I've noticed this to make a huge difference in grouping size with mine. I found my sweet spot to be 14inlbs, and even as little as a full inch pound higher or lower makes a difference.
Victor Company's stock for the 10/22 has the ability to apply pressure to the tang. And they have a kit that basically stabs the rear of the receiver to remove that pivot from the solo action screw.
Just buy a Kidd heavy 16 or 18 inch non fluted Matt barrel, no threading, a Kidd 2 stage trigger and a set of springs for your new Kidd bolt and rod and be done with it. That will give you all the accuracy you need if fitted properly.

I was the only one shooting a semi-auto and we shot targets out to 200 yards. I have the KIDD rear tang in place and had a magpul hunter stocked milled to receive the rear tang screw. I’ve got an X ring receiver and barrel I built using a 2stage Kidd and the KRG bravo with full length arca rail and tripod mini spigot. Using an arken ep5 5-25x56 scope and it’s an absolute dream to shoot. I love stretching it out. It’s a great setup for sure. I also got the bravo butt pad and it’s very much worth buying
Try the 10/22 custom shop. Shoots under half inch groups at 50 all day. Did the KYL rack at 50. 8 shots, 8 hits, last one 1/4 inch. So, yes, 10/22 with a good trigger shoots very well. SK long range.
Your problem is likely the action sliding around in the chassis. KRG makes an excellent product, but the 1022 either needs some extra hacks to lock it down, or a softer stock material to dig into.

I’m not sure how old mine was when I bought it back in 92’, or how many rounds it’s had through it, and I have no idea how many thousands of rounds that I’ve put through it over 30yrs, but it’s been my go to gun since I bought it, and I’ve had a lot of rimfires. It’s been in multiple configurations. I have 4-5 barrels (none of them “target” or bull barrels) for it including the factory barrel. But the factory barrel and the current barrel (basically a threaded factory barrel) , in it’s factory stock, can keep dime sized groups at 100 yards, and it’ll smack a squirrel sized target out past 175. I can stack bullets between 25-75. And I never use Federal Rimfire ammo for any kind of accuracy, The Winchester ammo has always shot well my favorite was the Power Point in 40grn. I use to buy it by the brick. They discontinued it back in the late 90’s (at least the packaging) as far as I know but I still have over 2000 rounds in hard boxes just for hunting with that gun I did find another Winchester round, can’t think of the name off hand, but it seems to be the same setup, load, bullet, whatever I’ve even taken it apart and weighed it out, but ill generally use that or CCIs at the range and save my original Power Points for showing off 😂. It’s by far the best rimfire I’ve ever owned. With the right glass those guns will perform phenomenally. Just an extremely accurate fun freakin gun.
Interesting video for sure. I will add that I've shot Federal Gold Match (through some old Marlin 80DL Bolt Action Rifles (that were made back when there were no Serial Numbers put on these firearms), and I've had very good results from it... At the end of the day it really does come down to what your firearm likes (ammo wise) - but that's a given with all firearms... Great video, and thanks for putting it together! There's good information to be had here!
One of my favourite bits of design selection is the times companies decide to use larger screws and match all/most of the screws across all of an item so you can use a very limited selection to do everything ! The bits of kit that have dozens of small screws are a major pain
I think the bullets are nice and warm in the house and when you shoot them out into the cold air, they start shivering travelling with that terrible wind chill down to the target.
If you want accuracy I would suggest pulling that suppressor off. they collect carbon and when you carry the rifle with the muzzle pointed up, carbon can fall back down into the bore and effect accuracy. If you are trying to mess with barrel harmonics then get a barrel tuner.
My "International" shoots the CCI SV 40gn RN, best accuricity. #2 ammo is the Mini Mag 36gnHP. The CCI Mini Mag 40 gn RN is good accuricity and and a bit Hotter.
When she was 8 years old my granddaughter shot my 10-22 bull barrel for the first time. After proper instructions in breathing, trigger control, rifle and range safety she promptly shot 100-8X on 15 yard target at 25 yards. Yes, the 1022 can be accurate. I have a picture of the target to prove it.
I put mine in a boyds thumb hole laminated wood stock with a green mountain bull barrel and boyds trigger spring gide rod and bolt spring kit's topped off with a nice glass I'm getting have inch group's at 50 haven't had the room to get it out to 100 yet but i think it will do great
What made you return them? What sort of results did you get that made you not want them? Or at least not see the benefits from the price paid? I have 2 tac Sol Barrels and they’re excellent. As well as my 10/22 using a tacsol receiver and barrel setup in the bravo chassis and it’s a total tack driver for 22lr especially
@@MrTylero28 I had the rifle in a McMillon Anschuts stock for 10 plus years. I wanted a change and I fell for the whole chassie system craze and bought the KRG. I hated the thing from the time I took it out of the box. The KRG exterior was a quality control nightmare, sharp edges at the seem between the two injection molds. The interior aluminum bedding reminded me of an "Erector Set" . The tacsolution barrel was the worst shooting barrel I ever owned. short light barrels don't shoot.
The ultimates section of the Rimfire Central forum has many examples of 10/22 rifles that can shoot near 1/4" groups at 100 yards off a bench. You just have to bring the gun up to spec and get an accurate barrel. The brand of the barrel is less important that the qualities of the individual barrel. It's easier with a bolt gun but you can do it with a modified 10/22 if a shooter does his part.
Given the cold weather, excellent filming and editing! After watching this, I will probably add a torque screw driver and some sand bags. My 10/22 is modified for walkin' around. Who knows? I may build another.
Yes, a well built 10/22 with good components can be/is a competitive precision rifle. Recently I built a Kidd Inovations based 10/22 clone. Yields consitent MOA or less groups at 100 yards. Have yet to go 200 or 300yards. But have confidence as long as wind isn't too great a factor.
Send that barreled action with trigger to Randy at CPC. For $250 he cut my groups in half even Aguila super extra ammo shoots better then what I saw there. With CCI standard it shoots 10 shot 1/2” groups and 3/8” with green tag at 50yrds wearing a 3-9x scope nothing fancy. The gun isn’t picky at all it eats everything still. No parts get put in a box never to be used, he is a outstanding gunsmith that makes factory 10/22’s competitive for silhouette or whatever. Best money I’ve ever spent on a gun and got it back in less than a month too. I like the stock the gun needs some fine tuning is all. Cheers
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork lol, I think it depends on the day of the week it was made, what rifle your shooting it through, how bad the wind is and how much coffee you drank before you shot it. These damn rifles are like Women, finicky and you can never spend enough on them!
I think I agree with you. That rifle got taken to an FFL dealer for consignment recently. I don't have time for guns that don't shoot. I have other better 22's so this was an easy choice.
The reason 22 target rifles are bolt/single shot is the bolt thrust when fired is consistent. A semi-auto recoils to work the action-it is not 100% consistent in recoil/movement of the bolt----using green tag cci helps as the ignition is more consistent, but is not a miracle maker-the fact is most people cannot shoot well enough to reach the full potential of the rifle-Buy a true target rifle and be amazed-shoot the eye out of a fly.
The factory barrels aren't bad. Hammer forged on a mandrel, they can be pretty good. Generally have to get pretty spend-y to beat them. There is A LOT of paid review marketing telling us a barrel swap is the first thing to do. So you might find my opinion in the minority. But proper bedding is more important. Bedding can turn a dog into a real shooter even in the factory wood stock. A pencil barrel might look out of place in a chassis though.
I have competed against high end Anschutz, and other custom bolt guns and own some my self BR comp shooting buy I have won many matches with a 10/22 With a quality match barrel, trigger in a proper stock, Barrel Tunner with bloop tube and a rock solid tourney rest a good 10/22 will surprise you. If you do not know how to properly setup and tune one then they are average shooters. And not all barrels are created equal. Also shooting match quality ammo is a MUST for someone serious. I have 3 Match 10/22s and have one that just will outshoot my Begara and Anschutz consistently. Why that 1 its the barrel. All things the same swap barrels then both my Anshutz and Begara will smoke it. It has a SS Snake Fluted Volquartsen and its the only one out of three 10/22 all will Volquartsens that finds a hamony shooting Eley match ammo and shines.
I have definitely seen them shoot well, but every single time it's because the owner put a ton of money into it to get it to do that. I guess that was my point with this video...at what point do you just spend the money initially to buy a custom bolt action and be done with it?
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork your absolutely correct it takes a lot of time and money to get them that accurate and a bolt gun would be the same or cheaper in the end.
My 20" Green Mtn SS sporter Barrel with, a Lil' Crow Gunworks, Recoil Lug ( Glass Bedded ) in, a "Sporter" Ruger Walnut stock,.. shoots Awesome ( .3's and .4's at 50 yards) with, SK and Wolf, Match Extra, ammo. I have also done, a Volquartzen Trigger Job at, 2.25 Pounds and have a 4.5 X 14 Burris scope. Slightly Used Rifle and ALL parts / Scope for,.. a Total of $850
Lots of good comments here. Very true about optimizing the action screw torque. -- I have a 1995 10/22 Target with the original hammer-forged barrel and its nice wood stock. Rather heavy. I had the Ruger bolt redone by CPC (Connecticut Precision Chambering), and installed the Kidd recoil spring and guide rod and the Kidd "Trigger Job" drop-in trigger kit. So for the gun + about $180 I have a 0.5 MOA gun at 100 yards. No kidding, pardon the pun. ;-) Shot two 5-shot groups at 100 yards with SK Pistol Match Special. First group was .70". Second was .50". Decided to not shoot any more groups as I was ecstatic with that result. This 10/22 humiliates all my bolt-action 22s, including two nice CZs. -- Strongly recommend you send your barreled action to CPC for the full tuneup. Bolt, trigger and barrel. THE best bang-for-buck in 10/22 improvement, IMO. You will love the improvement. Also IMO, what stock the action is in is the last consideration, to be done after all other mods are made. BTW the scope on the 10/22 for the above two groups was a $60 Chinese scope off Amazon, set at 24X. I used a cheap bipod and a rear bag.
I like that original stock. Kinda reminds me of the Marlin 450 I had to hunt with as a kid my dad got me. Unfortunately sold it during some bad times and pray I can get another eventually but they're not that east to come across and the newer marlin wasn't the same. I'll probably have to end up getting a Henry of some kind
three years ago i bought a tactial solutions carbon fiber barrel for a new build added a hough stock a kidd bolt a sweet 22 scope and the best groupe i got from that rifle was a inch and a half group at fifty yards i tried 11 diffarent brands of 22lr i bought a boyds stock nada i put the new rugger bolt back in it nope i putt the kidd bolt back and the new never fired ruger barrel in it and it shot dime sized groupd at fifty when i called tactical the rep said not there problem i will never recomend their products that barrel cost 300 bucks after shipping i bought a green mouintain barrel for hundred bucks it shot 1/4 inch at fifty with bulk fedrial hp
I would say that even if your wooden stock does not shoot any better as far as looks goes I would switch back to the wooden stock I think it is 100% better looking than that can stock which looks cheap I would stick with the other one all day
yep the new one sucks christ its just a very low power .22lr .these 22 shooter s are all wimps looking to play big boy center fire ..never see them shoot .17hmr at 2600fps and 300 yards + ..
@@katana258 like lobbing tiny little cannons in a big arc down range. This concept must have come from rifle accessory manufacturers and ammo makers.😂😂😂😂😂
You want to shoot competition with a 10/22 just buy the Kidd super grade from the start and save yourself a lot of headaches if you want to try to be competitive.
Well I think your crazy, I went to my 1st benchrest match and shot against only bolt action rifles and I took 3rd place. The only upgrades i have is a ER Shaw barrel. some trigger work and cleaned the bolt. I used Ealey tennex and Ealey Match. And she shot pretty good. My next upgrade will be a KIDD bolt.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I wouldn't call them serious upgrades. I didn't put in a custom trigger, I didn't change the bolt, It's a stock receiver, stock chassis. A 125.00 barrel and smoothing the stock trigger isn't serious upgrades.
My first one had a few refinements...leading to 5 CCI standards in 1/4 inch at 50 yards on a good day...Stock gun, right out of the box,, don't expect a lot...
Great video. Love the products you're showing. But something I can't let go without comment: at time 0:58 there is a shot of the garage door behind you. To the right of the garage door, there is an American Flag, wadded up, and left leaning against the edge of the door. Several times later, from 0:58 to 7:33, we again see the American Flag in that position. I also want to say, that particular detail should matter to you. I hope it does. I hope you'll do better next time you take an American Flag down, at your residence.
It’s rolled up around the pole and held in a way as to not touch the ground. The only time it doesn’t fly at my house is when it’s dark or bad weather. Are you suggesting I’m not a patriot because I don’t triangle fold the flag every night?
It’s that camera system which has a shot tracking feature. Sometimes it flashes a shot on the screen and then it disappears or appears. It’s weird I agree.
Th big question is why? Just start with a better rifle to begin with! If you want a more accurate rifle then start with a savage or cz, and if you want even better then buy a competition rifle
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork it’s fun to trick out a 10/22 with cool stuff but by the time your into a high end barrel, stock, trigger group and the other essentials your beyond the price of a CZ or savage that are out of the box accurate or a good used competition rifle. 10/22’s are great for blasting off a brick of ammo and that’s why I sold mine! You tend to just keep pulling the trigger till it’s empty!
In the last two NRL/PRS type 22 matches I’ve come in second and first place shooting against Voodoo, Bergera and CZ rifles and shooting to 200 yards. I’m shooting a 10/22 action with a Feddersen barrel in an Archangel stock. I wish I could post my picture of 10 shots at 50 yards with SK Long Range Match which is EASILY covered by a dime and will do that all day. Hate to say it but your barrel has never been known to be really accurate. The only barrels I currently own are Kidd and Feddersen-tried all the others……..
@@danulman8837 I agree. Literally all I said about this barrel is that it’s better than factory. I’m certain I could eventually spend enough money to make this thing hammer but I won’t be doing that.
I got the receiver from a 70 dollar pawn shop purchase, the Feddersen barrel cost 170 bucks and the Archangel stock was 140 bucks. The most expensive single component of the rifle was the Kidd two stage trigger assembly that cost around 260 bucks at the time. I beat more than a few 1800 to 2200 dollar bolt guns in my last two matches….. on the discriminator timed stages used to split score ties, I absolutely kick their butts! 😎
Did you ever get this thing to group? Did you do the torque tuning? Did you try longer ranges?? I just ordered a 10/22 Competition, so can't wait to see how it does from 50 out to 200 yards. Rangers... Lead the Way!
I'm shooting one and a half inch MOA at 100 yd with a bone stock 10/22, a BX trigger, a Magpul stock and a 4 to 12 vortex scope. That gun of yours should be doing way better.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork fire it from a fixture and see what you get. I've got a new hack I'm trying out: I'm putting polymer clay in a rear bag so I can lay it on the bench, squeeze it up and it'll hold its shape far better than sand. Not sure how it will work and it is 2 lb but I want to see if I can get something better than a rear bag that's commercially available or just a plain old sandbag. Polymer clay stays ductile until you heat it to 280°. Also, I might be looking at a new stock for my 5.56 ranch rifle. While I don't mind the stock it has, I need a way better platform for the barreling action. Nonetheless, I'm shooting one and a half inches at 100 yd with that, as well! When I can stack the shots , I'll start moving out.
My 1022 with old Tacsol barrel, Volquartsen trigger kit(3lbs), X22 Magpul stock, and shooting CCI standard velocity, i got .4 inch at 50yds. Im kinda surprised at your results with seemingly much better ammo. My 1022 shoots tighter than my RPRimfire at the moment, testing ammo right now.
Here you go then, a Ruger 10/22 can’t compete with custom bolt actions in NRL22 competitions. Zero professional competitors choose them. They aren’t junk, they’re simply just the wrong tool for the job.
Very nice video ..... Those were some pretty ugly groups up until the Eley match ...... That is a very nice looking stock ...... I built me a custom 10/22 last year and used the Victor Titan22 stock and it is an absolute keeper ...... If you put a KIDD barrel with a better trigger I think it would be a tack driver.
That KRG chassis looks awesome. Is it compatible with 10/22 Magnum? I was looking at getting an action/barrel from Volquartsen but really wanted it on this KRG stock.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork For anyone else watching, I just heard back from KRG and that stock is not compatible with the 10/22 magnum receiver. Too bad, that's a nice stock and I already have an Oryx for my standard 10/22.
For many years I shot 3 position rifle with Anshutz rifles and I think you can improve your groups with a better shooting position. You seem to be all cramped up and not looking through the center of your eye. If you have a more upright, relaxed position I'll bet your groups would improve.
Nah. I’ve found all that does is cause people to argue. Legit, freaking people will argue about a difference of ten inch pounds. I can say that I torque all scope rings to 25 in. lbs. and somebody will come unglued about that. I don’t need the drama, so now I leave that out.

Just an extremely accurate fun freakin gun.
cool. thanks for watching.
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback.
I have a 1967 model with walnut stock and aluminum receiver.
I use a Kidd barrel and a Magpul stock. Put ten rounds inside a dime at 50 yards consistently.
I’ve heard those barrels are legit.
would have been neat to see how it shot before the mods to measure against baseline. a lot more time, $, effort though I get it.
One of my favourite bits of design selection is the times companies decide to use larger screws and match all/most of the screws across all of an item so you can use a very limited selection to do everything ! The bits of kit that have dozens of small screws are a major pain
Yes. I agree.
What kind of fuddlore is this? 😂😂😂
That last ammo was legit
My "International" shoots the CCI SV 40gn RN, best accuricity. #2 ammo is the Mini Mag 36gnHP. The CCI Mini Mag 40 gn RN is good accuricity and and a bit Hotter.
sounds good. thanks for watching and commenting.
“Accurate” I agree. Truly competitive in 22 precision rifle competitions…I have yet to see that Rug10/22.
LOL Same with my daughter. I’m shocked she didn’t try to take it with her when she moved out 😂
Saw a video where a guy torqued that screw at 10, 20 & 30 inch lbs. and got different groups at each torque setting.
Yes. That absolutely makes a difference.
In a semi auto, there’s SK Lapua, and Norma, and little else (for me) nice vid 👍
Cool, thanks
I put mine in a boyds thumb hole laminated wood stock with a green mountain bull barrel and boyds trigger spring gide rod and bolt spring kit's topped off with a nice glass I'm getting have inch group's at 50 haven't had the room to get it out to 100 yet but i think it will do great
Cool. Thanks for watching.
Funny. Used Remington Nylon66 I bought , with open sights and cheap ammo from S&B makes like the best group on 50 meters.
Glad you found something that works! Cheers.
I bought both the KRG stock and the tactical solutions barrel and I sent both back for a refund after 1 trip to the range.
That’s a bummer
DID You follow the KRG torq spec?
What made you return them? What sort of results did you get that made you not want them? Or at least not see the benefits from the price paid? I have 2 tac Sol
Barrels and they’re excellent.
@@PassionforRifles the takedown screw would not stay tight I even added a split lock washer.
My 10/22 target with krg and brx trigger with a factory barrel shoots fairly well at 50yds.
Cool. I think there are some that are fairly accurate. For sure money can be spent to make them better.
Magnum research is a one stop shop on having a complete competitive 10/22 style rifle 😊
Thanks for the tip.
Given the cold weather, excellent filming and editing! After watching this, I will probably add a torque screw driver and some sand bags. My 10/22 is modified for walkin' around. Who knows? I may build another.
Thanks for watching. 10/22's are super fun, no doubt about it.
Get a Kidd 1022 if you are wanting accuracy! They are Legit! Would love to see a video
I’ve heard they’re excellent.
My Ruger 1022 LVT groups 1/4” or less with Eley Match……Good Stuff
Thanks for watching
The stock forged barrel is more accurate than the tactical solutions barrel, and ER Shaw barrels are more accurate than both of those.
I’ve heard good things about Shaw.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork Tactical solutions are great for a lightweight race gun, but not for precision target shooting.
Man I have had my 10/22 since 1987 got it for Xmas that year
They are super fun rifles!
Would be interesting to see the same test with a better trigger!
agree, unfortunately I don't have this rifle anymore. thanks for watching.
Yes, a well built 10/22 with good components can be/is a competitive precision rifle. Recently I built a Kidd Inovations based 10/22 clone. Yields consitent MOA or less groups at 100 yards. Have yet to go 200 or 300yards. But have confidence as long as wind isn't too great a factor.
cool thanks for commenting.
The KRG Stock looks good, but I prefer the Thumb Hole stock over the KRG, just my preference...
Cool. Thanks for the comment.
Cheers
Hi Joel, I’ve been having some issues with SK rifle match lately. Lots of fliers and underpowered rounds. Love your channel.
Thanks for watching!
SK usually does pretty well for me, but I might have to admit that Eley shoots consistently better. 🤦🏻♂️
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork lol, I think it depends on the day of the week it was made, what rifle your shooting it through, how bad the wind is and how much coffee you drank before you shot it. These damn rifles are like Women, finicky and you can never spend enough on them!
@@RimfireSS 😂 truth
Looks like that barrel is irredeemable. If none of them will give you several sub inch 5x groups then you know the barrel needs to go
I think I agree with you.
Thanks for the comment
So, you left only with receiver from the initial build. Maybe... plus receiver and you get totally new rifle in addition to the one you had?
I’m sorry I don’t understand your question.
Nice 10/22 build ..mine has a 28 inch green mountain barrel shoot real nice ..
GM makes some awesome barrels, and that 28" one is no joke! Super quiet too.
Appreciate the comment.

i thought the 10/22 could work but have since changed my mind. it seems i always shoot a better score with a bolt action
Facts. Most people can’t shoot semiautomatic as well as they can bolt action.
Absolutely it can. My 10/22 is from a former F Class national champ. It's a heavy barreled model 01262, with the bolt carrier and action polished.
cool, thanks for watching.
Did you season the bore with the ammo before shooting on paper? That might help too!
Similar results with Federal Gold Medal Match...CCI Green Tag even worse...Eley Match & Tenex is all I shoot at this point.
The wind is moving the target some
Thanks, the video I was looking for.

yeah I'm finding similar results. Not a very good barrel.
I would say that even if your wooden stock does not shoot any better as far as looks goes I would switch back to the wooden stock I think it is 100% better looking than that can stock which looks cheap I would stick with the other one all day
I agree, the wood looks better. The issue is adjustability. The KRG can be better tuned to my length of pull and cheek height.

My next upgrade will be a KIDD bolt.
haha you've made some serious upgrades. of course it shot well.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I wouldn't call them serious upgrades. I didn't put in a custom trigger, I didn't change the bolt, It's a stock receiver, stock chassis. A 125.00 barrel and smoothing the stock trigger isn't serious upgrades.
I want to do this now! THANKS!

Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
When you were shooting the bottom right target. You have a low right miss and on the next shot the hole was gone? Kinda strange
I personally agree, but I make videos for every budget if that makes sense.

My Factory Ruger 10/22 will shoot with that gun. That's a lot of money for a gun that doesn't shoot any better than that
Right, that’s basically the point of this video. I’m not sure it’s worth it to put a bunch of money in a 10-22.
Nice unit. I like mine also 👍🏻🇺🇸

I'm shooting one and a half inch MOA at 100 yd with a bone stock 10/22, a BX trigger, a Magpul stock and a 4 to 12 vortex scope. That gun of yours should be doing way better.
I agree
Nah. I’ve found all that does is cause people to argue. Legit, freaking people will argue about a difference of ten inch pounds. I can say that I torque all scope rings to 25 in. lbs. and somebody will come unglued about that. I don’t need the drama, so now I leave that out.
Big 10/22 fan. But really. Just buy a basic Tikka T1X and do the same changes and you'll be a ton happier for PRS. The Ruger ain't really made for that IMO.
