  • Saige doesn't look homeless. When I handed her a pair of socks, I was actually sure that she was. What happened next totally shocked me. When I gave Saige my business card, she burst into tears. They were happy tears. Turns out she watches this channel and is grateful that we give homeless people a voice. Near the end of the interview, Saige talks about her vision of starting her own RUclips channel, which you can find here / @saigesummers7pathstop...
Saige's story is an emotional tale of traveling, trauma, depression, survival, and our human need for purpose. The importance of purpose is not talked about enough. I started this channel to give myself a reason to get up in the morning. People need a reason to live. Often, homeless services ignore the power of purpose, which to be honest, I am not sure there is a specific solution since purpose is different for everyone.
After college, Saige backpacked around the world. It was an adventure. She saw new places and stayed with new people. Then she faced significant trauma and everything changed. When she was traveling, Saige was nomadic, which is different than being homeless. Saige told me that what changed is tried to improve her living situation with no results. That's when Saige finally accepted that she was homeless.
Saige is a strong woman with lots of emotions. It's important to her that she works her own way out of homelessness. I think most of us can relate. We hate asking for help. Saige is determined to find a purpose to help her get out of homelessness. As you'll hear me say in this interview, we all need to accept help from time to time. My hope and prayers are that Saige will find the support and purpose she seeks.

    About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Each year, our groundbreaking educational content reaches more than a billion people across the globe. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

I spent some time with Saige today. For some reason, she is having problems responding to comments on this video. I am not sure why. I looked at the backend, and it's nothing I am doing. She's going to reach out to RUclips for support. She wanted me to let you all know she is reading comments are will respond when tech issues are worked out.

      Matthew Chapter 6
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

I just wanted to reach through my screen and hug this woman. Feel so sad for her, but I also admire her.. she seems like a sweet, intelligent person. Not looking for handouts from others but instead feels like she needs to give back equal to that which she recieves.. she just genuinely fell on hard times and is trying to battle her inner demons simultaneously. I pray she finds peace and purpose.

She is wearing a mask....but she has severe depression and ptsd.
This is the the result of saying " don't be a victim!" Which when the situation go worse it could end with suic and people asking " why he/ she did it?" " why didn't the person ask for help?".
And the thing is..if she goes saying she has depression and needs help, nobody will care but if she goes with the " don't be a victim" mayyyybe she could get help but also it could lead to the hiding part where she bottle the problem and could end in suic.

Truly frightening what America has become, and before 1980, you didn't have homelessness at all hardly, because there were so many rentals available, lots of apartments and small houses before the end of the 70's. Rentals were so cheap, too. You could rent a one bedroom apartment, have a part time job, and live well-- then. This era reminds me of those movies " Soylent Green" or " Running Man.". Seniors and disabled people are the fastest growing demographic for becoming homeless. Most people have a stereotype in mind, when considering homeless people. Lack of housing stock is the real cause of homelessness, as I've seen things change from affordable to expensive, abundance to scarcity. This country has some strange ,evil agenda, because Washington is unwilling to build housing on q massive scale, nor restore Section 8 to what it was before Nixon and Reagan cut it down, in 84 Reagan cut it 80% in 1984.

The fact that you have compassion and care about these people makes you a very special person ❤️ 🙏🤗 You need to never think of suicide the world needs more people like you that are kind and decent❤️🙏. It's difficult to think that that other people are suffering from mental illness, homelessnes.. Not all are having mental or drug issues & alcohol. My heart goes out to people because it doesn't take much to cause homelessness. I'm a senior I'm in heart failure, post stroke, Parkinson's disease and Lupus. I trusted my sister with my bank card and she started using drugs depleting my acct without my knowledge. She was helping me pay bills, and my care giver. She turned on me and moved out with a friend of hers after they physically abused me. I'm not on drugs, I don't drink, I've never smoked pot. I'm on soc sec but I was forced to take soc sec at 62 after my stroke so I lost 600.00 a mth income. So too poor to get an apt. But anyway I wanted you to know you're special. I almost took my life 8 weeks ago. It's a long term solution to a short term issue. I find that for me helping others takes away my depression. I still have it it has been with me since I can remember. I'm talking to a counselor but I dislike meds. I take only the meds I need for my health conditions or I'll die. Please think of how valuable you are! 👑🤗🥰🌹🌹 You're comment touched my heart ❤️ for that I'm grateful 🙏 ❤️ God bless you. And watch over you. Thank you❤️🤗🌹🙏👑🛐😢

I hope all is going with Saige. At one point she mentioned about not wanting to take a job at McDonald's. Nothing is wrong with working at McDonald's. It was my first job and I was able to buy a $500 car after working there for two months. Healthy mentality is the key - if working at McDonald's or Lowe's is a step of one's life, take it. Life is made up of many small steps.

Do you mind me asking your ballpark age? I am older and I remember it was possible to work at a fast food restaurant for the summer and afford a car, but sadly, those days are long gone. Now, the main issue is jobs that can pay for the high cost of housing. The current climate has created a new segment of homelessness that do not match the stereotypes. Put this in perspective: there are now more than a half a million homeless people nationally THAT WE CAN COUNT. That number is probably doubled realistically and only growing. The real issue is a lack of AFFORDABLE housing that stagnant wages and an unstable job market can cover. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to see this. There is self-interest, denial, false beliefs and corruption undergirding our society, and it is blocking solutions to this. It's just so sad because it's all so unnecessary.

Helen, McD's is not a menial job. It can give you skills to open your own coffee shop, etc. She has been trying to "work it out" for years, And it's not working! We must start MENTORING people again. College degrees are mostly just an extension of high school, useless. Our education system has been watered down for decades. Our government gives BILLIONS overseas and our churches gives MILLIONS, but we continue to attack, degrade, and humiliate our own. .. it's disgusting! We must have Tiny Home communities NOW across this nation!!!

MONEY IS THE FIX. Any housing requires money and that money comes from somewhere. Whether it be employment or welfare programs or Sec. 8 or Social Security or Veteran's Benefits, you cannot get any housing without money. You are bringing up other needs that people may have like "purpose" and love. But that really isn't directly related to getting shelter. Not having shelter should be treated as a crisis situation. The other issues can be addressed later.

I think that when people are out on the streets they actually get some camaraderie from the people around them and that is something they give up if they move to an apartment or house or shelter. So finding a way to provide a sense of community (1e:dignity and love) once someone is housed and receiving services is important. Also I recommend taking fish oil for anxiety and depression. I am reminded of how effective it is when i run out and don't take it for a few days. It really is an amazing anti-depressant backed by many studies as well. I pray she is able to find her way. Sometimes these people are so fixated about their own ideas and the way how things are supposed to happen and be done according to their mindset that they take many people for granted and opportunities that life puts on their life paths to give them a hand and improve their lives because according to her that's not the way she has planned things. It's all in her mind. They push themselves so much that they end up mentally ill for continuous frustration for not being able to accomplish their "plans/goals" falling into a vicious cycle. 10 years in homelessness and poverty for a prepared college graduated woman is so much time when it's just a matter of start making desicions and be more emotionally intelligent. Hope she gets better soon.

Maybe every effort she did was to gain her parents attention and validation and she focused so much in being recognized by others that with time all that mindset leaves you empty. She wants a purpose, when the most important purpose for a person is their own well being, health physical and mental, dignity, healthy relationships etc..., but she's expecting something to happen outside of her, something that is not up to her to decide but from others because she needs to know that someone cares about her...well, how about those friend's help that she rejected? That's caring and love, the only thing she gets out of that is rejection because her friends might think that if she's in that situation is because she has chosen to be in that situation. SAIGE! I doubt you'll see this but I know I have to at least try: I get it. I get it. the "Why don't you just go out & get a job" is not useful & I get a little resentful every time I hear it. My whole world got turned upside down about 10 years ago. I lost everything: my career, my home, my family, my support system & network of friends... I went thru a traumatizing incident & the people around me just sort of folded. Now that I've had some time to digest how things really work in this world, I believe the source of my grief wasn't all the people I lost & it wasn't the material things I no longer have....it's the lack of human decency & the loss of dignity that is salt in the wounds. And when you (or I) spend a lifetime helping others, giving love, it's beyond heartbreaking when you (or I) realize that's not necessarily what we get in return.
You have a powerful message & I know I'm not the only one who noticed some of your innate gifts, so please know that you mean something to me & to the world.

I survived Narcissistic abuse, money taken, electronic stalking, abuse by proxy, and I lost one of cousins by suicide! I have to stand tall and fight! I cannot crumble and lose faith! Life isn't meant to be happy all the time. When you're too sensitive you can lose everything! Some people just can't deal with life stressors or tragedies!

Saige thank you for sharing your story. You are strong & you are resilient. The struggle to gain independent footing when you are starting with nothing is exhausting. I too understand the plight. Hoping you can keep your dream as vivid as your daily grind.

😢I cried everytime she cried. Purpose is EVERYTHING to most folks and feeling even just a spoonful of dignity everyday can make survival worth living for is the message. So much to keep fighting for and being there for yourself can also bring us out of the holes we may find ourselves in. It's people seeing people, connecting, and really listening as set by this woman's clear ability. I admire her and hope her loving heart will stay open for humanity.

She clearly needs some support, moral support to lift her spirits and start making it out of it. The closest that could provide for that is a community or a friend. I feel for her.

Give this amazing beautiful person access to just one acre of land and she would 1) build a lean-to and sleep well 2) plant food and feed an entire community 3) rescue amazing animals and create an exchange of unconditional love 4) fulfill her purpose of having purpose....my list could go on but I'm sure my point is understood. She is inspiring despite her circumstances. Her heart is kind, generous, giving and by no means conceited. I have hope for Saige.
