Your voice can help end homelessness. If we do not fix the affordable housing crisis, homelessness will continue to get worse. Click here invisiblepeople.tv/getinvolved to tweet, email, call, or Facebook your federal and state legislators to tell them ending homelessness and creating more affordable housing is a priority to you.

Mark. In 2020 what is the reality of homeless now .because donald trump has fucking destroyed ur country America. Ie America is not the land of the free. In ireland 🇮🇪 homelessness is suicidal..im in a car homeless Mark. Because I have 2 small dogs. Housing wants me to give up my dogs. Without my digs I'd kill myself. Homelessness takes ur whole body mind. Im trash and scum to people. But I work in human rights ..my job doesn't know. But they know now ..Mark. u really have to give the reality of the people who die or dead committed suicide. Thats the reality of homelessness. These two young people are wonderful..god bless them and hope they find a home married kids. Etc.

I hear these stories and feel so lucky my foster parents adopted me. My birth mother had mental health issues and I have them too but I've been lucky to have a family and support. I even talk to her (birth mother) regularly now so that's been neat. I've gone through drug addiction and homelessness and although it's difficult for my dad to understand he's really been there through all of it.

@The Catmother In Nazi Germany anyone deemed unwell/unworthy was surgically altered. This included anyone with mental health conditions and anyone with a hereditary deformity. Pretty extreme. Many of them died after these operations. Most of them were killed anyway in gas chambers.

I agree. Also the same for abusive homes the kids like myself n my siblings trapped in abuse not rescued by the system. We are not taught anything and housebound. We struggle harder at school.
So all those vulnerable from dysfunctional families in foster care or still trapped in abusive families.

@Dank Dank She was 'stimming'. This is what Autistic people do. Sometimes with their hands, face or rocking like that. They do this because they desperately need physical stimulation or they will feel a sense of nothing which they can't bare. If you haven't experienced it you can't imagine what it feels like. It goes right across the spectrum and is different in different people. It's a little like when kids fidget at a certain age. I used to get hit of my grandad for this and then it developed into facial twitching so then my dad used to yell at me for twitching all the time. Back then there was no information about it nor any meds I could of taken. I was often thrown out of class for never being able to sit and concentrate for any length of time. This made me grow up believing I was a failure because some of my teachers back then loved to tell me I was a waste of space. That's why I relied to your comment. In this day we have plenty of knowledge about autism and how it affects people.

"SAM'S MOM SOLD HER TO HER BEST FRIEND WHEN SAM WAS FOUR! I put this in all caps because childhood abuse and childhood trauma play a significant role in how a person functions as an adult. It's easy to point a finger at a homeless person judging them that their homelessness is their choice, but when you learn more about a person's story, you'll often find layers of childhood abuse and neglect."
You said this so well and I would like to add that a lot of people that appear to be functioning and even thriving in society suppress and hide their childhood trauma or vulnerability and as a result of that they cannot bear the sight of vulnerable people. I believe this might be part of why society has gotten so callous. Damaged people have to get past their survival instincts if they want to find help but society also has to open it's eyes more to the underworld of society also.

"don't ask how you can help unless you're really willing to help, because 9 times out of 10 you aren't gonna like the answer you get" that's so powerfully and well worded and so painfully true. Sam's is a very 'there but for fortune' story for me, and even though I'm currently very fortunate to have a crappy studio, that rings very true. I'm sure its something a lot of people with trauma and mental illness and neurodivergance understand too well. Growing up with autism became hard for me. Now I'm 21, wanting to become an aspiring rapper helps to get the anger off my chest. I mainly rap conscious lyrics alot about the homelessness, disabled/aspergers/autistic communities being rejected in society, etc. It's the worst feeling being revolved around this issue in life. Making meaningful songs about being autistic helps me to "raise awareness" in the music industry and I will always bring that topic so the people can understand about autism and our pain.

It's very sad to see how some people can be blessed with aspergers (I'd consider myself blessed, maybe not romantically, that'd be probably easier but I honestly think I'd rather be with someone who has aspergers after having gone out with neurotypicals, it'd also be a plus if they had BPD(BorderlinePersonalityDisorder/Not bipolar) and how some people are cursed with it, unable to articulate their thoughts and feelings, some who have very severe autism may have trouble speaking, relationships are quite difficult to maintain , people will often look down on you or treat you different, people make fun of you and try to take advantage of you, they belittle you in front of others or undermine you, they will talk in this condescending baby voice or even slow their level of speech to half of what they normally speak . It's pretty messed up how both the homeless and autistic are often treated/stigmatized by the general population or ignorant people. I got lost writing this along the way but yeah it just bothers me, regardless of how high functioning someone is, how people assume people with autism are and the way their often treated when they find out . I keep it a secret whatever place I work now because Its really no ones buisness anyway unless I need extra help or something and even than that doesnt mean all my employees need to know maybe just my employer .
