These last few albums have all been innovative classics. They manage to sound like Voivod while still moving forward. Chewy is one of the best guitarists in metal, bar none
Wow !! I gave Voivod - Synchro Anarchy a listen and it Metal Rocks !! I will definitely buy this CD !! Thank you, Pete for mentioning them !! All the damn time. 🎤🎸🎵🎹🥁 Life is better with music.
Amazing album by one of my all-time favorite bands! 🤘I still find it incredible that they were able to find someone to replace Piggy (RIP) but Chewy has truly been a godsend.
As a big Fan since 1986... i love almost everything they did. Chewy is just amazing, never thought anyone could fill in piggys footsteps, he does it very well. That beeing said, i feel like this is rockys coming out. The Bass is amazing and all over the place. The Sound over all is just perfect.. long time that i heard such a natural, crisp, transparent Sound on an album. Everyone has his space... yes, its a late masterpiece i would say. Maybe my album of the year...
Voivod sounds as vibrant now as they did when they released Nothingface in '89. It's astonishing. I think this is my favorite album of theirs since The Outer Limits. Man, it's a great time to be a Voivod fan!
Such a great album! Post-Society is my fave from this lineup, but this one continues the excellent work they've been doing with their last three releases. Voivod rules!!! No one like them.
It's absolutely remarkable that, while we are familiar with their unique formula, they continue to write albums that appear to be from another planet. For me, more so than The Wake, the songs seem to glue together to form a much larger story that doesn't really on individual chapters. There almost appears to be primer to each fragment of the album that ties it all together. Whether or not that's a conscious approach, it's simply genius writing.
This album is currently my favorite of the year. Voivod are always consistent when it comes to progressive thrash metal and this album is no exception.
Already one of my favorites of the year! I liked this more than the awake, I agree it's a lot more brooding and proggy. I honestly felt that on this album they really cover new ground and the second half is absolutely mind-blowing. Some of the rhythm guitar parts are gorgeous and mesmerizing
This album is incredible. It took 4 or 5 listens for me to unpack it all. Now it’s one of my all time favs. This band is on fire! Nobody else sounds like this! They’re in a class by themselves. I never thought they’d top The awake but they might have here! Incredible!!
Another great album from this legendary band. The Wake totally killed it four years ago and this one is great as well. By the way, I have been listening to a prog metal album that came a couple of mounths ago in the Frontiers Music Label. It´s called "Paint the Sky" by Lalu. It was composed by the french keaboardist Vivien Lalu with the collaboration of Damian Wilson (Headspace and Threshold). It also includes other featurings such as Steve Walsh (Kansas), Jordan Rudess (DT) or Jens Johansson (Stratovarius) among other. The disc blends very well that instrumental virtuosism from "traditinal prog metal" with a modern and outstanding production. Vivien knows how to create the atmospheres perfectly with his keaboards. If you haven´t listen to it I recommend it to you beacause I think you may enjoy it. Greetings Pete!
I think so many classic greats are coming back with outstanding albums is because the label pressure is gone. There isn't the subtle (and not so subtle) "direction" from labels to follow trends, to make an MTV-friendly hit to move units. We don't have 80s thrashers trying to make grunge or nu metal anymore. We don't have 70s prog weirdos trying to make new wave. Artists are making the art THEY WANT to make, and the results are showing. I firmly believe we are in an absolute golden age of music, where everything is available and we have guys like Pete, and others (check out Terminal Passage or 666MrDoom if you haven't already) to trawl full time through the huge variety of music available, and point out the gems. Thanks!
Great review Pete. The last few Voivod albums have been great . Lovin this one. Pete you might want to check out Evolve a strong progressive metal act . 1st album Choose Your Path came out in 2020 . Second album coming out this year. Fantastic band . Crunchy in your face guitar lines and amazing vocals . Very strong band worthy of your attention !
That Album is great and a lot more Straight Foward than The Wake. I don't know which one I liked the most thought. But it's very good album. I have the Deluxe Edition and It has a great 2018 Shows as bonus material.
My band has been fortunate enough to open for Voi Vod back in the early 90’s and I will always remember how kool they’d been despite the language barrier only to find out how much they were actually huge fans of our own band at the time PostMortem! We played at Salisbury Beach 🏝 in Massachusetts for a shitbag who didn’t wanna pay 💰 our $1k and appropriately became their own club’s title Chapter 2 going Chapter 11! lol 😂 Easily some of the nicest people who’ve were both professional and at the same time; liked to party 🎈 with Us! Never forget having the rarer opportunity to play with and talk to my heroes from the Great White North! Whadda We Want!! Voi Vod of course! Canada’s answer to Pink Floyd for certain!! RIP 🪦 Piggy 🐷 We’ll all miss you 😢 Sincerely yours truly xoxo David J Goldbaum of Boston Massachusetts 02134 USA 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 now Amerikkka 🇷🇺 🇨🇳
I've not heard a whole lot of their recent albums, but I absolutely love this one. It's between this and Venom Prison's Erebos for my favorite album of 2022 so far!
This lineup is their best since their classic era. Hope they continue to grace us with music for many more years to come. Truly a unique and innovative band.
Just checked out a little bit of the album and from what I heard I had to buy this. I went to a record store today where on their website said in stock. Got their they didn't have it instore only though their website. Needless to say I bought it from their website can't wait to get it. I Need to check out more of Voivod discography I'm sure I won't be disappointed
Voivod is my favorite band (sorry Ryan 😁) and although I enjoyed the Wake, I find myself preferring this one. The highlight here is Rocky's bass sound !
Voivod is just one of those bands I just can't get into. I've tried several different albums and nothing. I'm going to give this a couple of spins and see if they finally click with me. and Pete, LFGM! Hopefully, the lockout is almost over.
The Wake is probably my favorite album behind Dimension Hätross, the concept and overall theme that album brings is a much more thoughtfully put together album but I still really think this album is great! The bass and guitar interplay is top notch and the songs are super fun in general
Especially after 89’ I figured voïvod started presenting themselves as a ROCK band. No more no less. In that sense they outdo themselves all the time. They made it Rock interesting again.
I'm amazed how Chewy took over Piggy's place. A subtle mix of tribute/copy + innovation (Chewy's technique is superior to Piggy but Piggy is the one who invented the unique style/sound/groove of Voïvod). What a great addition to the band.
As someone who isn't a thrash metal fan, there's a lot of Voivod stuff that I like - but "The Outer Limits" is an absolute classic and the album most unlike everything else they have done.
sipping on a CARLING - ORIGINAL LAGER - .. enjoying, both the beer and listening to one of my favorite progressive acts: VOIVOD, the kings of sci-fi metal . .., having released 14 albums (between 1984 and 2018 with my favorites laying in 1989's "Nothingface", 1988's "Dimension Hatross") selected material from 1991's "Angel Rat" and 1993's "The Outer Limits" (the band had suffered some key personnel loses in the years passed) continuing on and at one time, hosting ex-Flotsam and Jetsam|Metallica's bassist: Jason Newsted in the fold! . .., this release is pure nostalgia and much too short in running time (wearing a truthful homage to their finest of previous efforts) and has much more appealing vibes, song structures than that of the last couple of albums: 2013's "Target Earth" and 2018's "The Wake".
This album is great and probably one of my favorite from them. I think it is better than "The Wake." I liked "Target Earth" a lot too. All three albums fit with the Nothingface and earlier era. One of my favorite songs on this album is "Quest for Nothing."
There's always a question of what style of Metal Voivod play and to me, there's only one answer...they play Voivod Metal. They mix many sub-genres and each member, past and present, have such unique styles. There's really no one that sound like them, some try but they don't come close. The fact that "Synchro Anarchy" is great should be no surprise to Voivod fans.
I think the reason why you'll find bands like Voivod are making such good albums these last few years is because of the label they're under. When bands were signed to major companies like Warner or Atlantic or Columbia, etc ,they were breathing down their neck and demanding more commercial albums. Since leaving or getting kicked off these because they didn't sell as well as they hoped, the bands are under labels that understand and encourage them to be who they want to be.
These last few albums have all been innovative classics. They manage to sound like Voivod while still moving forward. Chewy is one of the best guitarists in metal, bar none
No matter how uncertain the times have become, just knowing that Voivod are still out there and cranking out killer music, makes me smile.
The new Voivod is a classic, up there with their late 80's output, very impressive. Better than The Wake in my opinion.
Great Album.
Love these guys since War+Pain.
Wow !! I gave Voivod - Synchro Anarchy a listen and it Metal Rocks !! I will definitely buy this CD !! Thank you, Pete for mentioning them !!
All the damn time.

Best voivod studio album for so many years!! Voivooood🤘
Love what Voivid has been doing with their last few albums. This is no exception.

I ordered the vinyl and CD locally. I then went on an Amazon binge for some of the older albums I was missing. Great album.
More new music for the listening list. Thanks again, Pete, for the Wednesday new product shows.
This is the best album of 2022 so far. Absolutely exceptional and they have such a unique and innovative sound.
I know Martin is a big fan of Voivod. It would be interesting to get his take on the album. I’m a new fan. Thanks Pete.
PETE is like me “ cracked jewel case”. No DO no Do. Lol. Thanks for the review 👍💯
Have not bought anything by then since the 80s. Sounds like I missed out.

Piggy was a tremendously unique and idiosyncratic guitarist. Chewy has done a flawless job filling the space once occupied by the late great Piggy.
That Album is great and a lot more Straight Foward than The Wake. I don't know which one I liked the most thought. But it's very good album.

Not my cup of tea, but can't deny how consistent VoiVod are, with a dedicated fanbase. Here in Quebec they are considered metal Royalty.
This lineup is their best since their classic era. Hope they continue to grace us with music for many more years to come. Truly a unique and innovative band.
These guys are legends! I love the new output, Chewy is amazing 👏

I've been listening to it non stop since its release, instant classic. Voivod is awesome!

I grabbed one but haven't cracked it open yet. Based on your review I am really looking forward to it. Today might be the day I finally get to it.
Terrific album. They're as good today as they were when I was in high school. I graduated in 1994.
Great comments about THE wake .... thanks love it too
Great album…And I have NEVER received a cd from Amazon without a cracked jewel case.
I rarely do actually.
I just got an Amazon account recently. I've been lucky so far no cracked cases. My bank account hates me. I'm such a joneser.

This is probably on my top 10 this year. Great album 👌 I thought the Wake was awesome too! 4.8
Chewy is a fuckin MONSTER guitar player. Phenomenal band!
I am obsessed with the song "Synchro Anarchy"
VoiVod - Overkill - Testament - Corrosion Of Conformity - Death Angel - Ministry - All these Bands Seem to be Getting Better with Age...
Been really waiting for this one
My hometown's pride! Voivod's chef d'oeuvre?
There's always a question of what style of Metal Voivod play and to me, there's only one answer...they play Voivod Metal. 4:20, great Pete!!!
Dig it!! Voivod rules...
Really liked the album, just seemed a little short.
47:54 is not short! ...and at the intensity it has that is perfect. Just like old albums of 40 minutes.
A real downer a cracked case , not good for my OCD
LET’S GO METS!
Love it
Good reviews

6:22 ...and Death Angel!
Moral of the story voivod rules
Wow. The members of this band have some strange names.
I think it ain't no killer
all of the songs on the album sound the same
