- Putting on 35 inch tires is something every FJ Cruiser owner that enjoys offroading thinks about doing. These Milestar Patagonia Mud Terrain tires on SCS Stealth Custom Series F5 wheels are a great upgrade!

@@robertcaldarelli3998 it's a custom bumper made by Eric Lively in Ogden Utah. It's really high clearance, lots of departure angle. Also it is nice not having all the weight of the tire on the back door. Thanks for watching!

Great video, I've been toying with the idea of going from 285s to 315s too. When you make the alterations to the body mount and the plastic stuff in the rear wheel wells, could you make a follow-up video? Also, curious why you picked the 16s rather than 17s?
Thanks for watching! I am planning on a follow up in which I do some alterations. I went with 16's for maximum sidewall, and they were lighter.

I was going to run the same tire eventually. I was probably going to be around a -10 offset wheel and was going to do a spc uca with maxed out caster. They can really add a lot of caster. Hopefully that will clear these.
Sounds like that should work. My wheels are -25 offset and there's plenty of room.
@@offroadhub.official i figured the -10 offset would work fine. Actually would prefer not too go to far out. Too much offset causes rubbing as well, but im sure you know that lol.
I love the look of those wheels, I hate when wheels don't include the center cap though.

you also took off spacers, how much did they weigh? Also when you go to 40+ you should consider getting the Maxxis Trepador Competition tires.
The spacers were aluminum and weigh very little. I looked at the Trepadors, but maxxis warns that they may crack in cold temperatures and I can't have that.
@@offroadhub.official One aspect of this what people don't understand is that its not about the difference in the unsprung weight that affects anything with the ride or fuel economy or power, its purely on the diameter.
Going one size up increases the total diameter of the wheel by half of that difference and this directly reduces the final torque. A simple and elementary physics so to speak. And this has the highest impact relative to the difference in the unsprung weight of the wheel and tire combination.
(i.e Its a lot easier to stop a free wheeling bicycle tire by gripping it from on its outer edge than from anywhere more closer to towards the center.).

Those 35's look great on the FJ. Thank you for the video. Did you see a big difference between 34's and 35's on highway driving? How about wheeling?
There wasn't a huge difference on the highway going from 34 to 35. They've been realky great off road! I need all the clearance I can get! I did eventually regear to 4.88, which made a huge positive difference. Thanks for watching!

@Fizz826 yes, you have to to do both front and rear. I went with 4.88:1 gears from Nitro Gear.

Older video here, but considering 315/70r17 on my 2013 TT so I came across your video. Are you running stock front UCAs?
I went to dobinsons uca's. Having the extra caster is good.
Nice video, but I was actually nervous watching you do this without any stands supporting all that weight. When it started wobbling, I get super nervous.
It's ok, it couldn't fall very far and I wasn't under it. 👍

I like the scs F5's because they are so light weight.

Great video! Just have a question with the performance do you notice the fj searching for the correct gear when driving up hill? Right now my fj has 33s thinking of going for 35s
I don't notice any difference really between the 34's and 35's. It's been too long since it was stock to remember how that was. I find that not using cruise control is the way to go. Being able to modulate the throttle manually and accept a little speed variance keeps shifting in check. I'll probably regear someday.

Need to regear, people who haven't regeared say not needed but once you do it you will see how your FJ is not bugged down by weight or tire size....IMO

Im running 2008 TTD 6” lift on 37’s KO2 and scs wheels. Rubbing offroad and turning on uneven elevations (even minor ones). 35’s should not be an issue. Question - what bumper tire carrier are you using. Looking for one to mount my 37 spare
My rear bumper and swing out were built by a guy in Ogden Utah, and he isn't building them at this time. Good luck with 35's, coming from 37's that should fix your rubbing. Thanks for watching!

I just got on scs's mailing list and waited. They aren't in stock very often.
I donnot know if I miss it, but; did you mentioned anything about road noise with those patagonias MT? Also, you come from BFG's, why not KO2's? I hope those 10 lbs of weight are not the reason
The road noise is very low, not really any more than with the Ko2's. I went with these mt's because they are more aggressive, and I do a lot of aggressive trails.
Good looking wheels and tire setup. I assume you haven't re geared since changing tire size.
I did recently regear! Starting with my Fire Break 5 video I'm regeared. I went with nitro 4.88 and added an arb front locker.

Hey I'm over here in WA near elbe hills area less than 1/2 hour away. Seen you had been there that's why I mentioned it.
Anyway I'm thinking about going away from my bfg's AT's and going to mud terrain. My questions are you have had them for a little bit and was wondering how the milestars are doing? Are the super loud? How are they in the Rain? And are you using a 6 or 10 ply thinking about weight.

Elbe is awesome! I can't really give a great review of the Patagonias. I almost never drive them on pavement. They are still pretty quiet on pavement though. I've never driven them in the rain! Mine are the 10 ply equivalent, and they've been super tough. Mine have about 6000 miles on them now. 95% off road.

It will be a while before I replace my bfg ko2 I only have about 10k miles on them but thinking I want to go a different rout. As you know it gets muddy around here lol.
Have you upgraded your spindles or LCA alignment cam tabs to like tacotabs or the Marlin Crawler brace kit.

Great videos! I have some 315/70/17 on my Fj. It rub my after market UCA so I have to use a 1.25 wheel spacer to clear the tire from rubbing the UCA. Did you have any of this issues when install 35’s on your? My Fj has a 2.5 lift in the front and a 3 inch on the rear.

My tires would have rubbed the uca's, but they don't with the -25 offset scs f5 wheels. I've cut and pounded eveything and they still rub a little when off road sometimes.
Thanks for the reply! I plan to probably swap out the rims to -25 offset or go back down to 33’s so I would not have to run spacer.
Saw on the comments that you were in the middle of a re-gear & front locker. Have you installed them and how is it now with the 35s? I want to go to 35s when it's time to replace my 33s, but the 4.88s w/ front locker + tires is a one big purchase that's hard to justify at the moment.
Yes I'm now regeared to 4.88 with a front locker. The regear gave me back the power I had lost and also my slow 4lo crawl. The front locker is a game changer in terms of added traction! Definitely not cheap, but great upgrades.

@@iLuveKatsup 35's are ok without regearing, just sluggish on the road. So you could put off the regear, but you'll want it eventually.

What's average your mpg with the 35s?
I get 17mpg on the highway. About 13 in town.
Was it hard to fit the 285/75/17s? I just bought some, and now I'm unsure if it will fit 😅 I have a 2 inch lift
You'll be fine with a 2 inch lift and an aggressive body mount chop. Also make sure your caster is as positive as possible when you get your alignment done, 3+ degrees.

@@Papa_patricio I don't have any experience with the 6 inch lift, but I would think you'd still need a body mount chop at least. Wheel spacers can make rubbing worse.
