    I think the rest of the series is fairly priced. I'm not paying $115 for a 100 proofer that most people are saying is decent. I've seen nobody saying this is awesome. A $20 jump from 1920 would have been reasonable.

    I would name this Kentucky joker because it may be the same mash bill as KoK it definitely does not resemble the couple I’ve had. It seems everyone has the same outlook. Everyone has same remarks, it’s ok, needs to open up, it’s thin. You know a bottle is a hitter when you have the first pour of the bottle and you go damn that’s good.

    When you pour from one bottle to another (I often use a funnel for such things) you will be introducing more air into the liquid, and how much air really depends on the method of transfer. No idea how you went about filling the test bottle - but added air could have had the effect you noticed. While a regular funnel will not be as extreme, look up "wine decanting funnel", or "aerating funnel" - those are purposely adding as much air as possible, but even a normal funnel will add more air into the liquid.

  • @jondilly1974

    I get why this exists. Since they sold the ET brand, B-F needs a product that uses that mashbill. They essentially decided to age ETBiB up to 10 years and release it as an allocation in order to make more ROI from the stock. They have to continue making the mashbill in order to have KoK.

  • @davidjohnson8930
    @davidjohnson8930 7 месяцев назад +1

    Once a year because it's the barrels that don't hit the KOK profile and get directed to 1924. Now that ETBIB has been sold to Saz they need to do something with the whiskey that's aging that doesn't end up meeting the KOK "standard", or taste profile. Hence let them keep aging and create a new whiskey. Voila 1924. Side by by side this with michters 10 which also is BF product of the same mashbill "supposedly". Interesting comparison.

    13:38 In my (admittedly limited) experience, some whiskies don't change at all as the level goes down, some get better, a few get worse, and a very few change dramatically, indeed change from glass to glass. Laphroaig 10 is so changeable that out of my current bottle, every single glass has been somewhat different (but all good).

    It might be a once a year release BUT they are ramping up the production and release through the year. I think the rumor is that the vast bulk won't actually be to distributors until March/April. There is a mountain of this stuff headed out to stores - the slow trickle that is happening right now is just the tip of the iceberg for the year.

    My educated guess is this is comprised of ET barrels that are old enough but not up to KoK standards. I would also wager that it’s going to be older than 10 years for the majority of the blend but they want to give themselves room with a 10 year statement. That’s both room to blend everything down to 10 years and also not step on KoK’s toes.
    EDIT: commented before I finished the video… lol.

    I don’t get the uproar here. Stagg Junior is rejected GT Stagg. Everyone loves it. Weller is rejected pappy. Everyone loves it. Old fitz 10 was $140 retail. Nothing but love. Michter’s 10 retails for 200 and goes for 3x or more than $115. I’d buy 10 M10 if I could find them (haven’t seen one since 2021). The average Birthday Bourbon over the last six years has been 11.2 years old and 100 proof.
    All that said…I was able to time the trucks and got a few bottles of these. I gave one to a friend at retail but kept all the others. If they really stick to an annual release for this I’ll be hunting it just like I hunt for Birthday.
    Also don’t be surprised if in 2-3 years it retails for double. My first RR13 was $69.95. Less than two years later it’s $150.

  • @apeekintime
    @apeekintime 7 месяцев назад

    Gotta say, i hate the "KoK Jr" and "Birthday Bourbon Jr" titles being given to 1924 and Statesman respectively. Being the same mashbill is only HALF the battle. We all know single barrels vary heavily and neither of these are single barrel products. Simply being the same mashbill doesn't mean the bottles are really comparable. Location in the warehouse, age, and and batching will mean far more for the actual flavor profile than just being the same ratio of grains.
    Sadly, OF doens't do well with high age. Their heat cycling tends to over oak whiskey and that's the common issue I see with 1924 - the flavor punch is a touch lacking and it's over oaked. The flavor punch is low because they proof the batch down to 100, mostly because at a higher proof the oak would have been unbearable. 1924 is a good cash grab way to utilize those aged barrels that aren't hitting the flavor profile desired for KOK, Presidents, Birthday Bourbon, or LE's. You eventually have to find an outlet for those bottles and a $120 bottle with a 10 year age statement is a good place to dump the barrels taking on too much of the wrong oak profile.

    • @ItsBourbonNight
      @ItsBourbonNight  7 месяцев назад

      Oh man, who's calling Statesman "Birthday Bourbon Jr"? Well, I guess that could make sense because we are not the biggest fans of Birthday Bourbon and also flat out do not enjoy Statesman. Anyway, your point is well taken, but for us, we called 1924 a KoK Jr only because we did see that through line or tasted some of that "DNA" in it, much more so than some of those lists out there that say "can't find allocated bourbon 'X', then try easy to find bourbon 'Y', it's basically the same thing!" :)
