Shorter barrels are better for long-range?
Testing a 20 inch savage model10 against a 24 inch model 70.
Same cartridge same load, same range, same targets, same everything.
Tired if hearing this shorter barrel is better baloney.

Defective Barrel Replacement, First Shots - Danger Close Armament

My first Danger Close Armament barrel peeled metal chunks off of the lands of my rifling. The company said to send back my defective barrel so they could inspect the damage. They did not write me any letter or email regarding the damage, but I received an email notification that my "order was cleared hot." The first shots fired out of this barrel look as good as they did out of the last one. Th...

    I purchased a used pistol from the local privately owned Gun store, and it was in very good condition on the purchase day. It sat in their safe while processing the paperwork. When I got there to pick it up, it was missing the Tritium from the Trijicon front sight. The owner offered no explanation, but offered to let me out of the deal or he would mount a new sight if I bought a new one. He lost me as a return customer and I don't recommend him for future sales. How does a $160 site fall apart in the waiting period?

    Sadly we also have noticed the quality control at Savage Arms has gone down hill over the last 10-15 years. I blame it on mass production but one would think buying a higher end firearm from a local Gun Or Sporting Goods store there would be some level of competency in checking a "New in the Box" firearm would at the very least have the common sense to have an employee go over the rifle and check it before letting it go out the door. That too is a common sense service that you could used to figure on when buying from a reputable dealer or store. We feel your pain but now days the old saying of "you get what you pay for" means more than ever before. Unfortunately we will not purchase another Savage Arms Weapon because of issues just like this. I would rather buy a rifle that's used but in fantastic condition from a trusted Gunsmith than save a few dollars by purchasing from a "Store".

    • @timberfallingcouple
      @timberfallingcouple 18 часов назад

      This is a used weapon from a "local store" and their "gunsmith" is responsible for this as far as I'm concerned. Buy a new stripped weapon or a used stripped weapon, or a used weapon, or any weapon in any condition from any local shop and make sure you strip it and reassemble it yourself.

    January 2020, Iron Horse did an episode on sprocket size, engine size and chain speed. And then joined that whole side on the equipment, to the design of chains on top of it. Had listened once before to Ironhorse talking about sprockets, rim sprockets of various kinds for engines 60cc and above. What I didn't figure, or I hadn't recalled is how he then brought chains into that too. Heck, even what type of geometry at top of one's bar that one is using. There's about a dozen things which 'interact' here in this equation, and credit to the man, he got that point across.

    • @anglingmailbox3236
      @anglingmailbox3236 День назад

      I moved my saw bars between workshops of late, it turned out I had two 18 inch bars (same chain pitch, same manufacturer, but different bar nose or tip design). Anyways, I just thought about it, couldn't figure it out until a week later. I realized I'd got some .050 inch kerf width chain a while ago, and a bar for .050 kerf, it's a sort of European tree care thing. My regular 18 inch bar for 50cc tools was .058 inch, and I'd run the .050 inch chain on small 40cc equipment (but for totally different work than what I do with a 50cc saw). The thing is, I was reminded about that in listening to Ironhorse, he talked about speed, sprocket design and nose of bars. About this relationship, and they go from seven to six tooth sprokets down below at those less powerful engine sizes. It's all .325 inch chain pitch stock (and foolishly, I'd placed my entire collection of .325 inch chain into one cardboard box during my workshop re-model). But within that world of .325 inch pitch, there's a lot of different things going on inside of that world. And one hundred percent, I'd agree with Ironhorse, speed also matters in this (you try to run wider kerf chain on 40cc equipment where you don't have speed available, it doesn't work nearly as well as up at 50 and 60cc).

    • @anglingmailbox3236
      @anglingmailbox3236 День назад

      My point is that, it's only at smaller tool scale for very light work in tree care, you're aware that speed is a factor (because you quite literally won't have enough). Larger engines, it gets harder to develop a sense about that, as the factor is concealed over by availability of sheer horsepower. I wanted to point out the Ironhorse episode though, as it's worth a reflection on.

    • @anglingmailbox3236
      @anglingmailbox3236 День назад

      One other thing. His earlier 2019 exposition called 'How a chip is formed', is a frank explanation from Iron horse of the development of full skip chain approaches, and specifically he talked about eastern, or north eastern ash, maple, alder (distinguishing between some oaks, pines etc 'that will chunk' rather than chip). The point being is that 'the wood' or material itself has to even factor into the equation. It's rare nowadays we get to think about full skip chain, from any perspective other than a western 'long bar' big diameter tree stand one. Oregon perhaps will explain that skip chains make sense out beyond 24 inch bars. Anyhow, it's rarer to listen to a logger who talks about it from the hardwood and chip creation side too. Ironhorse relates his understanding of full skip, for hardwoods, probably more to 'sprocket pin count' (extra pin on sprocket equates to additional speed generated at the cutting tooth), than full skip being just related to 'length of bar'. The latter was where my understanding had been at.

      Definitely buy another, if you can get a target model of any type with a regular barrel not a lite weight one those work best to send to Randy. If you piece one together Feddersen barrel and receiver all the way. My target model tuned up by CT precision hits a 3/8” spinner disc at 50yrds with CCI standard every time. Randy designed his chamber to run CCI. That 10/22 goes every shooting trip and just get passed around until we all leave combined with a 3-9x Leupold rimfire and the Titan stock best money I’ve ever spent. I’m in Poulsbo come next summer for a silhouette match.

There are also 20% more trees on earth today than there were 50 years ago, thanks largely to sustainable logging practices that the poster is likely following. Clearing out unchecked new growth is also essential for preserving the ancient trees that we all love.
