Good choices. They have so many solid albums that it's really hard to choose and I find my top 5 usually fluctuates depending on my mood. Dimension hatross, nothing face and outer limits would be my top 3 tho if I had to choose. Love the wake too! Incredible songwriting 🤘
Outer Limits is a great choice possibly my fave too - it's definitely one of my favourite albums from the 90s from any band. It's such a positive album that reminds me of travelling not surprised you got it in your car.
My favorite Voivod album is Nothingface. I love Killing Technology, RRROARRR, War And Pain, Phobos, Outer Limits, Dimension Hatross, Infiniti, etc... The band have always had a way of great performances. This is a band that I have seen their live concert videos. Snake has a great voice. Piggy was a great guitarist. Away is awesome on drums. One day I would like to see them in concert. I collect alot of memorabilia on them like t-shirts, posters, etc... It is great for me to see metal bands get recognition like this.
Thanks for the updated ranking. I've been doing some re-listening also since the new album came out. We were very close; mine (with previous rank, album cover rank, and favorite song). EDIT: Updated after THREE weeks of binge listening to find the new record's place and to add my tiers. Some movement, but this is probably my definitive ranking with exception of the EXCELLENT tier. Whichever of these I'm listening to at the time tends to migrate upward. It's cool (and unusual for me) that the latest albums are near the top of my list. I usually stop listening to favorite bands once their sound "matures" or goes in a different direction. EDIT#2: After several more weeks of straight listening, I finally get and keep the KT vyrus so that it makes the big jump to the top. Removed commentary; nobody cares. EDIT #3: Some moves with SA aging very well. Edit #4: After 10 months, I finally had to add The Wake to Masterpiece Tier. Other moves. UNLISTENABLE 15. Infini (Prev-15, Cov-14, n/a) 14. Solid ranking, and good arguments for your choices. I for one, could never get into the Eric Forrester period. The Outer Limits as the best is an awesome choice!
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 I interviewed Snake, Away and Chewy already. You should interview them too, you know your Voivod and the guys are incredibly approachable! Here's my chat with Chewy, done three weeks ago: ruclips.net/video/RGmJR_5VviE/видео.html
I listened to Voivod discography for the first time yesterday at work and they are definitely interesting. They're definitely up there for me along with coroner and testament.
Voivod is one of the Bands I can't nail down for a ranking. Too many great albums. I usually put their records in tiers, so it gets a bit easier. Top tier: War and Pain, Dimension Hatröss, Killing Technology 2nd tier: Noithingface, The Outer Limits, Synchro Anarchy (has a chance of moving up to tier 1, when I still like it as much in a few years), Angel Rat, The Wake 3rd tier: Target Earth, Phobos, Negatron 4th tier: Voivod, Rrröööaaarrr, Katorz, Infini My ranking inside these tiers fluctuates a lot, but the tiers themselves are quite stable.
Listened to all the Voivod albums again since the Trenches Tier list. Some things have changed 15 Negatron 14 Infini 13 Nothingface 12 Angel Rat 11 Voivod 10 Katorz 9 Roooooooaaaaarrrrr 8 Target Earth 7 War and Pain 6 Phobos 5 The Wake 4 The Outer Limits 3 Synchro Anarchy 2 Killing Technology 1 Dimension Hatross
Voivod's new album really impressed me. I thought it was one of their best in a very long time but Voivod has always been very consistent. Here would be my ranking: 15. Infini 14. Katorz 13. Self-titled 12. Target Earth 11. The Outer Limits 10. War and Pain 9. Rrroooaaarrr 8. The Wake 7. Angel Rat 6. Synchro Anarchy 5. Negatron 4. Phobos 3. Nothingface 2. Killing Technology 1. Dimension Hatross
Man, what you started out saying with those three albums, I was just thinking something similar about an hour ago as I was walking home. There are some very good songs but they just don’t live up to the Voivod reputation. RRROOOAAARRR I’ve finally ordered on CD. I had a download and didn’t like it very much. I love War and Pain and Killing Technology though. I’m enjoying your video. Cool to hear your thoughts. I actually like Phobos, btw. Wow! Actually I find myself agreeing with you quite a bit!
I liked Katorz, when it first came out I listened to it a lot. But I agree...I don't go back to those 3 albums at all. I almost feel like I'm cheating on Piggy to say I like Target Earth and The Wake more(don't have the new album yet). After those 3 albums, I'd say I listen to Nothing Face the least. It's their most successful album, and I like it, I just like their other stuff more. I loved Phobos. I liked Negatron a lot, and the heaviness of that album reignited my interest in Voivod after I stopped listening to them for a number of years, but Phobos to me is a better album. I started listening to Voivod when they released War and Pain, for me it was the heaviest album at the time(that I'd heard), and every time I play it it still pumps me up in the same way Morbid Tales and Pleasure to Kill do. I go back to Out Limits a lot, and it's one of my favorites. No one ever seems to mention that Jack Luminous comes up in The Wake.
I have been a fan since Killing technology got released. I am also a HUGE fan of The Outer Limits, but I find the latest release close to it, especially the prominent bass sound.
RRROOOAAARRR feels like the debut… Yes! I fell the same way! If that had come first and then War and Pain it would have made more sense. I always imagine War and Pain to be just like a rattling, rumbling monster war machine that’s barely held together by loose bolts and wire.
yeah i was disappointed when i bought 'rrooaarr!!!' the day it was released. nice and sloppy, ugly nasty thrash mess it is, but it doesn't have the urgency of 'war and pain'. lacks the borderline psychedelic quality that made the ugly and brutal lovely and beautiful. it's a glorious mess, yes. but 'w&p' has that visceral 'oh my fucking god' balls to it that nothing else anywhere has. maybe being turned on at fourteen in 'eighty-four when anyone else w/ real ears to hear w/ and who was listening also said 'well fuck me' i don't know. 'suck your bone' was and is the deciding factor but there it is. 'go shit i'm not a fish! i'm gonna burn your home!'. yeah. voivod. we all agree, however, voivod fucking rules.
Impressed with the new album. Synchro. Funny they chose the worst songs as tasters before the actual album release. It’s early but the new album would probably be in the top 6-10. The last 6 tracks on the new album are kicking my ass!! Know one thing for sure. If I were to do a list the Forrester albums would be at the bottom. Not my cup of mead at all. Not bad both albums have some great songs to offer but not full albums imo. I see with some of these lists the new alvum is ranking fairly high. Glad I’m not alone!
@@fogzax I listened to Infini last night and think maybe I should rank it a little bit higher, but it's hard to crack the nostalgia of the old records.
astronomie domine. astronomy dah-mee-nay. astronomie domine. yes. voivod fucking rules. 'war and pain' is seriously number one tho. no other record like it nowhere. it's a sicksicksick record. and a debut no less. you're cool. as if. keep rocking hard rocker. yeah i'm always late. ps i'm probably older than your dad.
During the making of Katorz, Denis "Piggy" D'Amour died in August of 2005 of colon cancer and it really affected the band. He was a hell of a contributor for a number of years.

nice! Yeah and it's probably their easiest album to listen to on repeat while still having all the weirdness we love from Voivod
Dimension Hatröss is such a goddamn masterpiece, top 3-ish thrash records of all time.
hell yeah!
I love the way they did "Batman"
