglass hoods have the hood latch molded in, but they can come loose over time & separate from the hood. In many race applications, the OEM hood latch is removed/not used, but the main reason for hood pins is to make sure the hood doesn't come loose at high speeds. 👍🏻
I can guarantee you that your hood on your close to stock sti will never get loose with the stock latch, and what the hell is the point of a QUIK latch if you have to open 2 more latches in adition to the stock one. in your case the quik latch is adding second to none funcsion. It woul be much better to get a locking latch and eliminate the stock one
Ruben Ostli I never said my stock hood would come loose. My STi is far from stock, but I assume you were talking about the stock hood. I decided to add latches to help reduce hood flex during high speeds & high winds. If you look at how they operate, they really aren't any harder to open than a factory hood which is why I specifically chose to go with Quik-Latches over slide pins or Aerocatch.
Hood Pins/Latches are designed from a racing safety perspective. Let’s say you are on a track in first place and your hood gets air lifted. You crash because you panic hitting the brakes and lose the race. Hood pins add extra support from your hood just lifting off. You could also not close your hood correctly and your hood could air lift. Just imagine you not closing your hood correctly after checking your oil, being on the highway and your hood pops up breaking your windshield. It happens, not often but it does.
I use Aerocatch with the locks (uses a key) on my Seibon Carbon Fiber CW-II. I don't know if the quick latches were available at the time or not (honestly didn't know about them until your bumper video), but wanted the locking ability since it was an expensive hood and to make sure the hood wouldn't fly up. The CW-II hood has a bigger hoodscoop than stock so I was worried it would have more drag and strain on the stock latch. I had a shop install the hood and latches, I don't think i'd ever install aerocatch on my own, especially not on CF. They do mention to grease the latches, but I think i've sprayed them with WD40 three times in the 5 years I've had the hood on the car. Car went through northeastern road salt too and they still hold up great!
Honestly I think it just comes down to preference. While the quick latch would be cool, I went with the aerocatch. Price was a factor but also the look. I like what they give. Imo. Cant go wrong with either quick latch or aerocatch.
So I have the QL 50, I do love them so far. They look great. I just have to remount my hood latch as I got a new hood. So haven’t tested out them fully yet. Great video very informative. I had the slide pin style and hated the extra step to unlatch them.
@@rybalchenkofamily it’s not about being lazy. It’s about the inconvenience of it. You get out unlatch it , go back in pull the hood latch then come back out to open the hood. With these I pulls the hood latch get out push and open. Convenience and they look nicer as well
well yer intro here sits pretty well with me. let me just say im here because i want to buy hood pins and im doing my homework before i buy anything. cheers mate
I love my retro pin on my Audi. A challenge installing, but fun experience. First was a lock pin, but kept vibrating and flying off! Now I have a slide pin with a small pad lock, since the latch is inoperable.
Maybe you could point out the point where I told everyone they needed to buy QuikLatch? Oh yeah, I didn’t. 🙄 Buy whatever pins you want dude. It’s like you can’t discern the very basic difference between comparing a product to other products & telling people what to buy. Smh.
@@hawkeyestiguy just saying u made the pins u have on your car one sided really like u can pop the bonnet first with the other pins but ok dude what ever u say 😂😂
@@supermoto7368 Seriously? That’s it? You’re such a drama queen. Lol. The entire video was showing the pros & cons of different types of latches & at no point did I tell anyone they needed to buy QuikLatch. Lol. I hope you can get over this & move on with your life. Lol.
I was looking at the Quik Latch. But I don't want to keep my factory latch. There's a reason race cars without latches typically use slide pins. I'm definitely not trusting a bit of plastic, so aerocatch is out. There is a company that sells recessed buckets for slide pins. That is a pretty cool look that also addresses the sleekness. Think that's the way I'm going.
I agree. I think they are going to catch on & be as big as Aerocatch, if not bigger. For racing applications, it's all function & looks don't matter, but for most restoration projects, daily drivers, project cars, ect., especially the high end cars, people don't want huge plastic latches on their hoods & body panels.
Again, depends on your ride. If you have an older muscle car, or even newer muscle car, the Hotchkiss or Shelby slide hood pins would look better (though "better" is ALWAYS a personal opinion) and more natural for the car. But you rock what you want, you paid for both!
Thanks for this Video. Before seeing this I had already bought an AeroCatch set. The which I sold after seeing your review. I now waiting on my order of Quick-Latch Set. Bought the black one too.
Probably about the same honestly. I don’t have stats for either in front of me, but both are solid, track-proven options. Neither of them will break on you.
I completely agree, an awesome video. Sold me on quik latch. I'm pushing 580 whp and I'm iffy on the CF hood coming up on me, so for peace of mind I'm going for it.
First: subbed cause subie love 😂 Second: great vid, first of yours I’ve seen Third: I’ve been eyeing those QL-38’s in black cerekote, cause I wanna hide them a little bit on my sleeper forester build
Where did you acquire those racks in the background ?I have searched everywhere. Great Video by the way. Thanks for sharing all your hard work. I need those racks in my life, had them before on a previous job. Love them

I believe so. You'd probably need to modify the hole/placement, and may need to do some patchwork. Maybe not, probably depends on your hood, what pins you had prior, and how/where they are mounted.
Sam C Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! I’ve been working about 12-15 hours a day, so I haven’t been able to post for a while, but I’m hoping to put out more vids once things slow down a little. 👍🏻
Great video! I've seen slide pins and Aerocatch on race cars, why do you think slide pins would still be used? I think I will be going with Quick-latch for my build.
Security. Slide pins don't pop loose. QL has the potential to lose grip and come loose. That's why they tell you to keep the factory latch. Race cars don't always have hood latches, so they need something that won't fail.
I had to remove my factory latch due to placement of my oil cooler and going with the slide pins. Does anyone know if they are safe for high speed roll racing?
Correct. Guys use them on legit race cars all the time. They are rated for hundreds of pounds. Link to the website should be in the description, pretty sure they have the ratings & data from their testing there. 👍🏼
What about from a security/Anti-Theft stand point? Quik-latch vs Aerocatch? its not possible to keep a thief out of your cabin but locking them out of the bonnet is my main concern.
One: awesome video and thank you for doing this...we think very similarly. Your video is pretty much a detailed account of everything I have done and the conclusions I have come to. Two: It's a year later so no fault there but they now have the QL-25 that you see on front bumpers
I read a complaint from a user on a forum that that these hood pins can get rather difficult to unlatch after some time. Have you noticed any additional effort is needed to push the button to release the pin or other concerns since your installation? Does Quik-Latch provide any recommendations for keeping the locking mechanism clean and functioning properly or when they should be replaced? I would not want to be in a situation where I am not able to open my hood once these latches get some age.
I have noticed that sometimes there can be tension on the pins, which can make them difficult to unlacth, but it's nothing major. They can be readjusted to get rid of this issue. Also, I noticed that if I pop one side before the other, it can create tension & cause them to bind, so you just have to be mindful of things that can create tension. I don't think it's much of an issue though. I don't regret installing them at all.
If you look around on youtube, you'll find a guy that used quicklatch pins and they failed rather spectacularly, and totaled a really nice car as a result (the hood came back and crushed his roof line). The guy in question is in Scotland, and his car is (was) orange. Search for "quicklatch hood pin fail". There's another one where they failed on a rally car ("Hood Pin Fail - Rally Colorado") during a rally event. No f*ckin way I'd put them on my car.
What would look the best on a carbon fiber hood as far as the quick latch ones go? There are only 3 options obviously so my choices are limited. Any suggestions? Black would blend them into the hood I think and the polished and the machined will stand out a lot more.
Depends on the look you want, either would look great. If you want to show them off, go with polished. If you want them to be low key & be less noticed, go with black. Can't go wrong wither way in my opinion.
Corrosion factors are not assumed by materials touching similar materials but are affected by the environment cause of corrosion like soapy solvents or salts seen in modern deicers especially Halite seen in chemistry 103. Quick latch is a great secondary latch option but not a primary. One thing to always cover is that aside from aesthetics and ease of use is first safety. Many Kids rely on youtube these days and they mostly rely on internet data for mechanical ability especially when filling the forward spaces in their bumper area with intercoolers they likely try to remove the factory latch assembly. Good informative video on your opinion and pros and cons. BUT please stress safety.
I am not responsible for anyone modifying their car in any way shape or form. I do not foresee Quik-Latch failing as they are designed to be used on legit race cars & can withstand more that 300lb of force each, IIRC. I am not anybody's dad & I'm not here to spoon feed anyone. Always mod responsibly, but if anyone jacks something up, I'm not responsible. Lol.
Neomanis Kennedy Not that I know of. All pins that I have seen are visible from the outside. The Quik-Latches are probably the most discreet, but are still noticeable. I suppose you could modify the underside of the hood to allow for a secondary OEM-style latch with a cable or something that would work in conjunction with the standard latch.
There are 2 main reasons. 1. In many racing applications, they are required for safety in the event that the OE latch should fail. 2. Most/all carbon fiber & fiberglass hoods have the latches molded into them which can fail over time and at high speeds, so it's for security there as well. Installing mine on my OE hood was not necessary, but I like the aesthetics and the added support they give. At high speeds my hood would flex a bit as it is aluminum.
Thanks. I hate my big old-school flashy pins. (I'm trying for a very stealthy sleeper and they just scream "I have serious mods!") I'm totally looking at those push button jobs.
Dave Martin You have nothing better to do than troll? This is getting old, Dave. Why not build your Camero & post more vids rather than troll so you can get more than 120 subs? Smh.
Ha. Dude. I could care less if I had zero subscribers. I’m not trying to have RUclips fame. I work on my car every week for 18 years so relax about that too. I don’t need to feel liked by the world by posting a video every time I do some work on it. Also. It’s spelled camaro not camero. Some car guru you are; can’t even spell camaro correctly. Go plaster some more ricer plastic crap all over your car . It looks awful.
@@hawkeyestiguy that is NOT a typo. it is exactly the same spelling mistake that so many non-car guys make when trying to spell camaro. I was 15 years old when I bought it and began working on it; why do you ask.
Dave Martin Ok, Dave, well I am not other “non-car guys” & to say that a single typo has anything to do with the car related content I create is utterly asinine. There are plenty of assumptions I could make about you based on the actions of other people who also own Camaro’s...but that too would be asinine. It’s much easier just to let you talk & put your own ignorance on display for everyone to see. Your argument attacking my intellect is pretty weak, especially when you can’t even capitalize your sentences... or the word *Camaro*. 🙄 I was curious how long you’ve been working on your car because I figured you were either pretty young & had nothing better to do but troll on the internet-or you were a middle-aged man who had nothing better to do but troll on the internet. Unfortunately, it seems like you are much closer to being the latter... So, I guess I just have to live with the fact that I have a 33 year-old man with an ‘87 Camaro who wets his knickers anytime someone misspells the name of the great & mighty Camaro. **Achievement unlocked** Listen, you seem like a half-way nice guy when you’re not going out of your way to be an ass. You clearly appreciate cars, yet you try to shit on other car guys. Your rhetoric is what is wrong with the car culture. Do you see me trash talking your car or laughing about your slipping transmission? No. Because that is dumb. You posted a stupid comment on my video talking trash about what battery I’m running in my “pretend racecar,” correction -> *daily driver* then you’re trying to be a wise-ass on this video about hood pins. I guess I’m just dumbfounded that there are actually still people out there who want to have ‘domestics vs. imports’ pissing contest. Well, Dave, you can piss down your own leg, ‘cause I’m out.
so my Mercedes to open the hood got mess up and I don't want to put it back would a hood pin work to keep it in place to not open and what is the best for it
It really should be repaired properly, and the latch should be replaced if damaged. Hood pins may work, but if the hood is messed up, that can cause issues with alignment of the pins and even put uneven stress on them.
Dude... standard slide pin kits have been around for AT LEAST 60 years... so "pretty sure that early in 2000s" and your comment about Fast & Furious popularizing hood pins is kinda hilarious in an accurate context. Gives off millenial vibes of "AC/DC is so cool" our generation must have invented this... "Why do old people where our favorite brand shirts... God!"
I never once said hood pins were invented in the 2000s, what video did you watch? & yes, the first Fast film did largely bring them into the mainstream where people started putting them on their bone stock cars--nothing I said was inaccurate. What are you even ranting about & bringing generation stuff up out of nowhere for? Sounds like you're projecting...you definitely sound a little bitter to me. 😂
Also, what old guy listens to that 'Stacy's Mom' music video? Or you just like lusting over younger women you can't have? Wild considering you want to talk about "millenials" when you have millennial music vids in your "Music Jam". *Can't even make this crap up* 😂
Thanks! Yeah, I started shooting in 2.7k with my Hero 5. I still rendered it in 1080, but I'm experimenting with higher resolutions. I have been shooting my vids at 60fps for a while now, but RUclips doesn't always show that it's 60fps for some reason.
Really, who wants to hide the hood pins? SMH Quick L are cool for bumbers and... Besides, does a ball shape can hold on, better than slide pins. That's physics. Any way I think this is just JDM guys point of view. 👍
You’re saying that quick latches don’t need extra steps to open your hood, when in fact it’s the same. Unlatch your factory latch and then unlatch the hood pin! In fact, it’s that way with any fucking hood pin system! So this point is moot on any of the pros or cons!
Mike Simmons I drive an STi, all of which have only ever been offered in manual transmission. 🙄 Have a seat junior, you clearly don’t have the credentials to be calling out anyone else for not being a real “car guy.”
The point of hood pins is actually supposed to be a safety feature to keep your hood from flying off when you reach higher speeds, which a factory lock sometimes isn't that secure.
Pretty much anyone over the age of 30 can drive a manual and probably have owned one at one point in their life. They are lesser value than autos and just old tech...doesn't mean anyone is or isnt a car person just because they dont have to push in a clutch to start and shift anymore than someone who has A/C, fuel injection, or a vehicle that doesnt have a hand crank on their ride....its just new tech. I would only buy a car with a standard transmission if brand spanking new. People tend to want to redline every gear and you dont really know how worn the engine and transmission is worn out....not so much with an auto.
@@jdigitalseven7 manuals are rare and more expensive in my area. I have no idea why. Probably because barely anyone buys them lol (problem for shipping one in if your a dealer). Also, they maybe more expensive for the older ones, because people think they are cooler, so they get more demand value from rarity. I own a manual and an auto, and I have both built up. Auto shifts faster. Stick gives you more control.
Ruben Ostli I wasn't aware of that. Can you please provide a link? Thanks. I have only seen the plastic latches. The threaded stud can be had in either aluminum or steel, but I was talking about the latch itself.
Everything you stated is just your opinion, and you've cited no tangible reasons why one style of hood pin is "better" than any other. There are only two styles by the way - slide-pin and ball. The slide-pin style has a number of sub-categories, and which one you buy depends entirely on how much money you want to spend. How much money you spend dictates the quality and materials used. Cheap $12 pins you get from Autozone are going to be all steel (which will eventually rust). Up a notch ($25 or so), and you at least get stainless pins and lock rings. Go up to the $50 range, and you get aluminum, and of course AeroCatch which are $75 and up. If you wanna spend way too much, you can get Shelby or Hotchkiss pins ($100-150), but they are actually no better at retaining your hood than more moderately priced parts. See? It's all about money. As far as QuickLatch is concerned, I would never put a ball-style hood pin on a car that is truly fast. If the latch lets go, you're fucked.
jsimmonstx Interesting comment seeing as most of what you just stated is just YOUR opinion, but ok... Lol. I actually gave several pros and cons to each style of pin. Quick latches are as strong if not stronger than any other pin because of how they are designed and the materials used. The QL-50’s hold 700lbs of force each, so unless you are expecting 1,400+ lbs of force to affect your hood and only your hood, I wouldn’t worry about it. Lol. In fact, they are used on the McLaren P1GTR, so I’m sure they are more than adequate for most cars. www.quik-latch.com/quik-latch-applications-on-mclaren-p1gtr.html
@@hawkeyestiguy - At least two videos showing quick latch pins failing. That's more than just opinion - it's tangible proof that they aren't adequate (especially if you only use one set). It doesn't matter how much force they can hold. When you're driving, shit happens, and a ball-style hood pin can (and will) eventually fail due to vibration. AeroCatch or the "F&F uncool" ones are the hands-down best choice for hood retention because the slides don't need lanyards to be permanently attached to the car, and the locking pins won't back out of the pins (unless you completely bork the installation). When you're talking about safety, "not cool enough" should *never* be a consideration. Just sayin...
jsimmonstx Based on what you have said in your last two comments, I’m honestly not even sure you are talking about the same product I am or that you have watched my video. Who ever heard of using multiple pairs of hood pins on a daily driver? Lol. The only “quick latches” I have heard of failing are cheap ebay knockoffs, so if you care to provide links to the vids of genuine Quik-Latches that were installed correctly failing, I’d like to see it. Saying that literally 2 have failed out of the thousands sold/installed is also an incredibly poor argument to make. Listen, I’m not looking to have a pissing contest with you. Lol.
hood pins do NOT need to be mounted at near 90 degrees ... The toyota celica you used as your example is not even close to 90 and the mounting point you showed is in a rounded area of the hook.. with all hood pins you pop the stock hood latch .. walk to the front of the car and open it. WTF are you talking about "extra steps"
I’m not trying to sell this at all, it is a superior product in my honest opinion. It doesn’t scratch your hood, is more secure & clean, & hasn’t given me any issues. 🤷🏻♂️ It it the product I had in hand & the one that I installed, because it is the best functioning & looking. Sad that you can’t give a thorough walkthrough of a product without some folks thinking you’re trying to “sell” it. Lol. Buy whatever latch you personally prefer, just giving my thoughts on it, same as mentioned in the video/description man. 👍🏼
Jack Killough Comparisons or examples of what? I discussed all of the most common types of hood pins & showed what they look like. I don’t own every type so I don’t have them physically in my possession. I really don’t understand what you are asking about.
Jack Killough I still have no idea what you are talking about. I covered the pros & cons of the main 3 types of hood pins there are. I only own 1 style of them, Quik-Latch, but I did a fair amount of research on the others. If that’s not ok with you, then perhaps you should buy all three types & make a video of your own. I honestly don’t know what your deal is. Lol. If you don’t like the video for some random reason, then maybe you should do another search & find a different video.
Jack Killough I’m not offended, I’m just annoyed with you at this point if I’m honest. You commented that I didn’t give comparisons of anything when the entire video is literally me listing out pros & cons of each type of latch. I compared the QL design to other types, but I focused on QL because that is what I have & that was clearly stated in the video. If you don’t like my content, cool. If you wished I had made the video differently, cool. But I don’t know what to tell you when you are complaining that I didn’t talk about things in a video when I clearly did. I don’t have a time machine. Lol.
Chris B Buy whatever pins you want man, just telling you why I like Quik-Latch. I would not have gone with their hood pins if I didn’t like their design & I wouldn’t have 2 videos installing QD latches that I bought. If it was an infomercial, I wouldn’t have talked about any of the benefits of Aerocatch pins. Lol.
HawkeyeSTiGuy go get yourself a brain, for this NOT to be an infomercial it has to be a plain critique of all options. No conclusions and certainly not you prejudicing the "impartiality" by not only stating your preference but showing video of you installing them on your own vehicle. As l said, bullshit. I will indeed choose the ones l prefer and will do so without needing your permission, but do try to actually understand what it is you're doing, and don't insult us.
Chris B Listen, I’m just sharing my opinion on a product. I felt I was as impartial as I could be while providing accurate information. I’m not buying all three types of latches & installing them on 3 different cars, but clearly that’s what you want to see. If you have a problem with my video or any of my content, don’t watch. It’s that simple. Lol. I have enough things to get done without wasting time responding to whiny comments cause a particular video was not “unbiased” enough. Everyone has their opinions & I was simply telling people why I like Quik-Latch. Since you mention not having a brain, most people have a brain & can put 2 & 2 together & understand that this is my opinion without starting a bitchfest...🙄

Not necessarily. At least that isn't the main reason. Their primary function is to prevent the hood from flying up. Carbon & fiberglass hoods have the hood latch molded in, but they can come loose over time & separate from the hood.
Carbon fiber goods should always have hood pins
Nice! Aerocatch are great latches & they certainly have plenty of good applications.
Honestly I think it just comes down to preference. While the quick latch would be cool, I went with the aerocatch. Price was a factor but also the look. I like what they give. Imo. Cant go wrong with either quick latch or aerocatch.
How often are you raising your hood daily? Go with the ones you want, by all means. But generally I would raise my hood 2-3 times a week.
Aint raising my hood unless I hear something potentially wrong hahaha.
The ones that let people know you have lots of pony’s under the hood
Can’t imaging what your thesis was like!
So I have the QL 50, I do love them so far. They look great. I just have to remount my hood latch as I got a new hood. So haven’t tested out them fully yet. Great video very informative. I had the slide pin style and hated the extra step to unlatch them.
Thanks! Yeah, it's crazy how many options there are for car parts these days. Back in the day, the slide pin style was all there was. Lol.
thats some of the laziest shit ive head in a while
@@rybalchenkofamily it’s not about being lazy. It’s about the inconvenience of it. You get out unlatch it , go back in pull the hood latch then come back out to open the hood. With these I pulls the hood latch get out push and open. Convenience and they look nicer as well
@@rybalchenkofamily Go troll somewhere else. Lol.
I've never seen the type you got, but I really like em. very nice
Thanks. I wasn't aware of them until a few years ago when I happened to come across Quik-Latch's QD bumper latches.
definitely going to have to snag them for my wrx. I think they look a little cleaner in my opinion too. Thanks for the great content!
No problem. I agree, that's why I went with them. I just hate things that aren't streamline.
well yer intro here sits pretty well with me. let me just say im here because i want to buy hood pins and im doing my homework before i buy anything. cheers mate
I love my retro pin on my Audi. A challenge installing, but fun experience. First was a lock pin, but kept vibrating and flying off! Now I have a slide pin with a small pad lock, since the latch is inoperable.
I love it how he says I’m not pushing quick latch hood pins and starts pushing quick latch hood pins 😂
Clearly quiklatch is a product that has the market in its hands. I mean even the p1 gtr has their hood pins!
I agree. I think they are going to catch on & be as big as Aerocatch, if not bigger. For racing applications, it's all function & looks don't matter, but for most restoration projects, daily drivers, project cars, ect., especially the high end cars, people don't want huge plastic latches on their hoods & body panels.
Really good video with lots of good explanation. Definitely Quik-Latches are the way to go in my opinion.
Thanks man! I agree.
Again, depends on your ride. If you have an older muscle car, or even newer muscle car, the Hotchkiss or Shelby slide hood pins would look better (though "better" is ALWAYS a personal opinion) and more natural for the car. But you rock what you want, you paid for both!
I went with Stetion brand quick latch for 39 plus tax with 5% discount on Amazon.
Thanks for this Video. Before seeing this I had already bought an AeroCatch set. The which I sold after seeing your review. I now waiting on my order of Quick-Latch Set. Bought the black one too.
Nice. I love my Quik-Latches & they are holding up great!
In terms of strength would you say that quik latch is stronger or the same as aero catch?
Probably about the same honestly. I don’t have stats for either in front of me, but both are solid, track-proven options. Neither of them will break on you.
I completely agree, an awesome video. Sold me on quik latch. I'm pushing 580 whp and I'm iffy on the CF hood coming up on me, so for peace of mind I'm going for it.
Nice. I definitely love mine.
I went with the classic muscle car/ nascar style. Got 4 on the way, but I’m not sure if I’ll be installing all of them.
First: subbed cause subie love 😂
Second: great vid, first of yours I’ve seen
Third: I’ve been eyeing those QL-38’s in black cerekote, cause I wanna hide them a little bit on my sleeper forester build
Thanks! Sorry I didn't get to this comment until now, but I love these hood pins. They are functional yet subtle. Perfect for a sleeper!
Where did you acquire those racks in the background ?I have searched everywhere. Great Video by the way. Thanks for sharing all your hard work. I need those racks in my life, had them before on a previous job. Love them

@@hawkeyestiguy EXCELLENT!!!! Thank you so much sir...
If I have the regular old style slide pin on now can I upgrade to the Q38 ? Thanks and great video with much respect. !!
I believe so. You'd probably need to modify the hole/placement, and may need to do some patchwork. Maybe not, probably depends on your hood, what pins you had prior, and how/where they are mounted.
I just want something to replace my cheap crappy stock hood latch that broke and I think I’m gonna get one of the quick latches
Are the quick latches waterproof? Can they freeze in the winter?
Thanks
Thats a valid question and I was wondering the same thing. I have not seen anyone address this question
What i wanna know is what the dirabillity is. I dont want my flipfront in carbonfiber to flipp up during a race.
I know it's older but awesome video, I appreciate all of the research. Definitely subscribed for more
Sam C Thanks!
The old school hood pins came with muscle cars stock, I know at least the TA dodge did back in the 70s and the 2016-18 TA
I had to remove my factory latch due to placement of my oil cooler and going with the slide pins. Does anyone know if they are safe for high speed roll racing?
If you install them right, yes.
Ultimately warranty is what makes me buy a product.
Are quick latches good enough for 100+ mph with a carbon hood? There’s no chance of it ripping through right?
Correct. Guys use them on legit race cars all the time. They are rated for hundreds of pounds. Link to the website should be in the description, pretty sure they have the ratings & data from their testing there. 👍🏼
Definitely going to pick up some quick latches!
Nice! I think you'll like them a lot. I know I do!
HawkeyeSTiGuy sweet! I'll take your word for it. I'll be getting the ones on my front bumper
Awesome! I'm sure you'll love those too! If you message them on Facebook or Instagram, they may hook you up with a small discount. 👍🏻
HawkeyeSTiGuy sounds good, thanks man!
Great quality video and good to know info. Thanks for sharing.
What about from a security/Anti-Theft stand point? Quik-latch vs Aerocatch? its not possible to keep a thief out of your cabin but locking them out of the bonnet is my main concern.
Both systems have locking options where the pins themselves can be locked. I believe the Quik-latch May only have that option in the larger pin size.
Just amazing research!
Great review!!
Just found your channel!! Great information, subscribed!!
Thanks!!
Awesome video man! Good Job!
Thanks. 👍🏻👍🏻
Could I use the quick latch with a carbon fiber hood
Yes. 👍🏼 I have seen carbon hoods with them.
Lol.
@hawkeyeSTiguy do you have any recommendations for a hood pin with a lock that just keeps people from breaking open my hood and stealing my shit
I can't recommend any, sorry. Quicklatch does make ones with locks, but they are a bit pricey.
I really don't want to run hood pins is there an alternative. I want my hood to look stock. I got a srt 8 hood.
Late to the party here. I always thought these latches REPLACED the OEM latch. So what's the point?
I can't decide.. so, what if I run one of each of the three styles? a hood-pin medley if you will.
Dave Martin Ok, people make typos dude. Never seen a misspelled word before? How old were you when you started working on your Camaro?
I was curious how long you’ve been working on your car because I figured you were either pretty young & had nothing better to do but troll on the internet-or you were a middle-aged man who had nothing better to do but troll on the internet. Unfortunately, it seems like you are much closer to being the latter...

Listen, you seem like a half-way nice guy when you’re not going out of your way to be an ass.
Great info, thanks alot!
No problem. Glad it was useful to you.
There's a 4th style but you might end up paying over $500 cause they are used on airliners...
Thanks for a great and informative video. Forget about that cat that said too much talking. It's necessary to hear it all.
Glad it was helpful!
Dude... standard slide pin kits have been around for AT LEAST 60 years... so "pretty sure that early in 2000s" and your comment about Fast & Furious popularizing hood pins is kinda hilarious in an accurate context.
*Can't even make this crap up* 😂
Wohoooooo 60 fps. Nice vid
Thanks! Yeah, I started shooting in 2.7k with my Hero 5. I still rendered it in 1080, but I'm experimenting with higher resolutions. I have been shooting my vids at 60fps for a while now, but RUclips doesn't always show that it's 60fps for some reason.
HawkeyeSTiGuy great info bro! keep it up, always looking forward to more videos!
Thanks man!!
Really, who wants to hide the hood pins? SMH Quick L are cool for bumbers and... Besides, does a ball shape can hold on, better than slide pins. That's physics. Any way I think this is just JDM guys point of view. 👍
Yes the ball shape can hold on, the same way a ball hitch can hold 10,000 pounds.
You’re saying that quick latches don’t need extra steps to open your hood, when in fact it’s the same. Unlatch your factory latch and then unlatch the hood pin! In fact, it’s that way with any fucking hood pin system! So this point is moot on any of the pros or cons!
A con of hood pins is having to walk back again and release the hood latch, and you’re a “car guy”? You drive an auto? SMH
Autos are faster now anyways kid. And grow up.
You can get aerocatch in aluminium
Ruben Ostli I wasn't aware of that. Can you please provide a link? Thanks. I have only seen the plastic latches. The threaded stud can be had in either aluminum or steel, but I was talking about the latch itself.
HawkeyeSTiGuy I actualy dont know if it was aerocatch but my friend has that style of latch in aluminium
Ok. If you find out what latches they are, let me know. I am interested to see what other options are out there. 👍🏻
HawkeyeSTiGuy areocatch does have a metal latch now. They have the standard ones being plastic, and heavy duty ones being metal
To use factory latch without having to pull the handle inside the car.. Detach the cable. Congrats bud.
too much talking, sorry
Al Kuzin Ok. 🤷🏻♂️ Sorry you don’t like the video style.
HawkeyeSTiGuy yeah bro its a good video but 22 mins is a lil too long for most people on youtube.
Nah, just right lol
Lol.
if you have a factory hood release why would you be installing these anyway LOL
it's a 1993 Mercedes Benz 500sel
hood pins do NOT need to be mounted at near 90 degrees ... The toyota celica you used as your example is not even close to 90 and the mounting point you showed is in a rounded area of the hook..
with all hood pins you pop the stock hood latch .. walk to the front of the car and open it. WTF are you talking about "extra steps"
I removed my OEM hood latch completely. I've installed two sets of hood pins (the kind that "aren't cool any more"...
I'm confused isn't a "sti" a ricermobile?????
Yep, that's exactly how Subaru registered it every year they competed in WRC... Lol.
I am confused isnt a dodge a house?
Dodge guys are a little disgruntled, since Kia promoed thier Stinger GT killing the Hellcat in the quarter!
The more moving parts, the things that could go wrong.
Is it me or does it sound like he's trying to sell this product... 🤔🤔
WTF? No comparison or examples.
Jack Killough Comparisons or examples of what? I discussed all of the most common types of hood pins & showed what they look like. I don’t own every type so I don’t have them physically in my possession. I really don’t understand what you are asking about.
@@hawkeyestiguy . Maybe I missed something, but all I recall was your discussion of one type.
@@hawkeyestiguy Sorry if I offended, I don't have time watch it again. Probably my oversight. Calm down. I apologize.
Lol.
jigsaw huh
Not an infomercial lmfao yeah right. Bullshit.
