I bought myself a sport 2 a few years back and was at the outdoor range with a couple guys that had top end colt and Daniel defense rifles that were four or five times the cost. Or more... if it wasn't for gravity, they wouldn't hit the ground. I was outscoring them at 200 yards to their 50 or 75 yards. A lot of it comes down to operator skill, but Smith and Wesson made a damn fine gun. I put a scope on it, I have 3" groupings at 300 yards. It's a badass rifle!
I’m in the process of purchasing one. I’ve been looking at other rifles that cost a lot more. I’ve did some research and decided to buy the rifle. I’ve only heard positive things about and the price you really can’t beat.

I actually bought the M&P 15 Sport II because of this review and am pleased, took this to the range and other people with other AR's kept asking me what AR mine was. I put the HE510C GR HOLOSUN and zero it with a .556 boresighter at 25 yards and I am shooting tight groups at 50 & 100 yards. Stoked, almost bought the COLT m4 carbine. Glad I checked this out, I also watched the M&P 15 Sport II melt down by Iraqveteran888 and confirmed every doubt I ever had. Appreciate you and thanks.
Hey thanks a bunch! Glad you enjoy ur new rifle, it should serve you well. I'm about to do a follow-up review on mine because it's been so solid with not one problem or malfunction ever 👍
The best m and p sport 2 review on RUclips. Thanks for taking your time to share your opinion. I bought on last week now need to wait for the liscence.
Great Review. It showed me exactly what I needed to know as a beginner. Other reviews just shoot the rifle and don't actually show close ups on the actual gun to explain each part and how it functions.
Hey thanks man. That's exactly why I made this video, for people just getting into it because this is what I wanted to see when I was looking for one 👍
Very nice review. I used its big brother in Vietnam in 1969 and was interested in seeing what changes, if any, had been made. This looks like the closest to the original, which is what I'm looking for. Appreciate you pointing out all the features, something a lot of reviewers omit.
Hey thanks Harry! Yes this does kind of have the classic look to it and that was attractive to me as well. It's an extremely reliable and well built rifle, I would definitely recommend it 👍

None of my other semi-auto rifles have dust covers and they all work just fine for me. Both rifles, sandbagged will get 1.5 to 2 MOA @ 100yds with cheap 55g ball practice rounds. Great review! One of the best I have seen on any AR platform rifle but you left out one of the best and most important features on this rifle. Armornite. Most reviewers leave it out because they are either not sure, or don't know what it is. So here goes. . . . . . Armornite is S&W's terminology for the Nitride process. Same as Glock's Melonite process. Which is a form of Ferritic nitrocarburizing. Ferritic nitrocarburizing (Nitride for short) is a Case Hardening technique that uses heat, nitrogen and carbon to toughen up the exterior of a steel part, improving its durability, lubricity, appearance and corrosion resistance. Since this treatment includes the entire barrel including the bore. There is no need for chrome lining. I hope this helps a bit. It's always good to share information.

Bravo, what a perfect demo. You have answered all of my questions and concerns and l did go and buy TWO of your s&w sport model 2"s from sportsman warehouse and l love 'em..
I really do like my M&P 15 Spot 2. I got mine back in 2019. After getting out of the army, back in 1990-1991. ( Why did it take me so long? I don't know. ) The only thing it did with it after about 6 month. Was the furniture / externals. Nothing internal, has been changed. Never really shot anything beyond around 100 yards, just yet. Iron Sights, were pretty much in zero. Then got a Scope. ( Zeroed in, with in a silver dollar size at 100 yards. ) And then change over to a red dot. Still need to re zero the red dot. Nothing has failed me yet. Even after around 5000+ rounds. Only one double feed, in the early stages. ( Maybe, a bad round? ) Still love this rifle. Never, giving it up.
Great review! Like the way you go thru everything in a quick and precise way. Liked and subbed. Already bought mine, should be picking it up in about a week. Already own the Springfield Saint, love it, and wanted a second AR, looks like I picked a good one.
Thanks Kevin! Yeah this is such a great little rifle, still not one hiccup with mine and it gets shot several times weekly. You're going to love it, thanks for the comment!
Man, this is a pretty glowing review for this rifle, gotta say! Highly considering the Smith for my first AR. I appreciate your positive attitude brother.
Thank you my friend, by far the best article I’ve seen so far about the AR 15. Thank you for putting everything in perspective. I believe I’m sold. Have a great day.
Good job on getting your first rifle. We need way more rifle owners and I believe we’ll see many more first time owners with the nonsense bill just passed by the house.
you made my day....just bought one 3 weeks agoWent with SW because all my revolvers,MP 2 are excellent built. Really impressed they went with magpul accesories also.....QUALITY
Great video! I have been racking my brain on what to get and I am now convinced this rifle is it. Thank you for taking the time you did and for this video.
Just purchased an MP Sport 2, glad it got great reviews, i had a gen 1 sport that was great but sold it, regretted that. However years later i returned. Cant go wrong with SW!
Poppa, thanks for the detailed breakdown. I've been rocking my AKs, but have wanted to get more into the AR platforms, and I can say your walkthrough informs me well enough to see where to start.
Man, I loved this video! I'm new to the AR platform and looking to get my first one. I've been looking into the M&P 15 and this video was perfect. Definitely have a new subscriber here. Cheers
1st time I've seen any of your videos and I was impressed! Very nicely done review. I have one & made a couple of mods to mine. Just as a side note, your background music is way TOO loud.
Smooth video and 💯 % informative 👌 About to purchase one for sure tomorrow. Just love the way it looked and felt last weekend when I checked them out. Heck might even get two of them
I agree 1oo% with your view of this AR 15. I have had mine for several years. One thing I added that I really like is, a large downward handle about centered on the bottom of the front hand guard. Makes it feel kind a machine gun style..lol They tell you you must replace the hand guard to a hand guard that has rails to do that. But I just removed the two halves of the front hand guard (like you mentioned) and put the bolts through this hand guard, and it bolted solid right to this without any rails or changing of the hand guard. Works great sturdy and looks great! I love it. Very cheap add on, from cheaper than dirt company. Oh by the way they sell a tool just foe holding that part down while you remove the front guard. I have one and it is nice even though seldom used. Thank you for the honest video!
The part that I bolted to the bottom of the front guard, was a very small section of rail. Then the large pistol grip simply mounted to that. No need to replace original hand guard. Hope this helps someone.
Rubber pads on AR stocks are designed for stability not for recoil. Most people don’t know that it’s for gripping on your shoulder when wearing different types body armor. And I appreciate your skill with iron sights!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’ve been very happy with my Sporter 2. I’ve never had a malfunction what so ever. I did swap out the forend for a UTG Pro MTU001SS that has a full length pic rail on top and M-Lock. Replaced the charging handle with a Radian Raptor, and put an Aimpoint PRO red dot on top. Also added a small side pic rail for my Surefire light. It is a solid platform.
Hey great review I was deciding between a few AR's and made the choice to purchase the M&P Sport 2 with the Crimson trace. I also looked at the Ruger AR-556, and agree with you.
Great Breakdown, Very knowledgeable, YOU should become a Firearm Sales Rep for Smith and Wesson ( YOU have demonstrated that you have the skills needed )
I used to have a diamond back db15 AR15 but I got rid of it and regretted it and I just put one of these in lay-away, I’ve had Smith&Wesson pistols and currently carry a .40 S&W and I love it! So I’d assume their rifles are also worth the money. I’ve had a couple Glocks before and honestly I prefer S&W
@@ernestozamora267 yes, if u have the standard A2 iron front sight that is your gas block, so that would require a low profile gas block to be installed and then you would be able to install almost any handguard you would like
I like the stock look, however I did add two picatinny rails to add a flashlight and a shorty handle grip under the hand guard. I also added a reddot scope to go along with the factory sights which are perfect.
excellent vid! - I love this gun. good baseline. you can run it as is or, for VERY little extra money you can add on parts for easy upgrades. The cheapest one and (for me was the most fun) was buying new furniture. its really where S&W saves some money the forend is really bad i live in the desert. I don't dump mags, these guns barels get hot. The forend does nothing to midigate that. talking about barrel twist, 1:9 vs 1:8 I've used both never had a tumbling issue with 77gr bullits at 500 yards.
Very good review definitely something that can defend the life of your familiy or you and not that expensive to be carried out your vehicle reliable.and rugged
Great video, I never shot an AR-15, and with all the negative hype, I feel I need to update my arsenal with an AR, but which one? Smith & Wesson has always been a reliable gun manufacturer and with the great detail explanation and your honest opinion, this might be the basic AR-15 I will pick up. I’ll probably get some type of scope or red dot aiming device to help me hit my targets over 50 yards… at 69 my eyes aren’t as sharp as they were back in the day..can you recommend a reliable scope or red dot system to compliment the M&P AR-15 Sport 2, so I’ll pick it up the same time I buy additional mags and ammo…. Great video thanks!
Yes for a scope I like the vortex crossfire II. About $169 and lifetime warranty, anything happens, they replace it for free. I just got a red dot for mine. Sig Sauer Romeo 5. $150, waterproof, motion activated (turns on by itself as soon as u grab the rifle) insanely reliable. I'll be doing a review on it this next week I believe
Glad you’re getting your first AR sir! We need more and more first time owners and need to support groups who support our 2A rights and bring other family and friends into the community as well.
@@bikesandbangs Id go with the vortex cause I have a the Romeo 5 and it’s on my back pack gun but I don’t mistreat it or throw it around the red dot is not crisp at all, at night time is see almost 2 separate dots. And I’ve heard other people have these issues.
Thank you for the reply and personal support… that’s what make the Shooting community a positive place to be, we all tend to assist the novice to be even more comfortable with shooting.. great advice, sounds like the way to go….. one last question, how about those AR pistols with suppressor (I mean they look awesome, any advise there?)….
Well with the AR pistols you are sacrificing some accuracy and velocity in exchange for more maneuverability in tight spaces. If that's something you think might need they r great for that. I personally like the combo of a pistol and full size AR but there is something out there for everyone
I have one... If I'm being honest, it really does match the price point in terms of quality goes. Quality is a vey relative term here. Quality is simply put, conforming to requirements. It's a military spec rifle. That just means everything works with everything, with very loose tolerances. Ok so that said, a few relatively minor changes, this rifle transforms into a much better rifle. 1. there was some noticeable receiver slop/rattles. This was due to the loose tolerances in the takedown/pivot pins and lugs on the upper receiver. A set of JP oversized pins corrected this issue. I have no slop or rattles at all now. Very tight lockup has the feel of a much more expensive rifle now. 2. This is both a pro and a con, but this rifle is very much overgassed. The good is that you will be able to run any ammo, in any conditions. Dirty gun, wet gun, whatever. the con is, your internals will take a beating and wear out a bit sooner. Also the recoil impulse, albeit not bad as is, could be better, and by going with a heavier buffer (they put in a light carbine buffer, I added an H2, and changed the AR15 cut bolt carrier to a M16 full weight buffer and it's a much smoother shooting experience. 3. trigger.... it's a mil-spec single stage trigger. excessive creep, gritty feel before the break... and polishing the sears improved it a LITTLE, replacing it with a single stage duty drop in from RA improved it a LOT! 4. Mine came with the A2 grip, and standard loose rattly M4 stock, and the Magpul MOE handguard. I hated them all, so, Hogue overmold grip and stock, and I changed out the handguard to a UTG pro carbine drop in, and it looks so much better, and has the rail run and match the receiver and gas block rails. 5. I added some fixed iron sites, on it and this thing is easy to shoot. 6. I actually like the 1:9 twist barrel. I'm 55 grain or 62 grains primarily. If I want to shoot heavier bullets I will pull out my .308 or .300 blk I agree that this rifle is a GREAT one at its price point. I don't agree that Anderson, PSA, or others are not good... maybe not as good, but as I said, anything can be made better with some well planned upgrades.
I mean, it doesn't make much sense to put $1000 into a $700 rifle. If you're that picky about everything you should pry just build an AR with all ur favorite parts. We are just talking about the best bang for buck AR that is always going to get the job done. It might not look the best or feel the best, but it can perform just as it needs to, right out of the box, everytime. Ur acting like this is some un-usable piece of junk when you get it. It is not.
The only thing on this rifle i felt i had to replace is the foregrip. I bought mine in summer and with no heat shield inside it quickly becomes way too hot to hold even with a modest firing rate. Added on a angled foregrip magpul stock a different grip, ambi charging handle and evenually a timney trigger. Nothing really wrong with the stock one. I didnt like the clunky reset of the mil spec trigger. But if i hadnt have had the cash i could have lived with it just fine.
Thanks Joseph! It's a great rifle, no regrets here 👍
Thank you my friend, by far the best article I’ve seen so far about the AR 15. Thank you for putting everything in perspective. I believe I’m sold. Have a great day.
Thanks Tim! 👍
Love it. Purchased my this past weekend. Can’t wait to get to the range. My 1st AR!!!
Awesome! Good choice, it's a rifle that will work as hard as u want it too, you'll see 👍
Good job on getting your first rifle. We need way more rifle owners and I believe we’ll see many more first time owners with the nonsense bill just passed by the house.
I love my M&P15 Sport II. I ALSO REALLY LIKE the production quality of your range time. Thank you.
Just bought that same one! $780 out the door! Can’t wait to customize it and take it to the range 😁
Hek yeah man, Im getting a few goodies to throw on mine as well 👍
Just got mine 2 days ago and I love it. Great review
you made my day....just bought one 3 weeks agoWent with SW because all my revolvers,MP 2 are excellent built. Really impressed they went with magpul accesories also.....QUALITY
Yes, this rifle performs great and has been nothing but reliable for me. Can't go wrong with Smith & Wesson. Thanks!
sad SW are moving after 187 years in Massachusetts but us people from Maine don't call them Massholes for nothing.@@bikesandbangs
Hope you don’t choose to add a bipod because you won’t be able to
@@paleo704 if you put a quad rail system you can put a bipod.
Good vid for us newcomers to the AR world. Who is the singer for this vid?
BEST VIDEO YET I'VE SEEN ON THE M&P SPORT 2 , LUV MINE 600 ROUNDS AND COUNTING NO PROBLEMS. THANKS BRO, ILL BE WATCHING
Thank you very much Michael!
Nice review. I like the confidence in the "I'll outshoot you challenge"...👍
Thanks man!
Great review. Easy to follow and straightforward with good information. Made my decision now.
Poppa, thanks for the detailed breakdown. I've been rocking my AKs, but have wanted to get more into the AR platforms, and I can say your walkthrough informs me well enough to see where to start.
Excellent! Thank you sir
I love my SnW AR15 i did change my grip to a Hogue rubberized n finger cut out grip its so good !! Great video Brother very thorough
Thanks man! And yes, I have addressed the music in more recent videos 👍
Great review. Thanks for helping me decide on a good budget AR.
No problem, thanks Edwin!
Smooth video and 💯 % informative 👌
About to purchase one for sure tomorrow. Just love the way it looked and felt last weekend when I checked them out. Heck might even get two of them
wow best video I’ve seen in a while love the fact you dumb it down and I picked up a lot, I have 2 of these models… thank you
Excellent review. Groovy music and even better commentary. Thank you!
Hey thanks!
Excellent review and video. Great shooting too. Thank you for sharing.👍
Thanks man!
@@bikesandbangs My pleasure.
As an ogre, I personally enjoyed your flair and validation of my purchase. Well done.
Thanks Kevin!
Good info Ryan! I appreciate your knowledgeable insight!
@@bikesandbangs absolutely🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Just got mine on sale for $614 total I’m geeked. $900 rifle for far below retail is a steal in my eyes & for my first AR
Dang that's a great deal, tough to go wrong at that price
I’ve been very happy with my Sporter 2. I’ve never had a malfunction what so ever. I did swap out the forend for a UTG Pro MTU001SS that has a full length pic rail on top and M-Lock. Replaced the charging handle with a Radian Raptor, and put an Aimpoint PRO red dot on top. Also added a small side pic rail for my Surefire light. It is a solid platform.
Good to hear man. I'm thinking one of these days I'll throw on some fancy furniture and deck mine out. It's been so reliable, it deserves it lol
Hey great review I was deciding between a few AR's and made the choice to purchase the M&P Sport 2 with the Crimson trace. I also looked at the Ruger AR-556, and agree with you.
Very happy with mine. No issues.
This is my first riffle I haven’t got it yet going to finish paying it off this week can’t wait to pick it up and shoot it for the 1st time
Yeah I like open sights too. Also I have one of those too.🎉
Great Breakdown, Very knowledgeable, YOU should become a Firearm Sales Rep for Smith and Wesson ( YOU have demonstrated that you have the skills needed )
Thanks man! Maybe one day, who knows 👍
So love this rifle, it will be my first gun!
one of the best videos i have ever seen on here.Thank you ....
Hey thank you very much Sir!
I've had mine for almost 2 years and never had a malfunction
Awesome man! I've always heard great things about this rifle. Glad you can confirm this!
Very nice! I’ve had mine for about 11 months and no issues at all🤙
Can yall remove the sites? And put a straight hand guard ?
@@ernestozamora267 yes, if u have the standard A2 iron front sight that is your gas block, so that would require a low profile gas block to be installed and then you would be able to install almost any handguard you would like
I like the stock look, however I did add two picatinny rails to add a flashlight and a shorty handle grip under the hand guard. I also added a reddot scope to go along with the factory sights which are perfect.
S&W M&P 15 is like the Toyota Camry of Rifles... No "Gucci".. but deluxe enough and supremely reliable... It Just Runs!
I didnt know I needed this video.... but I did.
Pickin mine up on Tue! DUDE! I LOVE THAT SONG! I Shazamed it Danger Cat "Lone Wild" That was a fun informative video and I jammed toooooo!
Awesome Torchy! Glad u liked it 👍
Best review I’ve seen on anything in general
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Really good review. You covered every important aspect of the rifle. Very useful. Saved and subscribed. Thanks.
Thanks Brian! I appreciate the support!
Wow great review, Smith and Wesson should buy you royalties
THAT’S what I’ve been missing: jamming music while I shoot!
Got a ruger 5.56 mpr over this and I don’t regret it I have mine kitted out now and it’s never jammed on me
The ruger's are good too 👍
This guy is fabulous.
Thank for this video, it was great info. I’m definitely get one of these. 😎👍🏽
Good! U should, excellent little rifle
I tossed a BCM trigger in mine just for shits and grins because I like to tinker a little bit. Definitely glad I did.
I've heard good things about them, never tried one myself though
@@bikesandbangs they're very nice and smooth. I would say a great combat style trigger but probably not the best precision long range trigger.
excellent vid!
Good job! You're review was outstanding but my eyes got to old for the iron sights and I had to upgrade. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Pops!
Great explanation. Thanks
Buying this NOW after this Review, Thanks 👍👍👍
Awesome! It will serve u well
Excellent, informative review 👍🏼
Thanks man!
This is a very informative video for a new owner thanks!!
I personally like the combo of a pistol and full size AR but there is something out there for everyone
hey great overview, man. outstanding content here.
Thanks Jon!
If I want to shoot heavier bullets I will pull out my .308 or .300 blk
I agree that this rifle is a GREAT one at its price point.
It is not.
Great video, man!
Absolutely the first thing I replaced, with another with heatshields.
Well done . Great video
Thank you Bryan!
Good choice. Thanks for posting.
Nice review, much appreciated.
The best review by far ….. respect ✊💯
Hey thanks man!
Just Ordered Mine Today! Thanks for the video! Christmas present to me,from Santa.lol
