    I personally made a big step in camera technic - One and a half year ago I made a switch from Canon's 550D to 6D Mk II. This was a massive step!! Wow - I love this great piece of engineering! Lovely pictures, no problems at all from what others complaining on RUclips and this lovely flippable touch screen on a full frame camera! Forget about Sony ;) And btw. Jamie - Thank you for your nice review and of course your other interesting videos. Love it, too!

    I have a canon 5d Mark ii and absolutely love the vibe it brings to the photos. However I wanted to upgrade to a newer version because the screen on the mark ii isn’t the best for playback. The 6d was looking like the best choice with the pop out screen and touch screen capability. But the camera got such a bashing on every review I watched that I ended up choosing the Sony A7iii. I have tried really hard to love the A7iii but haven’t been able to enjoy it. It felt crappy in my hands so I got the battery grip....still doesn’t feel right. I’ve also been frustrated with the options of lenses for Sony. So after spending 5k on various lenses trying to get the look of a canon I’ve given up. The Sony just looks too clinical. I stopped in to a shop in the way hone and ordered a 6d ii for $700 under retail on special. Can’t wait to get it and get back into enjoying taking photos. Thanks for your review.

    Really good review mate, it's nice to see reviews about it coming out from guys who actually use them for a living. I use the 6D mk II for landscape primarily and it's been fantastic. Managed to see through all the guff reviews from 'reviewers' who obsess over specs/lab test and never actually use the camera, they probably sit taking photos of their keyboards and regurgitating opinions all day. Totally understand about the dual card slot, if my work involved once in a lifetime shots I'd have probably taken the hit and went for the 5D Mk IV when upgrading but for now I'd rather spend that money on glass. Keep up the videos, good stuff!

    • @1arjen8
      @1arjen8 6 лет назад

      I read you use it for landscape photography. I consider buying a 6D mark Ii just for landscape. Do you have any views on some criticisms I read here and there about the 6D mark Ii having a "disappointing dynamic range"? Does that affect your work? Does the camera indeed overexpose clear skies and underexpose shaded areas?

    Great video. Did you grade the footage? it looks amazing! Definitively loving this camera for vlogging/allrounder. The only negative point for our use is the audio levels using an external mic. (rode videomicro). The sound crushes if you talk a little bit loud and it's too low if you talk with normal voice. Do you have the same problem?

    Good honest review. I've been shooting with the 6D2 for 4 months or so now and absolutely love it. I paired it with my 80D that I've had for about 2 years and shoot with both these cameras all the time.
    I was cautious and skeptical with all the bashing and negative reviews on the 6D2 but went ahead and bought it anyways....somewhat expecting that every image I took with it to be nothing but a grainy blurrrrr with absolutely no dynamic range at all!!!! LOL

    I recently made a side to side comparison with both the 5D mark III and my 6D mark II. I Installed James Miller's Clog profile on both cameras and shot a comparison with the same lens and same lighting conditions. The IPB codec in the 6D Mark II is superior to the All-I in the 5D mark III. There were a lot more artifacts with the 5D mark III and I suppose it is not all about the compression. The processor has a lot to do with it. An IPB codec with good processing yields to better results than an All-I with an older processor. That's why my C100 mark II has such a gorgeous image despite the internal lower bitrate. Both the 6D mark II and my C100 Mark II cut beautifully. I might upload that comparison soon.

    Great to see you sticking with Canon when so many are changing. I bought the 6D MKii this morning, the one thing NO ONE has mentioned is that it is no longer made from magnesium!!! it is plastic like the cheap rebel cameras! My heart sank when I first picked it up, light is great but it doesn't have the heavy expensive feel of the 5D series. Card slot as well, the 7D MKii got dual slots and it is only a APS-C sensor. I will give it a few weeks and see how I get on, but I think it will end up as a back-up body or a camera for my wife, she loves the light weight.

    I had been on the fence for the 6D mkII for months now, but earlier today decided to order it. I sold my 6D two months ago and ventured into a Sony A6000 that I can't stand (except for the lightness, going to sell to it soon). Didn't want to spend all the money for a 5d mkIV since it doesn't have an articulating screen. Super excited to get it. I like your review, too, I think the specs people are just off the charts. Good photos with good lenses are the key. I have an 80D which compared to the original 6D I love, especially the focus and video. Super psyched for it to arrive.

    One thing I love about the 6D2 is the focus and shoot touch screen. Using a stylus to choose my point of focus, it is great to shoot series of images for focus stacked composites. The lack of a second card slot would be a deal breaker for me if I were shooting professionally. I had the SD card slot crap out after less than a year of shooting. I have never experienced this in hundreds of thousands of exposures with CF card cameras.

    Great vid.
    The 6DII to me is basically a Full Frame 80D. Since the 80D was cheaper at the time - bought during holiday sales for $800 - I bought that and love it. If I wanted a full frame I think the 6DII is a good choice; if one doesn't care about dual cards and the joystick missing, which I don't.

    I'm thinking of getting the 5d Mark III. I'll be able to soon. I want to start my photography business and the crop factor with an APS C body bothers me considering I've put so much money into specific focal length lenses. I considered the original 6D but the 5d3 will last me far longer and be more secure with its multiple card slots and better af. At 1500 US dollars secondhand it'll do for at least a few years if not more.

      I'm aware it's meant to have a 'poor' dynamic range, but it's been absolutely fine for the photos I've taken. I was able to pull back loads of clean detail from the blacks. Maybe it might be an issue for those photographers who really go crazy with their post production. I like to keep it subtle. I'm not into the HDR stuff.

    The way I see it is the following: The 6D series is meant to be an entry level full frame DSLR. If they had put dual card slots, then why pay the extra price of a 5D IV when image quality is virtually the same? They need to protect the 5D and 1D series, and this is they way to do that.

    Hi Jamie, Great review!
    What did you think about the Dynamic Range of the two? Many people criticized the 6dm2 for its bad dynamic range at low iso.
    Looking to buy the 6dm2 (new) or 5dm3 (used) - what do you think?

    Thanks for the review. I've been shooting and filming with an 80D, this seems like a logical step if I want to go full frame? As I film on my own the dual pixel focusing is a god send.

    Jamie, have you used the 6D2 with your 85mm f/1.2L lens? I have focusing problems in portraits (especially outdoor head and shoulders) because of the way that the focus array of the 6D2 is crunched into the center of the frame. I like to use TTL viewing and focusing outdoors because I have problems seeing the image on the LCD screen in bright sunlight. With the camera in portrait position and using the topmost focus point, I cannot put that point on the subject's eye. The composition would be too low if I did this. Focus and recompose would be the natural way around this problem but, IMO, that s pretty rough with the absolutely slender DOF produced by this lens wide open. Placing the focus point on the eye and then cropping would work but, that negates the advantage of shooting full frame. I can work with the lens in a studio since I can use live view with dual pixel, touch screen AF and just select the eye by touch. I have used a Hoodman Loupe outdoors shooting portraits using live view but, I cannot select the focus point without being able to touch the LCD. Too bad there is not a joystick with which to move around the focus point in liveview without having to touch the LCD.

    I have the 6D but use the 80D for video. My next step up will probably be the 5D mk4. I'm a sensor guy and low light is my obsession.

    Hi Jamie, the 6dii gets a lot of stick about dynamic range. I don't shoot video and am looking for my first full frame. Your opinion please, Yay or nay.? Other better options.?

    Thanks for this video. Answered allot of my questions. I had my original 6d die (shutter broke) during a recent fashion show. I plan to get it repaired but I have made enough of the photo sales that I may upgrade to the 6D MkII so I have the original 6D as a backup.

      Is the digic 5 any good..ie noise sharpness..using it indoor for weddings events ..or do you think the 6dii will be better as it has a much newer digic 7 sensor?

      Not sure if this is adressed to me. The Mark III sensor is good, I have no issues with it. Low noise performance is awesome in my opinion. @@studio-flash

    Thanks Jamie! I've gone through tons of compare videos and posts on which to get. I'm hoping from a 6D and juggled between these two. Just can't beat having insurance with dual card slots. Also, I don't do do vids so it's another x for the 6d ii. Maybe for a sub camera. :/

    what I hate about reviews is that people get caught up in the specs so much that they start to think its what makes a great image, and you did a great job letting people know that a lot of the stuff put in these cameras a lot of people dont use anyway. ive seen people with the most fancy cameras take the most terrible images but they have all the specs on their camera smh. you did a great job with the review. BUT the dual card slot is a deal breaker lol if you are a wedding photographer or event photographer

    Can you tell me what camera and lens you used to filmed this episode? Great quality and colors (also great comparison as well)! Is it Canon 6dmii or Canon G7X? I need to know :D

    • @jamiewindsor
      @jamiewindsor  7 лет назад

      Noostro It was mixture of G7X Mark ii and 6D mark ii. Any shots with the 6D in were G7X. Most of it was on that camera.
