- I have created a compilation build video for our Garden Shack Build. This is a sped up version of all the build videos so you can see the complete construction in 30 minutes.
The individual build videos can be viewed here.
• Urban Vegetable Garden
If you have ever thought “I would love to build an Aussie Country Shack” stop thinking and just do it.
I have minimal building experience but have learnt a lot watching others on you tube. Make a start and see what happens.
Hope you enjoy the Video.
Opening song - Tupelo Train by Chris Haugen
Second Song - Eagle Rock by Wes Hutchinson - Наука
Absolutely adore this build mate. I'm only young, but wanting to buy land out in the bush and build my own fairly small house on it as I'm an apprentice, so I rlly appreciate the time and effort it took you to do this, let alone record it at the same time!!
Glad you enjoyed it. My theory is to build a bunch of small buildings like this on a property. Separate Kitchen, Sleeping Quarters, Living space etc. Simple functional constructions. We do not need 40 Squares to live in. A bedroom where your body heat warms the room is a pretty good option.
The hairy 4 legged supervisors did a lot of inspections
They do like their new house. Pretty sure they think it was made just for them.
My very first thought.
One worker, one (girl) beautiful helper and two 4 legs supervisors great job
"
Agreed =They seem to be a happy pair.
I'm from Brazil but my biggest dream is to live in Australia for the rest of my life, I really love Australia, living in a place far from everything, hugs...❤
Do whatever you can to get a plane ticket
Heaps of jobs build a shack anywhere you like
Hey man that house Is better than a apartament INFONAVIT from México 🇲🇽👏👏👏👏👍
Thanks. I does have a certain style to it. Just a Garden Shed really.
The music made me sleepy.... but I love how he did it all by himself! Bravo!
Someone related the video style to it to ASMR. Relaxes you. Glad you liked the Video.
Looks like he had help from the girl in black shorts and top and of course his dogs:-)
Very clever man. One day I would like to have a go at making something like this.
Well done you amazing job. 😊
Wish we could have seen it more in real time so nice to see aussies building thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it. There are quite a few videos on the channel showing the build in normal time. Including an off grid solar system.
@@simonhahnel8092 I just saw that I'm definitely going to watch all of them i can't beleive how professional you look ...cutest place ever you should be proud
Well done take care be safe
Thanks. We all need to take more care than normal nowadays. Stay Safe.
I can almost hear the rain on the roof of your lovely cabin 🌧
I enjoy the pup watching you build. 🐕🐾🐕🦺
She doe love being part of the action. Does not want to miss a thing.
The dog just chilling is awesome!
She doesn't want to miss a thing.
Lucky bastard!! Living the dream!! Enjoy!!
Thanks for posting. I love the dogs and the VB
Dogs took any opportunity to steal my gloves and any tool that looked interesting. It was a pretty hot summer so needed to keep hydrated.
I love the way you handeled the task with a manual saw. I thought that without an electric saw you could not do the job, but you sir proved me wrong. Great job!
Thanks 👍. I did end up getting a drop saw for the treated external palings as they were so wet they were almost impossible to cut with a hand saw. It just stuck in the wood. I could have let them dry a bit but I was too impatient.
The furballs are cute, watching them instead & forgot why I came on here 🤣
Fascinating to watch, that guy really knows his stuff. Didn’t see a string line or a spirit level.
There was a string line and a spirit level to get the base frame up. After that it is tape measure all the way.
I really appreciate the effort you went to build and film this for everyone, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for uploading this. Much appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Baeutiful good work share thanks my friend good whatching projects 👍💯✅🤝🤝
Thank you! Cheers!
Good job Simon..!💪💪
Thank you for sharing, what an amazing hobby love it.
Your daughter is a trooper for helping. Of all the people in my family, my daughter is the one that would be right beside me getting dirty. Best helper ever.
Absolutely. Saved me going up and down the ladder another 50 times. My legs definitely appreciated it. She is also much better at measuring things than I am. I measure once cut 3 times.
@@simonhahnel8092 Ha ha, exactly, they may not think they are doing much, but it means the world in more ways than just having a good ground guy, or gal in this case. Take care.
Dogs just love watching us do stuff. Even if they have no idea why we're doing it.
They do. Pretty sure they are supervising their new kennel.
Lol ! it s si cute!!
Always a chance there may be some food involved
No ply--very impressive. Thank you for this inspiration.
Thank You. Ply not really the look I was going for. Looking forward to when the external cladding silvers off.
Looks like you got yourself a right fine helpmate. How good is God
A labour of love when you build something you enjoy doing. Very nice cabin love it. 👍
Thanks 👍. I did enjoy it for sure.
Thanks so much for sharing, you did awesome!!
Thanks. I have enjoyed every moment of the build.
Love this, thank-you for sharing
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
I missed a bunch watching the dogs :) They were just like mine when I added onto my house.. 'look a porch' (lays on porch).. 'look a floor' (lays inside) :) Excellent work!! :)
Thanks. I think the chocolate lab supervised the entire build. Granted, sometimes through closed eyelids.
The two dogs are lovable and funny!
They do like me spending so much time in the backyard with them.
The dogs 😍😍😍
Nice to see a Daughter supporting her Father.
Always nice to get a bit of help from the kids. Especially when ladders are involved.
Very much enjoyed this, great build, looking forward to seeing more, 🤙
Thanks 👍. More to come.

Great to watch. Beautiful result. Thanks for sharing🙏🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
great Australian bush😚😚😚😚😚 remembering me my trip overthere in 1984...your cabin looks great
Thanks, inspiration drawn from the High Country Cattleman's Huts.
Gave me an idea cabin to do in Tonga on the plantation. Awesome build and film. 👍 👌
Great job Simon, one of the best things I have seen in a long time. 2 things that really stood out for me, no tool belt and the VB cans. Pure Gold, well done Cobber
Yep. Nothing professional to see here. Just make it up as you go.
Yes, great work, curious to know what you do for a living, did't think tradie, because despite two pairs of well used boots, no tool belt, very few cans of beer and it took until almost the end of the video to see a site radio. I did notice a slab of water though lol.
Great effort mate, especially all the extra work moving ladders and temp clamping because you were on your own.
@@vf19blue Sorry missed this comment. I actually work in IT. Much prefer building stuff. Always need a few projects on the go. Water is for before 4pm on weekends.
@Liam.......are you drunk or high? If those is the best you have seen in a long time....seriously you need to get out more.
Nice looking tool belt at 30:00 and again at 34:14 I think you might need to cut back on the tins @liammotherway9397 !
So cool to watch being made with hand tools and few power tools.
Te felicito, excelente trabajo. Tambien te felicito por la fortuna de tener una hija que te ayuda y es solidaria contigo excelente educación bien por la familia, Dios los bendiga.
Thanks. Good exercise until the palings got to hard to cut by hand. Still wet from the treating. Had to go and buy a drop saw.
She helped me this weekend as well. Designed and built the ramp for our new chicken coop. Love having her out helping me. Also distracts the dogs so they go to her for pats and frees me up to get a bit more done. :)
Lovely little house.
Thank you!
Hey Simon,
That is very inspiring. It is similar to the design that I have been sketching since I was a kid, and now later in life would love to build something like this on some bush property with a lovely view. Thanks for taking the time to record all of this, I know that side of it takes a lot of time as well. Thanks and all the best as you now start to enjoy the fruits of your labour.
Chris
Thanks Chris. Appreciate your feedback and hope you get the opportunity to build one in the future. Stay Safe.
Oh my gosh I love watching the dogs.
And apparently they love watching me work. Need to get them some tool belts.
Really nice. That took me back some 30 years when I built something like that in Queensland!
Thanks, Its a good workout and at the end of the day you have achieved something. Yours still standing?
@@simonhahnel8092 Thinking about it, it was 40 years ago, not 30, and we used sapplings of the property instead of nice, squared timber. The roofing and weatherboards came from a wrecking yard. I haven't a clue whether or not it is still standing. It was a lot of fun building it. I see your dogs are assisting you in your works; I had a Blue dog at the time who did the same.. :-) I live in the Netherlands now, and have another Blue dog...
@@BabetteS I am building another shack like you have described. Much trickier.Dogs think it is their new Kennel. Blue Healer? In the Netherlands?
@@simonhahnel8092 It is much trickier using sapplings, but not really for an accomplished builder like yourself. Blue Heelers are my favorite dogs by a long shot, nothing comes even close. Ours is one year old now and is called Abigail, Abby for short...
Simon I had a blue healer in the mid 90's . A friend wanted him so bad but after 2 months he gave him back to us, he couldn't keep him. He wouldn't stop gathering up his horses. Our friend owned a business where he keep ppls horses. Everytime he would get them out of their stalls to excercise, buster the dog would round them up lol. To him he was doing his job. It's in their DNA. We lived in Tennessee USA. He had never been on a farm around animals in his life
Interesting to see from Australia, where I lived 3,5 years, when I was child 1960-1964.
Looks good, well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
Yes I enjoyedwatching this build.its beautiful thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely amazing!
Thanks
This guy is quick!
Absolutely beautiful. You did a wonderful job. Your wife? and furry friends did really well too. I think if the furry friends had hands you would have finished in half the time. They didn’t leave your side. What faithful companions you have.
Thank you. The dogs are very good company. Just a bit naughty at times with missing tools and gloves. They are however too cute to be cross with.
You are quite the craftsman, impressive work!
Thanks. I am just an amateur to be fair. But enjoying it thoroughly.
Great job mate awesome cabin love the dogs they make great supervisors God bless
Thanks 👍. Dogs are pretty happy with there new kennel. They definitely think it was made for them.
You made a beautiful cabin..I hope the two supervisors have approved.
Congratulations from Brasil.
They most definitely approve. They think it is their new kennel.
Simon, this is awesome. Thanks you for posting the whole process. Me and my wife are getting ready to move to Idaho, and I will be building something around this size for us to live in while we build our dream home.
Sounds Ideal. Best of luck with your build.
Love the style, music, choice of windows, little rust on the roof for character, trees for porch posts, floor and the gorgeous setting. Well done mate. I stopped in on my way to Antarctica each trip on Northwind and always had a marvelous time. Great folks, lovely attitudes, good to see it all here.
Thanks so much! We are a very lucky country for sure. Glad you have enjoyed your visits.
Yes the "oops OK well do it this way then" is definitely my favourite building style too. Cheers for the vid mate. 👍
Glad you enjoyed
Well done Simon! Love d shack. Dogs supervising was hilarious. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks George. Dogs are very happy with what appears to be their new kennel.
Hello beautiful people..thanks for sharing..lovely tiny house..
Thanks for visiting. Glad you enjoyed it.
@@simonhahnel8092 ..you're welcome..
Loved watching it happen.I could live in this one for beautiful tree next to it.
Glad you enjoyed it. The tree worked out well in the end. Nestles in there nicely.
Nice job mate. My old Boxer (Floyd) was with me every step of the way on my very first deck build. Priceless :-)
They do like to be part of the action. Even if it is to watch and get the occasional pat. Definitely mans best friend.
That's great, would love to see it when it's set up inside, would b so cosy ☺
Thanks. It is all finished on the inside now. You can se the build videos on my channel. The links are in the description of this video. Used a combination of corri tin and old hardwood palings.
Simon, that was a hard days work, I am beat. Good Job!
Thanks. Amazing what you can achieve in 30 minutes.
I see that the new library of the University of Woollloomooloo is coming on nicely, good on you, Bruce!
UFNET
Monty Python. Love it. Had to google.
@@simonhahnel8092 But serious, nice build. I wish i had the space for that, but here in the Netherlands space is a scarce commodity ....
But i don't think that Pommy Queen will open the building Bruce....
Haha. Ironically, Woolloomooloo is actually just east of central Sydney, and is a dense urban area which, since gentrification of the area decades ago, will cost you a fair chunk of cash to live in. Probably most well known for the Finger Wharf - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_Wharf - an enormous 100 year old timber wharf that was once one of the largest timber structures in the world, and is now converted to restaurants and luxury apartments. Russel Crowe had an apartment there, supposedly costing $14 million!
Wow. Thats a lot of work to do especially by woodhouse built.. I like this kind of buildings.🤩
Thank you 🤗. I have always wanted to build this type of shack. Bucket list item complete.
Wow wow you have made this build super simple for someone else to do & make it a tiny home thank you so much that is awesome
Thanks. Glad you like it! Just takes a bit of time and patience. In reality anyone can do it. I have no trade training and most things end of day, is a bit of RUclips research and common sense.
Brilliant little build stunning job for just one man ,good onya hope you both enjoy it
Thanks 👍. Already saved me hundreds of trips walking up our backyard hill to get the thing I had forgotten.
Great work, really satisfying to watch ☺️✊🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed it! Really enjoyed the build.
Nice work Simon!
Thanks Scott. It is great having a shelter next to the Vegetable patch. It now also collects water for the pond and 2200 ltr water tank which I use for the garden. I love sitting on the deck in the evenings watching the Turtles in the pond and listening to some good old Aussie tunes.
@@simonhahnel8092 Enjoying the fruits of good old fashioned work. I will be doing something similar shortly. All the best.
You made a heaven house.so beautiful and you are so skilled and talented uncle.💗💗
Last night I watched the High country Hut. Was amazed, astonished, delighted, by the beautiful proportions and creativity. Thank you!
Thanks Michael. Glad you enjoyed it. We have really enjoyed the build.
Going by the video that took you 36.5 minutes, so when you've got some free time can you drop by and knock one up for me, and bring the dogs they were obviously a big help. But seriously, I really enjoyed watching you work, I can watch people work all day, and you deserved that VB. Well done.
Well I am nearly done with my builds here, so supply me with resources and VB and the sky is the limit.
P.S. Total build was more like 60 minutes. I sped it up a bit. 😉
Amazing! Your dogs are super cute ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!! 😊. It a good thing they are cute given the trouble they get into. My tape measure is a favourite. Turns up all over the back yard. Gloves are another fun thing to play with.
Incredible something so beautiful was built with only a few handfuls of VB.
A good days work deserves a hard earned thirst. Important to stay hydrated in the summer months.
The picture of the cabin on the front of the video demonstration there's definitely something that I would build for myself it is quaint but yet loving and forgiving to a great wide open range of selflessness a great image inside of the picture of that leads this video piece
It is a very classic look. Simple yet functional.
Well done - Simon!! I really like it!
Thanks, Glad you enjoyed it.
Just plain awesome.
Glad you liked it 👍
All this on a can single can of VB. Give this bloke a carton and he'd build you the Taj Mahal. What a worker.
Thanks. Better than Spinach.
Very Good Place For Cabin
Well-done mate 👍
Thanks. Something I have always wanted to do.
I admit I never thought “I would love to build an Aussie Country Shack” - until now! I love how you used the tree trunks on the front porch.
Thanks. I have the good fortune of having access to a well treed property and can get good native timber as required. Well until corona lock down.
You're a handy bloke. Cheers!
Thanks. A bit less planning than I probably should but get there in the end.
Wow this is beautiful. Reminds when I was helping my cousin with his work, he's a carpenter. But I quit after 3 months and went to college.
Carpenters are gifted man.
Thanks. I like it. What are you studying? I am in IT for a living. Do this for fun.
@@simonhahnel8092 I'm studying public management.
Great build Video 👀, Love it!
Thanks. Glad you like it!
One of my favorite parts is the roofing
Yep. I wanted it to have that rustic look. Now I just need the walls to turn silver.
I like the way you did the siding, thanks for the video
Glad you liked it! I wanted vertical cladding and the cost effective solution was cypress pine fence palings. Gives that nice rustic effect I was going for.
May GOD Bless You All Always Amen MGBYAAA 😎 Looking Good.
Thanks. Good Health to you and your loved ones.
I DONT LIKE IT
I LOVE IT 😍😍😍
its like a breath taking when it almost done 👍👌👏👏
Thanks. Glad you loved it. It turned out pretty much as I had hoped.
your welcome Sir, im not a carpenter but im trying to be..its not an excuse or a measurement if you just have skill to do so specially this kind of work project.. Have a good one to you Sir Simon
So good to see an Aussie video instead of all the "Merica" stuff. Well done
Thanks, glad you like it.
Watching this with hubby. Congratulations mate. We loved the old school techniques and the end product. Good onya 👍👏
Thanks 👍. Spend most of my evenings down there now watching the turtles in the pond and tending the vegetable garden.
Que capricho nessa linda casa. Parabéns

She does love me unconditionally. Tripped over her about 3 times today. She loves human company.
That's pretty nice Simon. Can you upload another vid when you finish the inside.

Good observation. I think I lost about 10kg during the 3 month build.
Wow... So amazing.. Nice simple cabin...I'm watching how to build simple cabin... Do ur best sir... I love ur work.... I'm new subcriber... From Philippines...
