Yeah there has been many arguments that the song is about drug use and the relationship between the 'dealer' and 'user'. Then there's the discussion it is referring to the relationship between an 'Adult worker' and the 'client'. But honestly it's how you interpret it is what truly reflects from inside yourself and the meaning your subconscious finds from it.
I saw Sneaker Pimps live in 97. They blasted onto the scene and then never hit the heights with subsequent albums. The whole triphop scene started from two bands from Bristol, Massive Attack and Portishead
well smith and mighty were there as well but you're sort of right. I grew up in bristol in the 90s yes you had the three big ones but you also had earthling etc who were awesome.
A classic trip-hop tune. There was a lot of good music in that genre in the 90s. Check out Thievery Corp, Portishead, Massive Attack, Zero 7, etc... A good place to start might be some tunes from the Portishead Roseland NY concert. It's really well done. Of course a lot of it was probably written on the assumption the listener was doing X, and it tends to appeal to folks in that state of mind.
Depeche Mode, Love and Rockets, Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers, and Garbage, and started to listen to techno about this time too if memory serves. A year or few after this were artists like Paul Oakenfold and IIO to name a few.
Such a jam!!! Thank you Maddy for bringing me back to the lare 90s. Really cool vibe and absolutely agree with your reaction/review. I would definitely recommed Portishead "Sour Times". I was listening to them and One Republic as well. You are always so beautiful and lovely Hun. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Interesting Factoid: One of the people trapped in the rooms is Laura Prepon from 'That 70's Show'. She was 14 when she was in London doing a model shoot and her agent managed to get her in to the casting call for this video. This is believed to be her first on camera "gig". She's the actor in the pink top, black skirt and the white chair in her room.
Sneaker Pimps hit hard in the 90's. I remember. But up until now, I had never known what they looked like. I thought it was a girl band. But as others have mentioned, they were big for a couple of songs. But they are just too artsy to last long. The song is still one of my favorites ever especially when I'm in a certain kind of mood... Yes, the vibes....
fun fact [?] the oddly prominent canine look started an entire movement in Japan to have those same canines. (ok, I dont know if that is 100% true... but within a couple of years following this album's rise in popularity on the global stage, the prominent canines became VERY popular in Japan.)
Becoming X is an incredible album . . . Even though she's not in the band anymore, and they have a new singer . . . you should listen to her album KELLI ALI - GHOSTDRIVER her producer on it, is one of the guys in the original Sneaker Pimps . . . sounds like a new Sneaker Pimps album
They've gone their own way since this song and album, but I've followed Kelli's path...Psychic Cat, Tigermouth, she went folk on Rocking Horse (completely organic with that unique voice), and back to electronic with Band of Angels and Ghostdriver. She's now an artist, and a pretty good one too. Very talented Human.
I see some comments recommending Portishead and agree completely. Glory Box and Strangers from the studio albums are great as are any of the songs from the Roseland NYC live concert.
Hi Maddy! Thanks for dropping a Friday premiere to start off the weekend. This song is definitely a vibe. It's always great seeing your smiling face! ✌️☮️🇨🇱💯🇺🇸🔥🎵❤️
Love this song. Thanks, Maddy. Trip-Hop at its very best. This whole album is great. Other good songs are "Post-Modern Sleaze," "Low Place Like Home," and "Wasted Early Sunday Morning."
From memory this came out just as grunge had had its day as much as i liked the stuff we needed the mellow vibe of this i remembered it being quite big in the UK
If you enjoyed this song, you will definitely like the band Garbage from the same time period. They are a bit more rock, but similar vibes for some of their material.
They were one of those bands who were quite cool to like at the time, I was never a huge fan of the succession of remixes every song seemed to get at the time but their other hit Spin Spin Sugar was one of the few hits of the era which was massively improved in it's many remixed versions, in hindsight one of those bands which never really had much meat on the bone to be fair, they were overshadowed by far superior similar bands like Goldfrapp and Portishead.
I really liked morcheeba THE SEA its in the same trip hop genre maybe a liitle less out there than this but i liked it dont know if they made the states though
Sneaker Pinps was essentially the two guys in this, and they then brought in Kelli Dayton (aka Kelly Ali) and then they scored mainstream sucess and then stupidly they dropped her and they disappeared forever... Chris Corne deciding to do his own vocals
Oh wow, I remember when this came out and waiting till like midnight for MTV to play the video. But, I thought, what if those rooms were his personalities.
A great band from this time to checkout is the prodigy. Fat of th land came out in 97, it blurred the lines between genres to the point that a dance act could headline the biggest metal festival in the uk.
“90s videos are so random”…I guess it would appear that way. But to those of us in this age group at that time, each of the little montages has a meaning. Then again, they did a lot of stuff just to make you argue about what it meant.
"Don't think I understand, I care. Don't think cause I'm talking, we're friends." Are some BRUTAL lyrics.
Oooh

One of the best tracks of the 90's .. So smooth 😎 & sultry. 👟
Check out their tune "Spin Spin Sugar"... Theirs a brilliant live version on "TFI Friday Chris Evans Show".

So true
The track, the band and the genre are definitely a vibe. Other great 90's trip-hop artists Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky etc 🔥
I'm gonna have to tack Mazzy Star onto that list.
Morcheeba too
fun fact [?]
the oddly prominent canine look started an entire movement in Japan to have those same canines.
(ok, I dont know if that is 100% true... but within a couple of years following this album's rise in popularity on the global stage, the prominent canines became VERY popular in Japan.)
The brassy music sample in the background is actually from a scene in a 1960s James Bond movie
Yup, it's from Goldfinger. Soundtrack by the legendary composer John Barry.
A very atmospheric song from the mid 90's. 👍
First time I've seen this or heard of the band. Excellent.
Becoming X is an incredible album . . .

The version without the sample "I want soup, I want soup, I want soup..." is better.
They don't make great music like this now a days. They don't know how to.
Ah pumped up kicks. So dark and so innocent sounding.
Im old sex pistols old. Randomly listened to this song and like it.
A song about The Great Reset; "you will own nothing and be happy." Make sure you stay in your own box!
oh do you think? ahead of it's time if you're right.
if i remember correctly is about being stuck in a small town and being over it/ out grown the small town
I see some comments recommending Portishead and agree completely. Glory Box and Strangers from the studio albums are great as are any of the songs from the Roseland NYC live concert.

Davidellis5141 took the words right out of my mouth. Next to grunge, trip-hop is my favorite music from the 90's. Also loved Zero 7 and Portishead.
Love this song. Thanks, Maddy. Trip-Hop at its very best. This whole album is great. Other good songs are "Post-Modern Sleaze," "Low Place Like Home," and "Wasted Early Sunday Morning."
Anyone recognize the sample in the wild wo looking it up? You’ve probably seen it
From memory this came out just as grunge had had its day as much as i liked the stuff we needed the mellow vibe of this i remembered it being quite big in the UK
check out Ruby Velle's Nah, Nah, Please. Great song too. Kristin Mainhart haas some nice stuff along similar lines to the SP's
If you enjoyed this song, you will definitely like the band Garbage from the same time period. They are a bit more rock, but similar vibes for some of their material.

such a smooth vide to it.
This was a fave of mine back in 90s UK
similar vibey songs to this would be "protection" and "unfinished sympathy" by massive attack.
I really liked morcheeba THE SEA its in the same trip hop genre maybe a liitle less out there than this but i liked it dont know if they made the states though
This uses a sample from the soundtrack for "Goldfinger"
Sneaker Pinps was essentially the two guys in this, and they then brought in Kelli Dayton (aka Kelly Ali) and then they scored mainstream sucess and then stupidly they dropped her and they disappeared forever... Chris Corne deciding to do his own vocals
Love the samples in this classic. Nobody ever mentions the ''A-one two, a-one two'' one from De La Soul - Breakadawn.
This is an edit by Nelly Hooper, not the original.
@@underground_miami Yeah I know. There were loads of mixes when it came out.
This is a chilled out groove
Lovely!
Oh wow, I remember when this came out and waiting till like midnight for MTV to play the video. But, I thought, what if those rooms were his personalities.
don't think cause I'm talkin', we're friends ;

I would say creative and cool, not random. Fun.
I remember this song it is great,
I was listening to a lot of the band Garbage around this time, I believe.
They were called "Sneaker Pimps" because they used to help find cool sneakers for the Beastie Boys....
“90s videos are so random”…I guess it would appear that way. But to those of us in this age group at that time, each of the little montages has a meaning. Then again, they did a lot of stuff just to make you argue about what it meant.
Becoming X is a really awesome album, Kellie Alli is amazing, but the rest of the band were sus.
On one Toe, On one Toe 🙂
It's always a pleasure to see you Maddy. Song with a nice melody, but confusing meaning in my opinion.
Great reaction ❤
"Overground"
Let’s see what’s up…hey I know this song. 🎶 dig.
Very interesting commentary👍🏼
This song is great but I think their song bloodsport is much better
Good song 🤔
Nothing that stands out 🤷
Enjoy your Adventures ✌️😎❤️
Overground, not overgrown.
Ahh
