"Wow, Monk subclass.that is worth a penny!"
Joke aside, despite of strange connection between Monk and Plague Doctor which made little to no sense to me, this subclass gave me some hope for Monk subclasses... until Descending Dork Monk shattered it

Oh man if it got your stamp of approval it must be good!!!!!.
The monk is one of those classes that just seem so un organized. Like it should be pretty straight forward, but it’s abilities and subclasses are not finished.

With Leonardo and Michaelangelo out of the way we now arrive at Donatello and let's ripe the bandaid on this one this character's name is Donald a Tortle much like his siblings and is a way of mercy Monk with 2 levels of artificer Softshell the Brain of the team and the tech genius of the 4 siblings Donald isn't much of a fighter and prefers to close wounds rather than make them but is willing to if needed he often likes to be by himself making little gadgets to help in the fight of their master's old friend turned enemy Donald often is the one helping his brother Luke come up with a plan and is a master of using what he has to his advantage Donald Softshell is Lawful good

It’s cool how you turned Donatello into a healer/support. Using his intellect and cunning to heal. It shows that intellect isn’t just studying it’s making smart choices for the group, and making the better choices.

Reminiscent of the old days when some spells were reversible: cure/cause wounds as an example.

Questions : (Please note all questions are asked prior to viewing the video thank you for your patience.)
    1. Would that be CG or NG ??
    2. Could it be LE ?
    3. What would you choose as a race for a way of mercy monk ?
    4. Do you buy mini’s and where , is there a place online or in person you recommend?
    5. How do you help people be ok with loosing a character?
    6. What background do you recommend for this monk variant

1, 2Chaotic good neutral good or even lawful evil are all up to you. There is nothing in regard to this subclass that forces you to have any particular alignment. Because this subclass has healing and harm I would advise for a neutral type of alignment, because you can equally do harm and healing at any moment.
      3. I personally like variant human for the poisoner feat. You could go with any of the tactical, or survivalist species, lizardfolk, goblinoids, yuan ti, githzerai, Tiefling, Grung, Drow, and changeling. Though any species can work, my opinion is that you tie it to either harm or heal. If your more of a natural good species, than healing would be your draw to the subclass and harm being more of your necessity to survive.
      4. I usually use heroforge. I don’t purchase a lot of miniatures, I usually get one of my characters per campaign that I play in. I tend to play a lot digitally. In the game I DM for its in person, but I use website (that will remain nameless till I can get paid to say who) so we use apps and I connect a laptop to a tv.
      5. With character loss a lot of factors affect the aftermath, that need to be addressed.
1 the effort you put into the character. The harder you worked on your character has an opposite effect on the game once they die. If you spent days and wrote page after page of back story, and tied it into the setting, it hurts your attachment to the game. All this work is now gone and it tends to make me angry and want to just not come back. They’re done I don’t even wanna make a new character mindset steps in. It takes a moment for you to step back and appreciate the story. This character developed, grew, made connections to other characters, that matters for the story. The story changes now, but it dosent devalue what happened. If you can turn that moment into a moment not just about you, you can see that it affects the party. Thats an opportunity to invest in the roleplaying aspect, and be part of the reason why the party has to succeed, for justice or revenge. It takes a while for me to hit this point though to be honest.
2 how did you character die? It is easier to accept, in my opinion, a loss to a monster or an important boss. Dieing in combat is heroic. Dieing to a trap or just random bad luck just sucks and is frustrating. You’re climbing a mountain and you rolled 2 natural 1s and you’re dead. It sucks and that’s pretty lame. This mostly has to do with encounter building. And it’s not fun for anyone. A lot of the times this mistake won’t be repeated by the dm. This oddly enough is easier in my experience to deal with. It’s frustrating but after the session is over you just gotta take a deep breath and let it go.
3 getting back into the game is tough. Starting as the odd person out is awkward when the campaign has been going on for a while. The best thing I find is sometimes you wait for the right time to come back as opposed to right away. Even if it means not coming back for a session or two. It helps to be ready to comeback as opposed to just coming back. I find that it hurts the value of what happened, from a story perspective. Having that bad moment after a death, validates the character in a way. Rush threw it and the party and yourself missed that moment. So don’t rush back come back when it makes sense to you. If it’s next session or a few sessions after.
6 backgrounds can be subjective. They do tend to all be applicable. So it really comes down to your idea for your character. Personally I tend to like a few. Faceless, hermit, sage, criminal, urchin, urban bounty hunter, soldier, spy, and or any of the ravnica guilds.
I always try to look at a skill or ability I really love at the moment. Then I try to build the character around someone who would use such a thing. Then I try to fit the background around those thoughts.
I hope this helps. Did you lose a character?
