I was able to score one direct from, Old Forester for $115 on release day. Was underwhelmed by the fresh crack pour. Enjoyed it significantly more a week later. Will nurse the bottle and see if it becomes more available and hopefully cheaper.
Thanks Matt. Unfortunately price has to be taken into account on this one because $115, let alone $150, is highway robbery for this bottle. Maybe I'd pay the $115 for a first bottle but yeah. Of course to each their own on what they want to pay for a bottle but I felt this is over priced enough that I had to say something.
Well, Birthday Bourbon is well over 100 and it’s been 10,11, and 12 year….🤷🏼♂️ should be around the same as Barrel strength for 79.99
I think they are jumping on the bandwagon pricing like MWND and others lately
I like that he doesn’t include price in his reviews. There are plenty of people that do that. $115 means something different to everyone. Some people make that in an hour, and some people have to save for a month to have that much disposable income. I think the review should just be about the whiskey itself so people can make their own determination if it’s worth the price.
Price does not have to be taken into account, you do that as a consumer. His job is to review the whiskey that's it.
It's actually best that he doesn't take price into account. It would be interesting to know how other 10-year Bourbons have ranked. Then we can make informed buying decisions based on price and reviews like this one.
I really appreciate the “you pay what you pay” and you don’t pitch a fit reference. The get what you get and don’t pitch a fit reference is a staple for my kids currently. One of few bourbon RUclipsrs that I feel like I could relate to enough to want to have a drink with them. If you ever do a pick with shortbarrel here in Atlanta, let me know. I will join the tasting team.
What’s funny is that listening to Matt talk about the whiskey, I can usually guess the score pretty closely. I guessed 8.1 before he said it. Not bad. And I agree with the assessment.
I have not had this one yet, but I really enjoyed Old Forester products in general, so I hope to get to try it. Thanks for another great review, Matt!
Grabbed an Of 1924 at 119$. Was very very lucky and literally was at the store when their allocation hit the tables. Plucked one of the 3 available and took it home to try asap. I really really enjoy it and would definitely buy another if I could find at the same price some day.
Thanks for the review Matt, really looking forward to trying this one... if it ever shows up here in NH. Must say its going to have to be magic to beat the blue label single barrel/barrel strength I am enjoying right now, and that was only $85.
Great review matt! I have been wondering if you will ever make a review on found north? Cheers and glad you enjoyed the Forester!
Can't friggin wait to find a bottle. Thanks Matt Man.
Thanks Matt. I wait for your review before I buy the new stuff coming out. Other reviewers I don’t trust. But you I do. Thank you again.
Thanks for the review, I’ve been wanting to try it. Now I’m on the lookout
Man your review is spot on to what I experienced with this bottle the other night.
Great review Matt. Makes me want to find a bottle.
I love to play along at the end when you're scoring to see if I can guess The Matt Porter Score before you say it. Based off of the notes you give and the faces you make I'm typically within 0.1-0.2 from where you end up. It's pretty fun.
Putting this in the same conversation as Mich10 is quite the compliment. Looking forward to getting a pour of this at a bar when it's available in my area but my $150/bottle budget will go to Mich10 every time.
Matt mentioning Michter’s in this convo completely changed how I was thinking about it. After learning recently that a lot of Michter’s products are sourced from Brown Forman, and knowing how much I like Michter’s, it made me think that $115 for a 10 year bottle maybe isn’t as bad as I initially would’ve thought
Good luck finding an M10 for $150 or less. It’s not 2019 anymore
2023 MSRP for M10 is 185. So the 1924 at 115 is actually a way better value and probably easier to find as well.
@@Bergkampgunner I didn't say M10 sells for $150 or less, I said my budget of $150 per bottle would go towards a M10 over a 1924. That said, I did get a 2023 M10 for $165.
@@francisrizzo1529 the reason you got a doubting reply was obvious. M10 for me is ~$400 and they’d call that a discount
Great channel mate 🍻
Old Forester birthday Jr.! Great whiskey!
Thanks, Matt!
love the review. I enjoy, I know not to look at price, but a little pricey for the juice. But an enjoyable pour for sure. cheers
"It smells like Michter's" -- well, they're both using the Early Times mash bill from the same distillery so ....
We don't know anything for certain about Michter's mashbill, and we only know it's rumored to be sourced or contract distilled from Brown Foreman.
My friend found one at Total Wine for MSRP. We both had a pour and neither of us liked it. I'll try it again when I'm there in a couple of weeks to see if it opened up and got better. For now, I'm glad it was his $ and not mine.
Solid review! I found two in GJ, but deferred both. I have a hard time stomaching $150 on a ten year non cask strength product, especially since I can find Stagg at the same price point. It's also twice the price of Knob Creek 12, Penelope 9 year CS, or Elijah Craig BP the younger. I enjoy the Old Forester whiskey row line up, but this whiskey should have been introduced at the $80-90 range.
Scored a bottle for the same price from my local and cracked during Super Bowl. It really tasted dusty to us which was a treat. I agree with all the mossy, funky notes, but for us it tasted like a dusty leatherbound book and was a really unique experience for a fresh crack whiskey. Happy to own it and would buy another for $150.
If this is a once a year release I really hope they have more coming in the future, I think maybe a dozen or so total bottles landed in 4 total wines in my state, was in stock for a few hours only, was at work and missed my chance.
Really enjoy the 1924, definately rebuy 👍
Great review Matty. My only critique with it is that it’s a bit flat on the palate but otherwise we enjoy it a ton. Definitely not thrilled with the price but such is life these days. Glad to have one but not in a rush to buy another.
I agree with the flat note where it's a bit thin, but flavors are fantastic.
Agree with your review! Nose is spectacular, palate is good, finish leaves something to be desired. I traded a bottle of EHT SiB for this. Happy i did, but wouldnt pay over msrp for a second bottle most likely.
10 year Early Times ?
Doubt it. 10 yr ET would taste amazing. After all, that’s what many say michters 10 is. I don’t know why they don’t just emulate michters. As OF already distills the base whiskey for M10, figure it wouldn’t be difficult to reverse engineer the barreling process.
I got one for 120 in a bundle, came with a bottle of Mellow Corn.... both tasty
I saw one for $126 a couple weeks ago picked it up for a buddy who i knew wanted it ..got to give it a try and its damn good.. there's other bottles i would pay that amount of money on personally..but if you really like old forrester i would go for it
Yeah! 8.0! Go Old Forester! Can't wait until I find one of these....hopefully....
Hello Oak, nice to meet ya!! Have you met my friend Moss Onalog?
Try 2/3 1924 & 1/3 1920. It's fantastic!
Should have named it Prince of Kentucky
If they did, no one would be whining about the price lol
Asked about this at my local shop(MN) and he said they are getting two bottles total for the whole chain. Haha more unobtainium juice up in North Country 😢
Easy 8! I agree with the rating, it's very easy to drink, and it does feel special.
Love that 1924!
It good but not worth the price. I would rather 2 1920 bottles instead of another one of these
i am sure many of these companies will go bust, if they keep pushing their average customers to pay 20 -30 % more every 1 or 2 years. Surely that's not going to be the case for brown forman, they will just cut half of their product line out. It's one thing to have products your customers are not a fan of, and completely a different story when they hate your guts because you are playing the hard to get game with them.
It's absolutely fantastic $65 whiskey
Here for the commenters that have never tried it and say it is too expensive despite having no point of reference. Great work Matt. Keep it up.
I Love it the 1st one was $139 then a week later I got a back up for $109 Thanks
Sharing with the guy who took you to the wood shed. You're a better man than me, Mr. Porter
I enjoy this bottle quite a bit.
I like the 1924 quite a bit
I think it would be interesting to do a blind with this where you don't know what the bottles are and guess the price or what it would be worth to you.
Porter: “You got a gap? Fill it”
Me: Honey! Matt says I have to fill the gap….
Great review as always!
Im trying to think why Old Forester and M10 have similar profiles but I got nothing.😊
Thank you Matt!
Needed this one….and by this one I mean, this review.
My take based on the review, I want it, but near MSRP. Cheers.
I snagged one for 120 & 100% enjoy this pour. Definitely worth the price in my opinion. Super allocated & difficult to find so I’m very happy with the bottle.
Hopefully we can find a bottle.
Old forester done there 10yr release right! I wish the russells reserve 10 yr was 100proof also.
The Russell's single barrells are usually around 9years 110 proof so...
Did you see that Vince Mcmahon will be on the Mash and Drum’s live stream discussing all the juicy Vince allegations?
Is it 4X (retail) as good as WT101?
I bought my bottle for retail in the 865. The nose is fantastic, and the more I pour it, the more I enjoy it.
I also give my proprietors samples!
Hi, Matthew.
An inquiry for your consideration, kind sir. If you could only have one bottle for $150, would you rather WT12 or OF1924 and why?
If they're going to charge me money for a bottle I'm going to consider price. It's kind of difficult not to.
My opinion is that if you're not sitting down to drinking something for a while it's not an opinion. First and second sip don't describe the experience to sitting down and exploring a poor over an evening or beyond. You first and second sip are just the start of exploring what a whiskey is. No one buys a bottle for 2 sips.
Matt, I'm curious- if you live on, in, by, beside, near perpendicular to the mountains- why do we only ever get to see the inside of your garage (and your handsome face)?
Seeme like we're missing out on some excellent views.
Is it 6 times better than Early Times?
When Matt makes a video, we updoot that sucker before we even start watching.
Paid 109 for mine and I’m completely satisfied
Name the store and location where you found this below MSRP please and thank you.
I could’ve bought this when it first came out for $115 but I didn’t think it’d be so sought-after and limited in allocation. Kept passing, and now it’s $199 lol. Didn’t even consider it and instead got a second btl of JD twice barreled rye for 130
You messed up. 1924 is an annual release that drops once a year and it’s phenomenal
@@drinks4days actually no it’s the 10
@@user-md9kb9xd8j ??
Love some Old Forester. But given that I can get the 1920 Prohibition Style at 115 proof for $70 and the 100 proof for $25, both of which I thoroughly enjoy, I’ll have to pass on this one.
Quality over quantity my friend. 1924 blows both of those away.
It is really good but 200 bucks at the store i saw it at was ridiculous
Can’t wait to try this, I think it’ll be pretty available once the intimate surge of hype dies down a bit. Maybe not as easy to find as something like 1920 but still shouldn’t be a unicorn
OF 1924 is now available around Central Maryland.
$150 a bottle!!
Pass!
At $115 that’s $50ish more than 1920. Is it really $50 better?
Paid 109.00 for mine
I passed on one for $100. I would have passed on it for $60 too. They are out of their mind with that msrp.
Was expecting so much more from this release. The nose was exceptional but the palate and finish just didn’t do it for me. I’d rather have the 1910.
It’s a fantastic pour at 115$, but would pay 130$. 150$ is too high for me
Absolutely fabulous bottle ! For the whiners complaining about price dont buy it ! I'll take all I can fetch at 115 bucks
Thank you! These people are ridiculous.
I passed on this at my local shop for 130. It wasnt the price i am just not an old forrester fan. This is one of those i am going to have to try before i buy
I tried it and it's an easy buy up to 150ish for me.
@kamahhl see I just don't like 1910 at all 1920 is okay but I won't buy another. So that's why I passed
"Don't consider the price"
*** all the comments are about the price lol
Unfortunately this is a hard pass for me I can get two of any row series for what this cost so why would I buy this when I know I like 1920 already.. Is it good sure but I can get every other ten year for under 50. So just a pass.
I passed on it at $140 in Western Massachusetts
Why?
reviews on other channels were hit and miss
Woo Hoo
Slb drinks has the same music as you
Expensive stuff #endthefed
tried it. I'd buy it at 60. msrp is too much imo
Yeah i paid $130
Hearing this is just the OG, Brown Forman, Early Times old leftover stock… $150 seems crazy if this is true.
In at $80-85, out at $115+ sorry. Do like most of the Old Forester Whiskey Row Series.
so you prefer 1920 I guess ... so do I
OF more money than ECBP. NOPE
Hard no.
Great review but too pricey, no thx
Porter's mouth is the Porthole - you're welcome.
Predicting it now. This comment section will be full of MSRP Guy. He will be commenting early and often. About how he only buys bottles that are MSRP and only if he agrees with that MSRP price as well. So basically he doesn’t drink but watches bourbon videos.
1920 > 1924
ill be passing on this one because of the price lol.
That’s ok leave it for the rest of us.
to me old forester 1924 tasted like latex gloves not very good at all.
I'm not rushing out to spend 120 on an age stated Early Times
Over rated bottle, won’t pay for hype sorry
Haven't tried it yet, but I can't justify 115 for 10 year 100 proof whiskey. Doesn't make sense when you can get Knob Creek 12 for 59-69.
I haven’t tried it yet, but I can say KC12 tastes a lot younger than 12 years, as is common with KC products. I bet 1924 is oakier, knowing OF.
@@user-md9kb9xd8j Most people I have seen review Knob 12 consider it plenty oaky. I know I get plenty of oak from it.
I’m sorry but….Overpriced
Michter's 10 may just be the most overrated and overpriced bourbon out there. It's a low proofed prune and peanut bomb, and it blows. Doesn't speak well for the 1924. The price is also fucking ridiculous.
