      When he puts the bullbar on the headlight spread will diminish and so will the power when he’s kitted it out to weigh 500kg more than it does straight off the showroom floor.

    This is his job, content and engagement. I’m actually looking forward to the build and to see what it can and can’t do. We did a lap in our Prado, it was a great compromise between off road ability and fuel economy. Everyone has different needs. The biggest frustration for me is just how expensive this is.

    This will go down the same road as the Hi-Lux which I also predicted where he’ll rave about how good it is, kit it all out then sell it & admit afterwards he was disappointed & bored with it (I could only assume from the very beginning). He’s got 2 @ V8 70 series Cruisers that are manuals, the 2.8L auto for him won’t compare & he’s admitted many times how he’s not one for automatic 4wds. I think Toyota released a 2.8L cruiser so they can continue to sell V8’s from a carbon offset point of view. Offsetting a certain percentage of their V8 sales with 2.8’s so the V8 fun machine is still allowed still be sold.

    Toyota kept the same rear end purely on cost, hence the misaligned wheel tracking. They messed up the bonnet construction and you can see where the glue has a large gap between the frame and skin. 88k for a project car which resembles a pre production fit and finish is what it is.

    • @Clynikal
      @Clynikal 5 месяцев назад +3

      That’s a hot take.
      Why is everyone assuming different track widths is wrong? Most 4x4’s and heavy vehicles are designed like this, it helps with manoeuvrability on tight cornering and stability at higher speeds. It’s also great where you’re running aggressive side wall tyres because it pick up a little different traction lines.

This summer 4000km on holiday in Scotland and France it did not light up) even in other places in Belgium. My Toyota garage never heard of it even the tyre centers. Having migrated from a 4 Cylinder 2.8L Auto Prado to a 4.5L V8 Troopy a couple of years ago, I know both engines well.
    The 2.8L is a gutsy motor and performs well off road and even when towing a camper trailer. I am surprised that as you commented in an earlier video, that the space in the engine bay is so limited, that you can't fit a second battery in there - I was able to fit a second battery in my Prado with no trouble at all.
    I just know that your assessment on this vehicle will be thorough and definitive, so I look forward to following this project closely.

      Toyota sells the FJ45 Bandeirante in Brazil with that torquey, yet lazy old 4-pot Mercedes Benz OM314 circa 1964! At least this 2.8 is a modern turbodiesel, one that will become very popular. In South Africa 🇿🇦, the first FJ45'S were sold with GM 3.8 and 4.1 straight six petrol engines, known Down Under as Holden. Various Mercedes-Benz Diesel engines powered different LC models over the decades. Maybe that's why they were so reliable??

    Unless you MUST have the extra strength of solid axles, 3.5T GVM and Landcruiser engineering, the Prado and Fortuner make a lot more sense.
    The 70 series is now a 10year vehicle IMO like the rest of the Toyota fleet.

    to stop the bonnet flexing get a big dob (squirt) of Sixaflex to connect the lower ribbing to the upper bonnet skin (if the fap is really really big, ues a spacer (wood is goodfor a spacer as it sticks well to sicaflex)
    - This is likely a manufacturing defect from the factory not applying sufficient glue (sicaflex),
    OR they got she shape wrong and have too much clearance for the ammount of glue to fill
    either way, an easy and long term fix
    - just do it neatly with a suitable colour and dont make a big mess with the sicaflex (be neat, make it look factory neat
    OR take it back to toyota and get the dealer to "mess it up", no sorry, "fix it"

      The gaps are intentional and deliberate. Its due to the need for the bonnet to dent easily during a pedestrian impact. Easy to fix but removes it's functionality and possible legality. I bet that a bull bar or winch bumper wont ever be legal either.

    1. They are better in the sand than 285's
    2. They are no more noisy than the stock tyres
    3. They are 100% legal, and fit on the stock alloys
    4. They are a true 33" and fit with the stock suspension no mods needed.
    5. They dont increase the fuel consumption going from the 265 stock tyres..

      The Nissan engine had nothing to do with stress. They had an overboosting issue with a faulty component. Not even remotely the same. Most small trucks have 4cyl engines and have no trouble pulling extremely large loads. Toyota engines have always been underpowered and fuel thirsty

    • @oriondoublecrossed
      @oriondoublecrossed 5 месяцев назад

      Not really. Nissan terra 2.5,isuzu mux 3.0,prado 2.8. These vehicles are designed to go offroad but not for towing. You dont need to add 35s. You need to put best all terrain tyres and the biggest you can put is 285/65/18 . It will be enough to take these cars to places unknown to mankind. If you want to increase performance then dont tune the car instead add engine upgrades like fuel injectors,cold air intake,differential breathers,snorkel but an efficient one from a reputed company,there are other components too that can increase your power without harming engine like exhausts,engine pipes made of aluminium. All these upgrades will result in 10-15 more hp and 30-50 nm more torque. Enough for a 4cyl engine. Obviously for anyone considering putting 35s will have to buy another vehicle or . Bur these upgrades that I mention will increase the fuel mileage as well.the engine will drink less fuel and breathe better. .The most potent 4 cyl is the 3.2 mitsubishi pajero's which is noe w discontinued.

    • @trickster8635
      @trickster8635 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, Nissan eventually fixed the overboost issue, then went common rail. They still struggle with over sized tyres, especially off the mark. I don't know of any small truck owners that deliberately fit tyres and wheels that are 4 inches larger than stock, and all will tell you that they would not mind a little more power. I am not sure what you mean by fuel thirsty? That would be a relative thing, I guess.@@MrWerd910
