Also, spot on about the real value of Tempo -- the coaches. The other stuff is fun, cool, interesting, nice. But it is icing on the cake. What I really like is my fav coaches and they keep me engaged and coming back. Team Jonathan! My advice for people would be to keep an eye out for a Tempo Studio on the secondary market. People are unloading them relative cheap.

Very helpful, thanks! I didn’t realize you can use your own weights with the Studio, which makes that device much more interesting.

Great review! I am also looking at the Speediance but this may be better for my small apartment. i’m a beginner as well. Have about 6 month in the gym with a personal trainer so i would appreciate the trainers here! Can you get a full and complete gym experience? is anything missing that i would need to keep my gym membership? thanks!

You need to be in range of the camera for the reps to be counted, but you can use your own weights, at least with the studio. I had the move for a year before I got the studio. Studio isn't really all that different aside from a wow factor...the studio does look cool and the large vertical screen is kind of cool. Honestly I wouldn't have purchased one since I had the move already, but was lucky enough to score one for free. That being said it is the one I use exclusively now. That is because it doesn't require you use color coded weights. It has been awhile since I used the move and not sure if you can use barbell with it, but I believe you can. There is tons of content and you will be fine with just dumbbells for awhile or indefinitely. But I suggest a decent beach, preferably adjustable.

I've been using Tempo for over 2 years now and love it ... except that I've hit a weight limitation with my workouts. The max for dumbbells is 52.5 lbs and almost 90% of their workouts are dumbbell only. If you are very strong then I would recommend something else than the Tempo. If you like work out variety and really awesome trainers then Tempo is for you.

I have a tempo Studio and a Tempo Move and almost exclusively use the Studio because (as mentioned in this review and virtually no others) this allows me to use my own weights -- specifically a set of adjustable dumbbells. I like the quality of the tempo weights, but they are expensive to add-on and using the adjustable Dbs is a lot quicker and easier.

Do you have to stand on the mat for it track everything? Because I have my bowflex dumbbells which I could change the weight lifted quickly with the dial. Also do you really need the bar? or can you get away with just dumbbells. I kinda of want to buy the studio starter package.
