    If anyone is trying to get the Blood Fury Tattoo and your DM is very hesitant try what I did with my character. My Way of Mercy Monk designed a tattoo that started with only one charge of the Blood Fury Tattoo before needing to recharge. However as he helps people and cures them of their ailments and wounds the tattoo acts as a sort of empathy absorption. As the campaign goes on I get more charges at certain milestones as long as I help people. My pitch to my DM was that I wanted my character to be like The Crow, where he can feel what people have been through, and the Blood Fury Tattoo is like the end of the movie *Spoiler Alert* where he transfers 30 hours of pain all at once to the big bad.

    I know I'm probably way late to the party but I've been playing a Scarecrow (dandwiki homebrew) way of life monk. The scarecrow was brought to life by an unknown surge of magic (Dm is having lots of fun with this) and developped his skills by studying dead or near-death creatures around a battlefield. A bit macabre, but it has been my favourite character to play as thus far ^^

    I love the flavor route you took for the mercy monk! Do you have any tips for RPing a character like this? For me, I've found very "serious" characters challenging to have fun with on the table. Characters that have opportunity for comedic value seem to be a much bigger hit in terms of being fun and memorable.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  2 года назад +2

      Thanks so much!! When I role played them, I ran them as a bit serious but also fairly quirky. So it wasn't so much what Umresh said that made him memorable, but what he did. He would often roll knuckle bones and use augury to predict events of the day and he had an overly accepting view of death and the afterlife that morbidly played to the effect of "I killed them because it was convenient and it's not like they aren't still around. I'm sure their spirit would thank me for relieving them of their earthly shackles."

    One of my most anticipated characters is my Way of Mercy Monk who is essentially part of a monastic order of Plague Doctors who who devoted their lives to understanding the body and function of living beings but also in turn studying death as an academic field. As such, these Monks are sent out on crusades during times of great strife by plague or devastating war to go forth and heal the sick and starving through medicine or their own life energy but, when encountering opposition against those who seek to end life prematurely and without cause (be them bandits or undead), employ their combative skills to defeat opponents with poison darts, necrotic attacks, and their knowledge of the body via pressure points to kill or disable. The character is best made for a Grim-dark setting but I'd love to play him as a front line combatant, scout, and the party paramedic.

    EXCELLENT video. I love the thought and flavor you've poured into it and your character. I love this class. It's my first time playing and I knew I wanted to play a monk and am not regretting choosing this subclass whatsoever. I can deal damage and heal and am going to be quite a force on the battlefield. I play as chaotic good, but my character's traumatic history feeds into his wild nature.
    I am playing this as a Kenku, raised by an abusive Warlock who was trying to reverse engineer their curse through cruel experimentation. After his escape, the Kenku finds his way into the care of a retired Way of Mercy monk, who is head of a family in rural village, using his skills to be the local physician/veterinarian...even if it's anesthetic or euthanasia.
    After years of training under the monk, the Kenku's final test of initiation is to euthanize his teacher but this is botched through a dangerous and explosive error in concocting the drugs. The error leads to a noxious gas that leaves his master dying a horrific death, with his wife and children gasping and burning alive, as the Kenku flees the angry villagers, who had always been leery of this "wretched abomination". He now travels with adventurers seeking both escape and penitence.
    Since Kenku's are named often by a characteristic sound, as they are expert mimics, he is aptly named after his master's dying death rattle, the last thing he heard as he ran out the room. The dying gasp and breath, a choking hiss has been how my character introduces himself, much to the confusion or disgust of those who ask his name, though shortened by his friends, who call him "Kasso" (a reference to a real flightless bird, the cassowary, who are extremely hostile to humans...and also the last name of an infamous drug fueled murderer).

If I wanted to flavor it with Warlock class as you suggested, I need advice on what Warlock Patron would fit in to activate my great elder spirit?
    Or, is it best to take a Feat. Like Ritual Caster?

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  Год назад

      Thanks!! If you're talking about how mechanically viable it'd be, you might want to consider taking a feat instead. In hindsight, warlock/monk does mean you'd need quite a few hight ability scores. Either way, the flavor is really fun and maybe you could convince your DM to allow you to use charisma for your monk attacks or wisdom for your warlock spells instead!

    So, let me present a scenario that's occurred to me regarding Way of Mercy. Namely, it's potential high-level impact on the recently undead.
    Let's say the DM is running a classic high-level story, with the BBEG being a powerful mage who seeks immortality by becoming a Lich. Standard dramatic story pacing would have the party catching up with the BBEG just after the ritual is complete, leading to the final boss fight. Based on my reading of the lore, part of becoming a Lich (or any undead, really) is that the person needs to die. The way Ultimate Mercy is written, this means that with 5 Ki Points a Lv17 Monk should literally be able to knock the undeath out of a Lich as long as the Monk can get close enough, then use their Bonus Action to beat the crap out of the weakened caster.
    Am I reading this wrong, or is it possible to shut down a high-level undead encounter this way?

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  2 года назад +3

      THIS is one of the coolest comments I've seen on a build video. I think it being viable would largely depend on your DM (as I don't think this was RAI for Way of Mercy). But, I would certainly consider allowing it! Really cool idea!

      Honestly the absolutely wacky thing in my opinion is that based on what I've learned of Native Shamanism (this is more oriented at tribes like Blackfoot so not necessarily Canada region or south america region) a Druid class is like... honestly the best one for it, one could even consider Wild-shape to be its own conceptual tie-in to Skinwalkers and the like, then you have the Nature Spirit thing which is also common for Druids
      honestly 5e Druids are more like Shamans than they are Celtic Druids lol
