Thank you for making this video. LFG is one of thise things that took me forever to learn on my own. It is one of the most powerful tools available in Destiny and people are just handicapping themselves by not using it.
It's understandable to have social anxiety, but at some point you do have to take a step forward and reach out. Remeber that failure is perfectly normal and expectations of perfection first time arent reasonable. The only reason I joined a clan was because I reached out on LFG to get someone to help me with a NF which led to them becoming a friend and then inviting me to their clan. It took me 17 attempts to finish the NF, but had I given up and stopped reaching out I would have never joined my clan and been invited to do day 1 raids.

That's not the problem though. The problem is that even when people with social anxiety do step forward and reach out, they're met by a brick wall of clan cliques who avoid hundreds of other clan members specifically to group with a select few. Every clan I've ever joined has had these, because there's no incentive from Bungie for them to do anything else. Well, here's my incentive: the more you raid or group with the same people, the more diminishing returns you get on loot and progress of triumphs, rankings, seasonal progress etc. But the more "strangers" (other people from your clan) that you group with, you'll actually garner a net increase in loot and progress. This should happen slowly over time, so that it doesn't STRICTLY affect you playing with friends, but clans and players should see a point in their progress where they see a noticeable dip and are required to play with new people in order to fix it. This should both affect individual players and entire clans directly. If you have a clan of nothing but cliques, the game should SPECIFICALLY require a scheduled rotation of player swapping so everyone gets to play together, and everyone gets a chance at loot. And if you don't do that, then collectively, as a clan, your chance at loot begins to decrease over time. This should reset on a regular basis so that friends can play with one another for a while without worry.

Although i think we can finish pit of heresy and or grasp of avarice.

Don't say that if you really want to do raids.
I'm not a solo player per se, as I have some friends with limited availability, also my availability is limited. I'm 38 years old with a wife, a job, chores and other hobbies. But I do love the game and invest a lot of time into it.
So I'm finding myself in LFG groups on a regular basis. To narrow it down even further, I'm german and atm only doing LFGs in german and only using the D2 app to find fireteams. 95% of the times I find a group within minutes.
I did this to finish my red borders. Now that I'm done I hop into random groups trying to help. I'm no @colonelrakesh or @zervoxe but I'm trying.
Also, I'm one of the "youngsters" of my clan and have carried most of them through most of the raids.
There are good people out there! Keep searching and you will find them!
I put some "Old-agers 30+ (insert Raid)" posts up on the app and those fill up pretty quickly and tend to be great experiences!

@@OddOxi All high end activities reward pinnacles. But without going for raid pinnacles and doing paid content, your options for pinnacles to hit power cap will be limited.
This is the big reason why Destiny 2 loses a lot of new players because new players have very little options to power cap themselves to so they can actually do the harder content that reward materials that help with progression. And those F2P players will eventually leave as they feel hard capped which means no purchasing of D2 content.
For example legend nightfalls start at 1810, soft cap is at 1750 and you need those prisms for any form of useful modding. Power grind has to be tapered off.

“I have a problem with understanding mechanics when too much is going on at once” This is exactly why when I teach raids to people, I teach it in byte form so it’s easy to digest.
Kings Fall for example, on the second encounter ‘totems’ instead of telling them the ins and outs, step by step, first I’ll tell them that “we’ll split into 2 two teams, and we’ll be playing “hot potato” in those groups. That’s literally it.”
This way they have a pretty solid foundation to go off of when understanding what’s about to happen, because if they have something to go to for reference, it clicks in their brain like little puzzle pieces.
Edit: I was able to teach an entire raid group how to do kings fall, and get the catalyst for the weapon from that raid, which required you to do all these mini games between each encounter. One guy said “I have no clue I’m sorry” and I said “it’s totally fine, I did say in the post that I can teach if needed so you don’t have to worry.”

That's kind of the Internet in general these days. People who say "lOl jUsT mAeK fRiENDz" have obviously never been bullied over body traits (which includes the sound of your voice), disability/mental illness, gender, sexual orientation, etc. It happens both online and off more than you'd think. Hell, a lot of times people get bullied just because of saying/doing the wrong thing at the wrong time - that alone is, like, 60 percent of the memes on the Internet. Everybody does it, but up until a couple decades ago, you couldn't have your life ruined by the Internet because of it like today. Also, I think Destiny just has a very addictive core gameplay loop (mainly because of things like gunplay, graphics, the class system, etc) and that's why it draws a lot of players of all types, social and anti-social. But the problem of people preferring to play alone is not just a Destiny problem or even just an MMO problem, it's a society problem. There are lots of broken, scared people playing video games online, and contrary to popular belief, they have a damn good reason to be weary of people.

  • @mdp720

My problem with most MMO endgame content is that the rest of the gameplay rarely prepares you for modern raid mechanics. It's the developers' faults for making RPG bosses too easy to power creep and turn into trivial encounters, so they have to come up with something else. But after day-one raiders spend 18 hours straight figuring out what to do, the puzzle mechanics become trivial too, and then raids feel completely isolated from what the bulk of the gameplay actually is.
Regular missions are "avoid this attack while shooting these targets until they die" while raids are "one guy puts on a specific hat while three others block lasers with weird pineapples they found, and two more just kill adds forever". It's all brute-forcing trial & error until you figure out how not to die, so you can't just hop in as a casual player. Even with RUclips tutorials, I've found very few people who effectively convey and demonstrate raid & dungeon mechanics without bombarding you with easy-to-miss information.

      Wouldn't bother anymore.
Very tiresome, tried as much as I could making friends and joined multiple clans.
This game biggest weakness is the forced multiplayer experience, with exclusive loot "locked" behind it.
Having to "coordinate" anything and being dependent on other 5 players to achieve anything in a Raid.
Every activity should scale properly and being doable solo.
Like any decent, really decent well made - well thought out game is/would be.
Bungo is ultimately lazy and lame, so...why bother.
Ultimately you'll get the feeling that you're losing on a lot, lot of content and paying it just the same.

Just to chime in with my experience with LFG as a solo player. I've done hundreds across Xbox Live, Bungie app, and the Destiny 2 Discord. There have only been a handful of times where the experience wasnt good. Less than 1%. Be up front about your issues/weaknesses and most people will help you out. Cant help you if we dont know you need help.
And dont be afraid to create your own group instead of joining one. You can control the vibe with the boot option if someone is starting to get toxic. I always put "chill" in my posts to get players that dont really care about how others play as long the acivity gets completed ina reasonable time frame. Theyll often stick around for one or 2 re tries.

i think if bungie added a mission for each raid that had legend modifiers and made you do several simplified versions of raid encounters for a pinnacle raid item and maybe a different weekly challenge for a piece of armor for solo players. I think that would be fair for solo players as they still have to do everything by themselves and deal with legend modifiers like burns and lowered light level

I personally love avoiding the heavy toxicity in gamers over the last 10 years but I really hate being asked if I have anarchy, vex mythoclast, etc and if I don’t, I get kicked. Probably judged right before. “Get gud” has become a phrase that boils my blood. Bungie really needs to take care of this community. We have invested cash and time. We deserve it. Enough of trials and competitive for a bit, take care of gambit if not our community. The competitive community is the most rewarded yet the most toxic and ungrateful. If you’re a new player to Destiny 2 and are only interested in the campaign here are a few things to understand.
You start the game off fairly powerful. The reasoning for this is for you to be able to jump in with your friends and play together online, but if you’re only interested in the campaign its to your benefit because you don’t have to grind so hard to enjoy the story.
The Timeline is just a recap of the entire story up to The Final Shape. Some recaps are cinematic, some you have to read, and some are playable quests. As a new player you’ll want to play these quests to get the reward at the end.
Bungie now offers Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns for free. Only the campaigns. To get the extra goodies that come with these respected dlc’s you’ll have to purchase their packs. again if you just want to play the campaigns don’t worry about it for now.
New Light not to be mistaken for Beyond Light, NEW LIGHT is an introduction to game and its mechanics. I recommend playing through it for as long as you can tolerate it and than start Shadowkeep. The first 3 dlc’s released are no longer available to download or purchase Bungie vaulted them so Shadow Keep is where the playable story campaign begins.
To start Shadowkeep you have to go to the Moon and click on the blue banner that will get you started.
Lastly, I just want to stress not to over think it. It a MMO and if you never played a game like this than it can be overwhelming. MMO don’t play like a traditional video game I.e God of War. You’re going to see other players on the map hopping around doing their own quests or even the same one you’re doing. Just ignore it and have fun. By the time you’ve finished the two dlc campaigns I guarantee you’ll have a better understanding of the game and its mechanics.

I used to belong to a Clan for a long time, but always felt intimidated because everyone in the Clan knew each other for a long time, and I never felt like I fit in. Also, what I know is that really good players get an attitude, an arrogance if you will that makes them toxic. I know that the success of any Raid/Dungeons etc., requires everyone knowing the mechanics and working as a team. I hate missing out on all the armor and weapons. Hopefully with this Discord I'll get confident enough to look for a group. Although, I like being a solo player, one of my realizations, that is true for life as for gaming. We have to NETWORK with other people. Otherwise we miss out on important information. In this case game armor and weapons.

Wish they'd do a $10 subscription that includes all available content, a firing range to test exotic weapons that you've seen others use, a members only public space, and a public space for your clan. Something available to everyone could be a customizable shader for clans, also available in regular, cammo, or neon.

I have been a Destiny player since Alpha came out, I used too have an entire clan that would do Raids, missions/events, or just have fun together. But after a few years, they stared to stop playing one by one until I was the only one left. I left the clan and started to do everything on my own, I sold everything that I could and ground on my own for so long that I completely forgotten how it feels to be in a fireteam and I miss that sometimes. I tried to join randoms, but after one bad encounter after another I just gave up on even trying to do Raids or anything that requires a team to do. It's so hard to try to make friends now, or hell a fireteam that works now days that a lot of people just straight up gave up in even joining clans and fireteams that they don't even get a chance to enjoy raids and dungeons, it's sad.
Thank you for pointing at this problem that the game is facing right now, I'm sure that a lot of people are and appreciating this video more than you think.

yeah, i get this. i really enjoy this game but man, its significantly more exciting and entertaining with people you know and actively play with. the connection with others is destiny is so enticing. I remember back when forsaken released i was a junior in high school and found out some of my friends and their friends also actively played destiny. we ended up making a clan and doing raids usually every night. as people that would originally talk only occasionally in the same class, we got pretty close due to destiny. unfortunately right as beyond light was releasing, id say, about a week or two before, a couple of my friends in this group of ours had a pretty bad falling out. one person acted in a pretty, shitty, inconsiderate way that another individual took a lot of offense to, culminating in them refusing to play with each other. it was petty, but it also caused such a divide in our friend group that people slowly started to not play with any one of us altogether in avoidance of any toxicity. i still play this game daily, truly one of my favorite games of all time. I will say though, it sucks having to look for lfgs to do a raid now, only ever talking once a twice for comms with people youll never talk to again is always kind of weird, and awkward. i miss my clan, lmao. good video!

The thing that destroyed Destiny was making clans such a big thing. It fractured my groups so many went on to clan up with other people they played with more, then we all played mostly with our clans for the rewards. After a year and a half, they all stopped playing and I hadn’t played with all these other guy forever so there was no connection, many of them got off cause their clans stopped playing. It just ruined all the conn3criona I had outside the 20 people I claned up with. Then I switch3d clans, then those guys stopped playing, rinse and repeat over the years and now I hardly know anyone. It’s to the point I don’t desire going thru it again to get to know people.
Smartest thing they could do is make everything match made. Maybe less rewards and make it easier, not sure what the solution should be. Doing this might piss off the hardcore but oh well.

Over a month ago, I played Destiny ONLY solo for YEARS (on and off again for 7+ years since D1 post Taken King / Iron expansions on the disc.) However, I finally got back into the game with Season of the Deep and I started completely from scratch.
Now, for the first time since forever ago, I completed not one but TWO raids two days in a row. I would recommend Kinder Guardians as they have a very handy sherpa system for finding helpful people. (There are two Destiny LFG groups, but only one has a Sherpa system in it. The other is kind of a crapshoot if you have no idea what to do.)

I join people's groups until I learn the raid fundamentals and make my own group just filled with any kind of player as long as they aren't toxic. Haven't tried a raid since D1. My lfg runs of Vault and Crota's end ended up w/ nothing but insults and 0 clears. I still consider myself VERY capable at the game though, def not casual, even with 0 raids. Hoping they don't do anything to RoN next season because I am ABSOLUTELY going to solo the entire raid (except maybe planets, that boss makes me nervous 😁) I think it'll be a cool flex to have my first raid be a solo one lol.

Unpopular take here. Just use fireteam finder and join Nightfalls and Dungeons. Most Nightfalls are pretty straight forward since they are just harder strikes, while Dungeons don't have as much puzzles or roles to take. For example the Shattered Throne is piss easy in complexity EVEN with Wish Ender challenges tagged on compared to say DSC or The Disciple.
I started out this way with Legend NFs and done Master/GMs eventually. Most of the time, you don't even need talk.
I don't even have a mic for such activities.
Only raids will require mics and certain raid groups really demand you interact in Raid rooms. So it can be difficult if you are mute or don't wish to talk at all, but that means it requires you to listen.
But otherwise, most dungeons, NFs or even exotic quests, you can do it without uttering a sound.

I tend to fo everything solo for a couple reasons.
    1) God awful at teamwork. When SHTF, I go into panic-mode and any plan my team had flies out of my brain.
Have yet to break that habit, but I'm working on it.
Even spent a while as a Well-lock using Lumina.
    2) God awful connection.
I live in the boonies, so even with high-speed internet, a wi-fi extender, a new modem, and even a new physical connection to my house, I simply disconnect too often to curse a fireteam in endgame content with my inevitable, sudden, disconnects.

12 min of info I've already tried.
I've stopped playing as much because I'm locked out of dungeons/raids. Most are KWTD within hours of an end game activity. Considering not getting Final Shape, not sure if it's worth wasting more hours watching videos not to get in a group, getting kicked for not actually having done the activity or hoping for sherpa availability.

There was a video i saw, rhe dude stated this game isnt made for making friends its made for people with friends to start playing and it couldnt be anymore true ofc its not impossible but its just so rare for a random u added to need to do the exact same thing u need to do unless its just pvp for fun or something new like a raid or dungeon few days after release. So the only way to go about it IS lfg and there is nothing wrong with that but finding a group just takes long, and being dependent on other ppl for completing something is just tiring. I don't wanna waste an hour and a half on a raid so i just dont do them. I farm encounters which is a great way to counteract this problem cuz after one or two runs there wont be many mistakes made if u stick with the same ppl for the run, but its lowkey just sad that this game is like this. So much potential

Hi been a destiny solo player since d1 wow that was arwsome in d1 playing some raid half threw I got kicket😢😢.so I kept on playing the game solo .then d2 came I was so overwhelmed how good the game was bort the expansions upto the final shape then I seen the price.still a solo player still getting kicket out of raids and Dougens.i class my self a good player been playing gaming when I was 10 years old. But now I've work out it's not for solo player at all I did the calculations and out 100 it's 99.9% for pvp and team players only that what bungie are punching for. Now I left the game for 3 months I didn't miss it at all I've got more time myself to end on that note no more grinding for a weapon what is going to be nurf in the future love your channel keep up the good work dude 👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯

I know there are definitely toxic players and LFG groups but they are usually very easy to spot. I've been a solo player for a lot of my Destiny play time and i honestly haven't had any toxic lfg encounters. I just look for groups that mention about teaching or being chill. I've completed every raid, dungeon and like 80% of GM nightfalls this way and had nothing but fun and the experience has honestly helped a huge amount in fighting my social anxiety and building my confidence.

Mid 30's boomer here. I basically only play solo or duo with the wife and LF cut us off from even more content unfortunately. I wish I had a poll of what % of the player base thought some of the difficulty increase was necessary tbh. I think master and gm content should have gotten harder, but the increase from hero to legend nf is steep and that is about the cutoff for what I will willingly beat my head against. Master and up solo/duo feels bad imo and it doesn't help that neither of us play a well lock. The harder the game gets the less viable ways to play you have and I don't like that. I should add that I don't like a lot about gaming culture, but mostly the know it all attitudes and try hards that ruin the experience for us older people who haven't played the game from ages 10 to 20 or whatever lol. I have a lot of anxiety in general from some gnarly childhood stuff and social situations make it worse if I feel like I'm in a hostile environment, or like I'm not keeping up in skill level at least somewhat. Not sure what the point of this post was other than to say I'm a solo player who can see some issues with the way the game is atm and I feel for other solo players.

Well. Here at the end…I’ve never done a raid, or dungeon, or any other group end game activity. Tried matchmaking raid that one time they experimented with it…but players I got matched with were frustrated that I had no idea what to do…and the nasty DM’s as a result were enough for me to never try that hot mess again. D2 is the only game I consistently played for an entire decade…and yet consistently felt I never got my moneys worth no matter how many hours I put into it. The sad part…I wasn’t solo by choice. The friends I had started D2 with gave up after the first year. And from that day on…I learned the hard way that the worst part of the D2 experience was the players. Eventually I just wouldn’t even talk to any of them at all. There may have been someone in there who actually wanted to help or whatever…but I kinda doubt it, tbh. So…I dunno…that was my Guardian experience. Can’t even call it a good one…just something I did to pass the time. The weird part…it should have been something that deeply inspired me. Could have been, should have been…but aside from the music…not sure I’ll really take any memories of that decade with me…and that feels like failure from a 10 year experience. Just my two pennies.

From someone who do GM Nightfalls with randoms and friends, the experience is not even close. ESPECIALLY when we’re going to get more and more Battlegrounds as NFs (and since the LFG system from Bungie isn’t that great past Disgraced or Devil’s Lair GM, normal Dungeon Runs, Master 6 man activities during Season of The Lost/Witch Queen’s release).

Ik what it’s like to want to do something and running into jerks. I just carry em and teach them the game, help with whatever they have going on, or even just to help grind to raise their light level faster because I can take care of most of the harder content with my builds and get em some goodies and legendary materials. They’re always so thankful and excited. They go from frustrated to loving life at that time. Plus I hope it encourages new players to be that kind of person down the road and we have more nice and chill people in the community willing to help the blueberries lol

I'm a 52yr old female player, been playing since D1 yr1 and it's all I really play, I don't watch TV but do have a family, house and full time job to tend to. Would love to do raids but do not have the 'online gaming friends' to be able to. I joined a 'Menagerie' as a solo and the other 5 were all in the same clan, they admired my courage to join a random 6 player activity and invited me to the clan, I accepted and did lots of missions including the original Outbreak Perfected with them as I just couldn't quite manage it solo. They kicked me from the clan after they grew into a more PvP base. I'm not a great player, I'm not a pro but do feel I can contribute, before all these new subclasses and fragments etc the game was harder yet me and my son completed several dungeons after a few hours of intense gaming and was incredibly rewarding as a result, but the thought of joining LFG's where people can just boot you out if you die or don't speed run through it is just not the point of Destiny or the activities in my opinion. I guess we just need to find the right group, simple as that?

Eventually ended up playing with one other and things did grow more fun. Then it all vanished in an instant (entirely different topic which caused that to happen)...Done LFG a few times throughout all the time D2 has been around but finding a friendly group is immensely challenging.
