Oh, and every ruger I've purchased in the last 10 years has needed to be disassembled, cleaned, deburred, etc before taking it to the range. I have two 10/22's one of them I got about 25 years ago and the other i got last year. The old one is definitely higher quality with a fully metal trigger group and a nicely machined and coated reciever. The new one has a plastic trigger group and had a tin of peeling paint inside the reciever that I had to clean out. Seems like they have been cost reducing their parts a lot over the last couple decades to keep their prices down. Once cleaned up, the new one runs great, but the out of box experience was disappointing.

I'm having some feed issues with mine that I don't remember ever seeing with my dad's. 1in7 shot has a feed jam stoppage that can't be cleared by cycling the action, as it is a round jammed against the barrel that failed to feed into the chamber.
I don't know how common that is or was, but I don't remember my dad's 10/22 or nylon66 ever having any feeding issues but this new one sure is not very reliable. I've got four 10 round ruger mags and one 25 round ruger mag, and they all seem to have the same problems, so I don't think it is likely magazine related... 🤷🏽‍♂️

Standard velocity 22LR will get you better groups than the high velocity stuff. The HV ammo goes transonic between 50 and 100 yards which wrecks accuracy. With the standard vel, it starts subsonic and maintains accuracy. You should also definitely try CCI ammo. Brand is everything when it comes to rimfire ammo. CCI really rules the roost.

I'll have to try some subsonic ammunition. Do they typically cycle the automatic actions? All I've ever shot regularly was supersonic ammo out of .22s

@@timberfallingcouplethe CCI "standard velocity" ammo is actually technically subsonic without the extra price, and it works everytime out of my 10/22.

Trust me, if your hearing is sub-par now, you might consider never shooting, running a saw or even a lawn mower without hearing protection. YOU are still young and you will regret not protecting your hearing now. Ask me how I know...

You ever try to tell a coyote or a deer to wait for you to put in hearing protection?

@@timberfallingcouple One round, down range, in the wide open, is significantly less impactful to your hearing than multiple percussive events a the range. But you already know this, yes?

Yes! I should have used ear protection more when younger. Lot of years running ported saws, trap shooting, general fucking around etc etc.
