It aired at Christmas at the same time with Harry Potter and Disneys own Christmas movie sequal. Disney kinda sent it out to die because of their differences with which way they should take their company. They even had a sequal written, but the box office results killed it. So yeah, thank Disney

I think it was the late '80s when my buddies older brother who ran the boards at a local radio station gave me a cassette with the Goo Goo Dolls stuff on it and said they're going to be the next big hit. They weren't quite the smash he thought they were going to be but anyone who has hits like they've had is certainly a success.
2021! I just watched treasure planet again this year. I will let my kids watch the movie and tell them how i feel when i',m watching it when i was young.

Disney actually announced a Treasure Planet remake. 😆 hope they don't cripple its chances of succeding this time because this film is an animation masterclass with great story telling. They pretty much made sure it flopped the first time 'round, poor marketing and stuff like that.
