I love the banana bread / banana fosters aspects of the OF1920 and can't believe y'all are pointing to it as a shortcoming. Different stokes for different folks.

My parents went to the wild turkey distillery a few years ago. They were the only 2 that signed up during that time slot and were giving a private tour by the master distiller who signed a bottle of rare breed for them.

This is one of my favorite It's Bourbon Night episodes, ever. It shows that you WILL call bs when it's present. And that you will be as objective & unbiased as possible. Also, the 2 of you presented a true challenge that took you out of your comfort zones. This gave the beloved bourbon video channel genres a much needed jolt of freshness. Thank you for all that you do. Now I'm gonna go spend $100 on a bottle of each.

Hats off for taking an episode headed straight for the bin and turning it into a standout. Great stuff! Meanwhile, I've never taken 1920 and RB head to head and wonder. I regard them equally, but they are very different...

So excited to see this video bc these are my 2 favorite readily available burbons to date. I go back and forth between these 2 burbons a lot. Been through a lot of Rare Breed bottles and 1920 bottles so I have experience in both. Rare Breed to me has more spicy notes than 1920. It's a great burbon no doubt. If I had to pick between the 2 I would go with the 1920. My thinking on this is because I get a huge Cherry note on the 1920 and to me it's a Cherry bomb and I love it. The flavor profile has always been consistent as well. With my pallet, I don't get the dominant Cherry note on the Rare Breed like I do the 1920. Both great burbons and I love both just prefer 1920. Thanks for the video!

What a great episode! It’s so refreshing that you didn’t just tank the episode when you realized there was no change in the 1920. Great decision. I like OF but I am a Wild Turkey guy (in this realm anyway). Regarding Four Roses….no, not for me. Anyway, thanks. This was a fun episode.

I’m team Chad here with the Rare Breed for the win. It’s got complexity with its sugars, spices, and oak… it’s always, and I mean always, on the shelf (whereas, I have to go looking for 1920)… and it’s $15-$20 cheaper.
(Also, I often get heartburn and my stomach acids start reacting to immediately to OF 1920, but I don’t have that same affect with RB. But that’s just me.)

Great show....nice review. I have gone crazy trying sooooo many different Bourbons and I have really like the OF products. 1910 and 1920 are my favorites. I love the charred flavor of these OF whiskeys. 1920 especially, I make an Old Fashioned with them and instead of a simple syrup I use real maple and OMG. Best ever. DASH o bitters with a teaspoon of dark amber real maple syrup, and Woodford Reserve Bourbon Cherry and a drip o the juice with a chunk of clear ice....boom. Best OF Old Fashioned ever.

Total Wine had some nice additions available, stocked up, looked like a criminal at checkout; Four Roses Small Batch Select, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel, ...and then across the pond Brunichladdich Laddie (OMG), Deanston 12, and Compass Box Hedonism, after loading up had to walk away from the large variety of Tennessee's Belle Meade, which if i saw first would have done me in straight away.

I get RB for 45-47 and 1920 for 54. They’re equally good in my book. Since I prefer the 1920 the extra few bucks don’t matter to me. Even if RB was 40 I’d still prefer the 1920 at 60. Just because I like it that much more. I drink four bottles a month. So that’s just my preference. And I’m weird like that lol. If I wasn’t me, I’d get RB every time.

You guys made me consume more than I wanted to tonight. I have to say I am on Team Chad on this one. 2021 has been a pretty dismal year for special releases and if you ask me what are the best bourbons I have had so far in 2021, Rare Breed is on the list. 1920 is not. I like 1920 and all with its candy factory explosion, but compare it to Rare Breed and Rare Breed is like a rickhouse explosion drizzled with caramel.
Rare Breed just has a bit more complexity and all of the things you want in a great bourbon, which is not a knock on 1920 at all, which is a great bourbon. But which would I rather drink on a given day? Rare Breed hands down. I like Nerds and all, but they aren't something I can eat every day. WT RB... any day of the week and twice on Sunday. That's all I'm saying.

I like to look at putting two or more bourbons together as attrition through subtraction. They each cancel out common notes until you are left with only what makes them unique-whether that is good or bad. You can do the same by drinking one bourbon and tasting other foods or drinks that you pick up in the tasting notes, effectively dulling your perception of that specific note to uncover others under the major profiles. Kind of fun to do until you ruin the experience by killing off all the good stuff too fast and have to reset your pallet.

I've been finding some bourbons really wake up or the sharp edges smooth out when it is warmed up some... I tried rare breed at shop/car temperature when I got home, so I guess it was about 20 degrees C it was sharper, more bitey cinnamon and cherry but after holding the glass in my hand for 10 mins or so it got closer to body temps (not warm but closer) it rounded off the sharp edges, more caramel and cream came out and the spicy bite backed off a little. I've been finding with some bourbons I really am starting to like them if I let them warm in my hand for a while. I thought it might be the airing out but nope, I did a back to back with the same bottle and the cooler one poured at the same time was less to my liking. Perhaps it's like red wine, it is not good right out of the fridge but at room temps it is perfect

I've been trying a bunch of bourbons. I'm not crazy about the watery ones like the 80 proofs. I only like the 100+. I drink it straight with large whiskey cubes as to not water it down but get it cold. So far, the 1920 is the best whiskey I"ve been able to find at any price point. But it's a little out of my budget for a daily drinking so I roll with OF 100. But I added Wild Breed to my spreadsheet to try and evaluate. Appreciate other peoples take on stuff even when it's different than mine. Taste is subjective. Maybe I'll like the RB as well and save a few dollars. Don't know.

SOLID!!! I mean...honestly there isn't a wrong choice. These are the episodes that make me re-think...why chase the taters and the allocated stuff. I did the side by side and tonight, it was the Rare Breed. Side by side, Rare Breed just had that deeper richer body, total butterscotch and cream with that musty oak nose. Great stuff!!!

Rare Breed and 1920, two of my favorites. But the edge does go to 1920

As a person (also) with a name with no H, I agree with Sara here. OF1920 is the winner for me too.

I honestly think I got a bad bottle or batch my bottle is a little rough and the flavors don’t do much a little flat. What a bummer because everybody loves this. Now my Rare Breed and Spirit SB is oh my goodness

This may be the best episode you ever did. I am a "compare everything" against rare beed guy. Rare Breed's extra woody oak notes blow OF1920 out of contention for me,

I have not tasted the Old Forester 1920, as it is almost impossible to get where I live 🥴! But I have tasted WT Rare Breed, which is a very nice Bourbon 😊👍!

Really interesting comparo. I love both of these bottles, but I don't think I've ever put them side by side. I'll have to try it soon. I think Between these two, and Knob Creek Single Barrel, I don't know why I ever drink anything else.

Its funny because I just watched that old video last week... and was like whoa, where did that hair come from?
And.... this is one of my favorite episodes now just for seeing Sara squirm like that.

Love them both, but it's 1920 for the taste win, Rare Breed for the price win.

Damn I love me some RB. I've got a bottle of the 1920, new label, it is also delicious. RB is more my in my wheel house.

Rare breed is good (also cheaper). However 1920 is in a different class. Frankly, it's my favorite bourbon period. I get tons of mint in the 1920 for some reason.

Old Forester is the Smoothest Bourbon i have tasted , this should have a Warning on the Bottle because you could be Drunk before you even realise it , i can drink this like it's beer
