I started drinking alcohol 18 years ago as a teenage, spent my whole life fighting alcohol addiction. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
YES very sure of Dr.alishrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
From my experience it really works excellently! It doesnt even need to be a full hit. With potent shrooms 2-3 small ones will still make a clear difference. It will be a few hour cosy rumbling moment around rest time, but afterwards its just calm and you feel amazing and gain your freedom. Psilocybin is different dudes, its the only "treatment" I would recommend to someone who genuinely wants to get better. There is no addiction, withdrawal, or negative side effects. It's just pure healing., far more effective than any anti-depressant. You can thank me later
"I'm just going to set it down there...reeeeeaaal careful, don't want to upset it...THIS 1/2 oz of Pappy's 23, is getting an SJ." 🤣 God I love this channel! keep up the good work Matt!
"Don't shake your bourbon, you might upset it." but also "Major brand ships bourbon all across the world for retail distribution via freight company that gives precisely negative-one fucks about how it's handled."
Julian looked so unprepared in that video. It’s like he was going about his day and out of the blue he sat in front of a camera with a dude he never met and someone said "ACTION!" without knowing what the dude was going to ask him. Weird.
i remember one of your older videos and you were talking about someone telling you not to swirl the whiskey in the glass. If all the "aggravation" the bourbon encounters during transfer, bottling, packing , shipment, etc... does not "aggravate" the bourbon... a few swirls in the glass is not going to hurt a thing.
This video is hilarious, Matt. I watched the video with Julian a few days ago and was completely befuddled by his nosing recommendation. I will continue to swirl away.
This is the first video of yours I've seen, and it will not be the last. As another ADHD Bourbon lover, I fully appreciate your style and personality. Keep up the good work!!!
Ya good one Matt. I have listened to other youtube channels mention that you should not swirl the whiskey. Rather one should hold the glass at a 45 degree angle or a 37 degree angle or whatever angle you want and then turn the glass to coat the inside of the glass. I also SJ my whiskey and find that is best. The whole concept to the SJ is to add air to the whiskey (aggravate)
Watched the Caffe Gelato video when it came out and thought of the SJ immediately! Tried to follow Julian's "advice," and quickly abandoned it and went back to how I normally drink. Love your take, Matt, and will continue watching; keep up the great videos!
OMG that is some funny shit. Dude, you need to come visit us at the world's most sarcastic distillery cuz you got the sarcasm down! I'm in the biz so I have to be careful not to piss off everyone, but I am not very careful. There is a whole lot of pretention in this biz now. I love how you call it like it is.
I love the "B". fan of the B and I had no idea it could be aggravated . But to be honest I only swirl wine and cognac. I must also say you make me laugh out loud and thank you for that Sir. Keep going.
Matt, I completely agree with you about swirling. It cracks me up when I see you acting like you don’t know what you are doing and you absolutely know what you are doing! Keep it up! Great and funny stuff!
Adding air into any solvent changes circumstances in one way or another. It's nice to appreciate the aspects of things as they open and close in many different ways. Oxygen is very powerful. There are many ways to experience something.
Watched this one a couple of times...over the top laughter!!!! The comparison of glasses to hotel rooms...that brought tears...and so dang true! On the serious side...my pallet is just beginning to become educated...so a Pappy 23 would be wasted on me at this point. So thanks for the tips...and the laughter!!!
As a newbie to Bourbon I have jumped in with 2 feet for the last year or so. I saw that video when it came out and was rather confused by both that point about swirling and his overall kinda of unpreparedness.. which that part I chalked up to slight discomfort in front of the camera.. anyways.. thanks for the perspective Matt! Btw I found you from SLB being in your Matt MADNESS.. SO NEW SUB!
The guy makes good whiskey, but he doesn't seem to know a lot about the art of tasting it. Oh...and you aggravated it SO hard. That SJ aggravated the heck out of it. So much that all the aroma had to leap into your nose in protest.
One thing I missed was I have to drink Pappy Vanwinkle out of the bottle, Sh*t now I have to travel to Oregon to pick up a case ! And yes the Pappy Vanwinkle family is whiskey royalty love that brown nectar!!! Very entertaining video /// peace y'al
I think he is right about the swirling. I preliminarily coat the glass and do an initial swirl, but then let it sit for a while. I agree with him, as soon as you swirl you get way more ethanol and fumes. This is just my experience. But, I agree that his glass is garbage.
I saw the video with Julien a couple weeks ago and I immediately thought of you when he said not to swirl it! I'm so glad you decided to show the supposed "expert" how it's done! Great video!
Well, I’m happy Julian said it: “Don’t swirl it, it’s not wine” 😊 Seriously, watching Matt swirling the whiskey always drives me crazy 😅 It doesn’t help, Matt! On the contrary .. And you don’t have to swirl the whiskey to coat the glass, but I guess you already know that. So there’s no reason to be defiant about it 😂 On the other hand, you do you. You’re a great whiskey taster, and it doesn’t seem to bother you, right?
Bill Nye Science Guy look out.... this is some serious Science Stuff right here.... Dang Cody drinking all the Pappy with Julian Van Winkle III, no wonder we can't get any Cody's drinking it all.... Have a Wonderful Week Everyone, Cheers 🥃🥃
Matt I’m all for listening to “bourbon royalty” however this Gangster totally disregards the 5th taste we get on the pallet “umami” so I believe you should continue to taste it the way you have been tasting and give that 23 year old bugger the best SJ you’ve ever given in your life. Keep your mind on Sj’s
Hey Matt, something tells me this giveaway comment is not real, I’ve never seen it before this video. If you find the time could you please verify if these are fake? It worries me because I sent my email to the link posted. Have a great weekend. Thank you for last night’s amazing Matt madness
fuckin' love the zbiotics rules.... take this, drink water and don't drink too much and sleep and wow.. no hangover. same thing happens without the "take this" part. just drink water, don't drink too much and sleep and wow.. no hangover.
If it's your profile and you enjoy it, no shame in being honest about it. Not everyone likes oak, so I get why they don't like it. Hell, I wish I could get a sample like this just to try it once in my life, like it or not.
Counter argument. By coating the glass, with your fancy SJ, the essential oils that would make their way into your mouth and throat are left in the glass. Then get washed down the drain when you clean the glass. You might as well have just poured it down the drain. PVW is too damned expensive to wash down the drain Matt. ;p

Hate it when I rent the wrong hotel room. Lmao. In all seriousness (?) - Julian is a clown.
Be kind no swirly 💩 thanks for teaching
I started drinking alcohol 18 years ago as a teenage, spent my whole life fighting alcohol addiction. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
YES very sure of Dr.alishrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
How do I reach out to him? Is he on Instagram

Does he make delivery across the country?
"I'm just going to set it down there...reeeeeaaal careful, don't want to upset it...THIS 1/2 oz of Pappy's 23, is getting an SJ." 🤣 God I love this channel! keep up the good work Matt!
I was gonna say the exact same thing 😆 I laughed out loud 🤣
"Don't shake your bourbon, you might upset it."
but also
"Major brand ships bourbon all across the world for retail distribution via freight company that gives precisely negative-one fucks about how it's handled."
Please never stop making videos! Hilarious content that informs at the same time. Love the channel.
That had me laughing the entire way through it. Super glad you enjoyed the sample….and I got that bad boy at retail! 😃
Good man
Daaaaang!!
Retail, that's awesome!
Julian looked so unprepared in that video. It’s like he was going about his day and out of the blue he sat in front of a camera with a dude he never met and someone said "ACTION!" without knowing what the dude was going to ask him. Weird.
Ya...he seems kinda awkward
How is it possible that you don't have the most subscribers on whiskeytube? Keep it up, no one does it like you
Saw that video and somehow knew this video was coming sooner or later. Simply brilliant! 😂
"It's not wine...wine doesn't have alcohol" 🤣
i remember one of your older videos and you were talking about someone telling you not to swirl the whiskey in the glass. If all the "aggravation" the bourbon encounters during transfer, bottling, packing , shipment, etc... does not "aggravate" the bourbon... a few swirls in the glass is not going to hurt a thing.
Common sense is so uncommon. Thank you for your fact based sanity check.
This 23 year whiskey gave Matt 23 seconds of total zen starting at 14:02.
This video is hilarious, Matt. I watched the video with Julian a few days ago and was completely befuddled by his nosing recommendation. I will continue to swirl away.

Idk what SJ means but seeing this guy I wouldn't be surprised if it was a term he made up that stood for swishjob? 🤣
You’re my new favorite whiskey tuber
I really needed you to put on a full ninja suit when b4 you 'sneaked' up on that second glass of Pappy.
Thank you for making me laugh out loud tonight. Needed this video today! Cheers!
I just watched that video yesterday and thought of you immediately when he said not to give it an SJ lol. Perfect timing on your video.
This may be one of the best videos I've seen lol! Cheers buddy 🥃
I hope you took LOTS of notes Matt...just think how good you'll be at tasting whiskey in the future with all of this new knowledge.😁😉

Matt, I completely agree with you about swirling.
It cracks me up when I see you acting like you don’t know what you are doing and you absolutely know what you are doing! Keep it up! Great and funny stuff!
I have no idea what I'm doing.
Was totally gonna say that buffalo trace glass he was using was not good for sipping😂😂😂 and them you said it…hilarious!!!!
Adding air into any solvent changes circumstances in one way or another. It's nice to appreciate the aspects of things as they open and close in many different ways. Oxygen is very powerful. There are many ways to experience something.

Another 15 min well spent---- Thanks & Cheers !
Only thing I learned is that I'm going to give my next pour one heckuva SJ.
Great stuff! Really enjoyed this WW.
I was treated to a high end bourbon tasting at the Fountain Inn in DC...the owner went nuts when I gave the Pappy 15 an SJ.
The sneak up had me dying, oh dear lord you are a funny funny man.
Best Pappy 23 review ever dude. Love it. Please make videos till you’re 99 years old. God bless.
As a newbie to Bourbon I have jumped in with 2 feet for the last year or so. Thanks for The Kinsey Report!!
The guy makes good whiskey, but he doesn't seem to know a lot about the art of tasting it. Oh...and you aggravated it SO hard. That SJ aggravated the heck out of it. So much that all the aroma had to leap into your nose in protest.
Si, great content as always!
One thing I missed was I have to drink Pappy Vanwinkle out of the bottle, Sh*t now I have to travel to Oregon to pick up a case ! And yes the Pappy Vanwinkle family is whiskey royalty love that brown nectar!!! Very entertaining video /// peace y'al
well, i feel like an IDIOT now... ive been doing it all wrong for years!
FRIGGIN HILARIOUS !!!!!! KEEP THEM VIDEOS COMING MATT
10:00 I feel like he made it weird.. haha 🤣
“I hope this doesn’t come across as disrespectful…” followed by being disrespectful.
I'm with you. Drink it however you want. I don't agitate furiously but I do lean the glass to cover the inside to fully get the aromas. Cheers 🥃
I think he is right about the swirling. I preliminarily coat the glass and do an initial swirl, but then let it sit for a while. I agree with him, as soon as you swirl you get way more ethanol and fumes. This is just my experience. But, I agree that his glass is garbage.
Matt, that was right up there with some of your top videos. You are one funny son of a cawk !
Rating this video a 9.5 Matt... cause it was outstanding.
I watched that video, and I remember laughing later in the video when he swirls the glass just like he said not too. So even he can't not swirl it.
RUclips needs more people making content like Matt on other stuff. This is the perfect amount of information and absolute entertainment.
All I learned is that oils have smells….and they multiply making more smells….and I need a dishwasher….
I saw the video with Julien a couple weeks ago and I immediately thought of you when he said not to swirl it! I'm so glad you decided to show the supposed "expert" how it's done! Great video!
He isn't a supposed expert, ha.... but sure, swirl it if you want to.....
Here I am with Turkey 101...
Opps, spilled a little.
Bah.
Best bang for the bucks I'll save.
Don't sell yourself short . . . If I had more hands, I'd use them drink bourbon !!
We only follow direction from the world's best whiskey taster...that guy doesn't know calf scours from Apple butter, Matt!
Good lord that was hilarious! Good laugh on a day I needed it. Thank you.
If it’s 23 years old… then it was barreled in 2000 or 1999. That’s before Buffalo trace bought pappy. Would this mean you have stitzel weller pappy??!
That was one of your best!! Be you, that’s why we watch you 🥃
Well, I’m happy Julian said it: “Don’t swirl it, it’s not wine” 😊 Seriously, watching Matt swirling the whiskey always drives me crazy 😅 It doesn’t help, Matt! On the contrary .. And you don’t have to swirl the whiskey to coat the glass, but I guess you already know that. So there’s no reason to be defiant about it 😂

That guy reminds me so much of Jim Lahey from Trailer Park Boys, which makes his name Julian even funnier haha... "let the whiskey do the thinking"
Matt I’m all for listening to “bourbon royalty” however this Gangster totally disregards the 5th taste we get on the pallet “umami” so I believe you should continue to taste it the way you have been tasting and give that 23 year old bugger the best SJ you’ve ever given in your life. You do you, Boo. Solid advice right there from WTWT. PS - IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR ELIMINATION ROUNDS OF MATT MADNESS!
I absolutely love watching your videos!! Very informative and hilarious!! I am laughing so hard during the SJ part, that I am crying!! LOVE IT!!
fuckin' love the zbiotics rules.... take this, drink water and don't drink too much and sleep and wow.. no hangover. same thing happens without the "take this" part. just drink water, don't drink too much and sleep and wow.. no hangover.
What brand glasses do you use in your videos Matt? I dig the look
Looking good slim!
As a compromise I will cease all swirling of adult beverages that exceed $99
I totally saw the video and thought about you Matt. Spin that whiskey!
LOL u made me LOL so many times had to sub and go on a binge of ur channel
Dude I love your channel!!!
Friggen hilarious how you snuck up on that little bugger.
PVW is too damned expensive to wash down the drain Matt. ;p
I guess you're joking but on the same note I would answer what better alternative is there anyway that is better overall? And on a fully serious note I didn't fully understand his explanation on that but one thing I was thinking is even if the whiskey grabs all that residue (from the dishwashing liquid or detergent I guess) it will still be mixed in the whiskey. They won't just disappear will they? Maybe they're better masked at best but maybe I'm missing something. That reminds me of a recommendation made by that older guy that has some videos on RUclips promoting the Dalmore 42 and other stuff. He pours the whiskey, squishes around and throws away all of it (behind him on the floor too). In order for any residue to go away apparently. And then he pours the whiskey that's meant to actually be consumed and proceeds to smell, drink etc. Not sure what parts serious vs joking he is but that seems like an interesting concept which if done carefully and in a way that has been thought through and organized it may actually work fairly well. And maybe there's ways around outweighing the cons.
If I want advise on how to market scarcity on great bourbon, I’ll turn to VW3.
But I agree that video looked a little like they woke him early from his nap to do a surprise video.
Let’s try and get a ADHD fan who happens to be in chemistry to break down the differences in the two glasses of any bourbon.
Is more alcohol released in an SJ vs a rest? Are the fumes given off the two glasses detectably different, or just in your mind?
Science can tell us more than inheritance!
Brilliant video, thanks!
Most I ever learned about bourbon tasting was from Limestone Branch Distillery - They explained to smell from right to left, focusing on 1 nostril at a time. Just like the right and left halves of your brain do different things - so do your nostrils. One side will tend to be more savory and the other will be more sweet. Helps you dissect different profiles before sipping - and since most of your taste comes from what you smell - more distinct smells = more profound bourbon tasting experiences.
If you have to ask what an SJ is, you can't afford it.
That Pappy video was so wrong in so many ways. Ill-scripted, ill-produced, ill-presented, wrong glassware, wrong words, boring environment, zero interaction (who the heck was that other guy?), zero entertainment, zero education… just so blown away at how un-professional it was, particularly for “bourbon royalty.” Matt on the other hand did a smash up job…. Wait a second, is Matt angling for an inside job with the Van Winkle family????
Holy hand grenades, Matt. The one thing about his tutorial was that he wasn’t stuffy and pretentious. But I must agree with you, not educational. You’d never know his pedigree. Too funny.
Throwing Pappy under the bus and saying "F' it". Nice.
😂😂😂💀💀💀 I literally thought the same when I watched that video. You’re the best!
The first thing I thought was, well that's one way to do it. He may make great bourbon but he's NOT the WTWT.
You are definitely not a fraud. I am always impressed with your tasting skills. I have bought many whiskey based on your recommendation. plus you are always entertaining and make me laugh. so cheers. I also just sent you an email with an idea I have. cheers.
Wonderful video! Sarcasm is our friend.
My mouth is watering…
I don’t think you are getting a Thanksgiving Day supper invite to the Third’s house …. maybe a Groundhog’s Day or Arbor Day invitation … but definitely not Thanksgiving Day supper.
This is the best, most funny whiskey video I have ever seen.
Matt, you are the man.
Matt just like to say you look good my dude keep up the good work on your diet and thanks for your content. Like ol Joe derrtay said keep on keeping on brother. Life's a garden dig it.
Matt if F'n hillarious and correct on this one. Give it a good swirl and you aren't going to hurt **** of the whiskey. Also enjoy it as you like it. Apparently Booker's or Jimmy Russell's wife liked her bourbon with sprite or 7-up. Great for her. Some people like it on a rock, others neat, others with 3 drops of holy water. Whatever floats your boat people; Then ask, "do I like it or do I not like it." There you go! Doesn't even need a 15 minute video unless you can throw in humor like Matt!
Both coating the glass and letting the bourbon mix with oxygen would change what’s in the glass.
I have to say that I've had Pappy 23 on multiple occasions, and I am one of those who thinks it's overrated. I would never, ever pay secondary prices for it. If I can get a bottle at MSRP or in a raffle, fine. Honestly, I'd probably just turn around and sell it to someone. It's not worth the ridiculous prices you're likely to find it at. There are many other $200ish bourbons out there that are equivalent or better.
Thanks for this one, Matt. Freakin Hilarious!
If I were a glass of whiskey I would be agitated at not getting a good SJ. Everybody needs a good SJ on a regular basis.
I see what you did there. 🙂
I prefer stemless crystal wine glasses over my glencairn snifters. Not only do they hold 10oz of whiskey but I pick up more smells 😂😂😂
That's not a Van Winkle its Mr Jim Lahey from Trailer Park Boys.
I like the single bourbon reviews you do or the double bass like Mash&Drum does it, but still my favorites and gold standard is the double blind. I would love to see more of those from the whiskey tubers.
@MattPorterADHD Scam!!! Scam!!! #fake
I’ll try both, I think the low proof point makes JVW not want to loose any, while the SJ brings out more different flavors but possibly less alcohol? I have not have the privilege of tasting such glory as a PVW23. Cheers Matt
😅😅😅 Matt one of my favorites! Hall of fame my friend 🙌
