I seen nearly 20 years ago on the Disney Channel that Disney interviewed Johnny Rzeznik personally about this song and its meaning and so on. It was a Disney Channel special that went on around the time Treasure Planet came out. I know I just contradicted myself or changed up my story it seemed but the interview that Disney did with Johnny Rzeznik didnt play the entire song. Only bits and pieces of it as if they didnt want to completely spoil it.

Verse two deals with a girl or someone that the Protagonist is Seeking out. Finally verse three, or the Bridge as it's called, deals with the Person and how they want what the People I serve and the people I preach to want. Something Better than what this world wants you to be. It FOCUSES to the person that the Protagonist admires, cares about, looks up to, or worries about that they REMAIN there for ALL people that they want to help.
