  • In this video I clear up some potential confusion surounding gear terminoligy. Then, I describe gears in a simplified way as they relate to increasing tire size. I created this video because I was often getting confused as to what exactly was happening when adding tire diameter and how adding gears reduces the work your engine and transmission exert. This video simplifies what is happening in a way that is easy to understand.

OH YEA Matt gearing is everthing with Torqe I dont understand the ratios but I see logging trucks go by us up a 6 % grade like we are standing still and watch some of these nuts back east in the Busted Knuckle videos of whipple charged 4 wheelers going up impossible hills ,gearing and torque and hp is everything !

Did you notice a difference in mileage once you re-geared so you could navigate the hill on your commute to work? I think it would be interesting to calculate a before and after fuel mileage differences. But I do understand the main goal is to get over the hill without stressing the engine and allow the engine to last a long time which in my opinion would be where the life time cost savings will be seen.

I get a 0.3mpg increase after the regear. I set it up for the mountainous region I drive in.

@@WildRiverCamping That is a nice increase and you keep the oomph, and increase engine life. Do you use synthetic oils or just regular oils?
